Last night on Jay Leno, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger claimed, “To link me to George Bush is like linking me to an Oscar. It’s ridiculous.”
But on August 31, 2004, in a prime-time speech, Arnold said, “Our president, George W. Bush, has worked hard to protect and preserve the American dream for all of us. And that’s why I say, send him back to Washington for four more years.” As Vice President Cheney stood and applauded, he led the crowd in a raucous cheer. Watch it:
Transcript:
Clip 1:
To link me to George Bush is like linking me to an Oscar. It’s ridiculous.
Clip 2:
Well, ladies and gentlemen, America is back — back from the attack on our homeland, back from the attack on our economy, and back from the attack on our way of life. We’re back because of the perseverance, character and leadership of the 43rd president of the United States, George W. Bush.
(APPLAUSE)
My fellow Americans, I want you to know that I believe with all my heart that America remains the great idea that inspires the world. It’s a privilege to be born here. It’s an honor to become a citizen here. It’s a gift to raise your family here, to vote here, and to live here.
SCHWARZENEGGER: Our president, George W. Bush, has worked hard to protect and preserve the American dream for all of us. And that’s why I say, send him back to Washington for four more years.
SCHWARZENEGGER WITH AUDIENCE: Four more years. Four more years. Four more years. Four more years. Four more years. Four more years.
SCHWARZENEGGER: Thank you, America. Thank you, and God bless you all.
Thank you.

There’s alot of that dual messaging going around. TP is a Glass House!
October 12th, 2006 at 10:35 amI forget now, which Terminator movie are we watching? The one where he is the good guy, or the bad guy………..?
October 12th, 2006 at 10:37 amApparently the Governator needs a memory chip replaced.
October 12th, 2006 at 10:39 amCute, predictable, and useless in the California election. Whoever is advising Angelides is similarly uninformed. Using the “Bush Connection” doesn’t “resonate” out here with those of us in the vast (25% +) middle, and we control the election.
October 12th, 2006 at 10:39 amMore junk, less substance…..
October 12th, 2006 at 10:41 amIn other words, Arnold is acting and talking like a politician. This is newsworthy somehow?
October 12th, 2006 at 10:42 amTotal Recall———->Complete Denial
October 12th, 2006 at 10:43 amStop with the linking already! It’s ridiculous!
October 12th, 2006 at 10:43 amFrom one of Arnold’s movies:

Arnold: “I had to let him go.” (he’d dropped the dude off a cliff)

October 12th, 2006 at 10:45 amComparing Bush to an Oscar IS ridiculous.
Most people in Hollywood would love to have an Oscar in their living room…
October 12th, 2006 at 10:45 amWow, the level of discussion on these boards has really descended into schoolyard name calling. Pity, since this was one of the few places thinking people could discuss the issues without having to endure Rush Limbaugh styled rhetoric.
I would ask the Republican operatives who are trying to disrupt this site to at least take time to try to make a witty comment, I could use the laugh.
October 12th, 2006 at 10:47 amNo big story, just one more nail in the coffin. Feel like the walls are closing in on that Moral Majority huh? Are you really ROTFL? I mean really, are you going to stop what your doing and because of something that you don’t find funny you’ll get to the ground and roll? Is there flour involved?

October 12th, 2006 at 10:52 amMark Warner not running for president. http://www.polibuzz.blogspot.com
To all of those that think this is a non-issue.
Journalists job should be to point out whether a politician (those guys that run countries with people´s money) say the truth or not. Whether they are honest or not, whether they f**ed up or not. I think TP is doing that job in this thread.
What is ridiculous is that a nobody can be a governor. But thats the american way of life.

October 12th, 2006 at 10:53 amPhil Angelides is losing in the polls. So what’s Phil’s strategy? Demand that NBC affiliates pull last night’s Leno show. Typical liberal fascist tactic: censorship.

October 12th, 2006 at 11:01 am#23 censorship? You create the strawman argument so you can knock it down. Liberal Facist is a contradictory term. Just like Republican morals. Are the polls what truly matter to you? If so, then Bush and the Republican party throughout this country is doomed. So you can have the Governorship in CA, he’s a moderate anyway. The Dem’s will take the house and the senate.
Censorship. Like when Bush was campaigning and wouldn’t hold a truly open campaign stop where all Americans could hear him. Only the koolaid drinkers were let in. Pot meet kettle

October 12th, 2006 at 11:10 amArnold is a typical republican Bush-loving scumbag with a meglomaniac twist.
October 12th, 2006 at 11:21 amMighty Aphrodite, Agreed…I remember Arnold’s amazing speech back in 2004. As soon as it was done, I turned to Kerry-supporting friends and said, “You’re boy just lost the election.” Only Dubya’s masterful and inspiring speech was better….
Don’t be too hard on ole’ Harry…He may hang up the phone on you like he did that reporter who DARED asked Harry some questions about his…questionable…deal/
October 12th, 2006 at 11:25 amOkay, my first thought on seeing Arnold’s face on top there aside (Man he looks constipated)
Want a reason not to vote Republican in the next elections people? Yep, changing the constitution because they just don’t have a candidate any better then a chimp in a suit.

October 12th, 2006 at 11:31 amMy thoughts. I think that Arnold is playing with Bush when all others are keepig their distance because it is his best for his politicak ambitions to come true. I mean, if Bush is going to do away with Habeas Corpus, the problem of Arnold being Austrian is moot, right?
Arnold is nothing but a lying neocon whore. He is a terrible governor, constantly lying to Californians, calling teachers and nurses “special interest groups,” and only signing some decent legislation lately because the election is less than a month away.
October 12th, 2006 at 11:32 am#30 Exley, please point me to the masterful and inspiring speech that GW had presented. I was pretty in tune on the whole 2004 election and don’t remember anything that was masterful from GW. Especially when he went toe to toe with Kerry. I mean the ol’ boy from Texas looked like he was caught in the hen house pulling a Foley with an underage chicken. Beady eyes, huffing and scrunching up his face all “but, but, but,” look on his face.
priceless.
October 12th, 2006 at 11:38 amJust another example of Republican hypocrisy.

October 12th, 2006 at 11:43 amHellinabucket, You mean the election where Dubya won re-election with the largest number of popular votes in American history? You’re right that Bush and Kerry went toe-to-toe….And Bush KO’d Kerry.
As for Dubya’s masterful and inspiring speech, I was referring to his 2004 acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention.
October 12th, 2006 at 11:44 amFor Schwarzenegger to fly to Ohio to campaign for Bush is absolutely, positively, unforgiveable.

October 12th, 2006 at 11:54 amNo Exley, I wasn’t talking about the election. I was talking about the 3 major ass kickings GW got at the hands of Kerry when they had there debates. I’m not denying GW is president. Why are you denying the complete thumping he took.
I mean it was so obvious that actual speaking isn’t GW’s strong point. Don’t get me wrong, when the shrub had all his talking points written out for him and he was in front of the select few at a campaign rally, the man could put 3 or 4 thoughts together. But when he had to actually think and defend his policy. Well, the emporer was shown to have no clothes.
To bad the fear machine was in full swing then. He’s a one trick pony and the American public has tired of that trick.
October 12th, 2006 at 11:56 amSlow news day, is it?
October 12th, 2006 at 11:56 amGood news……
Al Gore won a Quill literary award for An Inconvenient Truth
George Bush is the furthest from masterful and inspiring as a human being can possibly be…unless you are a mindless neocon.
October 12th, 2006 at 11:59 amdid anyone happen to catch Dubya’s elonquent mastery of pronouncing “insurgents?”
October 12th, 2006 at 12:02 pmEn-shir-jentz?
En-seer-shentz?
30, I remember Arnold’s amazing speech back in 2004. As soon as it was done, I turned to Kerry-supporting friends and said, “You’re boy just lost the election.â€
I remember when I heard Bush had voter rolls scrubbed in as many as 9 states and had Diebold Machines installed in dozens of others I turned to my friends and said, “We just had another election stolen from us again”.
October 12th, 2006 at 12:04 pmNah, HellinaBucket…Kerry only “won” the first debate. And that was not even the “blow out” the media, under orders from their masters at the DNC in a desperate attempt to save Kerry’s foundering campaign, portrayed it to be.
Bush “won” the next two debates hands down.
And, of course, Dubya is not the most polished public speaker out there. In this, he reminds me of President Eisenhower, who, history shows, was a terrible public speaker. But the mark of a great presidency is not eloquence. It is not great delivery of speeches. It is results and the inspiration the president gives to the nation. In that sense, it cannot be denied that Dubya has been a great president.
October 12th, 2006 at 12:04 pm…and everyone must pronouce nuclear as nucular…otherwise you are with the terrorists. Why do dictionaries hate our freedom?

October 12th, 2006 at 12:08 pmBUSH: “My opponent just said something amazing. He said Osama bin Laden uses the invasion of Iraq as an excuse to spread hatred for America. Osama bin Laden isn’t going to determine how we defend ourselves.” September 30, 2004

3) Presidency witnessed unprecedented prosperity

2) Coined the phrase “Bein’ President…it’s hard work!”
3) Wrecked federal budget
Oh, alright: Bush has more hair. Give you that.
October 12th, 2006 at 12:14 pmI fail to recognize the importance of this. It’s proof that another Republican is now turning his back on Bush, but which one of them isn’t these days?
October 12th, 2006 at 12:17 pm#47 Exley, your not doing the president any favors. Results haven’t really panned out for the man, or his administration. The man took his eye off of Al Qiada and pushed us into a preemptive conflict with flimsy and false accusations. The result of that is
Taliban gaining strength
OBL still out there
reopened a can of religious worms in Iraq
His own party sharpening the knives to save themselves.
He may be great in your own head and from reading your early posts there’s quite a bit of room in that swelled pumpkin.
Bush will never be collectively thought of as a great President. It’s much more likely he will be battling for the Worst President Ever.
October 12th, 2006 at 12:20 pmBUSH: He talks about middle-class tax cuts. That’s exactly where the tax cuts went. Most of the tax cuts went to low- and middle-income Americans. And now the tax code is more fair. Twenty percent of the upper-income people pay about 80 percent of the taxes in America today because of how we structured the tax cuts. October 13, 2004

So Ma, it looks like Duncan Hunter is also having “house troubles.” Since you read the UT, do you think he’ll also get the Cunnigham treatment?
October 12th, 2006 at 12:58 pm“It is results and the inspiration the president gives to the nation.”
Agreed.
Bush results: Iraq quagmire; bin Laden still on the loose; raping of our treasury; gutting freedom and constitutional rights; rampant corruption; the Katrina debacle; the flowering of America-hate worldwide; attacks on science; nukes in North Korea… shall I go on?
Bush inspiration: Ummmm. Huh? I guess he’s inspiring if all you need for inspiration is insipid sloganeering like “stay the course” and “high stakes”, or if you find death, destruction, and mayhem without clear plan, mission, or exit strategy to be inspiring. No eloquence, no class, no message with any depth. Inspiring? Whoa. Or maybe you find it inspiring that he doesn’t even have enough moral compass to admit error, ever.
In that sense, it cannot be denied that Dubya has been a great president.
Bwahahahahahahahahaha… wow, a stunning statemen.
With a low 30’s approval rating, apparently the vast majority have no problem denying Dubya is a great president, a mediocre president, or even an acceptable president. Only the diehard “core” koolaid drinkers can’t bring themselves to face the truth.
Talk about denial - how about denial of reality?
October 12th, 2006 at 1:09 pmExley has seemed to have gone quiet after being asked to actually produce that inspiring and masterful speech. But people with facts showing what the president’s results actually are have increased. hmmmmm.
Exley says masterful with no support. Exley, your a webbaugh. I bet your rustling papers at this very moment.
October 12th, 2006 at 1:16 pmExley you cannot be serious. Only a Kool-Aid swiller would think that Bushleague won ANY of those debates. Unless it was a contest over who could not answer more questions, then yes Bushleague won ‘hands down’ as you said. I can still distinctly remember the third debate when his answer to almost EVERY question was education, even when the question had nothing to do with it. But since the fear factor was still working so well, Bushleague was allowed to steal (literally?) another election.
I will also agree with you that he is not a polished speaker. A polished crook and liar, you bet. A great polish on the slide his approval ratings are going down, though it’s FAR overdue! No polish to his speaking whatsoever (you’d think he would have learned how to say ‘nuclear’ after all this time).
However, as far as his being a ‘great President’, only if he goes down in the history book as the Great Depressing President (all due respect to Hoover), or the Great Fascist, Great Train Wreck, or something of that nature. Then again, he IS for all intents and purposes now a dictator (is that your idea of what America stands for?), perhaps he will engage in that ‘revisionist history’ and enforce his name into the history books as a ‘great President’. It’s the only THAT will happen!
October 12th, 2006 at 1:16 pmOh look, DRxJ shows his ugly face again. You hid for a while. You still owe me an apology. And if you forgot why I will post the conversation on every thread on this site every day until you do. How about it you lying sack of sh!t.

October 12th, 2006 at 2:17 pmExley, thanks so much for the link. I had forgotten how many lies, distortions and falsehoods the shrub can pump out when he’s on a roll.
Approval rating for GW in the 30% that’s 70% not for him. Let’s see 51% was a mandate for GW, 70% has got to be proof positive of the complete failure. You do realize he snorted cocaine don’t you? He has never given any real answer on his whereabouts during his military career (that hurt just typing that).
The man has lied about his drug addictions and his service. He can’t be trusted. Remember actions speak louder than words. I’m reminded of the 7 minutes of inaction after being told we are under attack. That speaks voumes.
October 12th, 2006 at 2:24 pm“If this is the best you poeple have the Republicans are going to be in control for years to come.”
I don’t understand. Does every item on TP have to be at the shock and awe level? Obviously Arnold’s flip flop is not “the best” that can be done to show the moral, political, and financial bunkruptcy resulting from the right wing cabal. It’s just a small pebble. Are you comforted to ignore all the rest?
If this is the best response you can make to the catastrophic failures of the current regime, then Republicans are in deep trouble for some time to come.
October 12th, 2006 at 2:46 pmHellinabucket, Actually, only one poll has Dubya in the low 30s (Newsweek). The others have him in the high 30s and low 40s (Rasmussen’s tracking poll has him at 44% today)…But it is indisputable that the Foley homosexual scandal has hurt Bush, along with other Republicans. But, when it comes to Dubya, it really doesn’t matter what his job approval numbers are now. He has already been re-elected. Job approval numbers mean something in the first term-Far less in the second term. Regardless of his job approval numbers now, Dubya was still able to achieve a major legislative victory with Congress’ passage of the Military Commissions Act. You folks are fighting the last war by sniping at Dubya. His success has already been achieved. He has remade the judiciary, by nominating conservative jurists. He has changed our foreign policy to one in which we confront the terrorists before they strike here. You guys really need to set your sights on the presidential race of 2008.
October 12th, 2006 at 2:46 pmHis success has already been achieved. He has remade the judiciary, by nominating conservative jurists. Comment by Exley — October 12, 2006 @ 2:46 pm
Um Exley, if I recall collectly, in a head to head comparisons of Bush II to Clinton, the polls showed overwhelmingly that most would chose “Slick” over “Dubya” (remember, this poll was conducted post 9/11).
Shouldn’t that be he nominated conservative “judges”, not jurists?
He has changed our foreign policy alright, one of which breeds terrorists, not eliminates.
As for setting our sights on the presidential race, all we need is control of the House and Senate!
On a total side note….
October 12th, 2006 at 2:54 pmHow ’bout them TIGERS!
and good luck to your Mets tonight (if there’s not too much snow)
I already informed you that I was referring to President Bush’s acceptance speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention…Exliar
That would be the one where Mary Cheney’s “partner”wasn’t allowed to sit by her for fear of offending the knuckledraggers. What is it with these two-faced conservatives? They used her as a prop, and then dissed her. And the self-hating Cheney made excuses for them! Pathetic!
October 12th, 2006 at 2:59 pmThe Doctor is in!
Hey, DRxJ…I have no doubts that poll is accrate. Clinton has the nostalgia factor going for him. The Chinese (supposedly) have a curse — “May you live in interesting times.” Unfortunately for Dubya, his presidency is taking place during “interesting times” (9/11, Katrina, rogue states developing nukes, etc.), which makes the relatively tranquil Clinton years look desirable.
Nah, jurists and judges are synonymous.
I am VERY impressed with your Tigers. I have always kinda liked the Tigers (Best uniforms in baseball!) so I wish them well…Until they meet a buzzsaw known as the New York Mets in the World Series! But I appreciate your good wishes…..
Of course, you realize that once our two teams go head to head, the gloves come off!
October 12th, 2006 at 3:02 pmmmmm - high 30’s and low 40’s….that’s what, Ex, a F- grade?, or would it qualify as an Incomplete? Keep that spinning up though, and we’ll have a tasty batch of cotton candy here in no time.

October 12th, 2006 at 3:08 pmthat should be “unless I DON’Twant to sleep in the same bed with her,
October 12th, 2006 at 3:10 pmStill funny either way tho
Exley, you are right about the poll numbers for Bush. He’s President and won’t be running again. The Republican numbers are lower than his. As for Jurists, history proves that the party who put the judge in is not guaranteed a rubber stamp. Justice is justice at that level so your chest thumping for conservative judges doesn’t register with me.
The Military Commissions Act hasn’t been signed yet? Why is that? Quite possibly for the little issue about doing away with Habeus Corpus. Calm rational people on both sides of the political spectrum believe this won’t pass Supreme Judicial scrutiny so it’s not a law yet.
You really buy that crap about “fighting them over there so we don’t have to here”. He can’t even focus on the mastermind of 9/11. We can spend 100’s of billions of dollars in Iraq after it’s been proven not to be the holder of WMD’s or direct ties with AQ but we still can’t inspect more than 6% of the incoming cargo boxes into our ports. Why is that? Democrats wanted 100% inspection. The republicans said it was too costly. What’s the price of keeping us safe here? But we can still throw good money after bad into Iraq. That is this President and he has failed us.
Nov 7th is the chance to kick to the curb all who went along with him. Republican and Democrat.
This president has failed us and all who have blindly followed him has failed us.
October 12th, 2006 at 3:11 pmDRxJ….I understand about your wife…To tell you the truth, if the Mets were not involed, I would love to see a Tigers-Cardinals World Series. That is old school baseball!
October 12th, 2006 at 3:24 pmArnold has almost a 100% lead in the polls.
Angelides might as well rent a fishing boat and take a vacation. He’s done.
Hasta la vista, baby.
October 12th, 2006 at 3:26 pmMuckie - Duh-nold and Flakifornia are a match truly made in heaven - who’d want to break that up? Hell, they had Reagan for a Governor! Only Minnesota has ever been able to trump that one. Too bad Sonny Bono wasn’t still around - that’d be a hoot.

October 12th, 2006 at 6:10 pmHey Paul in LA, I didn’t say I like it, or that I like Duh-nold. Gray Davis was awesome, and genuine, and got swiftboated worse than Kerry did. I’m sorry for CA, but sorrier still that muckdog opened his yap and invited me to take a shot. i hope some day the Golden State will give up bipolar politics for good - and the other states that still practice it, too.

* That’s what this “on the surface” separation is all about. Or maybe the entire GOP is coming down with severe cases of amnesia. *
THEY’RE ALL BROWNIES!!
October 12th, 2006 at 6:24 pmPaul, are you even up on current events are you too busy digging into all the conspiracy theories? LOL.
You think Arnold’s fund raising is huge now? Wait until he slaughters Angelides next month and starts campaigning for the GOP 2008 campaign. He will be a fund raising “machine.”
October 12th, 2006 at 6:27 pmMuck - so you’re all for having Hollywood types in charge? I thought they were they enemy of everything apple-pie - hope you’re comfy and cozy with the idea of Duh-nold and Maria having all their gay Hollywood types hanging out in the WH….it’ll be like the Abramoff gang, except a lot more gay, and a lot more liberal than I’d wager you’d be happy with. Good luck making the cheerleader squad for your favorite Son of a Nazi.
October 12th, 2006 at 6:59 pmSo are all of you still stuck in the left, right paradime. Wakeup!!!!!!!!!!!
October 12th, 2006 at 7:11 pmThey are the same thing. We are being controlled by a crime sindicate, and it is on both sides. If you want to make a change, quit fighting over which one is better. It is like fighting over whether you would want to die in a fire or drown in water. The end result is the same. We are under attack and it is not by the jihad but by a devious, money hungry, multi party group. Read your history and all answers will be obvious. We as a people are in denial. All I have to say is WAKEUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he’s a f. nazi and everyone knows it. to say the least his dad was an ss officer for the nazis. rove=nazi and is also the grandson of a nazi who helped build awschwitz
October 12th, 2006 at 9:28 pm#47 Sorry Exley, you are back on the moron list. What the hell are you talking about???
October 12th, 2006 at 10:07 pm#97 Oh, shut up already. Go vote for Nader again.
October 12th, 2006 at 10:08 pm#97 I agree with you there.
October 12th, 2006 at 11:54 pm#100 Pay attention. 2004 saw two Bonesmen running for president. John (Kerry) Kohn is just like any other Repugnantcan. Lied his entire life covering up the fact that he was Jewish and has other interests in mind.
LOGIQ
Nice try troll. We aren’t anti-Semites here.
October 13th, 2006 at 10:39 am1st, Ill preface this statement by saying,”this is a CTA household and noone here will vote for Ahnold. There is a campaign commerical running frequently in California showing video of Ahnold cheerleading Bush.
October 13th, 2006 at 12:48 pmBut, I have to admit the first thing that comes to mind is “Bush isn’t running for Governor in California. Angeleides is making noise about NBC giving him equal time, who he should be petitioning is California’s democratic leadership. For almost 2 weeks straight, There was Ahnold on the news surrounded by Democrats signing bills democrats favored. Ahnold signing minimum wage increase,Ahnold signing a bill against genocide, Ahnold with Antonio Villaraigosa , Ahnold with the Dali Lama . During this time, the only place Angelides was seen was walking backwards in Ahnolds ads. I am finally seeing some Angelides ads, they are pretty good upbeat commercials, not like the slime he threw at Westley. Its probably too late to save Phil, I have to question the Democrats, how they let this seat get away when Ahnolds approval ratings were in the tank and there is such a strong anti GOP backlash ?

October 19th, 2006 at 1:25 pm“But the mark of a great presidency is not eloquence. It is not great delivery of speeches. It is results and the inspiration the president gives to the nation. In that sense, it cannot be denied that Dubya has been a great president”
He sure has inspired Europe… just not in the way any sane person would like.
