The journo had no trouble revealing his source, I see.
Maybe Porter WANTS BushCo to know. Revenge needs to have a signature to be “revenge” instead of just … karma.
“It gave me the germ of the idea,†Grey said in an interview. “This is where I heard about it. He set me on the trail.†Jennifer Millerwise Dyck, a spokeswoman for Goss, dismissed the idea that Goss had disclosed anything classified or sensitive when he made his remark about rendition to Grey.
classic republican response of denial and distract…
it has to be said – why does Porter Goss hate America?
I know some consternatives who want the whistleblower on secret CIA prisons in Europe thrown in jail for treason… it would be nice to be able to tell them that Bush’s own guy revealed the extraordinary rendition campaign… classic!
Folks, you lost me. Is it not a good thing if Goss provided information that brought extraordinary rendition to light? Why do we now glory in tar and feathering the informant? Don’t we want to encourage such whistleblowing behavior at this time?
#12 He didn’t do it intentionally I think. If he was “Blowing the Whistle” then we could pat him on the back or send him to Foley’s office for a rubdown…. Ha ha…..
Yes, we want the truth out. Stictly speaking, he is not a whistle-blower and we know that. Nobody except trolls are gonna want to tar and feather him for it. Of course, Goss will deny that he did it on purpose. I personally, don’t care how the truth got out, it DID and the journo who exposed it is the guy with the halo. It’s ironic though, that one of Bush’s men was the leaker, inadvertant or not. Just one more thing that the GOP cannot blame on Clinton….well, they can try. They always do.
It’s not surprising that Goss was kicked out of the CIA if he was the whistleblower. After all, incompetence from Goss, or the corruption from his assistant would not have been reason enough to get him out of the CIA. Corruption is to the Bush regime like a pig is to a trough.
Why are you people using the word “whistleblower” ? Did you not read the article ?
“Although that may have been the first time Mr. Grey heard the term, it certainly is not the first time the U.S. government publicly discussed this decades-old tool,†she said in an e-mail response to NEWSWEEK
It then explains that those previous disclosures were in relation to shipping prisoners to countries where they could face justice under existing charges. Disclosures which Goss’ comments fell in line with:
To be sure, Goss made no explicit reference to the details of extraordinary rendition in his comments to the British journalist and even the little he did say involved talk about rendering suspects in order to “bring them to some type of justice.â€
No doubt this Newsweek story is also a shocking development only a good year and a half after the New Yorker laid out a damn near essay-length recount of renditions policy over the past few decades.
It’s not short on accounts of US renditions of Islamic militants to US-friendly, torture-friendly foreign governments during the 1990s.
Likewise, I seem to recall ThinkProgress itself making repeated references to Clinton & Clarke’s statements that the previous executive “approved every CIA plan put before them for taking out bin Laden”. Well as you can read in The Looming Tower, one of those CIA plans proposed was to ship bin Laden to Egypt for torture and execution.
Much the same as the NSA domestic spying program, it is left to uninformed readers to be simply baffled as to how this program was another spook tool available at the drop of a hat immediately after the 9/11 attacks, and as the article states, came complete with a common name and anecdotes of it’s operation decades before that date.
All of that is beside the point though… the story here is that a former CIA head discussed the option of renditions with a reporter at the time the CIA and special forces were taking Afghanistan. Something you can read in two separate books from two different heads of the CIA units who lead this effort.
Sorry WTF was the point of this again ? As far as I can tell it amounts to having a comeback response about leaks to either the ex-head of the CIA who nobody has heard from since or right-wing pundits about an issue that was moot the few years ago when it was news.
Awesome.
Revenge is a dish best served cold…
October 12th, 2006 at 3:43 pmSo much for Goss, the author of “Loose Lips Sink Spies.”
