Tell Chris Wallace To Ask Rice About The U.S.S. Cole»

ricewall2.jpg

Last month, Fox’s Chris Wallace asked President Clinton why he didn’t respond to the Oct. 12, 2000 bombing of the U.S.S. Cole. He asked the question even though the “CIA and the FBI refused to certify that Bin Laden was responsible” until early 2001, which foreclosed the possibility of a full response during the Clinton administration.

Clinton pressed Wallace: “I want to know how many people in the Bush administration you asked why didn’t you do anything about the Cole.” Wallace responded, “We asked, we asked.”

In fact, he hadn’t asked. Neither Chris Wallace, nor his predecessor, Tony Snow, ever asked anyone in the Bush administration why they failed to respond to the bombing of the U.S.S Cole. (They had 42 opportunities with top administration officials to do so, including 23 with Condoleezza Rice.)

Wallace claimed he asked Clinton the question, because “I got a lot of e-mail from viewers.”

This weekend, Condoleezza Rice will be back on Fox News Sunday. Email Chris Wallace and tell him to ask the Secretary of State this question:

Prior to 9/11, you had eight months to respond to the al-Qaeda attack on the U.S.S. Cole. Why didn’t the Bush administration take action and put al-Qaeda out of business?

You can email Wallace HERE.

Digg It!

  1. Republicans are the fear and smear party Says:

She’ll just give some lame-brained answer that has nothing to do with the question and he won’t press it any further.

  2. ForTruth Says:

Hey Chris Wallace, ask Rice about the USS Cole.

    Ok what now?

  3. Latest World’s News » History » Tell Chris Wallace To Ask Rice About The U.S.S. Cole Says:

  4. Wayne Says:

#1 — I agree, she would never give a straight answer. As Yoda would say, ” The Doublespeak is strong with this one.”

  5. Jay Randal Says:

Chris Wallace is paid to defend the Bush Regime, so he will NOT ask Condi Rice any hard questions!

  6. Plunderbund » Hey Condi! What did Bush do about the USS Cole? Says:

[…] ThinkProgress is organizing a letter email-writing campaign to convince FOX News Sunday to ask Condi Rice the same question they asked Bill Clinton: […]

  7. pgl Says:

Possible Rice answers: (1) what’s the Cole - never heard of it; (2) Al Qaeda - what’s that?; (3) President Bush didn’t want to be “swatting flies”; and/or (4) President Bush does not believe in “tit for tat”. In other words, the job of the NSA was not to learn about the real threats to American security as watching the NFL and playing politics were her priorities, Osama bin Laden was no more important than that fly on the wall, and taking out Al Qaeda’s safe haven was nothing more than a tit.

  8. Karim Says:

    Lapdogs…the whole lot of them.

  9. Dumb_Fox Says:

    Obvious questions:

Why were you wearing a vest when you got out the plane in your last visit to Iraq?

Afghanistan - now Musharaf’s given the Taliban a safe haven in Waziristan, heckuva job, right?

North Korea - how does it feel to be totally dependent on China to fix nukular shit AND fund our deficit?

Iran - The ayatollahs continue to call your bluff. How do you sleep at night?

  10. Big Al Says:

I did send my email in and I hope it does some good. But I agree with Comment No. 1 that even if Chris Wallace asks the question, Condi will not give a direct answer and there will be no follow up question. Of course Fox News may not consider all of our emails proper since they may say that ThinkProgress organized the effort and that they don’t respond to manipulation by bloggers. All we can do is hope.

  11. tom+baker Says:

Better yet, have Wallace ask her why she blew off the anti-terror strategy paper Richard Clarke handed her when the Bushistas moved in to DC.

But, 1-5 are right - there will be only softballs, hit with so much spin and spit as to make one puke.

  12. hellinabucket Says:

I’m sure we can think of other questions to ask.

Like this one: If the threat coming in the form of a mushroom cloud was enough to throw 500 billion halfway around the world why are we only spending 1.6 billion to protect our ports from the same threat of a mushroom cloud?

  13. Judd Says:

We need to make sure this question is asked. If we send Wallace several thousand emails and he doesn’t ask the question, that’s important to know. If he does ask the question and Rice dodges, that’s an important story as well.

  14. John+Gilpins Says:

Chris Wallace has a selective memory. I think the press in general has given the Bush administration a free ride. I think those days are slowly coming to an end. Let’s hope so! Chris, let’s ask some hardball questions.

BTW, isn’t Condi wearing the same outfit as Mr. Paul, in his television interview the other day. The pink outfits look amazingly identical. Talk about identical. Slap a moustache on Condi, and it becomes obvious that she and Mr. Paul were separated at birth. OMG! OMG! OMG!

Is Condi on The List? Please David Corn, publish The List.

    John

  15. pete Says:

    her answer is irrelevant.

on defense and security issues, she is a proven liar .

  16. BDG Says:

During the 2000 campaign, didn’t then Gov. Bush pledge to seek revenge on whoever was found to be responsible for the Cole bombing? The CIA certified that UBL was responsible soon after Bush took office, and he did nothing. Can’t find that quote though.

  17. Zimzone Says:

Chris Wallace swiftboated his own Father.
Condi thinks KKKarl is her Father.
Bush’s Father still has to scold him.

Chris W. will no more ask a real question of Condi
    than he would the Chimperor.

Chris Wallace is a ‘girly man’ with a smirk on his face.

Why does Chris Wallace hate Americans?

  18. tom+baker Says:

ya think maybe after Condi’s out of a job in DC we’ll get to see her boobies in Playboy? I for one, sure hope so.

  19. Wayne Says:

Now if it was Mike Wallace, he would have Condi piddling in her seat with the tough questions. Chris is not even a shadow of his father, Chris is a sellout.

  20. Republicans are the fear and smear party Says:

Condosleazza Rice: “Well, Chris, that was all Clinton’s fault.”

Wallace: “Are you dating anyone these days?”

  21. Bluedog49 Says:

Question for Condi you will never hear on FOX: Dr. Rice, don’t you think a president’s National Security Advisor should take the time to read a 90-page report on Iraq’s nuclear ambitions before you invade Iraq because of their nuclear ambitions?

  22. G.W.SuperChrist Says:

Wallace leaves the unimportant issues like the USS Cole for Clinton - while saving the pressing issues of the country for Rice…

WALLACE: Here we go. That was only number five on the Rice hit parade. Here’s number two. Take a listen.

    (AUDIO CLIP IS PLAYED)

WALLACE: I love you getting into your groove here.

RICE: It’s a great piece. I also exercise to that. Some mornings it’s Brahms. Some mornings it’s Cream.

WALLACE: And for bonus points, can you name the members of Cream?

RICE: Well, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton, and I’m blanking on the last important member.

    WALLACE: Jack Bruce.

RICE: Jack Bruce, of course. Of course.

WALLACE: Well, you know, I’m sorry, you’re going to have to get the home game of “Fox News Sunday” and play along with us at home.

CROWLEY: …………………what the U.S. will do about the apparent attack on the USS Cole. BUSH: I — I hope that the — we can gather enough intelligence to figure out who did the act and take the necessary action. There must be a consequence.
    http://transcripts.cnn.com/ TRANSCRIPTS/ 0010/ 12/ ip.00.html

    that’s pretty much it in a nutshell…..

  24. bs Says:

and for all of you running around with your pitiful yellow magnet ribbons on lyour car that say ’support our troops’ and all the rest you are NOT supporting the troops you are supporting china. just look on the piece of paper you ripped you lovely ribbon from and can’t wait to dash out the door with your big smile to put on your car. MADE IN CHINA. now maybe folks will wake up to ‘china’.

watch this video. funny shit but true.

  25. paul Says:

Won’t anyone here admit that it is not really intuative to ask someone to address something that happened on someone else’s watch. It seems more intuative to ask Clinton about things that happened under Clinton. Besides, after 9/11, how relevant is the Cole, in terms of Al Qaeda and the Bush Administration. It is like complaining about how the arson broke your door down after the entire house has been burned down.

  26. tom+baker Says:

26 - So now it’s ok for us to ask why Bush & co. screwed up on 9/11? Which standard are we employing today, Paul? The one that makes Bush look good, or the other one, that makes Clinton look bad. I know we only have the choice of those two, but we should agree on which one it will be before the daily banterfest begins.

  27. paul Says:

Clinton: the cole happened on your watch, what did you do about it?

Bush: 9/11 happened on your watch, what did you do about it?

  28. bs Says:

    #26

isn’t it also correct to ask why the the cia wouldn’t clear the responsibility of obl on the attack? i would suspect it was because they already knew in advance that bushwhack was going to take over the whitehouse and the hillbilly wanted revenge. these pricks had this shit all worked out. what was he suppose to do with what 27 days left in the whitehouse. if he did attack then folks would complain that he left a mess for bushwhack. just like we are going to do when the dem pres takes office in 08. remember we will be there for sure through 2010.

ALL OF EM ARE F. CRIMINALS

  29. null Says:

he’ll ask the question but she’ll know the question before hand and channel blame back to clinton

  30. Steven McCarty Says:

Don’t email Chris, email Fox and thier sponsers that you will no longer watch this channel because of their slanted propaganda. Then follow up, remove this channel from your “favorite” button, skip past it, watch Oberman not O reilly.Make a real difference/statement. “Fair and Balanced” my ass.

  31. peterh Says:

Clinton: the cole happened on your watch, what did you do about it?
    Comment by paul —

Here’s Bush’s quote in Oct `00: “I hope that we can gather enough intelligence to figure out who did the act and take the necessary action”

Now….under Clinton, intel is gathered to figure out who did it, but before the report is finished, Clinton is out and Bush is in…..report is thus given to bush….and he did what Paul? You may now fill in the blanks Paul….

  32. BushIsSatan Says:

Okay will send the mail, how about TP cover loss of Habeus??

  33. fastiller Says:

Possible Rice answers: (1) what’s the Cole - never heard of it; (2) Al Qaeda - what’s that?; (3) President Bush didn’t want to be “swatting flies”; and/or (4) President Bush does not believe in “tit for tat”.
    ~ ~ pgl, comment #7

Following from this list: (5) No one could have conceived that we would have been expected to follow-up on something that happened during our predecessor’s administration.

  34. bs Says:

or is it the fault of clinton not attacking first and asking questions if any later.

  35. bs Says:

    (2) Al Qaeda - what’s that?;

if you were to say taliban she might know, i say might.

  36. tom+baker Says:

So Paul, you’re saying (not outright, but by implication) that Clinton should’ve hastily invaded some Middle Eastern country in the name of the Cole? Or, could we outrightly and fairly state that Cole was totally Clinton’s fault and that 9/11 was totally Bush’s? In either case, the point that you hold in your mind, but will not state forthrightly, is mistaken.

  37. homer+simpson Says:

Thought this was news worthy…but not on this blog huh ..

Hey lib’s, Air America just went tits up… Get out of your Bush hate bubble that obviously a small minority of you Anti-American losers cloak yourself into and listen to all sides.

Air Amerika proves that your rants can’t stand up in the Free market of ideas that we live in!!

Oh, wait, It’s Bush’s fault they went BK…. My Bad

  38. RUCerious Says:

Why waste your breath asking. That is of course, unless you are keeping a catalog of the lies she has been telling to use at her war crimes trial.

  39. RUCerious Says:

Doh! Perhaps you can’t read Homer. The AA bankruptcy story has been up for about two hours now.
Woo Hoo, now we can all listen to Mikey Savage, that rascal!

  40. BushIsSatan Says:

    Homer+simpson

Personally I like music on my radio, I don’t need to listen to some nutbag like Rush Limpdick, like you brainless people on the right.

And funny that 70% of the WORLD thinks bush is a nutcase lying piece of shit, only you few ass kissers left. Hell he could ass-rape your 9 year old son right in front of you and you woul still love your leader.

    Go away!

  41. tom+baker Says:

Actually Homer, it’s because Liberals have important jobs and take care of their families - they can’t sit around all day listening to AM radios, like you and your parking lot attendant pals do.

  42. Bluedog49 Says:

Just scroll down and you’ll see a thread about Air America, shitheal.

  43. pnac Says:

And ask how much 9/11 did benefit the neocons. C’mon Wallace, show some realy journalism balls.

  44. Briseadh+na+Faire Says:

You might also want to ask about this:

“On February 3, 2006, 23 suspected or convicted Al-Qaeda members escaped from jail in Yemen. This number included 13 who were convicted of the USS Cole bombings and the bombing of the French tanker Limburg in 2002. Among those who reportedly escaped was Al-Badawi. Al-Qaeda’s Yemeni number two Abu Assem al-Ahdal may also be among those now on the loose.” from the widipedia article.

It’s been 8 months, far more than the 3 months Clinton had to track down the suspects of the Cole bombing. What has Bush done to recapture these convicted terrorists?

  45. Briseadh+na+Faire Says:

Also from the wikipedia article, “Al-Nashiri, believed to be the operation’s mastermind, is currently being held by the U.S. at an undisclosed location.”

Ask Rice if holding someone in an undisclosed location is a violation of international law. (It is. It’s called extraordinary rendition.)

  46. Douglas.G Says:

I also think she should be asked the question, and I am just as sure we will get as good of an answer is slick willie gave. Doesn’t make either one right, but it will be intereting to hear her answer.

  47. homer+simpson Says:

    Looks like I hit a nerve w/ the Lefties….

Don’t worry, your sorry asses still have ALL the major newspapers, the alphbet networks and NPR to keep up your hate America speak..

Now we know where all the anti-establishement Hippie Radicals ended up… Put down your bongs, take off your sandles, take a bath and get a haircut! Look around, this is actually a great country to live it!

  48. tom+baker Says:

49 - Highly doubtful bro - cause Condi was asleep at the switch, while “slick willie” was all over it, 24-7. You can repeat Rush’s lies all you want - don’t make’em true, and it don’t make make you sound any too smart, neither.

  49. tom+baker Says:

Homer - you couldn’t hit a nerve if you used a Buick to try. Keep posting though, ’cause your brand of stupid is even funnier than your namesake’s

  50. Bluedog49 Says:

Homer, this is a great country in which to live. And, it would be a lot greater without blind worshippers of authority like you. I think the people who actually DO hate America are those who do not appreciate our Founders and our ideals. That would be you.

  51. thinkingmime Says:

bankruptcy chapter 11 - is re-org. not pushing up daisys yet.
there are several airlines flying and have been for years under
chapter 11. so we still wil have them on air for a while to come.
Ed Shultz, Stephanie Miller, Thom Hatmann are doing just fine,
crappy management at AA is what has caused this action not the
message. Hate radio is Right Wing radio - that is a fact.
    drop dead homer.

  52. homer+simpson Says:

Actually there folks, I WAS a Dem from a Dem family. Then I got “edumacated” on the Dem’s, or victims party and became an Independant for I don’t think the Repub’s have all the answers either.

Must admit, I do vote Repub 90% of the time & listen and read diligently to both sides…. (Which you folks need to do)

  53. homer+simpson Says:

Yo, thinkingmime… This is Homer, still alive & kicking…:)

That’s it, blame it on the management. It has nothing to do with the radio host who bring ZERO to the table other than hate America or hate Bush rants.

You proved my point there Bucko, the Dems’ are the party of victims!
“It’s not our fault we’re going for a dirt nap!”

    You cats are pretty funny.

  54. Yeti_Steve Says:

Dude, I did it. I won’t watch his crappy show, but I submitted the question.

  55. thinkingmime Says:

homer that is why you are an asshole.
most of us LOVE our country - as do these host you denigrate.
We Love America HATE BUSH and all that these evil fascist represent.
I am a recovering republican and now registered as an independent.
But the greedy bastards in power only care about tax cuts for the
rich and welfare for corperations. War for profits, and using and
making fools of well meaning Christians who have forgotten the
sermon on the mount and to judge by works not by what these
    hypocrites say.

  56. homer+simpson Says:

    thinkingmime…

So you now revert to namecalling….

Typical leftie living in our “evil fascist” country. Obviously you have never picked up a history book ot see what a “real” fascist regime is like.

I actually feel sorry for people like you who do not understand that the U.S. is not “bad” and Bush is not the devil…

  57. nym@alias.net Says:

So you now revert to namecalling….

the rat that smelt it dealt it. hypocrit. look into the mirror. or perhaps upthread on post # 40… yeah, namecalling.

how ignorant are you? don’t know a lick of business sense ’bout bankruptcy, pointing fingers at actions for the exact same thing yourself propagates….. damned, are you a pedephile too?

no wonder the dem wave is about to take back america.

with enemas like you, who needs repubs.

  58. Citizen+Dad Says:

Judd is as dishonest as a Clintonista can be. He knows that President Bush did not take office until January 2001. He knows that President Clinton did nothing from October 2000 to January 2001 (although he did find time to pardon Marc Rich), and by his last day in office the trail had grown cold, to say the least. During that same period, as Judd well knows, the Clinton administration blocked efforts by the Bush transition team to prepare for a prospoective transfer of power during the 2000 election dispute.

Judd also knows that obstructionism by Senate Democrats delayed the assembly of President Bush’s anti-terrorism team in 2001. Moreover, the unflattering draft after action reports that Sandy Bergler smuggled out of the national archives and destroyed were never shared with the Bush administration by Clinton’s outgoing antiterrorism team. Finally, Judd knows that, when some of the Cole bombers came back into custody, as a result of our successful war on terror, we were able to see them brought to justice.

Thus, to paraphrase Bill Clinton, President Bush did more than anyone else to go after the bombers of the U.S.S. Cole.

  59. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Citizen Dad, what proof do you have of what somebody else “knows?”

Are you willing to stand trial by the same methods you employ against others? You better be, for that is how God judges people such as yourself.

  60. tom+baker Says:

CD (you know that also stands for crossdresser?) You just rage away with your clinton this and berger that as much as you want - it doesn’t do away with the fact that the GOP is going down in flames, with no one to blame but itself. If you want to blame any of the failures and scandals now in the paper on some guys who’ve been out of power in Congress for 12 years, and out of the white house for 6, you go right ahead. Jesus! it’s like a guy pleading innocent to killing his own wife, on the grounds that some other guy cheated on his. Some “personal responsibility” you’re peddling there.

  61. homer+simpson Says:

You must have recieved your misinfomation from Air America…Oh wait, ther’re going BK…

    Baaa-ha-ha!!

  62. tom+baker Says:

Homer - u done tickled yourself with that one, didn’t ya?? It would be awesome, too, if anyone gave a rat’s ass about it…..

Hope you’ll still be around in December, after the investigations are underway in DC….it’ll be a hoot, I promise.

  63. homer+simpson Says:

    TB

Just heard the the RNC hired Sandy Burgler to do with any incriminating evidence. You guys are screwed again!

  64. paul Says:

I don’t think Clinton can be blamed for not acting on the Cole, and I don’t think Bush can be blamed for inaction prior to 9/11. I guess the point I am trying to make is, that there is always information and continuity lost when there is a change in leadership. That’s why you should all think twice before voting democrat in November.

  65. Think Progress » 10,000 People Demand Chris Wallace Ask Rice About The U.S.S. Cole Says:

  66. unbelievable Says:

I sent my email as well - but agree with most folks here that even if he does ask, she’ll dodge it and he’ll let her.

  67. unbelievable Says:

That’s why you should all think twice before voting democrat in November.
    Comment by paul — October 13, 2006 @ 5:17 pm

According to your ridiculous logic, you are to blame for everything Bush has done by voting for him in 2000, and forcing an administration change.

Okay fine, your fault. Works for me.

  68. tom+baker Says:

What was that, Homer? - couldn’t make it past your Second Grade spelling and Grammar. Congratulations on the GED though, seriously. Whoever said it took an IQ over 90 to do that is surely eatin’ some crow today!

I just imagine you sitting there, high-fiving your cardboard cutout of Rush, giggling to yourself ’cause you “scored some points” on “those stupid lib-ruls”, and I just about pee my pants with laughter. Thanks, for sharing what kind of lonely dullard you are with all of us. It has really brightened up my day.

  69. craig Says:

Here is one of millions of emails requests to ask the same questions to Rice that you asked clinton.

BTW, you are not 1/5th the man your father is

  70. paul Says:

Go ahead blame me for near record low unemployment, outstanding GDP growth, record stock market levels, record levels of personal wealth, outstanding additions to the Supreme Court, introducing democracy to a very difficult part of the world, bringing Saddam to accountability, keeping Osama on the run, 5 years free of domestic terrorism, addressing problems instead of wishing them away; go ahead blame it all on me.

  71. right++on Says:

In other words, Clinton screwed the pooch on the Cole attack, so if Wallace asks Rice why the Bush Administration did nothing, Clinton is off the hook then, right. Sound logic there.

The search for a credible liberal idea continues.

  72. WaltTheMan Says:

    #74 - right++on,
For a creditable idea, consider winning WWII? Any war.

  73. not+impressed+with+the+U.S. Says:

To all you as*holes who are crowing about Air America’s bankruptcy, who the f*ck really cares about that but you pathetic neo-cons desperate to have something, anything to divert attention from all the shit that has hit the fan in your camp.

I don’t need a radio station to tell me that you fascists are DONE!!!!!

  74. thinkingmime Says:

    paul,
unemployment is low - because many employed stopped looking and are now living in the fringes - many of the jobs are low paying, no benefits - dead end jobs. Iraq is a disaster - hardly a democracy. Afghanistan is now in the hands of Nato cause we could not get it done due to the wrong focus on Iraq, Supreme court appointees is a matter of opinion milions of Americans think they suck, there were at least 5 years under Clinton where there was NO terrorist attack at home - whats your point? Name one problem that faces the average American (not top 5% of Americans) that this corperate loving fascist adminstration has solved. Just one please.

  75. tom+baker Says:

#78 - Don’t bother Paul with the “Consumer Reports Edition” of the facts, he much prefers just watching the snazzy commercials.

  76. tom+baker Says:

#74 right on - do you mean screwed-the-pooch as “didn’t invade Iraq for it”, or screwed-the-pooch as in “let it happen” like your favorite legacy- pledge-harvard/yale-elitist-from-new-england did? [sorry, but you can only choose one]

there’s an easy-to-understand analogy going around that might help you on this, it goes: if we’d applied neocon logic to Pearl Harbor, we’d have attacked Taiwan, then turned and invaded Hong Kong.”

Your poor, poor Dubbie. I hope you’re already old, so you at least don’t have to live through very much of history’s drawing and quartering of the poor lil ol rich boy. It would be fun to be around to see your children shake their heads as they walk away from you, while you rant about lib-ruls and such there in the Home.

  77. homer+simpson Says:

    Un-thinkingmime

Open your door and get out in the real world Hippie.

Does life really suck that bad for you? Most people think most everything is actually pretty grand.

Question: Why do people from all corners of the world face life threating conditions to try to sneak into this country?

Answer: Because cleaning toilets in an Arby’s for sub min wage is 1000% better than the crap whole county they crawled in from.

Yea, we’re not perfect but we still are the most envied country on the planet.

So, put down your spliff and take off your tie-dye shirt and experience what makes this country great…Freedom and diversity!

  78. tom+baker Says:

    hey homer - bwahahaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah!

    u funny man

  79. JPark Says:

#26 Der, the investigation ended on Bush’s watch. And…he did nothing. Does this surprise you?

  80. JPark Says:
