Emails Suggest White House Political Concern Over Foley In 2004; Snow Issues Non-Denial Denial»

The Palm Beach Post has published emails between ex-Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) and Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) suggesting that the White House considered Foley a political liability as early as 2004 and asked him not to attend events with President Bush.

Foley wrote to Gov. Bush on Sept. 29, 2004:

Have I done something to offend the White House … I am always getting the shaft … they came to ft pierce a few weeks ago and said I was not allowed to attend … yet joe negron is there …

Tomorrow Potus is in Martin County and I am told I am not allowed to be there either. I can’t quite figure what I have done but this is a continuing pattern of slights … I have constantly put the President in the best possible light on everything from haiti to hurricanes … sorry to trouble you … and I wouldn’t if this wasn’t so frequent …

Gov. Bush responded that day: “I will try to help. I know it is nothing you have done. Promise. I think it relates to debate prep time. Jeb.”

Foley also sent Jeb Bush “a cryptic message in the fall of 2005, roughly coinciding with the time” that a former page complained to Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-LA) about inappropriate emails from Foley.

I need your thoughts on something … are you in south florida or somewhere we can meet up,” Foley messaged Bush on Oct. 3, 2005.

“I am up in Tallahassee. Will a call suffice?” Bush responded.

Foley asked Bush to call him at his Fort Pierce office or on his cellphone.

At today’s press conference, Tony Snow issued a non-denial denial when asked whether President Bush didn’t want to be seen with Foley. “As far as we know the answer is no,” Snow said, “but I’ll try to give you an actual definitive [answer].” We’ll be waiting.

I’m sure the White House would have allowed Mr. Foley in the Free Speach zones. ;]

Geez. Let’s see, use people up to obtain your ends and then toss them asunder. Fits the Bush pattern perfectly. To wit: Colin Powell, John O’Neil, the Religious Right, and now the Grand Old Pervert, Foley.

The trolls will be on here saying you silly liberals first you claim that Karl Rove did it and now you claim Bush did it when will you stop overreaching. Jame Dobson already blames Media Matter for spinning the foleygate out of control. http://mediamatters.org/items/200610120007 Dobson baselessly claimed Media Matters “spun” his Foleygate comments

See that is why we should get liberals underoath and Hastert is a great house leader because he found a way to make Nacy Policy purger herself. Sure Rove is innocent and Libby is innocent but you silly liberals should know once you purger underoath you will be just as curropt as we are. Who cares if you are innocent and try to escape the oath we will just say it means you knew and are covering it up.

We will accuse you with lies because we are the Holy Moral value community. We have The Christian Right so dumb they do not know we make fun of them behind their backs. So have fun silly liberals when you loose the House and Senate thanks to DIEBOLD oh and we will just claiim you are the fringe far left when it happens.

Yours Truely Mr. Draft Dodging Republican.

P.S. Did I mention just because more democrats Serve in the military then Republicans we will accuse you of being traitors and unpatriotic. 4 more years of George Bush opps I forgot that’s our November surprise for you when we win the House and Senate again we change the rules to allow Bush to rule forever. Long live Jesusland!!!!!!!!!

  13. bobcat_grad Says:

    I congratulate you, BonesTwo.

It takes guts to keep a sense of humor in the face of impending doom…. for Republicans, that is.

I can see why you are so upset. I mean, if I blindly supported a political party for years that was incapable of running the country while having absolute power in all three branches of the government, I’d be sad, too.

  14. And+You+Thought+REAGAN+Was+Stupid Says:

BonesTwo: here’s a few real ones:

“No one could have predicted an attack with airplanes.” - Condi.

“[Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside United States] was a historical document.” - Condi.

“No one predicted there might be a breach of the levees.” - George W.

“We will hunt down those responsible [for 9/11]” - George W.

… this list goes on, and on. See, I don’t have to make them up.

  15. truetrue Says:

OK . So somebody told the whitehouse Foley is queer, and he might get outed, and then Bush might look bad for campaigning with him……

    So what?

    This is not an issue.

    Foley-gate is over.

  16. NoMoreBush Says:

Shouldn’t number 7 be in a jo chat room with pre-pubescent Aryan boys — isn’t that the GOP way?

  17. AHiddenSaint Says:

truetrue, foleygate still has steam because Republicans are stupid on the Scandel they are providing the steam. Everytime a Republican tries to shift blame to a Democrat all they are doing is showing how stupid they are. Republicans were in control of the House and Senate. They will loose prepare for it the people are wising up to Republican lies. Republican days are numbed.

  18. bobcat_grad Says:

    #17

    Truetrue -

I believe the implication (granted, this seems to be entirely that, an implication) is that the White House was aware of the ongoing inappropriate contact Foley was having with children. Not that he was gay.

Don’t get me wrong, they probably had an inkling about that too, but I believe more people care about the GOP leadership’s coverup of the pedophilia than the sexual orientation.

  19. tom+baker Says:

    Wow! Four commas! That’s powerful.

And Republicans didn’t win for the 40 years the Democrats held Congress. In fact, it took 40 years for the Democrats to use up the goodwill of America before they got kicked out.

Only took Republicans 12 years. I guess they are better at some things.

  23. middle+guy Says:

  24. Canteen Boy Says:

I know why Mark “the Spark” Foley got exiled. It was after that time the Bush Bros., Mr. Delay, Mr. Reed and some of the other fellas got all drunk, snorted all of that coke and wanted to play “Deliverance” again…it was their favorite ‘game’. Mr. Foley screamed “I will not be the Pig again goddamnit!” The others laughed harshly and went after him like Vikings. It was horrible. Anyway after he healed up Mr. Foley wanted back “in” and by then the other guys had made up their minds that they just were not that into him anymore. It was really sad. Mr. Foley cried a lot.

  25. NoMoreBush Says:

  31. chimpeach Says:

    BonesTwo

Try to focus now. Foley’s a Republican. The pages worked for Republicans. The leaders in the House who were told about it and did nothing are Republican. The page who tipped off ABC about the story is a Republican. The people having to come before the House Ethics Committee now and spill their guts are Republicans.

Who is it that’s responsible for all this terrible stuff happening to the Republicans a few weeks before the election? C’mon, you can do it. Just say it. That’s right. Republicans.

Dumb, crooked, lying, hypocritical, pathetic Republicans. And they had it coming.

  32. THE RED QUEEN Says:

Foley has a book deal to publish all of his most private e-mails–I hear it’s gonna be a real page turner :)

  33. therightisalwayswrong Says:

Your gossipy bitch (Foley) was a democrat until he figured out that the democrat’s ideology wouldn’t get him any votes.

Ooh, good one, paul. Now explain how he got elected. Are you saying that Republicans in his district are dumb enough to vote for anyone who has an “R” after his name and they don’t care what he stands for? Did he get his party’s endorsement or didn’t he? If he was really a Democrat in disguise, wouldn’t it have made sense for him to either switch parties after he got in or just vote like a Democrat? Check out his voting record. He’s voted like a Republican all along. If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

You really shouldn’t just repeat the talking points without giving them a little thought first.

Works for me, paul. Tough days ahead for the Bush Gophers, huh. Oh, well, look at the bright side. At least Bill O’Lielly, Hannity, and Rush Limpdick will REALLY have something to piss and moan about, you know?

That’s okay. I don’t mind arguing with them. I’m sure half of these trolls are getting paid to come here anyway. I can’t imagine someone setting himself up for abuse like that for free. We really should make them earn their paychecks.

  39. Doctor+Texas Says:

Just like Bush pretends to be from Texas, the GOP pretends to be tough and manly. Turns out y’all are a bunch of child molesters, drunks and homos. Heh! See YOU on Nov. 8th….pansies.

#39. chimpeach. very nice! you’re right (for once).

  41. AHiddenSaint Says:

chimpeach, I can there are some really stupid people out there espically freepers who believe the Democrats coined this scandel. These people also do not understand why we call them the radical right when all they care about is power. The Republicans are nothing but facists if they can attack or hate a group they will. Oh do not forget it was proven that a republican was posting fake messages from the office so I also wouldn’t put that past them.

  42. chimpeach Says:

chimpeach. very nice! you’re right (for once).

That’s mighty big of you to say that (but your arithmetic is off).

  43. Citizen+Dad Says:

As usual, Nico and TP are making it up as they go along. There is nothing in the above-quoted emails that even remotely expresses any “White House Political Concern Over Foley.” Moreover, these communications say nothing that would demonstrate to a normal person any knowledge of Foley’s improper communications with former pages.

Shame on you, Nico. You should resign from TP for twisting the truth beyond all recognition. And shame on TP for allowing Nico to post such obvious lies.

  44. Citizen+Dad Says:

BTW, there is nothing strange or suspicious about the President’s question (”Will a call suffice?”) - especially when one considers the fact that Tallahassee and Ft. Pierce are more than 365 miles apart.

Nico really ought to do a bit more research before posting this kind of nonsense. As a certain wacky wabbit used to say, “What a maroon!”

  45. chimpeach Says:

    #47 & 48

Can you offer an explanation for the White House wanting to keep Foley away when Bush was in his neighborhood?

“they came to ft pierce a few weeks ago and said I was not allowed to attend … yet joe negron is there …

“Tomorrow Potus is in Martin County and I am told I am not allowed to be there either. “

And it was Jeb, not the prez, who asked if a phonecall would suffice.

  46. gorn Says:

“Why do Foley’s messages read as if they were written by a socially insecure twelve year old?”

    Emulating his target audience?

  47. Citizen+Dad Says:

Can you offer an explanation for the White House wanting to keep Foley away when Bush was in his neighborhood?

In the neighborhood? What a crock! In case you haven’t looked at a map recently - or maybe you just went to an urban public high school - that’s like saying that Pittsburgh is “in the neighborhood” of Indianapolis.; or that Las Vegas is “in the neighborhood” of San Diego. You need to get out more and see the world, little leftie!!

  48. Marie Says:

What did Bush know two years ago?
Foley was going to be asked to resign AFTER the election this fall; until then, they needed to keep his seat and use his popularity and money - after that he would be of little value to them and a high risk, because they were aware of his secrets.

  49. Brendan O'Maidian Says:

    Boys, boys, calm down…and girls.
All of you are acting just as the bushes do when they are at their pedophiliastic orgies at the White House. Try to remember this little boy love was going on way back in the 80s when papa bush was veep, then prez. For sure you have to believe JEB, George W., and Marvin were all waiting in line for the latest interns from Boys Town to be tossed aside by papa so they could have sloppy seconds. I’ll bet rove was there, too, to help clean up the mess.
Can you imagine how much dirt Hastert has on these White House perverts? No wonder dumya is standing up for Hastert; if he didn’t, ol’ Dennis just might let leak some salacious tidbits. Would Gannon/Guckert be mentioned?
At least JFK, RFK, and WJC had women in their harems, not little boys. VOTE REPUBLICAN! VOTE GOP: Gay Old Perverts!

  50. libra Says:

“Foley wrote to Gov. Bush on Sept. 29, 2004:

  51. RUCerious Says:

Ahem.. We’d like to categorically deny any accusation that we denied earlier, if it’s stated intention was to deny the fact that, well, pretty much any old fact, or for that matter, any crap we just dreamed up.

You need to get out more and see the world, little leftie!!

It’s so much fun to slap you down when you shoot your mouth off like an ignorant putz.

You’re so incredibly wrong. It’s not anything like “saying that Pittsburgh is ‘in the neighborhood’ of Indianapolis.” But it’s EXACTLY like saying that Bush was visiting Foley’s congressional district. Because, that’s what he was doing!!!

The president came to Foley’s congressional district and they told Foley to stay away. Now that you’ve been straightened out on that, do you want to try again and give us your guess as to why they told Foley that he shouldn’t be accompanying Bush in his own CD?

Go ahead. Entertain us with another ignorant answer.

  55. BonesTwo Says:

Brendan O’Maidian you are an idiot, and unfortunately for you, representative of your movement. You sound like a Dear penthouse - white house version. But I understand that you have to go to that extreme to keep this story with legs so that your party might have a chance this Nov since you guys sure as hell arent going to talk about your issues.

Yea, i want to raise taxes…..reject.
Yea, I want to make the terrorist feel safe….reject
In fact, yea, I think the terrorists have more rights than you do…..reject

    Beat it you conservative wannabee.

  57. Jay Randal Says:

Pres. Dubya Bush and Karl Rove must have known about Foley stalking underage teenage male Pages, so they kept him at arm’s length from them, but at the same time they did not care that he molested Pages as long as he did not get caught doing it!

  58. Ian Says:

While the reason for Foley’s status as persona non grata in W’s 2004 electioneering swing through Florida might prove as interesting as the speculation about it, there is another more pressing question which has remained curiously unasked about Foley’s emails with Jeb - Did Foley ever ask about Jeb’s penis size?

  62. Citizen+Dad Says:

It’s so much fun to slap you down

Yeah, you seem to enjoy slapping lots of things. Whatsamatta? Jealous that Foley doesn’t IM you anymore?

Speaking of slapdowns, I can’t resist quoting John Hinderaker, from Power Line:

“[T]o the extent that people are offended (as they should be) by homosexual Congressmen hitting on teenage boys, does anyone seriously believe that the solution is to elect Democrats? I doubt it. Democrats are far more associated with both homosexuality and sexual misbehavior than Republicans.”

Ahh-h-h-h, nothing quite like the fragrance of truth in the morning!

  63. Ian Says:

gee… sorry about the multiple posting (or maybe I’m really curious about Jeb’s package)

  64. EconAtheist Says:

Since when does anyone in this administration care about “debate prep time?” They simply b.s. their respective ways through everything and rely on the lazy media to call them on it.

  65. Karim Says:

Makes you wonder, what exactly did the White House know about Foley, and when did he know it.

  66. hobojo Says:

Bush is part of this all male 69 Repug. club of perverts.

  67. Brendan+O'Maidian Says:

    For BonesTwo:

Does your name imply that you can bone two people at once, or two apertures at once, or two male pages at once?
To call me a conservative “wannabee” (sic) is the same as calling dumya bush a warm and sensitve freedom fighter. The only time I’m conservative is when I throw out the trash in separate containers, and that is conserving.
With people such as you hanging around, yes, the “terrorists” are feeling wonderful.
    ‘Tis pity he’s a bore.

Thank you. That was truly entertaining. I knew you wouldn’t let us down. I’ll make it as simple as I can and hope that you can follow it.

    1. Mark Foley is the U.S. House Representative for Florida’s 16th congressional district.
    2. Ft. Pierce (as in “…they came to ft pierce a few weeks ago and said I was not allowed to attend…”) is in Florida’s 16th CD.
    3. Martin County (as in “…Tomorrow Potus is in Martin County and I am told I am not allowed to be there either.”) is also in Florida’s 16th CD.
    4. The president (not Jeb, but George) was in Foley’s congressional district and Foley wasn’t allowed to accompany him.
    5. Tallahassee has nothing to do with it. That was a different matter. Repeat - Tallahassee has nothing to do with it.

If you can’t read and understand these articles, you shouldn’t be commenting on them. Okay?

  70. chimpeach Says:

    #68 Citizen Douche

Speaking of slapdowns, I can’t resist quoting John Hinderaker, from Power Line:

Well, you really should resist quoting Ass Rocket. He has an aversion to facts, especially when they don’t support his opinions. And they so rarely do. I guess that explains why you’re always wrong.
