I seem to recall about a week ago you critical of Bush for not negotiating with NK and repeatedly referenced Clinton threatening them with military action as something which had (at least the appearance of) a positive effect on NK as a nuclear threat.

What’s the idea ? You want Bush to negotiate with NK without a military option ? Really WTF is the point of you posting this ? The implied suggestion appears to be you think it is somehow a bad move not to rule this out at a time when it has never before been more important to have a military option taken seriously by NK.

The Japanese did bomb Pearl Harbor but, it was also known that Emporer Hirohito was in the process of brokering a surrender with us when we dropped fat man and little boy on them. The sad (and scary) truth is that we dropped those bombs because we wanted to know what they would do. Regardless, incinerating tens of thousands of Japanese civilians was hardly an appropriate response to their attack of a military installation. Note Oppenheimers, now famous, quoting of the Tibetan Book of the Dead after seeing what he had wrought in Hiroshima and Nagasaki: “I am become death; destroyer of worlds”

The United States did not build the Panama Canal alone (The French actually began the project). We held the lease on the canal (which we fought having to give back tooth and nail) and completely cut the Panamanian government out of the money for MANY MANY years. This is not to mention what we did in foisting Manny Noriega on their poor people but I digress.

The United States may not have directly killed 600,000 Iraqis but epidimeologists (sp?) from John’s Hopkins University and an Iraqi aid organization (I forget which one) recently submitted a heavily peer-reviewed report stating that 600,000 more Iraqis have died since 2003 than would have if we had not attacked Iraq. Face it, Iraq is a meatgrinder of epic proportions and, perhaps, the single largest foreign policy blunder in our nation’s history.

The US was founded using genocide. Our ancestors took blankets infested with small pox from hospitals and sold them to the Mohawk, the Lakota and other tribes (as did my ancestors the French). Thousands of native Americans (including entire tribes) were killed in our conquest of this great and beautiful land we now call home.

Oh, and before you try to tell me that I’m un-American for knowing my history. I’m not proud of any of these facts but they are our history. I am a veteran, a patriot, and an adept student of history. You are obviously none of the above.
