A new CNN poll shows that public disapproval of President Bush has reached an all-time high. Sixty-one percent of Americans now disapprove of Bush’s handling of his job as President:

Some other highlights from the poll:
–64 percent disapprove of Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq.
– 70 percent of women and 58 percent of men now oppose the war in Iraq.
– 60 percent of Americans believe the situation with North Korea can be resolved using only economic and diplomatic measures.
– More than 70 percent of Americans believe the war in Iraq is making it harder for the United States to deal with North Korea.
And the media continue to puzzle over why a personally popular president cannot move his agenda.
October 16th, 2006 at 4:46 pmSpeaking of North Korea, why so many conflicting reports of whether the air samples contained radiation?
October 16th, 2006 at 4:48 pmWhat is this suppose to mean? S-T-A-Y-T-H-E-C-U-R-S-E people, otherwise say hello to higher gas prices, tax increases, stalled economy etc…
October 16th, 2006 at 4:51 pmPolitical Theory 101: What happens when the population’s disapproval rating soars past the 66% needed by Congress to impeach?
In a true Democracy I’d say there’d be a good chance of impeachment.
In a fascist oligarchy I’d say something between diddly and squat.
Let’s watch and see…
October 16th, 2006 at 4:54 pmMore than 70 percent of Americans believe the war in Iraq is making it harder for the United States to deal with North Korea.
In other news, 3 out of 10 people are found to be devoid of common sense.

Hmmmm….
October 16th, 2006 at 4:59 pmWhat was Nixon’s low? I always forget this.
October 16th, 2006 at 4:59 pmGREAT NUMBERS…..if 36% yea, 61% nay…that leaves only 3% undecided (read: influenced by election ads). Less “unsures”, the better, for progressive candidates.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:01 pmThat disapproval rating really puts Chimpy’s eternal smile into perspective doesn’t it. He smiles and chuckles…..because he is insane and a very very very bad man. That smile is very telling……it is his version of giving the finger to the American people—regardless of ….anything that happens in the real worlk or the harm he causes. I can’t wait until he can no longer pull it off and comes unglued in public

Glad folks are finally catching on. Better late than never. Of course I can say that only because I wasn’t one of the folks killed or maimed in Iraq.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:06 pmI think the President ought to put on his Yale, Male Cheerleader outfit and do some cheers on TV to get us “back in the game”. You know, like the one’s he used to do when all of the other kids his age were in Vietnam. Well , except for Dick Cheney, he was at home too, but I just can’t see him in a cheerleader outfit..although, with all of the queers being outed in the GOP there might be a chance…Nah, he’s way to Rob Halford. Just a thought.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:10 pmIt was that spittle-flecked press conference last week. Everytime he’s on TV now people go “yikes!” and his numbers drop.
And dlet, I think Nixon hit a low of 27%, but I could be wrong. Also remember reading somewhere that Truman dropped under 30% briefly.

I like to answer them with another rhetorical question.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:15 pmThis is a good thing for Bush. It shows how the Republicans are winning the true war — the one for the minds of the Americans. Just wait ’til November when the Republicans win every seat in the House and Senate. You just wait. Mark my words, you darn kids. And get off my lawn!
(Somehow, I think Exley would want someone to say this.)
October 16th, 2006 at 5:17 pmAt what point will GWB come unglued? An excellent question. I don’t know, but I would like it to be before 2009.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:17 pmThere’s always a new low. Like when Mr. Foley and some of the other guys would have us pages play spin the bottle. He always had easy dares, but when the Bush brothers and their drunken, coke crazed evangelist buddies would show up, or God forbid Mr. Cheney would sneak in, then it got rough…real bad. I used to think it couldn’t get worse..these guys always proved me wrong.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:19 pmIf I were Bush, I’d be very worried. He’s got two more years of his administration if he doesn’t get impeached. Kennedy and Regan were popular during their administrations and Kennedy was killed and Regan was almost killed. It only takes one nut with a gun to say “I don’t care if I die.” If Bush wants home-grown terrorists, all he has to do is keep doing what he’s doing.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:19 pmHe’s looked unglued to me for quite a while now.

October 16th, 2006 at 5:24 pmNot a “surprise“, but definitely timely in light of pedo-Foley and the impending elections. Creepy.

I read them; these people are obviously crazy… I was fighting with myself to not post something demeaning to them. Oh well some idiots never change…
October 16th, 2006 at 5:26 pm64 percent disapprove of Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq.
There is that stubborn 30-something percent again, die-hard supporters of everything Bush. I wonder if these Bush personality cult followers were abused as children; how else to explain their infatuation with an authoritarian father figure?
70 percent of women and 58 percent of men now oppose the war in Iraq
More men with authority issues. Women obviously have nothing to prove or to compensate for -unlike their chest-thumping male counterparts. Maybe more women need to be elected to infuse some sense in American foreign policy?
October 16th, 2006 at 5:26 pmWhen this big nightmare finally blows over. That completely crazy 30% of the public cannot be forgotton. They are somewhat responsible for this nightmare. They cannot mix back into the woodwork. I propose we use all the new domestic detention centers, and lock up these wacks. Its ironic punishment, isn’t it.
(The above is satire and intended or entertainment purposes only, any factual occurrances with fictional characters is purly coincindental)
October 16th, 2006 at 5:30 pmMaybe more women need to be elected to infuse some sense in American foreign policy?

October 16th, 2006 at 5:31 pmAh, the “zero factor’ it’s fianlly come to the surface that no one’s commited to making the commitment. Last I heard, in order to whip up sympathy for the “President” they were going to plant a sniper rifle in Cindy Sheehan’s car and run out a story about how she had trained with the taliban in Pakistan to take out Mr. Evil. They couldn’t find anyone with the cajones big enough to get near someone who had actually made any sacrifices. Seems they get all weak in the knees about the “genuine articles”. So , they just decided to make peace with the fact that it was more fun, in fact it was actually meaner, to watch junior make an absloute tit out of himself than make him a martyr.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:33 pmYeah, Gregor, compensation seems to be a big factor with some men.

Anyone who compares data between a country’s treatment of women, and their statistics cannot miss the fact that in every case, countries who treat their women as equals to men have been standards of living than those who do not.
While no place is perfect, countries with Equal Rights like Sweden, Canada, Germany, Spain and Norway have much better quality of life than countries that treat their women like second class citizens - like China, The Sudan, Colombia, and Cambodia.
The U.S. is an equal rights amendment, and a cultural adjustment away from fixing much of what is wrong with our nation.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:39 pmGregor excellant post
When will the Bushies leave America? God damn it, it is their fault nothings getting done in this country. Even Bush Sr. thinks his son is a loon…

October 16th, 2006 at 5:44 pmIt is toooo precious reading the giddy posts of progs!! Let me indulge your political fan - tasms with why I would not be heartbroken should the Dems take the House:
a.) Errant Repubs would be forced to take a look and see that the base is sick of their spending like “drunken Democrats”. Most voters, regardless of Party, HATE “pork-barrel spending” - unless they’re union-members who love Big Dig waste projects or “Bridges to Somewhere”….eventually.
b.) If conservatives maintain their slight margin in the Senate , they can provide a layer of protection to the wallets of “average” Americans.
c.) The dual display of “social justice” policy in action and progressive tax burdens will make allow gainfully employed Americans the opportunity to review progressive fiscal policy. (MY FAVOURITE Harry Reid-ism of the past week?? Harry’s inability to define “middle class” in respect to the tax increases which won’t affect that nebulous class of people….. And you thought Bush was stupid????? Too precious….
P.S. I was looking up the Dems plat form concerning National Security and Border Issues, Domestic Social Issues, etc. and the pages were woefully blank - - plenty of Bush-bashing, but no possible solutions offered….Silly me - I gave too much credit where none is due….
October 16th, 2006 at 5:47 pmUnbelievable lol

I am always stumped when I try to explain myself that 30-odd% who stand behind the Great (mis)Leader no matter what. That is an awful lot of people in a horrible state of denial.
What would it take for them to stop supporting the failed policies of the Bush (mis)administration?
Then again, even Nixon had supporters after his resignation…. ::sigh::
October 16th, 2006 at 5:53 pmMighty Aphrodite I slightly agree
Dems are not the best when it comes to spending, but neither are Republicans. That is why we have such a huge deficit. I belong to C.A.G.W. and am completly against the stupid spending that dems and republicans do (Pork Barrel, Anti-Drug Ads, etc.) However your labeling of Liberals being the problem is actually untrue. In fact one of the most respected politicians of C.A.G.W. is RUSS FEINGOLD.

I think it also makes sense. That when you give respect, you get it in return - and that the culture will flourish out of that respect. And conversely, that a culture based on disrespect will be disrespectful…
There’s a teacher at my school who the students detest. He expects them to worship him (he’s a seriously religious person who quotes the Bible as if it is fact and is pissed off that he can’t preach in the classroom). In his patriarchal perspective, he demands that as an authortarian man, that children should obey him or suffer his wrath. He gives them not one ounce of respect or responsibility in his classroom, and in return, they go out of their way to make his classroom life as miserable as he makes theirs. I think the analogy is the same for countries that treat woman in the same vein, or worse…
October 16th, 2006 at 6:05 pmThe worse it gets for the constitution rapists the more structured mighty’s posts become…
October 16th, 2006 at 6:06 pmYou’re a whore, mighty. There’s still a little time left before your masters cut and run if you want to go serve your country in Iraq…

Having been to Sweden on several occasions, I was struck by several things:
a.) the people seem very nice.
Your OPINION. When I wa sthere, there was a political protest that turned very ugly and peope began to fight. Police with tear gas and attack dogs had to show up to control the crowd. Come on, they did have Vikings as ancestors…
b.) the food and people are VERY bland.
Your OPINION. I had several very intellectual conversations with people there, but NEVER with you. And no one made up silly puerile names for other people to mask their inferiority issues like you do.
c.) the uniformity of the houses was shocking. Individuality did not appear to be valued.
Your OPINION. Scandinavian design is and has been very hot and trendy for a number of years. Unlike the California suburban sprawl painted in community required shades of beige.
I hope this helps you understand

As I said, Mighty Aphrodite has mastered the art of non-sequiturs and logical fallacies. Put it all in a bowl, mix generously with ignorance, let it rest, and you get a comment like the one above.
It is known that Scandinavian countries do not have a very diverse cuisine -but that is a consequence of latitude and not of political system. Compare it with Chinese cuisine, one of the richest and most diverse cuisines in the world. Or with French cuisine (don’t forget that wingnuts call France a “socialist country”), also one of the richest in the world.
So, where is your cuisine-political system link now, Mighty? And what does that have to do with living standards?

I have no respect issues from my students. In fact, the reason I know about their disdain for the teacher I mentioned is that they make excuses to leave his class to come to mine - including students who are not in any of my classes. They like my class because I make it interesting and because I respect them in the first place - a very LIBERAL trait.
October 16th, 2006 at 6:48 pmmighty aphrodite,
Herr Gud!
What is wrong with you? You want to be a foul mouthed fool and blow your smoke about Americans, fine. I really don’t care because you all are about to sink into the depths of hell anyway. Deservedly so, by the way. Unless there is a sea change like everyone here hopes but your ilk is fighting tooth and nail against.
But now you want to slight the Swedes because, why, you think that they are an easy target? You’re an idiot.
So they don’t have a McDonalds on every corner and you think that gives you license to insult their cuisine. They are also not fat like Americans either. Ponder that while you are choking down your supersized McSaturated burger with cheese and a heaping dose of cardio-clogging fries.
Then you wonder why so many of their houses look alike. Why, because they are not brand new Chia burbs like you Americans love to stuff yourselves into? You do realize that their history dates back to the Vikings right? You know, some 1,800 or so years ago. They didn’t have stucco back then moron. The average Swedish home contains furniture that is older than the US. But even that simple fact eludes you.
And then you have the audacity to criticize their elegant designs as being “minimalistâ€. The only thing minimal I see is your intelligence. So minimal, in fact, I don’t even think that it can be measured on a quantum scale.
Complain all you want about Americans, most of it is deserved in some form or fashion. But when you start insulting the rest of the world because it is not the gluttonous den of murderous malcontents that the US has become, well you need to back way off. Remove the post from your eye before you offer your help to remove the splinter from others.
May peace be with us all.

You are trolling right? Or else, be ashamed but quietly then please so as not to annoy any grown-ups.

Your damn right. Somebody needs to restore and keep the moral compass in this country. Republicans are the closest thing we have to a vehicle that will make this happen. At the present point in history, the United States is very much like Rome when she was at the height of her power. Like Rome, noone can defeat us, militarily, or economically. The USA can only fall by rotting from within, which is how Rome eventually fell. This country cannot allow morally bankraupt people to come to power, ie the Democrats and all they stand for. If you define establishing and keeping the moral standards to be “shoving ideals down your throat”, then so be it.

See CW, it’s easy to throw out absolute statements. And I can even fairly easily seem to substantiate them. But, anyone with a modicum of intelligence knows that such absolutisms aren’t logically possible.
So all that you’ve been able to prove is that you don’t maintain even the most modest level of intelligence.
Good luck with that.

October 16th, 2006 at 7:28 pmCulture Warrior, I’m guessing that come November 8 you’re going to be down on your knees talking to yourself. That’s what your people do when faced with a challenge, right?
And when you’re having that conversation, ask God, errrrr, yourself, why it is that the people you think are there to guard “moral values” have been taking bribes, covering up for sexual predators, lying to start an illegal war and working to protect a system of forced sex labor and forced abortions in the Northern Marianas.

You mean that it was secured by a largely mercenary army, as the imperial scheme by this time had decimated the farmer/soldier basis that had led to their successes?
Or that the “rule of law” was so weighted towards the rich landowners at this point that there were riots by the poor of Rome?

I’ve watched these people post on Repub sites. They will not refute anything. Liberals post arguements of well known ideas you can find out in encyclopedias, or have some minor understanding of the values of conservatives. And they will not refute anything. Just spitting and hissing from the fevered Psychopathics: “Your wrong FOOL!, why don’t you go….”

That means we have 30% of the population who think reality itself is a lie and they are all right! This is Psychopathy.
And Republicans have no idea of the political ideology they follow! They are accusing the left of wanting power, control, they have no idea that conservatism thinking has been the cause behind things like slavery. If they where educated they would find out they were on the wrong side!strong> Too many times I have heard from Republicans: “I want you to stop controlling my life!”
…what the hell are they thinking, Conservative thinking is the political agenda that wants control over your body when it comes to drugs, prositution, abortion, gay marrige, scientific research i.e. stemcells, gambling,

Here is the post:
WE ARE CONTARDS AND THIS IS OUR SONG
It’s the liberals. It’s the ACLU. It’s Clinton. It’s Monica. It’s the “climate of permissivenessâ€. It’s France. It’s the liberal media. It’s Clinton’s p*nis. It’s Hillary. It’s Gov. Dean. We never could have known they’d fly planes into buildings. “No actionable intelligenceâ€. They didn’t tell us to do anything. O’Neill’s lying. Clarke’s lying. General Shinseki’s lying. The Union of Concerned Scientists is lying. Our own weapons inspector David Kay’s lying. Wilson’s lying. John Dean’s lying. Newsweek lied! CBS lied! Everyone’s lying but us. We had to lie. We never lied.
Plame outed herself. Her husband outed her. The liberals outed her. No one outed her, since everyone already knew her covert identity. Rove had nothing to do with it. No comment. Lib’ral, lib’ral, lib’ral.
It’s the libs trying to pull Schiavo’s feeding tube. It doesn’t matter that DeLay pulled his own dad’s feeding tube. “Culture of lifeâ€. It’s Janet Jackson’s boobs; it’s the Statue of Justice’s boobs. Reading the news might cloud my judgement. It’s the “decade our government…blinded itself to our enemiesâ€. It’s the homosexuals wanting to marry. “Restore honor and dignity to the White Houseâ€. A decision to go to war wasn’t a decision to go to war. “No actionable intelligenceâ€. It’s the pledge of allegiance. They’re taking God out of America. Osama didn’t tell us when, how, where, and by what means he’d attack, and he didn’t leave a forwarding address. The 9/11 panel is biased against us. Saddam = Al Qaida. Saddam = Al Qaida.
Chalabi’s an honorable man and I believe everything he says about WMDs. Chalabi’s a crook and he passed secrets to Iran. Chalabi’s the liberals’ fault because they didn’t shoot us when we started using his “intelligenceâ€. Chalabi? I don’t know any ‘Chalabi’!
It’s just a few dead-enders. They’ll be gone when we capture Saddam. They’ll be gone when we capture Saddam’s sons. They’ll be gone when we hand over “sovereigntyâ€. They’ll be gone when Iraq has elections. They’ll be gone in 12 years. They’ll never be gone.
We fight them in London so we don’t have to fight them, er, uh, well, can’t get fooled again!
Bolton didn’t lie! He just knowingly gave incorrect answers under oath.
Aw, so what’s another ISLAMIC STATE in the mideast? It’s not like Bush has made it a home for terrorists or anything!
No one could have anticipated that a category 5 hurricane aimed directly at New Orleans would have destroyed it! No one could have anticipated that they might need federal assistance quickly! Of course no one’s in charge of accepting the generous aid offered by other nations — isn’t that the mayor’s responsibility? Being a judging supervisor for the Arabian Horse Association is ample experience to head FEMA! It’s the mayor’s fault! It’s the governor’s fault! It’s Howard Dean’s fault! It’s CBS’s fault! It’s the Monica Crime! Ted Kennedy killed Mary Jo! Libtards killed Terry Schiavo! Wah! Wahhhhhhh!
It’s all these former staffers hawking their books. Money never corrupted anyone. “I’m a uniter, not a divider!†It’s the stem cells. It’s the feminazis, the intellectual elitists, and the ecoterrorists.
It’s Cthulhu. It’s the martians.
It’s anyone but Bush.

Time to re-read my Gibbon (who is looking at the evolution of the Roman empire in terms of decay instead of change, an error IMHO). But - where is the ‘height of the power’? For those who like their historical analogies piping hot, please note that the empire divided into Red and Blue, sorry, West and East and whereas the West was quickly resorbed by repeated invasions, the East continued for another 1000 years or so.
…until it was finally done in, not by the Turks but by the Venetians which tactically redirected the crusaders to sack Constantinople instead to take a trip to Jerusalem. Nicely done.
October 16th, 2006 at 8:04 pmBluedog49,
She’s referring to Gerry Studds (who died this weekend. Nice, MA)
He fell in love with a page in the early 70’s and had an affair.
The page also backed up the claim. I believe he was 17. He repented in front of the House, and to his constituents, and was re-elected.
Studds was openly gay.
Nothing at all like the slimey underhandedness (is that spelled right?) of Foley. No predatory actions.

Dear Bleu - I only point out the glaring hypocrisy of many on the LEFT - I despise corruption, perverts and liars….and too many Dems can be counted on to look the other way. Repubs kick our offenders and criminals to the curb - Dems re-elect theirs…. I’m beginning to think its a mental problem with many in your camp. How else can you defend the re-election of Senator Swimmer - I mean, Kennedy…
Dear Josh P - In my profession, I work with many criminals - I get a few Falwell backers - they’re the white collar crime guys and the Feds love sending them to Leavenworth and Terminal Island - such a dichotomy. On the other end of the spectrum, I have yet to be assigned to represent a gang banger with a Repub mom - I’m sure there are some…but there aren’t many….

First of all it was an extremly small poll.
The telephone poll of 1,012 adult Americans was conducted by Opinion Research Corporation Friday through Sunday.
Its sampling error was plus-or-minus 3 percentage points
I’m sure anyone here with a “working brain” also know the results can be a result of leading questions.
I’m glad polls like this bring joy to so many… I know good news is hard to come by so lets get excited about polls.

So MA thinks being an openly gay congressman is on the same moral plane as arming both sides of the Iran/Iraq war and selling weapons to the same terrorists who held Americans hostage - while lying to the American people about it with a straight face? And “attorney” MA thinks being an openly gay congressman equates to ignoring Federal statutes - (called “breaking the law”), to fund a brutal Central American insurgency that killed priests, nuns, and those who refused to be recruited?
That’s sure a mighty “big tent” you’ve got there!
