Bush: Iraq War Critics ‘Propagandize,’ Engage In ‘Illogical Behavior’

Yesterday Fox News host Bill O’Reilly asked President Bush whether the “anti-Bush press” is responsible for the American public turning against the war in Iraq. Bush agreed with O’Reilly, stating that he’s “disappointed that people would propagandize to that effect because the stakes are too high for that kind of illogical behavior.” Watch it:

[flv http://video.thinkprogress.org/2006/10/bushmediafox.320.240.flv]

Sixty-four percent of the American public now disapproves of Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq. These people are not “illogical” or victims of a propaganda campaign, but are responding to the facts.

Digg It!

Full transcript below:

O’REILLY: Is one of the reasons they’ve turned against the war in Iraq is that the anti-Bush press pounds day in and day out in newspapers, on the network news, in books like Bob Woodward’s, that you don’t know what you’re doing there. You have no have a strategy. You don’t listen to dissent. You’ve got this thing in your mind and you’re stubborn and you just can’t win it.

BUSH: Well, I’m disappointed that people would propagandize to that effect because the stakes are too high for that kind of illogical behavior. We have got a plan — first of all a stated goal.

  1. Roger Says:

Why doesn't O'Reilly just perform the interview with knee pads? It's clear he's going to need them.

  2. Hardy+Haberman Says:

This interview is just another puff piece by the GOP and should be ignored as "propaganda". The very idea that Bill O'Rielly would do an "in-depth" interview is rediculous. He is a puppet just like Bush.

  3. tom+baker Says:

I flipped past this on TV - thought is was a rerun of "Dumb and Dumber", so I kept flipping - doesn't look like I missed missed much.

  6. dlet Says:

I wonder if the MSM will be talking about how his socks stayed up.

  7. RealScientist Says:

Bush accuses others of propaganda? Sorry to sound like a broken record, but there it is again: a Republican projecting. Projection is absolutely essential to the psychological makeup of Republicans.

  8. Jay Randal Says:

LOL everything Bush does is "illogical behavior" > his brain got fried on cocaine and booze many years age! He must be impeached!

  13. s Says:

God people........when are people going to get really angry? This is not about dumb, dumber or anything so benign. Bush is closing in for the kill. Now that he's got his habeus corpus vaccine, he can being to frame more clearly how we are the propagandists...not him. He and RoveCo are going to try to now harden and crystalize the division of the American people...demonize anyone who is against them....and then of course..now..they have the "legal" means to just "disappear" us. If they can get enough of the right wing Americans to agree that many of their fellow citizens are "illogical" "With the terrorists" etc. just because we criticize the chimporer, it will be so much easier for them to fill those detention camps here at home....with US. We had better wake up and FAST

  14. Really Says:

"You don’t know what you’re doing there" is more than an accusation; it's a fact verified by the president and the generals he likes: They can't and won't keep track of their victims.

Here's his latest display of care and concern:

Q -- the 30,000, Mr. President? Do you stand by your figure, 30,000?

THE PRESIDENT: You know, I stand by the figure. A lot of innocent people have lost their life -- 600,000, or whatever they guessed at, is just -- it's not credible. Thank you.

So little of reality is credible these days.

  15. Heterodoxy Says:

Eventually all corrupt dictatorships collapse, or are destroyed when they attack too many nations, like Hitler's regime when he attacked Russia > after Bush attacks Iran, and China gets involved, the end for the Bush regime will come > I hope we survive the dire times ahead!

You don't have a plan for North Korea.
You don't have a plan for the economy.

  26. Kelso Says:

Hearing these two talk about propagandizing and illogical behavior is ironic.

Who better to interview Bush than one of the most illogical Bush-butt-kissers to ever grace the airwaves of TV and radio.

  27. Anastasia Says:

Post # 13 by s is right. It's not just about Bush being dumb or crazy, he's a budding dictator who is capable of any number of things, including putting US citizens in camps, or starting an unprovoked war with Iran.

Right now the USS Eisenhower is steaming towards the Persian Gulf, "accompanied by the guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio, guided-missile destroyer USS Ramage, guided-missile destroyer USS Mason and the fast-attack submarine USS Newport News, is, as I write, making its way to the Straits of Hormuz off Iran. The ships will be in place to strike Iran by the end of the month."

As the British historian, Michael Carmichal puts it, we're slip sliding into "World War W." The internment camps, most likely will come next.

  33. barfly Says:

    Tough questions?

I've seen Mr. Green-jeans ask tougher questions of Captain Kangaroo.

  34. DSouth Says:

This is sad. You know what's more sad is that they are going to keep control of both houses. With the way the Grand Ol Pervs under Tom Delay rigged all the districts so they can keep their thugs in office. They may lose some seats but they are really protected. The representation is simply not there in the districts.. I have litttle faith in the system of voting. I'm sure in close races you'll see "voting irregularities".The way these people are trying to turn this country into a theocracy we should all be worried and take notice. They are controlling the courts and slowly the media. They don't give a damn about the poor even with the so calld faith based initiatives they wil not follow up on. We are in trouble because our country doesn't listen to facts. I say we are in the Jerry Springer age. You know a candidate is better the party with more money makes more commercials that are lies and people jump on the bandwagon because that person won the battle of the name calling.Just like cheer for Jerry Springer host. The facts just go out the window and the rethugs as we know are good at getting around facts and leading their fklock blindly into a blaze of glory. Yes I hope we win one house at least but the way they have gerrymandered the districts they have all but secured control of this country for years to come and we will all pay for it whether we voted for them our not.

  35. Idiotic Says:

Bush and his serfs are definitions of illogical and irrational behavior ...

  36. Mr. Evil Says:

President Bush saying that most Americans (who are obviously smarter than he is) are "illogical" is another in a long and ever increasing list of Bushlexias that we have to endure from this boob. That's like wondering if a certain Pit Bull dog is bad just because he has attacked 23 humans in the past week.

If something isn't the truth it simply isn't the truth. George Bush (and Bill O'Reilly for that matter) believe they can spin whatever they want people to believe as the truth and then present as truth. That's illogical. Lies are not the truth except for the fact that they are lies.

  37. VP Cheney Says:

Ignoring facts has lead Bush to be the worst president in America's history and he is in absolute denial of his own incompetence. A typical village idiot.

  38. Goebbels Says:

The press is really the only thing that stands in Bush's way to acquring absolute power and becoming just like Putin in Russia. Unfortunately, there are members of the press like Bill who will gladly help him to it in order to curry favor.

  39. Bluedog49 Says:

O'Reilly in 2003: "Look, if it turns out that there are no WMD's, I won't support the administration anymore."

In 2006: "You can't be confrontational with the president."

Why do O'Reilly fans have so little self-respect that they allow this man to lie in their faces over and over and love him for it?

#22 Tell us the plan, George.

    Here it is:

    THE REPUBLICAN PLAN FOR IRAQ

    PLAN A:
Win '06 elections and stay in power.
Continue installing puppet gov't in Iraq and skimming oil profits while cronies making billions in gov't contracts.
Continue removing rights at home so all dissenters can be "confined".

    PLAN B:
    Repub's lose House or Senate.

Continue installing puppet gov't in Iraq and skimming oil profits while cronies making billions in gov't contracts.
Continue removing rights at home so all dissenters can be "confined".
Any non-progress is blamed on those liberal partisan democrats not cooperating.
Any action to remove troops from Iraq will be blamed on Democrats as interfering with _The_Plan_ and thus absolving Repub's from *ANY* responsibility in the failed war/police action/occupation/freedom fight. This WILL BE thrown back in the face of any democrat from here on. DEMOCRATS CUT AND RUN SO WE LOST THE WAR will be the cry forever heard from the Repub's.

This will work well for them in the next elections.

    Bassturd,

Jane is one of the gatekeepers here everyday spewing the leftist filth as truth. Doesn't suprise me she want you the F out. She can't handle the truth and resorts to trying to kick ya out when agitated.

It wouldn't suprise me if she was a professor from Boulder, Colorado or maybe Columbia University, and was trying to indoctrinate our youth with her garbage. She seems educated unough, just delusional and misguided. Prop too many drugs in her youth?

Anyway, keep up the fight. By the way, is your moniker a fishing reference or maybe guitar related? Just wondering.

  61. pete Says:

is there any way that bush can remain in power beyond his next 2 years. perhaps a military emergency, a nuclear crisis, i would not be suprised if bush somehow manages to usurp the laws of the land and name himself "dictator for life".

  62. JaneESchneider Says:

You know, TroothFairy, I don't actually spew. In fact, except for a few responses to trash here and there, I'm not one of the ones to post a long, informational comment (what you would refer to as "spewing leftist filth." Usually my comments are brief, and occasionally attempt to be humorous. I am definitely not a gatekeeper, as there are many days when I don't even get a chance to read the threads, let alone comment. I just happen to have gotten in a few here and there in the last few days.

So I think that you're exaggerating my position here, but, thanks for the recognition. And you're totally wrong about my background, BTW.

As for my response to AssTurd? What did he (?) or you expect, posting antagonistic crap like that?

    "What's the hold up?"

"Terrorists have kidnapped Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Jesse
Jackson, Al Sharpton and John Kerry.
They are asking for a $10 million ransom. Otherwise, they are going
to douse them with gasoline and set them on fire."

"We are going from car to car, taking up a collection."

  76. NoMoreRepublicanTrash Says:

And Bush and O'Reilly and Fox News would know all about propaganda, wouldn't they. As far as the Republican Trash posting here today goes, they're all the types who would have proudly served Adolph Hitler. Hard to believe such sheep still exist today, yet they do. They are ruled by bigotry and hate. Hence, Bush is a kindred spirit to them, and in the most extreme cases, to them Bush is a god. Bush and his followers will suffer the same fate at Hitler and his. It's happening right now. No doubt, Bush, Cheney, et al. will be fleeing to South America (as Hitler's men did) in order to avoid the certainty of the death penalty they'll face here in the United States when they are tried for their war crimes and crimes against humanity.

  77. cognitorex Says:

Plans of Democratic Party Dominate Iraq Strategy

When the GOP blows its false trumpet that the Dems have no plans for Iraq I suggest they first bite down on the following sentence.

"Redeployment" is now the leading strategy for Iraq with a bipartisan world-wide cast coming on board.

Jack Murtha, a Democrat, at some personal political risk announced that "our presence in Iraq has become the cause, not the cure, for much of the violence." This has now been openly confirmed by bipartisan leaders, including most forcefully by Britain’s Army Chief of Staff.

Murtha's wisdom is now a major policy plank for an Iraq solution.

Murtha, a Democrat, was the first to call for implementation of a plan to "redeploy." This, a Democratic plan, is becoming the majority opinion strategy for Iraq.

When the GOP and Joe Lieberman attempt to paint Democrats as weak on terror and having no plans for Iraq solutions it only serves as a continuing illustration of their bankrupt and inept foreign policy.

"Stay the Course" has put our Troops in harm's way. "Stay the Course" has hamstrung our now openly angry and frustrated Military leadership. "Stay the Course" has now been openly exposed for what it is, a disingenuous mantra employed by the GOP for political gain.

Democrats have changed the debate and the strategy for Iraq.

Arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics…Even if you win, you’re still a retard!!

    Get a clue.

    Bassturd out!!!!

    Comment by Bassturd — October 17, 2006 @ 1:11 pm

If you expected a reasonable argument from anyone, you blew it right there. Sorry, but opening comments like that disqualify you from reasoned debate. So don't suddenly start acting as though you had been civilly debating a point and I went off on you, you're a troll who simply wanted to stir things up. So, once again (but I'll leave out the profanity since it so offends you) GET OUT!

  82. nym@alias.net Says:

maybe, although america care's about republican pedophilia on the internet.

  83. RUCerious Says:

  85. Bassturd Says:

    GET OUT!

    Make me!!!!!

  86. bs Says:

o' and adding to post 90

if we pay the salaries of the politicians with our hard, earned money than why can't we count them as dependents? let's talk about it

  87. bs Says:

and let's talk about the nazi ideology of this admin. and stripping away our freedoms, privacy for one.

  88. The+TroothFairy Says:

RUC tries to be clever, but is only parroting the lefts Champion, Chavez, with devil reference. Keep trying.

And by the way, you couldn't slap mustard on a ham sandwich, much less a jakanape down!

  89. bs Says:

what happened to my post. it was up and then deleted why. did i scare someone with the truth.

  90. RUCerious Says:

Hey spoofairy, I thought you said you were leaving?
by the by, I didn't refer to Chavez, I just said, Go with the Devil. That would be fishdroppings.
BTW. The ham on rye with mustard and dill pickle was a delicious luncheon repast.

  91. bs Says:

sorry for posting twice tpers. at first they didn't want to post it so i tried again.

  92. The+TroothFairy Says:

    Hey BS,

More off your tax money is paying for all the illegals that sneak across our southern border and end up in our education system, hospitals and jails. You should want them as you dependents too.

And by the way, the Iranian President was actually "conected" to the Nazi's, so when you talk about truth, know what the h@$$ you are talking about! The true enemy is waiting at your doorstep, waiting for you to fall asleep. Bush is saving your sorry life!

  93. RUCerious Says:

    Oh, and spoofairy,
    Did you mean: jackanape
It would help to spell your insults correctly. Otherwise we might think, as many do, that you are an ignoramus.

  94. The+TroothFairy Says:

I didn't say you refered to him (another leftist twist on my statement), I said you were "parroting him. LOL.

  95. Unholy+Moses Says:

If it were up to them we’d have a government full of people who talk alot yet do nothing except try to cover up their own underhanded dealings.

Gee, that's funny ... that's EXACTLY the government we have now, and it's all ran by Republicans.

If you projected any more, you'd be a PowerPoint presentation.

  96. RUCerious Says:

Oh, parroting, that's very different. When exactly did Mr. Chavez say Go with the Devil? Citation, please. Ignoramus.

  97. nym@alias.net Says:

The true enemy is waiting at your doorstep, waiting for you to fall asleep.

yes, yes, america knows that. now tell us, why else are republicans losing the elections?

  98. The+TroothFairy Says:

I am forever amazed at the lefts ability to insert words or thought where they were not. Hmmmmm

  99. Bassturd Says:

Now we get grammer lessons......geeez... Exactly what I would expect from you RUC. Insults and spelling corrections... Is that all you've got???

  100. big+papa Says:

    TroothFairy

...and your parents are related how?

...at least illegals are REAL human beings, and Chavez and Ahmadinejad...

    ...but you...

    ...are FAAARRR out...

  101. Unholy+Moses Says:

I am forever amazed at the lefts ability to insert words or thought where they were not. Hmmmmm

What color is the sky in the world you live in?

Seriously ... not a single thing you've posted on this thread has:

a.) any bearing on the topic.
    b.) any basis in reality.

Combine those with the fact that you do the exact same thing you accuse others of doing, and it all adds up to someone who is either clinically insane or certifiably retarded.

    So which is it?

  102. RUCerious Says:

    spoofairy
    Chavez actually said
"The devil came here yesterday," Chavez said, referring to Mr. Bush's address on Tuesday and making the sign of the cross. "He came here talking as if he were the owner of the world."

Do you disagree with his assessment of Bush, that he talks as if he were the owner of the world?

I said, and I quote, "Vaya con diablo - spoofairy"

Please connect the dots and enlighten us all as to how what I said is "parroting" Chavez.

Squawk, spoofairy is an ignoramus, spoofairy is an ignoramus, now that's parroting.

  103. bs Says:

    i do and everyone should

And by the way, the Iranian President was actually “conected” to the Nazi’s

and the bush family(since prescott) to along with wolfy, rummy.

The true enemy is waiting at your doorstep, waiting for you to fall asleep

which is the irs, bush criminal regime, congressman

Bush is saving your sorry life!

so grown of lyou but very typical to lash out personally when you can not back up anything. typical nazi way. you are the one that fell for the weapons of mass fear. when you sypathize with a known nazi who has participated in bohemian grove, skull and bones there isn't much room for you to speak truth. and i'll say this when bushwhack brings back habeus corpus, constitution. stays out of my personal business, and stops martial law, imminent domain, overspending(pork) and secures the borders and the nuke sites then maybe. until then he ain't savin shit but his own ass and that is getting hard.

  104. Bassturd Says:

yes, yes, america knows that. now tell us, why else are republicans losing the elections?

    Bassturd out!

  105. Loonie Says:

Why must these war critics propagandificationalize??

  106. The+TroothFairy Says:

RUC, Chavez refered to Bush as the devil, you stated go with the devil. Correlation complete. Because I side with the Republicans and you do not, that makes me "with the devil", in Chavez and your remarks. Parroting has many forms, your just a little more subtle and clever than most lefty's when juxtaposing.

    Regrards,
    Ignoramus.

  107. RUCerious Says:

    Grammer lessons!
Looks like you need spelling lessons furst.
It never ceases to amaze me, how these morons come on here displaying their lack of education.
the post, by the way happens to be about
'Bush: Iraq War Critics ‘Propagandize,’ Engage In ‘Illogical Behavior’
    Let's see.
I think it is totally hypocritical of Bush to criticize the war critics by characterizing their dissent as propaganda. It is totally logical to point out the futility of the last three years of occupation.
Please argue with those points, if you can muster a dictionary to get you through the arduous task ahead of you.

  108. nym@alias.net Says:

i am forever amazed at the right's ability to lie and hide their corruption and child molestations.

oh yeah, line up the pages and break out the lube - the republicans want one last fling before america kicks the bums out!!!!!!!!

  109. bs Says:

why did you delete my post again tp. you can't handle the truth either. but you will allow the childish antics in here with the foul mouths. why don't ya put it back

  110. The+TroothFairy Says:

    Unholy Moses,

I leave my diagnosis to the experts. They tell me I'm doing better.

  111. Yikes Says:

Bassturd sounds alot like that moonbat hunter troll that was here recently claiming to want to have decent debate only to come across as something like South Park's Christmass Poo.

  112. Unholy+Moses Says:

Woo-Hoo!! Line up the pages and lube up the Internet tubes .. The Republicans are staying!!!!!!!

Wow ... not adding anything to the discussion sure is easy. No wonder the trolls do it (and it's why I give folks like Exley a pass most -- but not all -- of the time).

The facts are this: Bush has used nothing but propoganda to sell his war. Just look at the catchphrases he uses over and over and over again.

The problem is that a clear majority of the American people aren't buying it anymore. Not because they are illogical, but because the facts simply don't support Bush's rhetoric.

And if any troll can prove me wrong on that, try it. I dare you ...

My doctor is a Democrat, so lying must come natural!

You really should change your name to Panasonic P1SDU. It'd be more fitting.

  121. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags Says:

That's interesting... Bush never uses propaganda. He's mister truthman, right? (sarc)

  122. JaneESchneider Says:

Bassturd, for the last time: you did NOT bring any debate to the table in the first place, so our responses to you had nothing to do with you "choosing to hold different beliefs". You NEVER articulated any beliefs except that “You people are friggin nuts!!" To "parrot" you, typical rightwingnut comment! So, you do not have a leg to stand on in any further comments, and do not deserve any consideration now that you're pretending to actually debate.

Typical right wing bigotry. Are you afraid of the people that compete in the special olympics? This is the first post from bassturd. Now he comes up with this:

"I am more than capable of being articulate and clever when the company I am speaking to justifies it…You do not rate that type of response from me."

Excuse me!?!? What the hell kind of person are you? You believe that regular posters here expect you to be articulate and clever after dissing people who compete in the special olympics? You need help.

  129. JaneESchneider Says:

Chimpeach, the Trooth Fairy sounds an awful lot like yesterday's troll du jour, Moonbat Hater, who lied about it being his "first time" on this site, then admitted towards the end that he was just here to stir up trouble.

Not that it proves anything, but it's not beneath the righties to lie about something like that. Where specifically "in the Gulf War"?

And what is your problem anyway? You think Bush is the greatest thing since sliced bread and Rumsfeld is a military genius? Did you learn nothing in your alleged time in the service?

    Bassturd out!!!

What a clever signature, fitting of someone who considers himself a turd.

  131. chimpeach Says:

You never can tell about them, Jane. It just seems like there's an inordinate number of new trolls suddenly flocking to ThinkProgress. It seems a little more like a campaign than just a bunch of bloggers suddenly discovering this site.

The desperation is becoming evident, too. No matter how big a smiley face Bush and Rove try to paint on their election chances, the rank and file are starting to sense defeat.

Your part is full of income falsifying, bribe taking, infidelty, aldulterers, statutory rapists and those who hate all that have differing opinion. What do you have to be proud of? And to top it off, I'm suprised you would choose to use the term "good Lord" as isn't your party that wants nothing to do with religion?

    Listen monkeyfruit,

If you're so clever look it up on the internet..I do not have to explain myself to you or anyone else....As far as me worshipping Bush and Rumsfeld, your sadly mistaken..I just think they are a better alternative than Kerry or Hillary or any other leftist.

  135. yangho Says:

  136. Bassturd Says:

    RUC,

  138. The+TroothFairy Says:

    Jane,

Just looked through yesterday's posts and found the blogger that you are comparing me to. It appears I have the same political affiliation as MoonbatHunter but sorry, not the same person. It also stated that you accused the same MoonbatHunter of being someone who previously posted as MoonbatPatrol. I sense a pattern here. You like to accuse those with differing opinions of being the same person. That is also where I saw MG post "adios moonbats". Am I him too? Geez.

I never said I have not been to this site. I can tell you however that I have not posted here before today. I've silently viewed from the fence until today. It would be convenient for you if I was all these same people as then it would be easy for you to dismiss my posts. But alas, it appears we are many.

  139. Unholy+Moses Says:

  141. RUCerious Says:

No fishdroppings, it just seemed to me that your inability to articulate a position on anything indicated a possible diminished mental capacity that is a could be an indication of GWS.
Your first post, #41 mentioned that "Arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics…Even if you win, you’re still a retard!!"
But that is exactly what you are doing, so...
I'm glad you feel like playing "I just enjoy throwing rocks " with us here.
It keeps you off the streets where you might get hurt.

  142. Unholy+Moses Says:

Because my opinions differ from yours, I am sick?

Yes. Just like when our opinions differ from yours we're "nuts."

There is, however, on problem (at least for me). All you've done is state your opinion. No fact. Why is that?

Please show us any facts that display:

    1. The Bush and Co. have not propogated propaganda.
    2. That their policies are actually working.
    3. That their decisions have been logical.

I ask because, quite frankly, I know you can't do it. Well, not without lying in order to do so.

  143. The+TroothFairy Says:

As far as what you do here, this is not a debating site. It is a place for leftwing wackos to post their mindless accusations and implausible theories of what they think the right is about to other leftwing wackos who share the same view.

You claim you would offer debate on issues if approached differently, but in all the times I have been here reading up on what the left thinks, I have never seen you offer intelligent debate to an opposing view. It ALWAYS turns to something just a bit more absurd and the attacks never seem to be far from the debate.

I choose not to debate you here, not because I can not hold my own with the facts to support my opinions, but because it is pointless to debate those incapable of sustaining the debate past a few points before becoming angry and violent with the rhetoric.

  144. JaneESchneider Says:

What a pile of trash. Can I take it that "part" means "party"? Wait, who's the party of lobbyists, land deals, pedophilia, etc., etc., etc. How many Republicans are under investigation, arrest, indictment, sentence, yadda-yadda? And, how many Democrats? I think you're sadly confused.

  145. The+TroothFairy Says:

Therefore, I choose the path of sarcasm in my posts. At least it seems to keep you all occupied with something other than the latest conspiracy theory de jour.

  146. Unholy+Moses Says:

I choose not to debate you here, not because I can not hold my own with the facts to support my opinions, but because it is pointless to debate those incapable of sustaining the debate past a few points before becoming angry and violent with the rhetoric.

Then your comment that you've visited this site for a while is either a lie, or you haven't actually read more than a few comment threads.

Is this a leftwing site? Yes.

But I've seen plenty of intelligent discussions on here from people of both sides. The common denominators, however, are:

    1. The rightwinger doesn't start by throwing around insults, only to whine about being insulted later on.
    2. The rightwinger actually provides links and facts, not just opinion.

Neither you nor Basturd have done either of these.

  147. Bassturd Says:

How many Republicans are under investigation, arrest, indictment, sentence, yadda-yadda? And, how many Democrats? I think you’re sadly confused.

    Jane,

How many democrats were under investigation during Clinton's term...A sh*tload...It's a game...the majority of politicians are crooks..that's a given..to actually say one is worse than the other is like catching two dogs in your garbage and only kicking the crap out of one of them because you don't like him...I never said I liked Bush or anyone else for that matter..I just chose the lesser of the two evils!

You and the monkeyfruit keep saying I like Bush, not me....

    Bassturd out!!

  148. leftcoast Says:

How terrifically sad and telling: the President of the United States, in order to look available to "journalists", must stoop to an interview with O'Reilly. An interview with Alex Trebec (sp) would be of greater import.

  149. The+TroothFairy Says:

Land deal, Harry Reid has just blamed his attorney, his accountant and those who handle his paperwork for "excuse me" making a million dollars in a LAND DEAL that he FORGOT to file in his ethics and income papers.

He gets a pass, right? Just a mistake. right.

Jane, you definately are a hypocrite!

Oh, and do not forget that he was just implicated in using his campaign donations and fund to give Christmas bonuses to his "Personal" doorman at his condo!!

Just another "mistake" from the leader of your party?

That is how you see it, I'M SURE OF IT !

  150. JaneESchneider Says:

#148: I really don't give a rat's ass who you are or if you have ever been here or whether you're even really the tooth fairy in disguise. You are here to put up strawman arguments and get people riled up, then accuse them of being argumentative, which was what you wanted point in the first place. And yes, we (I) fell for it. But now I know that you're just a sarcastic ahole who really isn't interested in arguing politics or human rights or the war, you're just interested in being a prick.

  151. The+TroothFairy Says:

Jane, start with that fact then!

  152. The+TroothFairy Says:

Answer # 153 then Jane! Reid gets a pass from you doesn't he?

  153. Yikes Says:

"Jane is one of the gatekeepers here everyday spewing the leftist filth as truth. Doesn’t suprise me she want you the F out. She can’t handle the truth and resorts to trying to kick ya out when agitated."

This was the toothfairy's first post. The second and third posts are jokes pokinig fun at some liberals. Later he/she says they haven't posted here before. Then this gem:

"I choose not to debate you here, not because I can not hold my own with the facts to support my opinions, but because it is pointless to debate those incapable of sustaining the debate past a few points before becoming angry and violent with the rhetoric."

So toothfairy hasn't tried to debate any single topic. Instead a couple of jokes, cracks at a couple of regular posters and then 'oh no I couldn't possibly debate with you angry violent lefty moonbats here'. Notice the 'here' part. Sure, toothfairy, we would come and debate you 'there' but we are banned in minutes.

You are more like a toothless fairy.

  154. yangho Says:

#151 I never said I liked Bush or anyone else for that matter..I just chose the lesser of the two evils!
WHy you only have 2 choices? Vote for angels not evils.

  155. The+TroothFairy Says:

Still waiting for you to tell me how Reid's predicament is so different than the one's you make accusation against the republicans.

    C'mon Jane.

Lets hear you argue Harry Reid out of his delima with an intelligent arguement.

  156. Yikes Says:

"That is how you see it, I’M SURE OF IT " From the person that earlier said this "

"I am forever amazed at the lefts ability to insert words or thought where they were not."

You are loosing a debate with yourself! LOL

  157. Bassturd Says:

    Moses,

I have not seen any facts from you as well...All any of you have done is state your personal opinions.

My initial comment got the desired effect that I was looking for...I found out real fast who the fanatical leftists were and they were very gracious to call me names so as to expose themselves. I think it's funny...I go on all sorts of blogs ut find this one to be the most volatile. Why is that...Are you all that passionate or are you all just angry about something??

  158. The+TroothFairy Says:

OK, Jane can not defend Reid, anyone else want to try?

  159. JaneESchneider Says:

NO ONE in government who breaks the law gets a pass from me! Democrat, Republican, Independent, Green, Marijuana Reform Party - any government representative who uses his position to break the law, or breaks the law in any way, should be ousted! There, you wanted an opinion on politics from me. So get your preconceived ideas out of your head (or ass). Yikes, defend # 153. Jane was so eager to throw out there that Republicans are the "Land Deal" politicians and the party under investigation.

  161. DallasNE Says:

For once I agree with Bush on something. Bush said he was “disappointed that people would propagandize to that effect because the stakes are too high for that kind of illogical behavior.”

Where we differ is that his own words defines his behavior to a tee rather than the other way around.

The other difference is that it is Bush himself that has the blood of 3,000 soldiers killed in Iraq. That and the 80-300 thousand Iraqi's killed. These numbers mirror what is going on in Darfar -- while Bush does nothing.

  162. The+TroothFairy Says:

After all the "give us facts" for a point to debate, this is what you post. You only posted this as you have no way of explaining how one of your own has done something in the same fashion as those on the right you accuse.

It's the easy way out to say say you can not respond as I am not worthy after those here berating me for saying what I said before about not being able to get a civil argument from you folks for more than a few minutes.

    LOL.

  165. Yikes Says:

TroothFairy, I have no knowledge of the "Land Deal" politicians or what Harry Reid's invovlement is so I will not 'defend' #153. If Harry Reid is guilty on unethical behaviour then by all means he deserves to be fined or jailed or both.

Can you defend Bush's removal of habeas corpeus? The Land Deal thing is surely important if unethical behaviour is concerned but really, this new bill of Bush's completely flys in the face of the constitution. THAT is something that should be debated from here in blogland to MSM.

  166. JaneESchneider Says:

  167. Unholy+Moses Says:

Why is that…Are you all that passionate or are you all just angry about something??

    Yes, I am angry.

Angry that my country has been taken over by a bunch of idiots who don't know there is more than one kind of Muslim.

Angry that my country invaded another country that was no threat.

Angry that Halliburton has ripped off the American taxpayers to the tune of $1 BILLION and nothing has been done about it.

Angry that the religious right keeps telling others what they can do in their own bedrooms.

Angry that the GOP is convinced that keeping two consenting adults from marrying is the most important issue facing our country.

Angry that 45 million Americans don't have any health care.

Angry that our children are being taught how to pass a test, rather than receiving real-world knowledge.

Angry that my grandmother pays MORE for her perscriptions than she did before the Plan D(ebacle) was passed.

Angry that Congress spent 140 hours on the Clinton Christmas Card list in the 90s, yet spent fewer than 10 debating whether or not torture is okay a few weeks ago.

Angry that we even have to discuss whether or not torture is okay.

Angry that the President can issue signing statements saying he can do whatever the hell he wants, Congress and the courts be damned.

Angry that the GOP wants the judicial branch removed from our government.

Angry that we have a deficit my childrens' childrens' children will have to pay for.

Angry that Bush and Co. ignore thousands of scientists from all over the world on the issue of global warming.

Angry that the right accuses everyone of playing politics, when it's the only game the right knows how to play.

Angry that countless Republicans have been arrested, indicted, or convicted of countless crimes, yet some try to act as if the Dems are just as bad (they have their issues, but nowhere near what the GOP has).

I could keep going, but I think you get the point.

Oh, and I could also provide links to each and everyone of these, but you've already said you don't want to debate the issues, so why bother?

Would you then object to me labling the party of Reid as the "other" land deal party and call it a draw?

I will answer with a response on the Hastert after you answer my point with a counterpoint on Reid without a mention of any enamel problems I may or may not have in my mouth.

One of my own? My own what? I'm a registered Independent, which makes you wrong again in your personality profile of me. Regardless, if your point is that one should be blindly following and believing each and every one of the members of your party, and that one should hear or speak no evil of any of those members, WE ARE NOT SHEEP LIKE REPUBLICANS.

How do I explain Harry Reid? I don't! If what Republicans are saying about him is true (which I'm taking with a grain of salt), then Reid is just another greedy politician. On the other hand, why don't you tell us what Harry Reid did personally to increase the value of the land he bought. Dennis Hastert personally shepherded legislation through that ensured that a highway would be built adjacent to his property, thus increasing the value of the land. Do you have evidence that Reid did anything like that? This is according to AEI’s Norman Ornstein. http://www.tnr.com/user/nregi.mhtml?i=w061002&s=lillyornstein100606

Two people does not a corrupt party make. And, so far, that's all you guys got (Reid, maybe, and Jefferson, without a doubt).

But to call it a "draw" on corruption is too funny. Let's see here ...

Ney, Delay, Cunningham, Foley, Hastert, Frist, Scanlon, Abramoff, Weldon, Doolittle, Lester Crawford (FDA), Bob Beauprez (Co.), Tom Noe (Ohio) ...

Again, I could keep going, but I think you get the point. Someone mentioned choosing the GOP because they were the less of two evils.

Seems to me that someone should look up the word "evil" and rethink their position.

Hey, Yikes, another Mets fan, yay!

#175, you know, some of us are at work and not waiting with bated breath for your next utterance, then racing to respond! You never mentioned that people only had, what, 3 minutes to answer you before you start verbally tapping your foot? Get over yourself! Nor did I owe you any specifics about my feelings about anything. I said that anyone in government who uses their position to break the law should be ousted. How much more specific did I need to be? Was the proper answer "Yes, Harry Reid should be removed if he did what the Trooth Fairy said he did"? You know, it is rather laughable that you only have example for the Democrats--did you forget, whats-his-name, Jefferson, the one with the $90,000 in the freezer? Want my opinion? He should leave, too! Are you happy now?

And, since (as regulars here know), I don't have internet service at home, and I, too, have to go to the grocery store before settling down to watch the Mets, this is the last you'll hear from me tonight.

  181. The+TroothFairy Says:

Yikes, If you are refering to the bill signed today regarding the treatment of those captured in the war on terror, then I can answer quickly. I do not believe that those who we catch have the same rights as a US citizen in US courts. There are those who believe that these terrorist suspects should be given the same consideration as a US Citizen. I find that laughable because these same terrorists are trying to eliminate this same system of government and courts through destruction, death and annihiliation.

I beleive that the terrorist suspects should be interrogated for information that may lead to the saving of American lives. While I do not believe permanent physical harm should be done to them, methods less physical should be used.

You can not give these terrorist the same consideration you would give an American Citizen, with regards to habeas corpeus. They have no respect for such things and should not be afforded the same. They want all of us converted to their radical Islamic religion, and then murdered as punishment for our past sins. How do you afford someone like that the same consideration? I for one do not believe we can and survive all of this.

  182. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

    #185 Tooth Fairy,

I'll just say this one thing and then I have to leave to go watch the Mets with my wife. Just so you understand the problem many of us have, it's this: It appears that once you have been labeled an "enemy combatant", your right to go into court and say, "No, I'm not. They're wrong!" may very well have disappeared. You may get picked up and labeled as one by mistake. Did it ever occur to you that sometimes the government is wrong? Innocent people have been executed for crimes they didn't commit. Besides, if they legitimately have the right guy, what's wrong with giving him his day in court? Why should we automatically assume that anyone arrested is guilty?

You need not respond to me. I doubt that anything you have to say in support of your side would be either rational or accurate. You can waste your time if it makes you feel better. It won't matter to me. But do have a nice day.

    GO METS!

If you had any idea what the right has been pulling, you might be angry with them, too. Cunningham, DeLay, Abramoff, Safavian, Ney, Foley, and all the other resignations, indictments, convictions, etc. are just scratching the surface. There's still Burns, Harris, Pombo, Weldon, Doolittle, Hayworth, Goode, and on and on.

You may not think that Bush was planning to invade Iraq all along and that he was okay with using our troops, letting them get killed or maimed, for his own political purposes, but what if you found out he did? I served, too. I was in the Navy for six years. I served under Nixon, Ford, and Carter. Not one of them made me feel like my service was going to be taken for granted. None of them acted like the U.S. Armed Forces were there to use any time they wanted for anything they wanted to do. But, Bush and his cronies don't respect the troops and they don't respect their commitment. They use the troops like shit paper. And then they turn around and cut veterans' benefits.

I don't know how you can not be angry at them. I have to assume you just don't know what kind of crap they've been pulling.

  186. Paul Says:

Amanda, the article you posted was based on a question from Bill which asked whether the “anti-Bush press” is responsible for the American public turning against the war. So it basically is stating that the PRESS is responsible for the percentage of American public that disapproves of Bush's handling.

    Then your argument states:
Sixty-four percent of the American public now disapproves of Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq and said that these people are not “illogical” or victims of a propaganda campaign, but are responding to the facts.

First you change the subject.. Bill asked if the press is the reason why Americans are turning against the WAR in Iraq. Then you make it a question about how America approves/disapproves of Bush's handling.

Then you give one press article to try to back your claim up. The problem is that peoples perspectives are influenced by negative articles such as these, and no positive articles will ever be picked up by the slanted press as the original question and claim states. This bias will influence people in general to a negative opinion. If you keep criticizing your kids you will look at them negatively as will others.

Your response to the interview was weak.

  187. RUCerious Says:

    Paul -
Bill O asks the president if he thinks the press is responsible for turning the American people against the war, and Bush answers that he is disappointed that they would propagandize.

In the face of the polls that show the people of this country disagree with the way the president is handling the war, it is totally relevant to point out that it isn't the media that is at fault.
Should they report that no troops were killed today?
Should they roll over and ask the administration how many troops should they report were killed today.
You completely miss the important role the Fourth Estate is supposed to play in our democracy.
    Wow.

  188. Gregor Samsa Says:

First you change the subject.. Bill asked if the press is the reason why Americans are turning against the WAR in Iraq.
    Comment by Paul — October 17, 2006 @ 6:18 pm

I see you have a reading comprehension issue, and/or are unable to make logical inductions.

It goes like this: Can 64% of the people who disagree with Pres Bush's handling of the Iraq war be under the spell of the anti-Bush press?

Do those 64% hold a negative view of the war in Iraq solely because of the media? Really? Does that sound like a logical, reasonable claim to you?

This bias will influence people in general to a negative opinion.

So, you are trying to tell us that 64% of all Americans have a negative view not because of the realities of the war, but because of the media.

In other words, it is your opinion that the problem is one of perception, and you would change the message rather than the policy.

Tell us Paul, how would the message need to change to make the war palatable? Conceal the casualties, perhaps? Convey "good news" only?

  189. Some Liberal Says:

    Trooth Fairy and others:

"I beleive that the terrorist suspects should be interrogated for information that may lead to the saving of American lives. While I do not believe permanent physical harm should be done to them, methods less physical should be used."

So what, are we talking aggressive tickling, or what? What about noogies? Wedgies? Maybe we can okay Wedgies? How about we take away their toilet paper (or bind their right hands) and just perform aggresive wedgie administration?

"You can not give these terrorist the same consideration you would give an American Citizen, with regards to habeas corpeus. They have no respect for such things and should not be afforded the same. They want all of us converted to their radical Islamic religion, and then murdered as punishment for our past sins. How do you afford someone like that the same consideration? I for one do not believe we can and survive all of this."
--- Why? . Such statements show little respect for "such things" if you are willing to strip them away from a stranger - enemy combatant or not. They are still human beings - even if completely musguided and homicidal. Look at the majority of the people committing these atrocities - young men with no hope or future following the insane idealogical ravings of madmen. Does that make them animals? No, you yourself might be the same given the same circumstances. You hate these people for trying to impose their culture on you -- which is exactly why they hate you.

"I for one do not believe we can and survive all of this."
--What good is survival if you have to stoop to their level to do so? We are Americans! We are supposed to be the good guys! Show some courage! Just because you're afraid doesn't mean you can strip human beings of their civil rights! The culture of fear is propagated by those in power who try and use it to control us.

I'm not afraid of fundamentalist Islam. Fill their stomachs, give them shelter, and stop trying to dictate their civil affairs for the benefit of foreign governments and you'll see some swords being beat into plowshares. You and I aren't trying to kill each other on the streets because our basic needs are being met and we have hope for the future. But I guarantee, if you take away our hope, if you take away the constitutional protections of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, in the guise of increasing security, you'll have a whole lot of violence going on in this country and it won't be by a bunch of Arabs halfway around the world. It'll be your friends and neighbors and yourself if you are pushed far enough. It's just human nature. Disenfranchisement breeds despair and contempt and violence.

    Words to live by:
Fear your God (note: not other people)
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

  193. ren Says:

Bush signs torture bill; Americans lose essential freedom. October 17, 2006

George W. Bush got what he wanted, ostensibly as a tool in his unfocused "war on terror": By signing into law the Military Commissions Act of 2006, Bush has made it legal for the C.I.A. to continue operating torture facilities in undisclosed, foreign countries, and for the writ of habeas corpus to be suspended for individuals who are designated "enemy combatants" against the U.S. (Designated by whom? That question remains unanswered.) The law also "establishes military tribunals that would allow some use of evidence obtained by coercion [that is, torture], but would give defendants access to classified evidence being used to convict them." (Reuters)
The provisions of Bush's new torture law mean that Americans have lost the key, constitutional right on which Anglo-American criminal law (and criminal-law procedures in true democracies in general) is founded; that's the basic right of an individual to know why he or she is being apprehended and detained. Now, technically, as in Stalin's Soviet Union, Hitler's Germany, Mao's China or Pol Pot's Cambodia, anyone labeled an "enemy combatant" - again, by whom; by Bush? - can be whisked away and never heard from again. That kind of authority, in the hands of corrupt or untruthful politicians, may or may not be an effective tool in some kind of "war on terror," but it certainly can be a useful tool when it comes to silencing their opponents.

In an Orwellian pronouncement dutifully reported by Voice of America, the taxpayer-funded "news" service that acts as a mouthpiece for the administration, Bush said: "The United States does not torture....It is against our laws and it is against our values. By allowing the C.I.A. program to go forward, this bill is preserving a tool that has saved American lives." Bush's claim flies in the face of numerous reports of torture conducted by American officials at U.S. military prisons or secret locations overseas.
