“[A]pprehension and unease

about the country’s international position are at high levels and…the public mood may be nearing a tipping point,” a new Foreign Affairs study shows. Eighty-seven percent of Americans believe the threat to national security is exacerbated when other countries and cultures view the United States in a negative light; 78 percent believe their country is seen as arrogant. Details HERE.

Arrogant and a complete lack of accountability is more like it.

    exacerbation.

Why is it that the more they exacerbate the more the nation goes blind?

Wow, you mean political capital is actually important?

Who’da thunk it? For six years we’ve been hearing that all we have to do is stick our chests out and murder people at random and then we’ll get everything we want. Everytime it doesn’t work, which is every time, we’re just supposed to do more of it.

    Weird.

It’s about time. I hit my tipping point when AG Ashcroft said that those who questioned the administration were only serving to help the terrorists.

I was way past tipped when Bush gave the Axis of Evil speech and began to shift focus from Al Qaeda to Iraq without completing the first job.

Then of course there was the Downing Street Memo, the lie in the State of the Union about Saddam and uranium, the outing of Valerie Plame, atrocities at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo, kidnapping and torture, ignoring basic human rights, locking up people indefinitely without a trial, refusal to talk with leaders they don’t like, etc. etc.

So if the majority of Americans have finally come to the conclusion that it’s overall bad when the US is viewed in a “negative light” and may be willing to cast their vote accordingly, all I can say is.. about time.

When one looks at the United States and thinks about how we go about handling our world affairs, how we treat life in general, people of different cultures or backgrounds, one can not believe this is the United States but maybe a fourth world culture with a demented and twisted mind. War is apparently the only solution to every problem we face. No one will stand up to this authority except the female gender. The male members of our goverment perpetuate crimes of all types, and are always treated to protections not afforded others.
Is it any wonder the world dislikes the arogent american?
Until we get new leaders we will act like Kim jong il and be looked at as perpetuators of crime. We have become worse that the mob.

Americans, ignorant? I dunno, I think Americans are more lemming-like that ignorant but you can debate that fine distinction to your heart’s content. Oh, arrogant. Same comment anyway.

Can you imagine Bush & Cheney on a trip around
    the World without SS protection?
    When I was a Marine medic in ‘68 & ‘69 the average
life expectancy in ‘Nam was 72 hours.
I’d give those two about 72 minutes most anywhere
    on the planet.
It only took 6 years to get to this point.
I’m afraid it could take 6 decades to repair the damage.
COEXIST. Muslims, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, etc…
It works, we should try it sometime.

This from a WaPo article today:
President Bush has signed a new National Space Policy that rejects future arms-control agreements that might limit U.S. flexibility in space and asserts a right to deny access to space to anyone “hostile to U.S. interests.”

The public, however, has not learned much about it: The policy was released at 5 p.m. on the Friday before Columbus Day, with no public announcement.

A number of nations have pushed for talks to ban space weapons, and the United States has long been one of a handful of nations opposed to the idea. Although it had abstained in the past when proposals to ban space weapons came up in the United Nations, last October the United States voted for the first time against a call for negotiations — the only “no” against 160 “yes” votes.

So why does the world dislik and distrust Bush – and the Americans for electing him?

Who cares what other countries think of us? We’ll just bomb them all back into the Stone Age. Simple, good vs. evil, black and white answer. Problem solved.

  10. Jason+Baddo says:

other countries and cultures view the United States in a negative light

Certainly China can’t possibly view us in a negative light. Not with that lopsided trade balance currently in their favor. No sir, those guys love us.

    > No sir, those guys love us.

They also take potshots with blinding lasers at US satellites.

Have you ever been overseas and watched Americans in action..? Arrogant is the right word and a very apt description.

Zim – 72 seconds outside the Green Zone, waving to the cheering throngs.

Cows have tipping points, we’re just pissed at the hijacking of our country, our Constitutional rights and our nation’s good name!

78 percent believe their country is seen as arrogant.

    No frickin’ sh*t.
