Conservatives Using Pro-Pedophilia Group To Tar Opponents»

In an apparent effort to deflect controversy from the congressional page scandal, some prominent conservatives have begun baselessly accusing their opponents of being allied with the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA).

NAMBLA is a group that promotes pedophilia and has called for the “abolition of age-of-consent and all other laws” regarding sexual relations with minors. Some examples:

Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA):

Rep. John T. Doolittle — under fire for his connection to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff — has been attacking his Democratic opponent, Charlie Brown, for belonging to the ACLU. To Doolittle, Brown’s membership in the ACLU is enough to characterize him as an extremist liberal, since the group has defended sexual predators such as the North American Man Boy Love Assn. in the past.

“It is astounding that anyone could defend a group dedicated to aiding and abetting pedophiles,” Doolittle said in a recent press release. [LA Times, 10/17/06]

Political pundit Pat Buchanan:

[House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)] has marched in gay pride parades with the North American Man/Boy Love Association, NAMBLA. Which, who are pedophiles who are trying to get the laws repealed for sex between men and boys. If she’s been marching with pedophiles, is she credible standing up there saying I’m shocked, shocked that some Republican is after 17 year old pages? [CNN, 10/8/06]

Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell (R):

With Republican Ken Blackwell trailing by double digits in almost every poll, Blackwell’s campaign Tuesday tried to link his Democratic opponent to child sex predators…

Blackwell also reiterated charges Tuesday that Strickland had voted in stride with the North American Man/Boy Love Association, which supports pedophilia. [Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/18/06]

Political pundit David Limbaugh:

Does Mrs. Pelosi truly support the National American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) or just proudly march in parades with them and receive 90 percent approval from their enablers in the American Civil Liberties Union? Inquiring minds surely want to know. [Washington Times, 10/12/06]

Boy that’s some weird strategy AND just all around weird stuff.

  2. Freedom+Hater Says:

    “THEY DO IT TOO!!”

  3. BlueArkansas Says:

Gee, I wonder if Jon Stewart will have anything to say about this…..?

  4. ForTruth Says:

That organization really is real? Oh crap, I just threw up in my mouth.

  5. D. Tree Says:

Desperate Republicans on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!!!

  6. ForTruth Says:

What would have prompted these conservatives to come up with that idea? These people truly spend too much time thinking of the things they supposedly hate so much.

  7. Republicans are the fear and smear party Says:

More desperate tactics by desperate Republicans.

  8. lw Says:

This is really getting creepy. So this is the new Republican campaign strategy, huh? Amazing.

  9. Bruce+Gorton Says:

John Doolittle :- Obviously is an idiot. The ACLU has defended cases across a broad spectrum of idealogies.

Pat Buchanan:- Believes all gay people are pedophiles.

    Ken Blackwell:- is clearly projecting.

David Limbaugh: Believes all gay people are pedophiles.

So all they have managed to actually do is confirm that they are either bigots, or desperate.

  10. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

Here’s the truth about Ted Strickland that Ken Blackwell is mangling.

Researchers did a meta-analysis of studies pertaining to the long-term effects of sexual abuse on children. They reported that the research did not support the fact that such abuse did not necessarily harm these children psychologically or in their social functioning as they entered adulthood. The report was published in the journal of the American Psychological Association (APA). Laura Shleshinger, among others, was outraged and made a public stink. A resolution was drafted in Congress to condemn the article, labelling it as supportive of sexual abuse of children, and condemning APA as well. Ted Strickland voted “present” only, essentially abstaining which, as a licensed psychologist and member of APA, he should have IMO. Blackwell, in his desperation, is using this to label Strickland as “failing to protect children from sexual abuse”.

  11. Al Says:

“It is astounding that anyone could defend a group dedicated to aiding and abetting pedophiles,” Doolittle said…

umm…you mean like the Republican Party?

  12. unbelievable Says:

So that’s what it sounds like when you wake up inside a pine box after being buried alive…

  13. Roger_Roger Says:

Why are they trying to run on this crap?

They should be pointing out that our economy is booming (above 12k today) and unemployment is under 5%. This gets people excited. What, are Dems claiming they will make the economy even better? HOW!!!

  14. unbelievable Says:

Wait a minute… The neocons accuse us liberals of wanting BIG government with oversight. So, how could we possibly support a group that wants to remove oversight (age of consent) laws?

Fallacious logic… that is the Republican Party’s middle name.

  15. Hardy+Haberman Says:

These guys are really desperate! I wonder when they will start trying to stop the election to avoid a landslide defeat?

  16. Briseadh+na+Faire Says:

It’s quite simple, if you support Civil Rights (as the ACLU is dedicated to doing) you support Terrorists, Pedophiles, Rapists, Murders, Drug Dealers, Drug Addicts and anyone else ever charged with commiting a crime.

The fact of the matter is, 30% of the population has surrendered their right to think and will swallow whatever comes (sic) their way.

  17. Badmoodman Says:

Rep. John T. Doolittle has been attacking his Democratic opponent, Charlie Brown, for belonging to the ACLU - - Oh, good grief.

  18. Democrat Soldier Says:

#21 - How much did the Dow raise when Pres. Clinton was in office?
From 3,000-4000 average to 10,000 average. A rise of 6,000.

How much did the Dow rise under Pres. Bush?
From 10,000 average to 12,000 today. A rise of 2,000.

Oh yeah, your Republicans sure can do math quite well!

I won’t go into the average unemployment rate comparison between Pres. Clinton and Pres. Bush. I don’t want to depress you too much in one post, sweetie.

  19. nitpicker Says:

    Hmmm…

    Didn’t the ACLU defend Limbaugh?

  20. budpaul Says:

ACLU = the ultimate boogeyman for the right.
    America’s Least Wanted

  21. TheToonGuy Says:

21 - Oh yes, the economy is booming. It’s everything I can do to avoid being hit by the fallout. Roger, you must either be a millionaire or deluded. All of us regular folks in the working class keep looking at the rising costs of maintaining a home and family and supporting the corporations by the sweat of our brow.

  22. Bruce+Gorton Says:

    Roger_Roger

First the Dow isn’t that great. It is only any good if you don’t take inflation into account and besides, it would jump a bit with dropping oil prices (which have been curiously timed for the elections.)

The unemployment rate is a mythical figure. If you think about it logically Bush’s New Job figures have not kept pace with America’s population growth, and further all sectors save the service industry have lost jobs. Part time work is enough to take you off of the unemployment figures, and so is not finding work within six months.

About all the Republicans really have going for them is the fact that right now they are the incumbents, and with scandal after scandal hitting them in quick succession, this is all they have got.

What the Democrats have to offer is this:

Unlike the Republican Congress’ record for lowest number of days worked in a year, the Democrats will come to work and strive to do as much in the way of Congress’ standard duties as possible. They will take their duties as a check and a balance to the President seriously.

They will cut pork projects and instead spend on more important issues. There will not be a repeat of what happened in 2005, where a much needed improvement to New Orleans’ levee system was dumped in favour of a bridge to nowhere in Alaska, after 2004 was a record breaking year for hurricanes in the gulf.

A complete audit of spending programes sponsored by Congress, in order to see just what the money is going to, and whether it is being spent effeciently. A serious investigation into political favours as regards the granting of contracts. Balancing the budget before spending the money.

Greater accountability within congress, including not hiding meetings, nor keeping the opposing party out of the said meetings. A consensus goverment if you will.

Greater moves to bring America into line on enviromental policies, aiding its ability to compete with more enviromentally advanced states. Ford suffers from the “Dirty American” image it has right now.

Reduction of tax breaks for companies which outsource labour into other countries, and the introduction of tax incentives to companies that hire and buy locally. Serious fines for companies which hire illegal immigrants at below minimum wage, both for hiring illegal immigrants and for paying them less then minimum wage.

Upping the minimum wage to the point of being a living wage and indexing it with inflation, thereby keeping America’s consumer base reasonable in its size and scope. If more people can afford to buy, more people will buy.

Upping top end taxes, in order to make up the difference on public works projects. If you want a elequent argument for why it is in the interests of the rich for this to happen, come to South Africa, look at the boomed suburbs and then look at the walls, and the electric fencing on the top of them. In the long run it is better not to have too large a percentage of your people poor and robbing you.

Moving to normalise relations with the rest of the world, because having the world hate you reduces the number of people who want to buy American products.

  25. Wayne Says:

Whenever the Repukes get caught red handed ( like covering up for a pedophile ) they try to paint their opposition with the same crime. Even if they have to lie and distort to do it.

In other words, they are pulling the crap out of their own collective a$$ and trying to smear others with it.

    Like monkees.

  26. SpudgeBoy Says:

They should be pointing out that our economy is booming (above 12k today) and unemployment is under 5%.

The stock market is an indicator of how rich the wealthy are getting.

Unemployed people are not counted after their unemployment checks stop. They don’t magically get employed, they just aren’t counted.

Yeah, I dare the republicans to run on how greta the economy is. I don’t even know any republicans that think the economy is great. And no, I don’t think you are a republican.

  30. RealScientist Says:

Why would Pelosi support this group?

    Comment by Gandi — October 19, 2006 @ 5:06 pm

Well, obviously THIS idiot is falling for it. Most people aren’t, however.

Just another pathetic sick case of projection by a sick pathetic group of liars after getting caught themselves protecting pedophiles.

  31. carollt Says:

I am very tired of hearing the ‘haters’ again spouting their hateful comments. Since they cannot run on the issues, they resort to attacks that are full of nothing but lies.

These same folks claim the Christian religion for the Republicans. Well, folks, take your hate and your lies and go straight to hell.

The liars know their time is short, so they lie all the more in their desperate attempt to keep power.

Power to the people and a pox on all the liars.

  32. RUCerious Says:

Pardon the off topic post, but this is just now circulating …
    from jurist.law.pitt.edu
    Dateline Saturday, Sept 30th.
“The US Congress sent its final version of the military commissions bill [JURIST news archive] to President Bush late Friday after the House voted 250-170 [roll call] to approve the Senate’s version of the legislation [text, PDF]. The House of Representatives [official website] had approved [JURIST report] its own version of the bill [HR 6166 text] Wednesday by a vote of 253-168 [roll call], but House leaders decided to forego the process of reconciling the two nearly-identical sets of legislation in the interests of getting the measure passed before Congress adjourned. The president is expected to sign the measure soon.”
    from clerk.house.gov
    1:05 A.M. -
The House adjourned pursuant to H. Con. Res. 483. The next meeting is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on November 9, 2006.

A Pocket Veto is when the President fails to sign a bill within the 10 days allowed by the Constitution.
Congress must be in adjournment in order for a pocket veto to take effect.

If Congress is in session and the president fails to sign the bill, it becomes law without his signature.

    10/17 9:35 AM
President signs bill that has already been pocket vetoed.

  33. Bluedog49 Says:

Republicans are scared stupid, backed into a corner and getting uglier by the minute. Unless they find a way to steal it, they’re going to be watching Democratic legislators setting the agenda for all committees come next year.

Roger: “What, are Dems claiming they will make the economy even better? HOW!!!”

That’s simple: incrementally higher rates on the wealthiest Americans and targeted tax cuts to the working middle class and the poor. That way, you not only have nice corporate profits, but lower poverty rates, lower crime, less abortion. In other words, all boats rise. It’s been done and we got the longest and biggest peacetime expansion of our economy in history. If we didn’t have a compromised conservative corporate media, we’d even have a name for this approach. It would be called CLINTONOMICS!

  34. RUCerious Says:

Blue - They are going to take no prisoners, give no quarter, no trick will be dirty enough to make them even blink.
They hate the American political process unless they are able to manipulate it to their advantage. Because they are convinced that they and only they have the “right” to rule.

  35. RUCerious Says:

BTW, pardon my off topic post. My legal beagles tell me that only applies to vetoes, not to signed bills. Damn. Just when I thought there might be a glimmer….

  36. the+fly-man Says:

Aren’t people just a little incensed that ELECTED officials are being made into domestic terrorists by pundit fiat? Is Tom Delay really absent from the scene? I don’t think so. Why isn’t anyone from the accuser party saying that along with pedophilia, lying to voters about intentions regarding a War, controlled government spending and derogatory abuse of the Constitution leaves a horrible trail of victims as well? I guess as long as you just have sex with your first, second or third, page, excuse me, wife, it’s ok.

  37. Zooey Says:

I love the smell of wingnut desperation in the…..well, hell, I love it anytime.

  38. vwcat Says:

why don’t the democrats paint the rupublicans as extreem fringe rightists. What’s good for one is good for the other. I’d start a campaign of tarring them as fringe wingnut extreemists.

It’s high time we give them all the boot!!!!!!
