O’Reilly on Blogosphere: ‘I’d Go in With A Hand Grenade’

Last night on The O’Reilly Factor, political strategist Larry Sabato bemoaned the “blogs on left and right” and “the things they come up with daily, the vitriol, the vile nature of the comments.”

O’Reilly said that he knew “for a fact that President Bush doesn’t know what’s going on in the Internet.” O’Reilly then said, “I have to say President Bush has a much healthier attitude toward this than I do. Because if I can get away with it, boy, I’d go in with a hand grenade.” Watch it:

Digg It!

Transcript:

SABATO: It’s very personal. And you’ve mentioned the blogs earlier.

O’REILLY: Oh, it was off the chart.

LARRY SABATO: Well, we both have experienced this. The blogs on left and right, and I mean way left and way right, the things they come up with daily, the vitriol, the vile nature of the comments. And then they have hundreds and hundreds of people e-mailing.

O’REILLY: I know for a fact that President Bush doesn’t know what’s going on in the Internet. I know that for a fact because I did ask around.

SABATO: Well, he’s lucky.

O’REILLY: But.

SABATO: He’s lucky.

O’REILLY: He is lucky, because these are hired guns. These are people hired — being paid very well to smear and try to destroy people. And that’s the difference, Dr. Schiller. That had never happened before. I’ll give you the last word.

BROWN POLITICAL SCIENTIST WENDY SCHILLER: Well, I think that one thing is for sure. The millions of voters that go to the polls in 2006 aren’t spending most of their working hours during the day reading blogs on the Internet. They’re working for a living. They’re taking those kids to school. They’re going on with their lives. So yes, there’s a lot of vitriol out there. It’s a marketplace of ideas. It’s a free country last time we all checked. And it still is. It’s a great country.

O’REILLY: All right.

SABATO: It’s free for that reason.

O’REILLY: I think – I have to say President Bush has a much healthier attitude toward this than I do. Because if I can get away with it, boy, I’d go in with a hand grenade.

  1. cgreen says:

    “Vitriol” compared to “hand grenade.”

    Hmmm.

  2. Briseadh+na+Faire says:

O’REILLY: I think – I have to say President Bush has a much healthier attitude toward this than I do. Because if I can get away with it, boy, I’m going in with a hand grenade.

So, a champion of the Reich has just admitted that if he could get away with it, he would commit premeditated murder.

  3. pinson says:

Bring it Billo! But he’d never show up, armed or otherwise.

  4. Heterodoxy says:

Kill what you cannot control. If it loves you it will live and be a Real American and that will be good.

    //Fox keyboard sarcasm off

  5. RUCerious says:

    Frag those tubes Billy O’Silly!

  6. Democrat Soldier says:

What? Only a hand grenade, no falafel?

  7. Ed Deevy says:

We’ve reached a tipping point…the Old Media are no longer in total control of the narrative. And some people are freaking out about this new development. There is a lot of members of the MSM that would like to throw grenades at those opinionated bloggers!!

  8. Robert says:

    O’Shrill: – it’s called Freedom – what’s your problem with that?

  9. Clyde+the+Ripper says:

I have a suggestion for O’Liely and the placement of his hand grenade. I would not want to be in the same room with him when it goes off, however.

  10. bobcat_grad says:

Dang those blogs and their ever watchful eye; making sure that talking heads don’t get away with inaccurate statements or broad brush assumptions.

  11. bobcat_grad says:

I also love O’Reilly’s explanation for his ‘fact:’

I know for a fact that President Bush doesn’t know what’s going on in the Internet. I know that for a fact because I did ask around.

Hey, I asked around at my office if they think Miller Lite tastes great or is less filling. They all said less filling. Therefore, I know for a fact that Miller Lite is less filling. I know what for a fact because I did ask around.

  12. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

I know “for a fact that President Bush doesn’t know what’s going on in the Internet” or anywhere outside his insulated little neocon world.

“Because if I can get away with it, boy, I’m going in with a hand grenade” which I would promptly stick up my a** and blow my brains out.

“These are people hired — being paid very well to smear and try to destroy people” and it’s costing me alot of money to get them to back me up.

“I’ll give you the last word” or maybe not.

  13. Wayne A. Schneider says:

If Bill saw the song parody I wrote about him on my blog (click on my name), I’m sure he’d leave more than just a hand grenade. For a guy who thought that anyone who disagreed with the president’s decision to invade Iraq should “shut up”, he sure does seem to enjoy his own freedom of speech.

  14. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

Seriously, O’Reilly clearly showed us all the neocon moral compass when he said “if I can get away with it”. Not if I “could”, but if I “can”. Not with a better argument, but with a hand grenade. Stay the corpse (as a fellow progressive traveler so well put it).

  15. RealScientist says:

I find it interesting that the Bush worshipping trolls that pollute this site are always talking about how liberals have “anger management problems”. Take a look in the mirror, freaks.

  16. chimpeach says:

Gee, B.O. sure does threaten a lot of people with bodily harm. I think there’s a risk of him actually carrying out these threats. Didn’t he say he wanted to shoot Al Franken “between the head?” He’s just nutty enough to do it.

Judd, maybe you need to have the ThinkProgress Security folks go over and pay Bill a visit.

  17. Gregor+Samsa says:

“the things they come up with daily, the vitriol, the vile nature of the comments.”

Bemoans the man who routinely spews the most vitriolic, vilest comments on the air.

If you pay attention to what O’Reilly says, what he is really sad about is not what’s being said in the blogosphere but the fact that people can express themselves -because, you see, in O’Reilly’s world he should have an absolute monopoly on vitriol and vile comments.

These are people hired — being paid very well to smear and try to destroy people.

Says the man who has no compunctions about smearing political opponents -like when he asked for te FBI to arrest the people at AirAmerica because they are “traitors”.

Bill, hypocrisy is your middle name.

  18. Buford says:

Help me here, but isn’t that a thinly-veiled terrorist threat?

What would happen if I wrote a letter to my local paper to bemoan what I perceived to be a conservative bias and told them, “If I thought I could get away with it, I’d go in there with a hand grenade!”.

Think I’d have a visit from the local authorities…?

  19. Zimzone says:

    Bill, you ignorant slut.
Your voice is heard Nationally by many people.
Given the fact you’re a liar & a supreme asshole,
should you actually have the right to speak at all?
    NO!
But, you do, don’t you? That’s called freedom of speech.
You wingnuts wanting a 1 party system can move to
China or N Korea. Take your hand grenade with, you’ll
need it. I hear Mongolia is nice this time of year.

Bloggers, take some credit here…we’re driving them
    absolutely nuts!
    NUTTIER?

  20. Jay Randal says:

LOL big bad O’Reilly > come after me with a grenade you dumb pompous fascist fool > I will stuff that loofa sponge you like so much up your ass!

  21. barfly says:

Now O’Reilly’s sounding like the neighborhood gossip: “I know for a fact that old man Bush doesn’t know what’s going on out behind his garage. I know that for a fact because I did ask around.”

  22. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

For some reading pleasure on criminal thinking patterns, do an internet search on “Samenow thinking errors”. Then compare them with comments and “reasonings” used by BushCo and the neocon talking heads.

  23. RUCerious says:

Hey Bill, I know a couple of my buddies from Phu Bai could give you a few pointers on fragging.
    1. Remember, after you pull the pin, open your hand up and pee your pants.
    2. Bend over, way way over and kiss your ass goodbye.

  24. John says:

Isn’t it funny the way he thinks that bloggers are paid character assassins? Well, it’s funny that he thinks that about LEFTY bloggers …

  25. bs says:

did anyone watch keith olbermanns special comment lastnight?

only, if only he could say that to his face.

  26. Sharon Cox says:

Sorry folk’s, it appear’s O’Lilie is more important than our civil tight’s and I am not ammused…Nearly every week there is a thread on this miserable excuse for something living…Slow day, TP? Oh well the text is still a nightmare and nothing worth my time so will just leave…..

  27. theswan says:

They would kill all, everything that of good that existed if they could. And in a violent manner, at that. The use of violence is their only “solution”.
Bill lives by the sword and will hopefully die by the hand grenade.
He will never accomplish his mission. But die in lonely obscurity.

  28. Kelso says:

I was on YouTube last night and noticed Sen. Ted Kennedy has a video up talking about the net neutrality issue.

There are some people who can adapt in order to reach through to younger people using the latest tools, and then there’s tools like O’Billy and similar talking-head nitwits who hopelessly wish they could get rid of and/or control those information outlets.

  29. Caught and fired says:

Bill doesn’t like it because it exposes how crazy he is. And that he is a lying hypocrite shilling for the idiotic president. Mr. No Spin Zone is a farce and he gets all choked up, in tears and trembles whenever he interviews the Decider or other person in power.

The only reason to watch him, is for a laugh once in a while.

Bo-Freakin-hoo O’Rielly. Given a hand grenade, you’d likely stick it up your ass.

  30. ForTruth says:

Hopefully Billy won’t be able to throw the grenade in time.

  31. Jay Randal says:

O’Reilly does not even know how to use a grenade! He has not served in the military, so he would pull the pin with the lever out and blow himself to bits before throwing it > lol.

  32. Jackie says:

O’Reilly wouldn’t join the military to save the United States but he would fight like hell for Satan aka Bush now that tells alot. O’Reilly is a coward and a sicko who only hits on women for his sick sex needs and he fits right in with the other GOP group. Ask O’Reilly is he still paying back the money Fox news paid for his sexual harassment suit. O’Reilly and Ann Coultar make a great couple of wing nuts. Oh but Katie Couric is running a fast second place as CBS hits rock bottom in the ratings.

  33. Jay Randal says:

O’Reilly got mad last night because the Blogs outed Sen. Larry Craig as a Gay/Bisexual man, who visits restrooms to find men to have sex with him > remember O’Reilly himself got outed as a pervert, who calls up young women trying to get them to shower with him > lol.

  34. Instapummel says:

It’s time for FOX News Channel to rename the program The O’Liminationist Rhetoric Factor

  35. chris says:

if he’s as good at lobbing hand grenades as he is at telling the truth, we have nothing to worry about

  36. ForTruth says:

The blogs are a threat to disingenuous pigs like O’liely.

  37. carollt says:

I am sure that the powers that be would love to limit the internet and the free speech that is possible because of it. If Bill O’Reilly had his way, no one but the radical right would be allowed to put forth an opinion. In much the same way, his good buddy Ann Coulter suggested that certain people should not be allowed to vote.

The Rs are going to have to change because the internet is here and in full vigor for this exciting election season. People (myself included) are getting a chance to participate in ways not thought possible just a few years ago. More and more, the main-stream media is picking up its tips from the many blogs out there. Politicians can no longer tightly control their message through the media as used to be the case.

Why, citizens just might get a clue and take back this country. A government of the people. What a novel idea, eh?

  38. Pvt Ratfuck says:

Where was O’Rielly when the Country needed for him to toss a couple of grenades in Nam?

  39. ckerst says:

We are well paid for smearing O’Reilly? Where’s my check? I’ve been doing it for free just because he deserves it.

  40. b b says:

This is no joke. This is a terrorist threat. There are a specific, ascertainable number of ‘bloggers’ and O’Reilly has threatened them with real violence which he would (considering his fanatical suppliers) be able to bring about. This individual should be arrested on charges of a criminal terrorist threat (as defined by criminal codes in most states). This is not First Amendment protected activity anymore than threatening to kill someone.

  41. Toes says:

I’m staying up nights just waiting for you, asshole.

  42. hellinabucket says:

I can see it now “ComandO’Reilly” defender of ignorance, injustice and the republican way.

  43. ann says:

#42 – my thoughts exactly. and while they’re out picking up people who make terrorist threats, they might want to get Ann “creme brulee” Coulter.

  44. b+b says:

This is a ‘terrorist threat’ as defined under state criminal codes by any aggressive prosecuter. This is not 1st amendment protected speech, just as someboy threatening to do the same to Fox News would not be protected speech and why nobody makes such threats.

  45. COLORADO BOB says:

Bill said I was well ” Well Funded “…… Where’s my check ?

    http://thank-you-keith-olbermann.blogspot.com

  46. yank in london says:

I think a number of complaints to the FBI would be appropriate. After all if they have to investigate this they won’t have so much time to run surveillance on middle aged Quakers!

  47. KikiD says:

Honestly, I think millions of voters ARE trolling the blogosphere at work. Or at home, because that’s where the facts are readily available and it’s fun to join in. And working sucks and most of us are working for bumpkis and can’t afford high speed internet at home and it’s our way of screwing the man.

At least I hear things like that. I’m on “break”.

Besides, if the so called liberal media won’t do their Constitutionally mandated JOB and provide some checks and balances, someone has to step up to the plate. Thanks, Think Progress.

  48. Jell-OH Schott says:

OT, but Riverbend has a new post up.

  49. Keith H. says:

Yeah bill . . . with any luck, just as you were drawing the grenade back to give it a heave . . . it would fall down the back of your shirt.

  50. justthetruth says:

I know for a fact that President Bush doesn’t know what’s going on in the Internet. I know that for a fact because I did ask around.

I wouldn’t be surprised to know that dubya doesn’t know about what’s going on on the internet….he doesn’t know what’s going on ANYWHERE! That’s the basic problem with GWB. How in the world could anyone who’s charged with leading the United States of America NOT be aware of internet content directly addressing his competence and the success/failure of his foreign policies? I think the real point is that dubya doesn’t really care what us “regular people” think. After all…he’s the “decider”.

  51. Marie says:

These are people hired — being paid very well to smear and try to destroy people. So says the hypocrite of broadcasting.
BO doesn’t see that he is up there with Limbaugh and Coulter in spewing distortions, exaggerations, fabrications and outright lies to his audience.

  52. hellinabucket says:

With so many different “internets” out there GW doesn’t know which one to look at. Good thing for him Billdo is on the job.

  53. Humanist says:

Fools, you are being baited. Now, all you have to do is respond in a manner that could be construed to be a “threat” and presto, you can be designated an “enemy combatant” and whisked away into the never-never land of top secret detention, a.k.a “disappeared”.

You think such is not legal and cannot happen in the USA? You are wrong on both counts. It has been happening in the USA right under your noses and you do nothing. And, of course, it is also legal because you, through your elected REPRESENTATIVES, voted for it to be so. Deny that all you want but that is how your system of government works whether you acknowledge it or not.

Welcome to your hell. What is astounding, I must say, is that instead of actively climbing out of the hell in which you have placed yourselves, you spend your time complaining that some of the demons down there are “meanies”.

Good luck to you on that.

May peace be with us all.

  54. justthetruth says:

a quick poll….how many of your “hired guns” are getting paid for this?

  55. Jay Randal says:

Post 56 > I get paid with peanuts, I work cheap > lol.

  56. justthetruth says:

Humanist…how is it that YOU are somehow insulated from inclusion in our “hell” that WE created? Most of us here are progressive thinkers who love freedom and that’s why we are speaking out. And trust me, most of the people on this blog are well aware of how our rights are being eroded and our freedoms threatened by the current administration and their neoconservative ideology.

  57. Sparky says:

Where are the all the assassins?????? Somebody pleeeeeeeeeease take this satan worshiper out of his misery!

  58. Dog_named_Boo says:

    {paints a hand grenade to look like a falafel and slips it into BORes dressing room}

    Go Assrocket!

  59. Humanist says:

    justthetruth,
I am not in your “hell”, no. Nor will I be joining you.

In regard to your rights and freedoms being eroded and taken away from you, you are mistaken. You see, rights and freedoms cannot be taken from you, they can only be surrendered. That is not opinion, but fact and you should probably educate yourself on that.

    Peace.

  60. sig@zipa.com says:

I know for a fact that President Bush doesn’t know what’s going on in the world.

  61. Bruce+Gorton says:

    Humanist

Most of the posters here voted Democrat or Independent in the last three elections. While it is true twelve Democrats stabbed them in the back, for the most part it wasn’t their representatives, nor their will that got America into the position it is in now.

Anyway, as to your argument that they are doing nothing, the first step to problem solving is identifying the problem.

  62. Frank Dwyer says:

If he got his handgrenade momentarily confused with a falafel or a loofah, he might still be holding it when it went off. Isn’t that wonderful to think of?

  63. justthetruth says:

Humanist…rights and freedoms are taken away from individuals and groups on a daily basis by criminals, terrorists, and unfortunately by elected officials who believe they are an instrument of god. You’re right about one thing though…we have created a mess here in the US. Watch us in November though and see how we are going to take back our country.

  64. . says:

Shrub doesn’t read the newspapers, read blogs or news on the internets, watch television news, listen to opposing opinions, eat pretzels etc. etc

  65. Pastor Doodah says:

I’ll kill you with a hand grenade if you say things I don’t like.
    as opposed to the ‘islamofacists’
I’ll kill you if you say my religion is intolerant.

    -ps

“free country” Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaa, ah ha-hah-haaah ha ha ha etc.

  66. Jayson says:

BO the imaginary Vietnam war hero would throw the pin and hold the grenade

  67. Beverly+S.+Hill says:

O’Lielly certainly is correct about one thing – BUSH DOESN’T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  68. Erroll says:

The odds should be good that O’Reilly’s infelicitous comment should make Olbermann’s nominee for Worst Person in the World Award on his show tonight.

  69. Green says:

O’REILLY: I know for a fact that President Bush doesn’t know what’s going on in the Internet. I know that for a fact because I did ask around.

Bush has no clue what is going on around him PERIOD.

Isn’t is amazing how O’Reilly et.al. (i.e. Ann Coulter) get away with the vitriol, the vile nature of [their] comments yet when others do it, it somehow becomes horrific.

O’REILLY: … I have to say President Bush has a much healthier attitude toward this than I do…

    Isn’t ignorance bliss!!?

  70. Humanist says:

    Bruce+Gorton,
Good thing that law only applies to the people whose representatives voted for it. Oh, wait, that’s not how it works.

And I agree that you need to identify the problem before you can solve it. What is remarkable is that you all seem to think that Bill O’Really, Foley, and missing white chicks are your problems. Judging from what you all talk and do things about.

  71. big+papa says:

I’m wondering if Liberal progressives should…

    …employ Bushiva’s preemptive defense initiative…

    …against al Cracker Billy boob?

    …after all…

…isn’t what he said considered to be…

    …a terrorist threat?

  72. rcm says:

Free speech really get under O’rally’s goat.. How dare these “hired guns & commentors” spread lies and hate! That’s FOX News job!!! So, be warned.. SO WATCH OUT PEOPLE! OTHERWISE O’RALLY IS GOING TO PULL THE PIN ON HIS FALAFAL AND YOU’LL ALL BE PITA MEAT.

  73. Humanist says:

    justthetruth,
Believe me, I’m watching. Unlike you all here, I see the murder and atrocities committed by the USA in Iraq. I see the exploitation of the “disadvantaged” and “underprivileged”. I see the abandonment of your elderly. I see the tossing aside of the poor and needy.

What you all see is a political football game and a scoreboard that has no relevance aside from either bolstering or demeaning your own sense of self worth, depending on which “team” you are cheering for.

There is some truth for you. Would you like more or do you feel comfortable in your self-imposed ignorance?

May peace be with us all.

  74. blogthis says:

Blogs are what really can go on between the eyes.. below the mind surface.. the o’reillys don’t like the free thought that goes through people’s fingertips on to the screen.. it shows that there are those folks that don’t see eye to eye with him or the administration.. it shows free will (not always of course..) the tool allows for a glimpse of just about anyone to say whatever is on their mind.. kind of a finnegan wake… subconsciousness exposed.. this needs to be “handled” it needs to be stifled and controlled and harnessed.. no one must share thoughts outside of how you should be thinking! You are all insane!!!!! But I digress..
(this is an example of itself.. did not mean to drone on and on)

  75. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

What is remarkable is that you all seem to think that Bill O’Really, Foley, and missing white chicks are your problems. Judging from what you all talk and do things about.

    Comment by Humanist

These things ARE a huge part of our problem as our representative democracy depends upon transparency in government and informed citizenry. When our politicians and our media lie, distort, or withhold information we cannot make sound decisions on who to elect, what to complain about, or to demand changes.

  76. Verifi says:

    >

Isn’t it a tad rich O’Reilly talking about “SMEAR & DESTROY PEOPLE… HIRED GUNS” ?? Isn’t that HIS job description?

And where does a flunky of RUPERT MURDOCH… disseminator of STATE PROPAGANDA (the Chinese version of “Fox news”) for COMMUNIST CHINA… get off calling any of *us* mere American citizens “traitors”?

And when Ann Coulter made her “9-11 widows are millionaires ABUSING THEIR CELEBRITY” snearing comments – wasn’t she goring HER OWN OX?

I must say, I’m a bit dumbfounded that others have noticed or pointed out these glaring “pot calling kettle black” hypocricies.

  77. El+Tonno says:

O’RLY? What is needed is a Second Life project where Bill can log in after a nice, strong cup of coffee in the morning, then frag bloggerbots all day to his heart’s content. This will make the boop tube kinder, gentler….

  78. justthetruth says:

Humanist…I think you’re missing the point. Most of the posters here agree with you (and me) that there are atrocities being comitted by the US all over the world. Like you, we deplore the exploitation of the disadvantaged and the oppressed and we are trying to let our voices be heard by our administration. This is much more to us than a “football game” and most of us are here because we want moral and ethical representation in our government and we are fighting in any way we can, against an ideology that is trying to hijack our way of life. We know the US is no longer considered to be the moral compass of the world, but we are pissed off about it and we want to change things. I suspect you and I would be friends if we met at a pub and I strongly suspect we share the same ideas about what is right and wrong.

  79. cdnbacon says:

I think we would all be much better served if we dont blow out of proportion a silly comment from a blow-hard like O’Reilly. O’Reilly says so many more pertinent ridiculous comments that are really off the charts that we could talk about. This simply wasnt one of them – looking at the video, he was obviously not serious and for us to make a big deal of this makes us look stupid, ridiculous and petty. Remember, the reason Dems are ahead in the polls across the nation is not because they are making petty attacks, but because they are finally attacking and challenging the real issues. This should be our focus. This blog and Huffington Post is better than that.

  80. drp says:

The dumbass would probably blow himself up with it.

  81. dare says:

The world not going according to Bill and FAUX propaganda. Why do you hate democratic expression so much Billy? Loosing audience and control? GOOD!!! I have heard enough of your repulsive smear. Now we are equal an you HATE that, I know. Get used to it pal!

  82. ADW says:

    And do what you pusscatore

  83. tmcveighdiedahero says:

Bill, Bill, Bill….do yourself a favor and come out of your closet! All the GOP is doing it. And if not, put that hand grenade up inside your nasty bowel and blow your ‘brains’ out. Now that’s entertainment!

  84. Humanist says:

    justthetruth,
I hear what you are saying, but I don’t agree that the level of urgency is understood here in this blog or, for that matter, in the USA. You see, for far too many these issues are matters of life and death. There are no issues more urgent than that.

But for the american middle and upper classes, you are either too insulated or too removed to comprehend the urgency and magnitude of these issues. I fear that it will not become clear to you until the matters of life and death are brought to your doorsteps, at which time it will probably be too late. But make no mistake, it is coming and it is a whole lot closer than you can imagine.

I hope that you all reverse the course and that we may share in libations and friendly discourse. Keep in mind that the world is not your enemy, but your actions are such that you are becoming the world’s enemy.

    Peace.

  85. Ultra V says:

I have this great sick image of “Oh Really?” with a hand grenade in one and and a …..loofa in the other.

    “Oh Really?” ready for action!!!

  86. Rafael says:

    “If only the Fuhrer knew!”

  87. El+Perro+Patron says:

    Loofah, Falafel, Hand Grenade….

    What’s the difference?

  88. Nova16 says:

Bill’s verbal fisticuffs have now turned into a threat of physical battery. I have never seen a man so continously combative and angered over the discussions that occur on his show. Most of his guests with a different point of view are usually bombarded with vitriol or threats. The latest is his hand grenade warning to the internet. Bill is either neurotic or psychotic. A neurotic believes that 2+2=5. A psychotic knows that 2+2=4, but he’ damned mad about it. I believe Bill is psychotic.

  89. evil spock says:

  92. Eric Jaffa says:

Why isn’t Larry Sabato decrying the “vitriol” of Bill O’Reilly?

  93. Hrotea says:

I emailed Bill O’Reilly about his interview with President Bush but he censured it. This is what I wrote to the best of my recollection:

Your interview of President Bush reveals your other side. You threw softball and leading questions. You were passive and agreeable, not confrontational. You did not interrupt him. You were so unlike when you interview liberal or democratic guests whom you love to insult and put down. That shows you have a split personality that makes you an interesting specimen for a scientific study on human behavior.

  94. Lee Fairbanks says:

Anyone see Bill O Lielately “not trust” this republican administration?

I hear he promised that if there were, in fact, no WMDs, he would never trust them again.

Bill is so f-ing disgusting. I know it’s faux new but how can they keep this disgusting freak on the air.

Anyone know that freaky lady on the religion channels? She has this white wig the size of Canada with fake eyelashes that poke her fellow gests and she carries a sponge in her right hand to suck the tears from her eyes. Perhaps Faux should hire her to do the news. It would keep the theme going with their freaky news anchors that they host.

I suspect their going to have to institutionalize Bill here but I’m afraid they may have to be careful…he did threaten to use a hand granade. He did say he can’t really control himself.

Insane in the membrane, insane in the brain.

You know, Humanist, I can play that game, too. For example, what good is it to get all worked up over the military tribunals bill, which can hypothetically be overturned or changed, when we’ve got the threat of rigged elections looming which could make it impossible to overturn or change that law or any laws.

Why do you waste your time thinking about anything else but election fraud, purged voter rolls, and hackable electronic voting machines with no paper trails? Your concerns are trivial in comparison.

See how it works? So, apart from trying to shame everyone for not focusing like a laser on the military tribunals bill and the loss of habeas corpus, what exactly are you doing to remedy that situation? I’m glad that you’re concerned about it, but the fact that some of us can pay attention to other things at the same time doesn’t mean we’re any less concerned.

  100. Humanist says:

    Tio Sider,
Welcome to the slippery slope of your dimented perspective on reality. It was a joke, you say. All in good fun.

If you truly think that to be the case then make a call to the DC police and joke about doing the same thing in the halls of congress. Be sure to let me know how funny they think it is. Assuming, that is, that you do not die from the torture that you voted to allow your “gubment” to perform on you.

  101. justthetruth says:

Humanist…I only wish the “leadership” of this country could read what you have to say. God knows, an increasing number of Americans are starting to understand. We abhor what the word “American” has come to mean to our global neighbors and we won’t stop until we succeed in routing out the scoundrels. Please understand that there are MANY of us here who DO see the urgency of our situation and who DO understand that so many of our government’s policies are hurting our own citizens and so many others around the world. Don’t give up on us yet.

  102. oldtree says:

I will pay per view for that if he opts out on smothering the grenade.

  103. Humanist says:

    chimpeach,
You are looking for things to complain about and doing nothing to fix the problems. That is the issue.

Piles of dead Iraqis? Not your fault, you were misled into the “war”.

Abandonment of your poor and needy? Wish you could do something but, after all, you do have those Hummer payments to make.

Exploitation of the “disadvantaged”? Hey, their just doing jobs that americans don’t want to do.

Suspending of Habeas Corpus? Gee, us ‘merikans don’t speak Latin and its all Greek to us.

Torture? Well, that’s all in the eyes of the beholder.

But, if your “team” doesn’t win the game (election), well call down the wrath of God because we have an important issue going on.

Yes, chimpeach, you are on the ball. Good luck to you on that.

    Peace.

I, like you, truly hope that the voices of reason and peace rise up and take control of the travesty that the USA has become. But, please understand that it has to happen very soon. The results of the complacency and ignorance of the american people cannot be tolerated any longer. Far too many Iraqi’s have paid the price. Heck, far too many of your own people have paid the price.

You have to adopt a sense of urgency or the wave of retaliation will be devastating. It is now a matter of self defense, and one can only accept the excuse of “we’re working on it” for so long. Understand that that time has passed.

May peace be with us ALL.

Spare us the condescension. Bill O’Reilly has platforms where he casually spews out “metaphors” day in and night out. Interesting how his “metaphors” usually have something to do with harming American citizens who happen to disagree with him.

If you don’t like the idea of ordinary Americans venting over and responding to Bill’s crap on blogs like this then I’d suggest you’d get your porno from some other site.

  141. todd says:

Hmm, Bill threatning all of us bloggers. I would have to say that could be considered terrorism. Under the newly passed Military Commisons Act 2006 he could be taken away to a prison and tortured into submission. Maybe this bill aint so bad after all :)

Yeah, look at the ratings; Oreilly is falling down past 1.6 million viewers a night. That is in a country of 300 million? David is taking on Goliath and winning.

  143. Michael says:

I’m glad to see how Sabato handled himself there. He said “blogs” then made sure everyone knew he was talking about both sides (”From the left and the right”), and then said that he was only talking about the extreme partisans blogs (”i mean way left and right”).

And on the way left and right there is a lot of vitriol.

Unfortunately, while he didn’t say anything “wrong” from his point of view, most everybody heard “All partisan blogs are nuts”.

But stupid he is, in either vein, and attacks by those of us who revile his stated views don’t do much to dampen his influence among the voters who are not especially well-versed or keyed in to the political drama that obtains today.
I say we laugh – not among ourselves, as we do so smugly – but out loud in what ever media outlet we can capture. “He’s an idiot! And no one can say otherwise!”

At each spoke there is always someone to shout alarms and dispise those too wise to over-react. This Republic is a lot more resilient than we give it credit for. Yes we have gone far astray… but that’s hardly a new thing for us Americans, is it? By the way, I don’t want to own a hummer, but yes I am quite involved in raising a family, and all the time and money pressures that entails… but I do take time to fight extremism and negativity where I see it, and to volunteer in my community… and yes, I do wish peace for humanity, peace to build our families and communities, and in that desire, shared by millions of my countrymen, is the strength and resilience of this nation.

Now if you have cable MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, “THE COMEDY CHANNEL-Daily Show,Colbert Report” I’ve given you eight channels to freaking choose from. Yet you sit there and bitch and complain about one other channel that puts forth a different view than yours?!

I think “Humanist” is right in saying your just rooting for your team. It makes me sick that if Hilary Clinton is president in ‘08 that we will be having over 20 years of “BUSH” and “CLINTONS”! Is this a Democracy or a Bipolar Monarchy! I think that is more distrubing than “one man and one channel”. How can you trust either side?! Is one really better than the other?! I think not! They all are career politicians not looking out for you or me! They are sycophants! Sure there are exceptions. I think few and far between.

Do what “Humanist” said go out and do something about it make a difference stop sitting on your ass and bitching on some blog. Do your civic duty. Run for some postion anywhere on our many rungs of government. So many people sit back and do nothing yet expect everything to be done for them. You get what you give.

You worry about Bill O’reilly’s gernade. Yet where is your out cry about Kim Jong-il’s lil gernade “NUKE”? How about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stating he’s going to wipe Isreal off the face of the map. How about Darfur?! Yet Billy boys comments are more demanding of your time right? Please link me to the blogs that your sitting there spending your time explaining whats wrong in those situations, or are they all Bill’s and Fox news’s fault?

There is so much more in life that is more important than “one man and one channel” that seems to be the focus of so much hatred. If you dont like that channel don’t watch it. How hard is that? It’s not like it is the only channel we can watch. I could understand if everyones tv has only this channel. I could understand were that would get sickening. Yet in this day and age with so many things to choose from you would rather sit there and complain about this “one man and this one channel“. Simply Amazzziinnngggggggg.

    “Section 8″

Just so you know – most of us are capable of multi-tasking.

It is possible to perform our ‘civic duties’ and spend some time reading and posting blogs on this site as well.

I am sure you can imagine this.

As far as your O’Reilly argument is concerned – it is pretty weak. O’Reilly frequently says things that are stupid enough to warrant discussion. He is a political operative pretending to be a journalist. That may be a “just turn the channel” issue for you, but it is more than that to me and many others.

And with all due respect, it is a bit simple minded of you to assume that his “grenade” comment is the most important thing on our minds just because we said that his comment pissed us off.

Everyone has been on a highway where you see an overly aggressive driver cut off another driver.

You say to the person in the car with you “Wow – did you see that jackass ? What an idiot.” And then you go about taking care of more important things.

Well in this case – the idiot is O’Reilly. And, unfortunately, he’ll probably say something stupid in a day or two. If it is really offensive – people will speak their minds. And then they will tend to other things.

I would think that this is easy enough for you to imagine.

Last, you said ” Is one really better than the other?! I think not!”

This is similiar to what Ralph Nader said during the 2000 election about Gore and Bush.

If the electoral vote reflected the popular vote, Gore would be president.

Which means – by your logic – with Gore as president, everything that happened over the past 6 years under Bush would’ve happened under Gore.

“Section 8″ – you cannot be serious …

  184. America's Patriot says:

I don’t know if anybody’s realized it but there’s a deeper subtext to the O’Reilly factor piece.

When O’Reilly’s guests are complaining that there’s “too much vitriol” on the web from both the left and right blogosphere and demonizing people as “hired guns”, in the subtext they’re advocating the regulation of free speech on the web.

    If the corporations and corrupt politicians have their way, Internet 2;

    http://www.internet2.edu/

will replace this internet and will will be as tightly regulated as Google is in China, which is why we must elect officials(regardless of party affiliation) who will protect the internet from speech regulation via outright censorship by government or corporations or through a deliberate degradation of the web by stopping maintenance of the backbones which route all of the traffic on the net.

The mainstream media, their corporate controllers and government are losing their psychological and political power over the populace which is why they will use any pretext including terrorists on the net, pornographers, predators, scammers, file sharers and hackers to shut us all up.

    We will NEVER shut up.

[...] Bill O’Reilly again decries Blogs: His guest said “LARRY SABATO: Well, we both have experienced this. The blogs on left and right, and I mean way left and way right, the things they come up with daily, the vitriol, the vile nature of the comments. And then they have hundreds and hundreds of people e-mailing.” Bill said “I’d go in there [to the blog sites I assume] with a hand grenade.” At first I thought Sabato was talking about CNN- the descriptions threw me. [...] For some reason, deranged neocon attack dog Bill O’Reilly doesn’t like bloggers. In fact, the notorious chickenhawk dislikes bloggers so much that he wants to blow them up! In an exchange with political strategist Larry Sabato, O’Reilly said this: I think – I have to say President Bush has a much healthier attitude toward this [criticism in the blogosphere] than I do. Because if I can get away with it, boy, I’d go in with a hand grenade.–Think Progress [...]

  192. Solipsy says:

go in there? He means, like, go in “the tubes” that comprise the “internets”? What, crawl past the magic little men that make the processors go “vroom, vroom”, find those nasty bloggers and blow ‘em sky-high in the grand tradition of the First Amendment?

I know for a fact that MicroSoft has included anti-grenade-infiltration technology in Windows. I know that for a fact because I did ask a giraffe.

Ya know, most days, snarkin’ the Billster is like shootin’ the same great big dead fish in the same tiny bullet-riddled, dry little barrel. *sigh* As others have pointed out, however, more important work is yet to be done.

One last though, though: despite the fastidious research demonstrated by this comment:

I know that for a fact because I did ask around.

One must still boggle at the lengths necessary to support the OPPOSITE of this one:

I know for a fact that President Bush doesn’t know what’s going on in the Internet.

I have to say after reading this for the first time that you guys would be out of place in West Texas where in my town people overwhealmingly(90%) support the War and have a job and can get a University level education if they desire. In my view that is the case in most of fly over America .It is a good thing that the only polls that count are the elections and we elect people to jobs we agree with most of the time—-take your left wing pills and enjoy your hobby.
