said that it is untenable for the the U.S. to stay the course. Wayne White, who was the head of the State Department’s Iraq intelligence section until last year, told the BBC: “The effort can’t be sustained over the long haul, and so we can’t stay a course, I think, that requires years and years more.” He added, “We’re not winning. It’s apparent.”
Not without reinstituting the real draft instead of this “backdoor draft”…..where will all the military come from??
October 22nd, 2006 at 6:18 pmyes, but…
the ship of fools sails on…
And, yes, I DO take it personally
October 22nd, 2006 at 6:28 pmThis thing is so over. It’s beyond comprehension that we got to this point. Bush is by far the worst Commander in Chief this country has ever experienced. Frontline had an excellent episode on the Lost Year in Iraq. I have TIVO so I would just pause and cuss for about 15 to 20 minutes then resume play, pause it and cuss then resume play. This level of incompetence is Criminal.
October 22nd, 2006 at 6:36 pmGeorge could meet with Barney the Dog and GOD himself and the man would still be too stubborn to change his mind, he has been raised as a know-it-all little shit, and to this day he thinks he is a know-idt-all little shit, no amount of generals or public opinion will ever change the deciders [know-it-all] mind, the decider is not democratic, nor does he think democratically. The spoiled little shit doesn’t care what anyone thinks even if he were the last person on earth, who had destroyed the earth and all mankind upon it the little shit would still never admit to screwing up.
October 22nd, 2006 at 6:38 pmWhite: “…we can’t stay a course…” – - Pfffft, I never said we would or could.
October 22nd, 2006 at 6:45 pmThe whole TRUTH will come out when I bring Dick Cheney to his knees.
October 22nd, 2006 at 6:46 pm“He added, ‘We’re not winning. It’s apparent.’”
It’s apparent to those who don’t play follow the leader.
October 22nd, 2006 at 6:46 pmBush has been described as a megalolmaniac which explains his belief that he is the “decider” and that he is the only one that knows what is right for this nation and the world. The truth is, Bush is not the decider. He is “the Destroyer”… he destroys everything he touches and refuses to take responsibility for his actions. Unfortunately, the world suffers because of his inflated sense of self importance. In his mind, the whole world is his enemy.
October 22nd, 2006 at 6:48 pm#8 – apologies for the mispelling – megalomaniac.
October 22nd, 2006 at 6:51 pm#8: “megalolmaniac” – - I think you’ve coined a new word for the online laughing version. Very inadvertently Colbertian of you. (That word could describe some trolls around here too.)
October 22nd, 2006 at 7:01 pm#10 Badmoodman,
Thank you for the compliment.
October 22nd, 2006 at 7:04 pmBadmoodman – think you coined a new word too, Colbertian.
October 22nd, 2006 at 7:06 pmAnd yet “Stay the Course” is still #5 on the “Top 10 GOP Sound Bites List.”
October 22nd, 2006 at 7:14 pmNot good enough. The GOP and this administration said they would create a democratic Iraq, which in turn would lead to democratic reforms across the Middle East. They don’t have the option of failure. They had damn well better figure out a way of doing what they said they were going to do. The American taxpayers are spending $2 billion a week to fund this effort and we certainly expect to see results. Stay the course, change tactics, or outsource it for all I care. Just get the job done like you were elected to do. If you can’t, then admit you’re a bunch of failures and frauds and get the hell out. And don’t expect me to ever vote for a Republican again for anything.
October 22nd, 2006 at 7:20 pm“Not good enough. The GOP and this administration said they would create a democratic Iraq…” – - Well, Iraq doesn’t have habeas corpus either, so…
October 22nd, 2006 at 7:35 pmWhy is the WH covering up the 300 dead American Soldiers from the Forward Base Falcon munitions attack and why is MSM not demanding answers??!!!!
COVER UP OF CRIMINAL PROPORTIONS.
Waiting till after the elections?

October 22nd, 2006 at 7:54 pmWhen I was in the benefits processing business, the SS Death Index was supposed to be valid no later than two days before the end of the month with a correction sent out on the final day (so banks can stop payment). I got no hits on the three hundred based on a death in October 2006. That is not to say that the administration is sitting on the data. Also, it would cost only about $20 mill per mo. to keep paying these people.
October 22nd, 2006 at 8:53 pmThe last edition was #49. You know what that means. Assclowns of the Week #50: The Golden Edition is up. This time around, the Jurassic One goes for broke and pillories not ten, not fifteen, not twenty but the top twenty-five assclowns of the past week (alright, week and a half, but I’ve been busy, lately).
Considering the sheer bulk of material, only 25-14 are featured tonight, with 13-1 making their appearance tomorrow. So be there or be Republican.
October 22nd, 2006 at 9:12 pmSince there wil never be a story about Lamont / Lieberman here on TP, I thought I’d link an intriguing tidbit:
October 22nd, 2006 at 9:31 pmLamont Questions Lieberman’s Campaign Spending
$375,000 petty cash? Now that’s what I call petty cash!
The last job I had, had a $25 petty cash fund — cheapos.
October 22nd, 2006 at 9:39 pm#16, YourConscience,
You may want to reread your tbrnews story. Apparently there were 300 casualties, not 300 deaths. Casualties are not necessarily deaths. In fact, the article explicitly mentions that there were no deaths. Jut wanted to clear that up. If they were deaths, I’m pretty sure they couldn’t keep them quiet.
I clicked on your link with interest because I had seen that story briefly reported on the news…and then, it disappeared.
Now, it disgusts me that this received almost zero media coverage, but I can’t honestly say I’m surprised. If the MSM covered Bush’s disasters like they covered Clinton’s sexual escapades….Bush wouldn’t have been able to steal a 2nd term.
October 22nd, 2006 at 9:41 pmReally, Zooey!
I’d be “Livin’ La Vida Loca” on that!
Also, doesn’t he (Lieberman) remind you of “Mr. Limpett?”
You know, that Don Knotts movie?
Just my observation. Don’t know if anyone else has mentioned it…
October 22nd, 2006 at 9:54 pmMr Limpett!
OMG! I haven’t seen that since I was a kid! Lieberman is the very embodiment of Mr Limpett. Too funny…
October 22nd, 2006 at 9:56 pmI knew you’d see that!
:)
October 22nd, 2006 at 10:03 pmHave you seen Jon Stewart’s “Lieberman?” Hilarious.
October 22nd, 2006 at 10:10 pmNo, I haven’t, Zooey.
October 22nd, 2006 at 10:21 pmI usually catch the morning rerun.
#16,
I’ve been trying to dig up something regarding Forward Base Falcon and things just don’t make sense.
The original reports indicate 2-3 injured from a major ammo depot disaster. That seems incredulous. I followed another link which listed some 300 names, yet most of those names don’t come up on a google search. Granted the DoD has the ability to keep a tight lid on the media, but they aren’t so good as to erase every trace of nearly these men from the internet, are they? (note: I haven’t tried a white pages search yet)
However, it must be noted that a major U.S. Base was destroyed on October 10-11 and after initial reports, Corporate Media has been silenced.
October 22nd, 2006 at 11:06 pm…Media has been silenced.

That’s a terrifying statement, and we live it everyday.

What do you mean?
October 22nd, 2006 at 11:57 pmHey Truth,
On a thread below, GWB says he’s never been about “staying the course.” Pffft.
October 22nd, 2006 at 11:59 pmIt’s way past time to pull the troops out of Iraq! All the bases should be turned over to the Iraqi Army and the embassy under construction blown up, because it is a waste of money!
October 23rd, 2006 at 5:27 amPres. Bush has announced that as long as he is president, the US will never leave Iraq, so that is another reason to impeach him so the occupation can come to an end!

October 20, 2006, 12:37 PM (GMT+02:00)
Tuesday, Oct. 17, the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group steamed into the Persian Gulf to join the US naval, air and marine concentration piling up opposite Iran’s shores. It consists of the amphibious transport dock USS Nashville, the guided-missile destroyers USS Cole and USS Bulkeley, the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea, the attack submarine USS Albuquerque, and the dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island.
The Iwo Jima group is now cruising 60 km from Kuwait off Iran’s coast. As DEBKAfile and DEBKA-Net-Weekly reported exclusively two weeks ago, three US naval task forces will be in place opposite Iran in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea by October 21. The other two are the USS Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group and the USS Enterprise Strike Group.

Israel must prepare for Iran to push the button – chief of staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz Friday
October 21, 2006, 8:12 PM (GMT+02:00)
Iranian president said earlier there is no reason for Israel “the greatest insult to human dignity†to exist and it would soon disappear.
Halutz also warned Israel to prepare for possible war with Syria, whose missile threat to Israel’s population is similar to that of Hizballah.
Another of his outrageous speeches was delivered Friday to a pro-Palestinian rally marking the Islami Republic’s “al Qods Day†(Jerusalem Liberation Day). In further inflammatory remarks, Ahmadinejad said “the world knows the US and Britain are enemies of the Iranian nation.†He warned European nations not to harm Iran, saying that if anger in the region boiled over, Europe would get hurt because of its support for Israel. “Europe must distance itself from Israel at once. That is Iran’s ultimatum. “He went on to brand the UN Security Council and its decisions “illegitimate.â€
DEBKAfile adds: These words amounted to an Iranian threat of harm to the European UN forces deployed in Lebanon unless they left forthwith.
His harsh words followed two events: one, the Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert’s statement in Moscow this week after he met with Russian leaders: “They need to fear that something that they do not want to happen will happen. In no case, Olmert stressed, “will we reconcile with nuclear arms in Iranian hands. There is no margin for error here.â€
THE OTHER EVENT WAS THE ARRIVAL IN THE PERSIAN GULF OF THE GIANT US CARRIER IWO JIMA WITH ITS EXPEDITIONARY STRIKE GROUP TO JOIN THE AMERICAN NAVAL, AIR AND MARINE MIGHT PILING UP OPPOSITE IRAN’S SHORES.

Those casualty figures of thousands for an ammo dump fireworks show are crazy stupid. But when the retreat out of Baghdad begins then numbers like that will probably be low end. Figure that for the 140,000 troops in Iraq only 10,000 to 15,000 thousand of them go outside the wire to fight the rest are REMF’s, which means when the retreat out of Iraq begins the insurgents will have what amounts to a herd of three legged Wildebeasts to prey upon. Think of all those Private Susies in the ANG captured like dirty, jammed M-16 Jessica Lynch paraded around as captured war trophies. That is why James Baker is in Iraq to negotiate a retreat out of the country, he will fail of course, and this will make the Bataan Death March look like a stroll.
Another Disastrous Coverup Forward Base Falcon Disaster
What I meant is that there have been no reports of MIA’s or POW’s for the duration of the current Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. That seems incredible to me. My mistake for not being clear about the point I was trying to make.
——–If these casuality numbers are correct, and they likely are, then members of this government deserve to be confronted with the results of this crime and summarily tried and punished like the criminals they are.
—–> I too think the numbers could be much higher. What really made me shiver inside was when I read somewhere: ”…….That is the cost of doing business.” In other words,
we are totally expendible… of course we already knew that.
“When a man who is honestly mistaken hears the truth, he will either quit being mistaken or cease to be honest.”
—-Increased numbers of dead and wounded this month, could be a delay in announcing those killed and wounded from Falcon. Peace.
http://www.bringemhome.org/ -A flag displayed upside-down is recognized as an international sign of distress. Like the inverted flag, our upside-down ribbon symbolizes a state of distress. Our military is in distress. Our country is in distress. Our world is in distress. The war is a lie. The reasons for the war are lies. George Bush says, “Bring ‘em on”. We say, Bring ‘em Home.
–What also seems remarkable to me is that there are no reports of American or coalition MIA’s or POW’s. The Straussian neoconmen know that controlling all the information about casualties, and/or the missing or captured, is a pre-requisite for the continuation of their mad quest of hegemony. If or when their house of cards comes tumbling down, the mainstream media that has also been complicit in the lies and cover-ups of the neoconmen deserve to be buried in the rubble with their masters.

Hey qa, The kavkazcenter, is that a Russian website?
October 23rd, 2006 at 8:10 amA kid from our little town was killed over the weekend in Iraq. What do you say to the people that knew and loved him? We need to get out now, screw “stay the course”. The blame for this debacle lies square on the shoulders of Bush and the oil companies. Not terrorist, not Osama, not Sadam, but an arrogant little puppet….
October 23rd, 2006 at 8:46 amWatch Democracy Now. The administration is going around the middle east trying to find a someone, a general…anyone they can bring in to prop up the government of Iraq. Also they want to split up the country. The Iraqis DO NOT WANT THIS. They want us to leave so they can heal. Is that too much to ask? Haven’t we done enough damage?
BTW, the honoring the dead BS is beyond the pale.
October 23rd, 2006 at 9:15 amAnyone want to put odds on how long it takes the trolls to claim this is just another disgruntled staffer who got fired. Why is it everyone that leaves the Bush White House says it’s a mess? Gee, maybe it’s true.
