America’s founders knew all too well how war appeals to the vanity of rulers and their thirst for glory. That’s why they took care to deny presidents the kingly privilege of making war at their own discretion.

But after 9/11 President Bush, with obvious relish, declared himself a “war president.” And he kept the nation focused on martial matters by morphing the pursuit of Al Qaeda into a war against Saddam Hussein.

In November 2002, Helen Thomas, the veteran White House correspondent, told an audience, “I have never covered a president who actually wanted to go to war” – but she made it clear that Mr. Bush was the exception. And she was right.

Evil so any steps necessarys are justified. Lies, reliance on dreams, denial of reality, character assisanation, the waste of life, waste of horrendous sums of money. Who knows what Bush talks to Laura about but most likely tells Laura ‘I must spread American values. American must be the beacon’. Bush is publicly a moral cretin but most likley a decent father and husband. Bush is on a neo-con morality mountain peak compared to thoise Bush assocaties with. . The same goes for Cheney and Rumsfeld. A lot of neo-cons are both publicly and privately immoral. Black humor is well served by the pretensions to morality that the neo-cons have.

I’d be off my game, too, if the only things separating me from a lifetime in the penitentiary – for looting the US treasury, lying under oath to congress, doctoring military intelligence to mislead a nation and a level of incompetence bordering on treason -were a handful of house and senate seats occupied by fat republican asses…temporarily occupied…very temporarily.

Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld should have read the books by Caro on Lyndon Johnson. Johnson concluded that the US would win in Vietnam because he Lyndon Johnson had the biggest cojones on earth. Cheney Rumsfeld and Bush have concluded likewise with Iraq. The problem is that Johnson had bigger cojones that the current troiqa and Vietnam was a defeat. Clearly there is a problem with the deduction. The cojones best have some connection to the brain.

Why doesn’t the media get it? The truth is “Stay the course” and “Cut and run” have always been slogans. Slogans, nothing more. Slogans designed to confound critics. And they worked, as catch phrases. Now they’re starting to work, against the Republicans who used it. Bush and Rumsfeld and Cheney have finally decided they need to change what they’re doing, so “Stay the course” and its parallel “Cut and run” aren’t applicable any more. They want to lower the troop level and set a timetable, only they can’t admit it because good people like Murtha and the independent generals wanted this objective all along. Bush & Co. cannot admit they were wrong, because to do so would mean it was a stupid war, and needless people died. So you get the mixed messages until Rove can come up with something else that makes a good new slogan. Got it?
