The Center for American Progress Action Fund has joined forces with Clear Channel Radio, Jones Radio Networks and Media Syndication Services to launch a search for the next great progressive talk show host.
Over the next three weeks, one at-large winner from the website TalkProgress.com, along with local winners from participating Clear Channel Progressive Talk stations across the country, will be narrowed to two finalists who will travel to Washington, DC for the live finals at the Center for American Progress Action Fund.
Right now, voting is open in the online at-large contest at TalkProgress.com. You can vote to send one of the ten online finalists to the nationals.
Progressive Talk is a strong and growing radio format. Great hosts like Al Franken, Ed Schultz, Bill Press and Stephanie Miller have pioneered the format and now this contest is looking for the next great host.

You definitely need someone better than the “nails on the chalkboard” rantings of those on Air America.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:48 pmIs this like ‘American Idol’? Ok, then I want Al Franken but only if wears that outfit that the Ohio GOP framed him in.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:54 pmSam Sedar!!
October 26th, 2006 at 2:54 pmLOL !
Come on - do you really believe Air America will be around long enough to showcase another star????
Wait!
They have so many now. Yea, right - so shrill, they rant, they rave and they’re not funny! Out of the whole loser bunch, Ed Schultz is the best - Randy what’s her face is the worse. That woman: menopasal, stuck in a sixties mind warp and shrill as a sharpie. Wow.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:55 pmJKelly,
October 26th, 2006 at 3:00 pmone quick question…what is “menopasal”? Is that some sort of Mesopotamian term I’m not aware of? Greek mythology,. p’haps?
Just askin’!
Air America is only lacking Joe Piscapo to fill out their no-talent line-up. I couldn’t have assembled a team more poised to kill the progressive movement than those screaming banshees.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:01 pmLike we need another talk radio show. It’s all entertainment, not substance, reporting, dialog or information, except perhaps a lesson on how NOT to act. If you want to do something constuctive, let’s vote the ones that are on now OFF the air.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:03 pmDon’t forget Randi Rhodes. She puts more passion and energy into each broadcast than anyone!
October 26th, 2006 at 3:04 pmI’d like to take this opportunity to nominate Santo Gnede for the next great Progressive Talk show host, Thank You.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:05 pmAt least you guys are going with Clear Channel instead of DeadAir America.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:05 pmMike Malloy!
let’s stuff the voting box!
We are thrilled to announce that Mike will return to the airwaves Monday October 30th at 9PM ET, thanks to the new Nova M Radio Network!
We are very excited about this new opportunity to get behind a mic before the November elections. We are confident that many of our former stations will soon pick up the program and that satellite and Internet radio listeners will also be able to hear the Malloy show from coast to coast and around the world!
Click the “Listen” link on the left of this page for inforamtion about Internet streaming. If you want to hear the Malloy show in your city, by all means contact your local station and ask for it!
We cannot express how overwhelemd we have been with your kind, supportive email, letters, petitions, original artwork, poetry and ballads (!) and other efforts on our behalf. We appreciate each and every one of you more than you’ll ever know.
As for other news, read this article about Mike in Creative Loafing and this one in Op Ed News.
Once again, thank you all so very much for all you have done. Now, lets work together to TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK from the grimy and fetid clutches of the Flying Monkey Right!!!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2006 at 3:12 pmMike Malloy, is now to be found here starting on the 30th, cool… http://www.novamradio.com/ … Thom Hartmann is super intelligent, non-shrill, and repectful.. and he’s on the correct side.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:13 pmalong with local winners from participating Clear Channel Progressive Talk stations across the country
If that doesn’t make your eyebrows shoot up into your hairline, you don’t know enough about Clear Channel.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:14 pmDoes anyone even know what this is supposed to mean?
October 26th, 2006 at 3:18 pmRush and truth in the same sentence never thought I would see that!
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Hey, Jason. You and Roger both sound exactly alike. You guys must be rehearsing for November the 8th, huh?
October 26th, 2006 at 3:25 pmbtru,
You don’t add anything to these threads with your rants. Other posters make far more interesting and intelligent comments.
Have you prepared your rants for your losses on Nov. 7?

Don’t forget that W. blew up a couple of businesses in his career!
And look at him now! On the verge of blowing up the US!
This used to be a great country….
October 26th, 2006 at 3:32 pmJason+M.+Hendler — I concur — wish some posters would contribute more cogent remarks & leave the venom home.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:37 pmJason, I KNEW you were MENTALLY CHALLENGED when I read your MySpace HATE RHETORIC against WOMEN…
a 39 year old has a site on MySpace?
October 26th, 2006 at 3:40 pmOkay, that’s creepy
Clear Channel, Fox, all the same thing, an attempt to control free speech by the Reichwing. Why a Clear Channel progressive talkshow would have all of the autheticity of faux librul Alan Coombs on Fox.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:45 pmJason has a MySpace……I wonder if he ever leaves his bedroom…..I mean not only to take out the garbage when his mom yells at him.

Comment by Grandpa
I was thinking the same thing. They’ll probably have Joe Lieberman as a host for four hours.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:48 pmDon’t go picking on Rush now. It’s not nice to make fun of the mentally ill.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:53 pmPhuck Clear Channel!!!
October 26th, 2006 at 3:53 pmFormer Rep. Mark Foley checked himself into the Sierra Tucson Treatment Center in Arizona two days after he resigned from Congress in disgrace!
October 26th, 2006 at 4:01 pmA typical 30-day inpatient program costs about $30,000.
Hey!
That’s the same place
Rush Limbaugh
hangs out at!

Yeah, but nobody was listening.
Instead, we should start a Dead Pool on how long before the new liberal talk network will go bankrupt. Shouldn’t take too long. If you saw the Air America ratings, it was amazing they lasted that long.
October 26th, 2006 at 6:40 pmBRING BACK “MORNING SEDITION” WITH MARC MARON AND MARK RILEY! BEST LIBERAL RADIO PROGRAM EVER!
October 26th, 2006 at 9:13 pmI vote for Stephanie Miller! It’s just that she brings levity to this craziness. Neck-to-neck with Ed Schultz and Randi Rhodes. They do their homework.
October 26th, 2006 at 9:25 pmAnd I even listen to Rush and Savage as well, but compared to Rhodes and Schultz they are more reactionary and less fact-based. Right wing radio hosts seem more like they’re trying to get under the emotional basis whereas progressive radio tends to take a factual look at things.
October 26th, 2006 at 9:29 pmI too miss Morning Sedition, but for now, I’m content with Sam Seder.
Go Sam Seder!

October 26th, 2006 at 10:22 pmI will go on the radio > vote for me > I would love to kick GOP asses > lol.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:31 amEd Schultz as a judge for this? You have to be kidding me. This phony and his continually “hate Republicans” bent out of shape show producer cannot punch their way out of a paper bag much less run a successful talk radio show.
What a laugh.
October 27th, 2006 at 10:40 amHow ridiculous. Running a contest for a new liberal talk show host.
What’s the matter? Not a single one of the dozens you have tried so far including Bill Press have an audience so you think a CONTEST is going to get someobody that an audience would listen to?
Your problem is YOUR SUBJECT MATTER. Nobody wants to listen to screaming arrogant elitest ANGRY people rant and rave BS on the radio.
October 27th, 2006 at 10:44 amHEHAW HEHAW HEHAW!
A RADIO TALK SHOW LOSER FROM NORTH DAKOTA IS JUDGING THIS!
HOW MANY RADIO STATIONS IS “BIG EDDIE” DOWN TO NOW?
ANOTHER 6 MONTHS AND HE WON’T HAVE ANY STATIONS LEFT.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:54 pmBS
October 27th, 2006 at 1:54 pmJust make sure you send in a substantial dontion when you vote!!….they’ll need all the financial help they can get.
October 27th, 2006 at 5:47 pmYeah, Air America was a pioneer in setting the fastest radio network to ever declare bankruptcy record.
October 30th, 2006 at 3:46 pmWhy Clear Channel is involved with anything that involves progressive radio is beyond me. Boo-she baby, boo-she! That company has a history of supporting the Bush administration and campaign support. I guess money gets you anything, huh? What crap!
November 1st, 2006 at 12:31 pm[…] You voted in the online contest, and yesterday it came down to the final two contestants. The judges picked “Radical” Russ Belville from KPOJ in Portland, OR to be the Next Progressive Talk Radio Star. […]
