A new study of Michael J. Fox’s stem cell ad shows “support for stem cell research increased from 78% prior to viewing the ad, to 83% after viewing the ad. Support among Democrats increased from 89% to 93%, support among Republicans increased from 66% to 68% and support among Independents increased from 80% to 87% after viewing the ad.”
Thank you Michael J. Fox! You are a great person and a great American. I just hope that you will not be another victim of ugly, stupid christian dogma.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:01 pmWell, it proves one thing…. Bush certainly doesn’t lead from consensus. He never would have voted against anything that popular if he did.
Of course he doesn’t use his brain either, but at least he stands by his idiocy. I can’t deny that.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:04 pmWhen Rust opened up his ignorant pie-hole support went up another 5%.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:04 pmBless MJF for his courage and spunk and honesty.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:05 pmI don’t have the energy to curse Limboob one more time.
I’d like to know how Rush’s approval ratings were affected. Tool.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:07 pmThank you, Rush Limbaugh for all the free press. Please keep running your fat, drug-addled mouth.
Now, could you go to Ohio and campaign against Tammy Duckworth? I’m sure you have plenty of material on people in wheelchairs.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:08 pmOf course people get concerned. You tell lies and then ask people what they think. They are assuming you are not lying. How many ways do you have to say it is not against stem cell research. Just embryonic stem cell research. Fox left that very key word out (as is often done). I personally don’t care either way, I just hate it when lies are told.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:08 pmI’m an insufferable moron. Please forgive me.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:11 pmKiki: I’d like to know how Rush’s approval ratings were affected. – - Approval, as in number of listeners? (Nothing else matters.) I’m sure he got a big boost by pandering to the basest of his base.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:14 pmHappy Guy,
So what do you propose to do with all the embryonic stem cells cells that are available at fertility clinics? Throw them out with the trash….oh wait they already do that.
And don’t you hate that Republican ad that states that this with make it Constitutional right to advance human cloning. I mean leaving out embryonic is one thing but down right lying is another.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:16 pm#8 – Why should that make a difference? The blastocysts are still getting incinerated. No one in the WH cares about “saving embryos.” That’s not why Bush used his one and only veto. He had to protect his friends in big pharma.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:18 pmSpudge you beat me to it…but here it is again…
Take that, Rush Limpballs!!
October 26th, 2006 at 2:18 pmAn effective ad made even more effective by that stupidity from Rush Limbaugh. Might someone ask if Rush is back to taking his pills?
October 26th, 2006 at 2:26 pmAnd the ratings of those who mocked him went from -34% to -47%
October 26th, 2006 at 2:29 pmHappy Guy, a thought experiment for you: a fertility clinic is burning, there is a baby in a crib inside the lab, but there are also 100,000 blastocysts being held there in a freezer. You don’t have much time before the clinic burns down. Do you save the baby or the 100,000 blastocysts? Take your time. It’s not a trick question.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:32 pmIt gives a whole new meaning to “OUTFOXED!)
w00t!
Goper’s Lament (Hard To Be A Republican)
October 26th, 2006 at 2:34 pm#8 Happy Guy
And the GOP tells lies every time they start trying to tie stem cell research to cloning. Great big whopping lies. From the Missouri initiative that’s up for a vote:
(1) No person may clone or attempt to clone a human being.
By the way, the Missouri stem cell initiative specifically mentions embryonic stem cell research. Check it out:

October 26th, 2006 at 2:34 pmThanks, GOP. Great shooting! Lately, every time you take aim at the Democrats you end up blowing your feet off.
October 26th, 2006 at 2:37 pmGoes to show how much power entertainers, that we the people raise to their status, can have on a a people.
Frankly, I’m dismayed and sorrowful at the fact that we have no non-political public heros fighting for the public and raising awareness. WhereTF was Snoop dog when his people needed him in New Orleans? Why wasn’t he rising up to the media? Why are Angelina and Brad MIA? These are the people that can awaken the American psyche, and they themselves are asleep.
Instead we have Snipes outrunning the IRS… JEESH!
Somebody bring back Lenin! BRING BACK LENIN!
October 26th, 2006 at 2:51 pmecho..Spugeboy…YES!…well scumbaugh, you really know how to kill republican voters, keep up the good work. Keep FAKING your act as a HUMAN BEING also.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:06 pmChances are the Comedian Rush Limbaugh won’t find this so funny. What I find amusing is the fact that Rush cannot understand why anyone would support federally funded stem-cell research.
He also cannot understand why everyone without health insurance is worried about it and looking to the government to solve the problem.
He also cannot understand why on earth the minimum wage should be raised after nine years.
If anyone sees Rush on out on the street, give him a big old bear hug. It’s tough when you do not understand. Tell him that Nancy Pelosi will make it all better. Nancy will help Rush to understand.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:13 pm#22, Nope just have folks like Karl “the Mailman” Malone using his own resources to actually get out there and help folks. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-09-29-malone-katrina_x.htm
What was your point again?
October 26th, 2006 at 3:44 pmHey Rush,
October 26th, 2006 at 3:47 pmKnow any quarterbacks that are purely overrated because of their skin color?
Made any good jokes about dogs (adolescent girls) in the White House?
Made any trips to the Dominican Republican with someone else’s bottle of #30 count Viagra, just to return with #29?
Hey, how about any broadcasts spewing your beliefs that all drug users should be locked up, for eternity (Dr.Shoppers for Oxycontin not withstanding, of course)
And don’t you hate that Republican ad that states that this with make it Constitutional right to advance human cloning. I mean leaving out embryonic is one thing but down right lying is another.
Comment by dlet — October 26, 2006 @ 2:16 pm
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t republicans scramble to make sure this was true? That if any vote was going to be done on a unabated stem cell research bill, there would be a human cloning referendum attached to kill the whole deal?
Kind of like what they did with the minimum wage and more tax cuts for the richest of the rich.
The Neo-cons don’t have a wide variety of tactics, but they sure can play em over and over.
October 26th, 2006 at 3:54 pmMaybe others have discussed this before, but I’ve been thinking: is it possible that banning stem cell research was pushed as a moral issue not because it has anything to do with embryos or when life begins. Rather, it was framed around morality, but that’s just a shell game. The real beneficiaries are pharmaceutical companies. The medicines they sell for debilitating diseases are very, very expensive, and big PHARMA makes a killing. They want to stave off stem cell research as long as possible, in order to insure big profits for decades to come.
October 26th, 2006 at 4:12 pmWhat kills me is that there are already dead embroys that can be used, when a woman has a miscarragie. I had 4 and given the opportunity to donate them so someone else could maybe live without and illiness, in a heart beat I would have! What I always thought was amaizing is that Rush always thinks he’s right, if you clal the show he just cuts you off and hangs up if you disagree? What’s with that? BUt SHAME on him for his actions abaints Michael J. FOx, apparently he’s never had to deal with the relaities of a loved one and a serious illness
October 26th, 2006 at 4:16 pm30 – Cris,
October 26th, 2006 at 4:31 pmBless you for your losses, but your insight is deep – Bush has no moral basis for his position.
#29 My point exactly.
October 26th, 2006 at 4:32 pmCheers, Fox!
October 26th, 2006 at 4:40 pmThe rise in the ‘independent’ is statistically signficant the others are not. The overall increase (disproportionate to dem and rep increases) resulted from the ‘independent’ category and is only statistically signficant because of that.
No, I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. It’s a GREAT THING. You aren’t going to convince repubs to change their mind once they’ve decided that stem cell research should be illegal.
And the best part, of course, is that the majority of Americans support stem cell research while the majority of politicians do not:)
October 26th, 2006 at 5:05 pm#32–Yep, I see your comment now. Glad to know others feel the same way about the issue.
October 26th, 2006 at 5:16 pm68% of Republicans support stem cell research? Then WTF is with all the anti stuff from their candidates?
October 26th, 2006 at 6:49 pmLet’s hope that the backlach from Limbaugh’s comments bring a few more people to the side of progress.
October 26th, 2006 at 7:25 pmbacklash
October 26th, 2006 at 7:25 pmI agree with you guys that this is likely a greed issue wrapped inside of a morality issue.
October 26th, 2006 at 7:30 pmSome people have blind faith in the propaganda and in their hearts equate this with cloning, but thinking people do not see a problem, moral or otherwise.
Big pharma, however, makes a lot of money every year on people’s illnesses.
