Tracy...I won't speak on Canada, and you don't speak on what you don't know....Texas!
Yes, the Dixie Twits ARE the worst thing to happen to Texas, and the majority of Texans think that way......Natalie Maines is a perfect example of why you should THINK before you speak!
If you love 'em so much......I speak for most Texans when I say....."then take 'em!"

Here is David Letterman's Top 10 List from September/2001, almost two full years before the Dixie Chicks comment. And Natalie Maines was the one who was ostracised? Give me a break.

 Guacamoron
 Loco en el Coco
 El Otro White Meat
 Tex-Mess
 Bandito de la Eleccion
 El Dorque
 Los Er
 No Habla Ingles
 Adios In 2004
 Senorita Cheney

The Chicks are NOT the three most embarassing things to come out of Texas - what is embarrasing are those who re-elected him for a second term.

I guess that it really does not matter what they said but it does matter that they had the freedom to say it. If the Taliban or other terrorist like goverments had their way, the Dixie Chicks would be no longer because they are women and in the terrorist mind women hold no value at all. Funny, how the Dixie Chicks slam something that president Bush is trying to defend.

The Dixie chicks are the THREE most embarrassing things that have ever or will ever come out of Texas. I'm from Texas and they embarrassed me more than George Bush ever could. NBC can do whatever it wants. No body stops them from flapping their moronic lips......so if they can say what they want, the same applies to NBC. It me sick to hear them whine about the consequences of their actions. Didn't they go to school long enough to learn "every action has an equal and opposite etc". I think they teach that by the 5th grade? I Guess they didn't make it that far?

I suppose I am slightly bias, as I have loved the Chicks from the moment there first single hit the airwaves. I am ashamed of George Bush, just as much- if not more than they are- I am ashamed more to say that I am a democratic citizen, and of the same planet as the ignorant people who decided that freedom of speech didn't apply to celebrities such as the Dixie Chicks. I agree that Famous people should not use their celebrity to voice their political opinions, but in this instance this is not the case. Disagreeing with the war, and being ashamed of your country's leader, is nothing to be tight lipped about. People dieing for someones career agenda (Farenheit 9/11) is not just in my eyes. And as time has passed since this "incident" Bush is liked less and less To my understanding people have been disagreeing with the presidential administration for decades- That is democracy. The way that this issue was blown out of proportion- should be politically unacceptable. Its more than losing out on record sales, or sluggish ticket sales- "when a mother will teach her daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger" "shut up and sing or your life will be over" What the hell is that. Bush- don't you think you have enough wars to deal with in your own country. Because if anyone can say that the Dixie Chicks' treatment was well deserved- should go fight the war themselves.

Double Wow.

Last night, I wrote a pretty solid message that apparently "Think Progress" didn't want you to see. Ah, censorship.

You see, I dissected this uproar and laid out the ideological realities surrounding it. I also laid out a couple of serious ("Progressive") hypocrites within the conversation. And I kinda challenged the forum, too.

TutTut. This message will probably also be zapped by the guiding hand of the all-wise "progressive" movement that atavistically (the opposite of progress) wants to wipe out the American model of self-government--and runs this site.

Just in case it doesn't get zapped, the gist is, this conversation is just foam, distracting us from much, much more important issues, like what the corporate-government (read "fascist"--including both major parties and the illiberal "Left") juggernaut (including such "freedom-minded" organizations as Clear Channel Communications) wants to do to the internet: change the hardware protocols in such a way that they can make "favored" sites faster and "unfavored" sites slower or fundamentally squelched. And all of it monitored to the nines by Big Brother.

This is something we can't allow in our allegedly free society (although at least the monitoring already exists, even on regular voice phone lines). Folks, it's up to you and me to keep our government in line and supportive of freedom. Or rather, to put it back in line. If you don't like censorship, this move, currently afoot in Congress, is where you should concentrate your efforts. Not on the silly Chicks and NBC's cowardly response.

I agree with Crystal (#509) 100% - we all say things in the wrong content sometimes. Natalie Maines certainly wasn't the first and won't be the last. I've heard worse commentary on late night TV by Leno, Letterman, etc. and they haven't yet been fed to the media wolves.
I don't even think her comment was such a big deal - and I truly believe had she said it in 2006 or 2007 while Bush's support rating was in the toilet, it wouldn't have even made the newspaper.
This thing has turned into such a huge deal for no reason at all.
I bought 'Shut Up and Sing' the minute it hit the shelves, watched it last night and applaud Natalie, Emily and Martie for staying true to themselves, standing up in the face of adversity no matter what the losses.
I love their music and I love their spirit - and will buy their concert tickets anytime they are in town - that's if I can even get one, last time they were here (after all this BS happened) they SOLD OUT TWO SHOWS.

Dixie Chicks - please don't ever shut up - keep singing & speaking your mind (we all do it) - your true, hard core fans love and support you no matter what.

Surely the point, in a democracy, is not the background of the individual expressing the opinion, but the right of that individual to express that opinion. With the free exchange of information and the open debate that are supposed to characterize democracies, the best ideas, like the cream, rise to the top and make our system of government healthier.

The Dixie Chicks fuss is symptomatic of a much deeper problem. I am dismayed, as a Canadian, at what has happened to the U.S. political system over the past six years. Bush and company are no better than Joseph McCarthy and his ilk, attacking people who dare to challenge their narrow-minded "Dr. Strangelove" madness. Fear is rampant in the land and many citizens have stood silently by while a fascist tide has swept their nation. More evidence that evil triumphs when good people do (or say) nothing.

Get over it. They are just proving to everyone that they have overcome this. We all say things in the wrong content sometimes. I am from Texas, and I have never stoped supporting them. You go girls and keep kicking that ass!

Are the Dixie Chicks politicians? Who cares what they have to say? Nobody owes them a soapbox. Would NBC air my commercial or yours? No.

NBC delivers mindless entertainment, and when they decline to air the babblings of mindless entertainers, it's nothing more than an entertainment issue.

Seriously, people should be more selective of their heroes.

Why does anybody care what the Dixie Chicks do or do not say. Where in the world would they get thier information either way? I just think that they are not smart people period. Does it really matter? I get the impression that none of the three chicks could point out Iraq on a map 15 years ago and now somehow we should really care about their opinion? Why do so many people support or even care what a bunch of air heads would have to say?

Just as they turned their back on America and now Country Western it is absolute the fans will turn their backs on the Dixie Chicks for they owe no allegiance to any thing except a green back dollar bill. Their Commupance eternally awaits all of them. We are ashamed any of them are from Texas, especial sharped tongued Natalie, and Lubbock Texas detests her. They are in great company with the Weinsteins, who made nasty movies on the " Q " for Disney until being fired. Puke. TDTubb

Bravo to NBC for doing the right thing in the face of the abundance of arrogance and pride displayed by the dixie chicks. Apparently their money was good somewhere. The Red Cross turned them down too. They offered a bribe "if" they would support them. They said "NO" too.
