Lynne Cheney repeatedly attacked CNN for having a liberal bias during a fiery and combative appearance today on the Situation Room.
Cheney said a CNN special that aired yesterday was a “terrible distortion of both the president and the vice president’s position on many issues,” in part because CNN used the phrase “domestic surveillance” to describe the so-called “Terrorist Surveillance Program.” When Wolf Blitzer pointed out that some individuals have been arrested and interrogated despite having no ties to terrorism, Cheney warned, “I think that you might be a little careful” declaring someone has “clean hands.”
Later, Cheney criticized Virginia Senate candidate Jim Webb for including sexually explicit material in his novels. Asked whether her own novel Sisters had “lesbian characters,” Cheney said, “no, not necessarily. This description is a lie. I’ll stand on that.” In fact, her novel did contain multiple scenes describing a lesbian love affair.
Repeatedly, Cheney asked Wolf Blitzer to end his line of questioning and about her new children’s book.

CHENEY: You know, I understand your point. It’s kind of the point of a lot of people right now, to try to distort the administration’s position, and if you really want to talk about that, I watched the program on CNN last night, which I though — it’s your 2006 voter program, which I thought was a terrible distortion of both the president and the vice president’s position on many issues. It seemed almost straight out of Democratic talking points using phrasing like “domestic surveillance.”
[...]
CHENEY: You know, I think that you might be a little careful before you declare this as a person with clean hands.
BLITZER: You’re referring to the CNN “BROKEN GOVERNMENT” special.
CHENEY: I certainly am.
BLITZER: This was the one that John King reported on last night.
CHENEY: Well, you know, right there, Wolf, “BROKEN GOVERNMENT.” Now, what kind of stance is that? Here we are. We’re a country where we have been mightily challenged over the past six years. We’ve been through 9/11. We’ve been through Katrina. The president and the vice president inherited a recession. We’re a country where the economy is healthy. That’s not broken. This government has acted very well.
[...]
CHENEY: Well, all right, Wolf. I’m here to talk about my book, but if you want to talk about distortion…
BLITZER: We’ll talk about your book.
CHENEY: Well, right, but what is CNN doing running terrorist tapes of terrorists shooting Americans? I mean, I saw Duncan Hunter ask you a very good question and you didn’t answer it. Do you want us to win?
BLITZER: The answer is, of course, we want the United States to win. We are Americans. There’s no doubt about that. Do you think we want terrorists to win?
CHENEY: Then why are you running terrorist propaganda?
BLITZER: With all due respect — with all due respect, this is not terrorist propaganda.
CHENEY: Oh, Wolf.
BLITZER: This is reporting the news.
[...]
CHENEY: Now, do you promise, Wolf, that we’re going to talk about my book?
BLITZER: I do promise.
CHENEY: Because this seems to be a mighty long trip around the merry-go-round.
BLITZER: I want you to — this was in the news today and your name has come up, so that’s why we’re talking about it.
[...]
BLITZER: Here’s what the Democratic Party put out today, the Democratic Congressional — Senatorial Campaign Committee: “Lynne Cheney’s book featured brothels and attempted rape. In 1981, Vice
President Dick Cheney’s wife, Lynne, wrote a book called “Sisters”, which featured a lesbian love affair, brothels and attempted rapes.”
CHENEY: No.
BLITZER: “In 1988, Lynn Cheney wrote about a Republican vice president who dies of a heart attack while having sex with his mistress.” Is that true?
CHENEY: Nothing explicit. And actually, that was full of lies. It’s not — it’s just — it’s absolutely not a…
BLITZER: Did you write a book entitled “Sisters”?
CHENEY: I did write a book entitled “Sisters.”
BLITZER: It did have lesbian characters.
CHENEY: This — no, not necessarily. This description is a lie. I’ll stand on that.
BLITZER: There’s nothing in there about rape and brothels?
CHENEY: Well, Wolf, could we talk about a children’s book for a minute?
BLITZER: We can talk about the children’s book. I just wanted to…
CHENEY: I think my segment is, like, 15 minutes long and we’ve had about 10 minutes of…
BLITZER: I just wanted to — I just wanted to clarify what’s in the news today, given — this is…
CHENEY: Sex, lies and distortion.
She’s a BAD WOMAN!
October 27th, 2006 at 6:34 pmman, what a beyotch! now wonder Cheney has that strained expression on his face all the time…
October 27th, 2006 at 6:36 pmPROTEST IDEA FOR WASHINGTON DC!!!
YOU WILL GET ON TV IF YOU DO THIS!!
Anyone located in DC who wants to perform a protest act that will help the Dem agenda, target the ridiculous excusation of torture from the Cheney, and get themselves on TV….here’s a great idea:
Go to a central location like the Whitehouse or Congress. You will need an assistant dressed as an Iraqi prisoner, you need a large 50 gallon bucket, a wooden box, a 8in wide plank of wood from Home Depot…..
Here is the idea: Simulate a waterboarding torture! Tie up your prisoner, put him on the board, rest the board (securely) on the wooden box, and dunk him into the water up to his head. When you prisoner comes out of the water, have him screaming for mercy!
If i lived there, i would be doing this by tomorrow!
We need to re-inact what this looks like for the world to see….good Americans need to see to believe that this is inhumane. IT IS NOT AMERICAN to be this evil. Yes, being the good guy makes you vulnerable, but in the great words….
“American will cease to be Great, when it ceases to be Good.”
October 27th, 2006 at 6:37 pmSex, lies and distortion
Was that the name of her children’s book?
October 27th, 2006 at 6:39 pmGotta hand it to her – times are tough for Daddy, so she’s out on the red-herring wagon, slingin’em as hard and far as she can (I’ll stay away from any “fishy” puns pertaining to her literary achievements)
October 27th, 2006 at 6:40 pmI envision John Stewart waving a copy of the First Joker’s book and reading select passages. All to the delight of the audience.
October 27th, 2006 at 6:41 pmYep, I watched it to……My comment is, good thing these miserable people are married to each other so two other’s won’t be as sick and evil along with them…Now I truly know what kind of person would be married to mr. evil in charge, mrs. just as evil……..Blessings
October 27th, 2006 at 6:41 pmAfter watching this video, I have to ask? Who wears the pants in the Cheney household. She is one strong person, and the meanness inside just oozes out in her tone.
I’ll tell you. Lynn Cheney showed that there is a good chance that Dick is Lynn’s King George.
October 27th, 2006 at 6:42 pmLook at dem Bug Eyes. I wonder how many types of Meds she’s on?
October 27th, 2006 at 6:43 pmShe needs to be on every station!!! She does more for the progressive movement than any Democrat!!! The most unlikeable, shrill, emotional woman today. Ann Coulter is a nun compared to her!
October 27th, 2006 at 6:43 pmwolf drilled her and then slapped her in the face with it…
more please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 27th, 2006 at 6:45 pm…in part because CNN used the phrase “domestic surveillance†to describe the so-called “Terrorist Surveillance Program.â€
I call it what it truly is...Illegal Warrantless Secret Wiretap Program
October 27th, 2006 at 6:46 pmWhat is this idea Talking Points that I always here from the conservatives? Could someone bother to explain it to me, I don’t get it.
“domestic surveillanceâ€, and the whole issue she has with this phrase. That is exact explanation of what it is! To call a “Terrorist Surveillance Program” would actually be less accurate, unless you think the american people are terrorists?
She is accusing CNN of using propaganda when SHE is the one who needs to use propaganda!
October 27th, 2006 at 6:47 pmSome’s off their meds.
wow.
October 27th, 2006 at 6:48 pmChildren’s book?
October 27th, 2006 at 6:51 pm“The Three little GOPigs”
I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your bunker down
“You see, Wolf, I’m a Republican so the smut that I write is patriotic, god-fearing smut.”
October 27th, 2006 at 6:52 pmoooooooo! … i know that look (the screen saved one)…
October 27th, 2006 at 6:52 pmthat’s the one your mom gives you when she’s at her last nerve!
been there, seen it, done it! … badly chosen battle, lynnie…
.
#8 I agree with you there. If she wasn’t the one wearing the pants he’d have kept her on a tight leash. I’ve seen Pit Bulls with more charm then she has.
October 27th, 2006 at 6:54 pmThis lady is freakin nuts. But then you’d have to be to live with someone as dark as “Five Deferrment” Dick.
Just from this short interview you can easily see that this lady is a psychological mess. She actually wrote a book about a Repub. Vice Pres. dying of a heart attack with his mistress? Was this a deep seated wish of hers? Holy crap.
Then she asks Wolf if he wants “Us” to win. If I was Wolf I’d of asked her who “Us” is? The fascist neo-cons trying to destroy our country?
October 27th, 2006 at 6:54 pmHmmm…….”Unhinged”…….tirades and meltdowns by reichwingers……………kinda like MTV’s” Unplugged”……I’d watch
October 27th, 2006 at 6:57 pmWolf has been impressive lately. Over the last month, I’d say. He’s acting like a journalist and asking hard questions of everyone on his show – regardless of party affliation. You can see that Lynne isn’t used to being called out. How funny.
October 27th, 2006 at 6:57 pmWatch out!!!!
Bob Casey Goes UNHINGED on your DOG!!!
October 27th, 2006 at 6:57 pmEvil man, evil wife. Plain and simple. They are both lunatics.
And with hetero parents like that, no wonder their daughter is gay.
October 27th, 2006 at 6:59 pmLet’s all feel really sorry for Lynne. It’s hard watching your life go down the toilet. She used to be on top of the world, and now she’s just the pitiful wife of a Republican who is going to be impeached, and then tried for treason, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, among so many other things. Instead of going on television and foaming at the mouth, shouldn’t she instead be getting fitted for the wardrobe she’ll be wearing at her husband’s trial?
October 27th, 2006 at 7:00 pmHey Jimmie, last time I checked, Santorum is running about 20 points behind in the polls.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:01 pmWow,…..She really has a major problem with reality. She really picked the wrong fight with Blitzer. Was she trying to one-up Clinton? She did badly if that was the case. The diference between Princess Cheney and Pres. Clinton is that Clinton knew what he was talking about and did. Princess Cheney had no clue.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:02 pmBLITZER: It did have lesbian characters.
CHENEY: This — no, not necessarily. This description is a lie. I’ll stand on that.
Jesus Christ, it’s FICTION. Own your frickin’ work and have some integrity. What the f**k is this, “not necessarily”? What does that mean? What does it matter if your novel has lesbian characters? What a goddamn coward this woman is.
When a writer sets out to tell a story, he or she is at the service of the story, not a friggin’ political agenda. Unless the story is propaganda, in which case the writer is a hack.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:02 pmI can just hear Mary Cheney’s reaction. “I looked at Wolf Blitzer and I thought, ‘You son of a bitch!’”
Ya gotta love the Cheney’s family values.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:03 pm“I think you might be a little careful…”
Did that phrase send a shiver down anyone else’s spine?
October 27th, 2006 at 7:03 pmLOVE her!
Stories about brothels and attempted rape are THE R0XX0R!
But ‘economy is healthy’!?!? The Economist does not think this to be an established fact: http://www.economist.com/business/displaystory.cfm?story_id=8079134
October 27th, 2006 at 7:03 pmThis is an calculated attempt to duplicate Clinton’s slapdown of Chris Wallace. But it is not equivalent at all. The difference is that while Clinton was clearly steamed, he still answered Wallace’s comments directly. He utlimately admits fault for his failure to stop the terrorists, but points out (vigoriously) why Wallace’s questions are biased, and that Bush’s failures were even greater (demoting Clarke, PDB memo, etc.). Lynne Cheney is simply rude to Blitzer. She continually interrupts him and never directly answers his questions regarding her book plot. She dismisses specific questions with declarations that they are all lies, without being specific about the nature of the supposed lies. And her claims of CNN propaganda are ridiculous in light of her insistance for slogans like “Terrorist Surveillance Program” to describe what is, most accurately, a domestic warrantless wiretapping program.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:04 pmBluedog49,
That website is for fun only.
I think Jimmie knew that when he posted.
It’s often confused with a real site, but it is really funny.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:06 pmHow would you like to be married to that? Jesus! She makes Hillary look like the Good Witch of the North.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:07 pmMrs. Cheney certainly spins, distorts, and lies like a pro. Take a look:
We’ve been through Katrina. [...] That’s not broken.
If the botched response to that natural disaster doesn’t show something is broken in the government, I don’t know what in the world does.
The president and the vice president inherited a recession.
That is simply not true. The NBER has stated the recession lasted from March though November 2001.
Not even The Wall Street Journal can find anyone who will say the recession started before November 2000.
What this government has done is effective.
Bin Laden is still on the run, Iraq is a mess, and the Taliban are back. I guess Mrs. Cheney and I have differing opinions on what “effective” means.
Wolf, I have nothing to explain. Jim Webb has a lot to explain.
Well, she just won’t answer the question, will she? She keeps deflecting and changing the subject. All trolls use the same tactic here: “Look over there! A Democrat!”
October 27th, 2006 at 7:08 pmit will be interesting to note any ramification(s) wolfie will suffer for having “the nerve” to ask the mrs.vice any real questions…
October 27th, 2006 at 7:09 pmshe was really miffed…
Distortion and Lies!!
Man do we have these people on the ropes. I bet that she won’t have ANY backlash about being combative. Nothing like the mud that was thrown at Clinton after defending himself on Fox news.
They are desparate. As Rummy just said, “It’s time to Back off, take a look at it… RElax.”
Not for a LONG time. We are going to hit you (GOP) until you are down, and then we are going to start kicking. It won’t be considered torture, at least not as defined by YOUR president.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:12 pmHer husband surely doesn’thave clean hands. There is so much blood the mud gets lost.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:14 pmWhat does she know of clean hands. Her south of the border gardener has the clean hands, not her, she sleeps with dicky.
This: I’m here to talk about my book
Followed by this: Well, right, but what is CNN doing running terrorist tapes of terrorists shooting Americans? [...] Do you want us to win?
Followed by this: Now, do you promise, Wolf, that we’re going to talk about my book?
Well, with all due respect Mrs Cheney, if you learnt to focus and stayed on topic, you wouldn’t need to complain about Blitzer not asking about your bloody book, when you keep changing the subject.
What a passive-aggressive person this woman is.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:14 pmI can’t follow Lynn’s thinking here. Her and Scooter writing explicit sexual passages in novels is okay. Her husband waterboarding people is okay. But Jim Webb has alot of explaining to do for having a few sexually explicit passages in his novel.
Well she seems alot like her husband. A big fat lying hypocrite.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:18 pm- I thought Lon Cheney was dead.-

there’s too much at stake here – it ain’t over yet…

hmmm?
October 27th, 2006 at 7:28 pmWhite Powder in an envelope discovered in Pres. Clinton’s office
Sorry. Really OT. Clinton wasn’t there, but it does send a message. Same with Olbermann a couple months ago.
Gee. I wonder why the threats?

LOL! Good One!
October 27th, 2006 at 7:30 pmOh Lynne, how could you forget such breathy prose?
“Let us go away together, away from the anger and the imperatives of men. We shall find ourselves a secluded bower where they dare not venture. There will be only the two of us, and we shall linger through long afternoons of sweet retirement.”
“How well her words describe our love – or the way it would be if we could remove all impediments, leave this place, and join together … Then our union would be complete. Our lives would flow together, twin streams merging into a single river.”
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. I bet she had a big old bottle of wine sitting next to her as she wrote this novel.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:30 pmAre all Republican wives this feisty?
I thought they were supposed to obey their husbands. Oh. Wait. Ms. Cheney is following direct orders. Spin. Shift. Confuse. Induce fear.
October 27th, 2006 at 7:31 pmand, i didn’t look too hard yet, but what is the story context surrounding the sentence (about the penis) in webb’s book… i could only deduce that it was not sexual/sensual at all, very strange… maybe a vietnamese raspberry kinda thing…
October 27th, 2006 at 7:31 pmamazon wouldn’t let me read that whole page because i haven’t bought anything in a long time…
anyone?

October 27th, 2006 at 7:41 pm.
That person sleeps with Darth Chaney every night. What a horrible manifestation!
October 27th, 2006 at 7:43 pmYes, she called it “Katrino” because she’s that far removed from all the horror her husband’s administration caused during “Katrina.”
October 27th, 2006 at 7:46 pmLynn Cheney is a mean nasty woman who loved to talk about Bill Clinton’s penis when she was on Crossfire program, plus her book about lesbians has sleazy stuff in it > shame on her and her stinky hubby VP Dick Cheney!
October 27th, 2006 at 7:46 pmIt has been the folklore of our society since the days of Noah that the rats will desert a sinking ship. One of the other mainstays of our heritage is that we never give up the ship. It is quite obvious that the “elite politicos” of bushco are not students of history or mythology. These politicos are determined to stay aboard the sinking ship and will never give up the rats even though the rats are the only non-convicted things left on the ship. If I had a dollar for every rethuglican that will lose office in the next 26 months and Mrs. Cheney had a feather up her nose we would both be extremely tickled. As it is I am happier than a dead pig under a new wagon just watching bushco self-destruct day by day and rat by rat.

October 27th, 2006 at 7:49 pmgood one, true!
these people just keep getting in deeper, scarier…
I doubt that Cheney “beame” unhinged. She has been that way for years. She wakes up every morning and takes handfuls of “Nasty” pills so that she can spew her contempt for anyone who doesn’t tow her line. Of course anyone married to the likes of her husband would have a great need to be on something just to live with someone capable of shooting you in the face at the drop of a hat(or anything else). She and her “know nothing” husband deserve each other. Hopefully the day is not far off when they will share a jail cell, complete with waterboarding for the rest of their natural lives.

October 27th, 2006 at 8:02 pm“Go phouc yourself Mrs. Cheney.”
October 27th, 2006 at 8:03 pmThanks for the link in #53, trueblue. I also saw the interview with Wolf Blitzer where she tried to dodge and weave on all those lies. Those passages she wrote were probably from personal experience. Maybe when they were newly weds and Dick was fresh out of deferments to keep his pasty-faced butt from being drafted to serve during the Vietnam War.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but that was when Dick knocked Lynne’s ass up and he got either his 4th or 5th deferment that kept him safely here at home while better men went off to fight and die in his place.
At any rate, I find it amusing how every election Lynne Cheney manages to find her way onto the news stage to defend the VP and his trained monkey’s administration as she did in the last days of the 2004 election.
October 27th, 2006 at 8:06 pmHeck of a (nut) job.
October 27th, 2006 at 8:07 pmYou all seem to be singing from the same hymnsheet.
Cheney’s wife made 3 main points :
1 CNN showed terrorist propaganda ie the staged film of a US soldier being sniped. TRUE – that’s why people are calling it Crescent News Network. CNN is despised by the troops, just like the BBC is despised by British troops.
2 CNN is essentially adopting as its editorial line the DNC talking points eg running “Broken Government” items. She pointed out that the economy is damn strong. TRUE
3 She denied the DNC charge about her books – she claims CATEGORICALLY that her books contain NO EXPLICIT SEX. Probably TRUE – why would she risk being tripped up? She knows what she wrote, Blitzer doesn’t.
You guys are gonna be spitting teeth on Nov 7th if current trends continue. The Fat Lady ain’t sung yet, but not even the DNC thinks it can win the Senate – and the House is no longer looking like a shoo-in.
Ignore the national polls – go look at the detailed local polls eg at realclearpolitics.com Otherwise you are gonna get a nasty surprise in a few days time.
(As a Londoner, I am amazed how many Americans are ignorant of the actual state of the polls. Frothing at the mouth about impeachments, and all the hate some of you guys display – sad, really. No sense of balance. And in CNN’s case, damn all sense of decency.

Prove point number one if you can:CNN is despised by the troops, just like the BBC is despised by British troops.
CNN is essentially adopting as its editorial line the DNC talking points eg running “Broken Government†items. She pointed out that the economy is damn strong. TRUE
Wrong. Housing, which is one of the real engines of American growth, is the worst its been in thirty five years. Real wages are down. The stockmarket is doing OK, but that isn’t the only benchmark; bankruptcies are growing also.
You guys are gonna be spitting teeth on Nov 7th if current trends continue. The Fat Lady ain’t sung yet, but not even the DNC thinks it can win the Senate – and the House is no longer looking like a shoo-in.
And I will be here to feed your words back to you.
Ignore the national polls – go look at the detailed local polls eg at realclearpolitics.com Otherwise you are gonna get a nasty surprise in a few days time.
This is an election about Iraq, plain and simple. Americans have been polled repeatedly, and the trend is away from Republican positions. And realclearpolitics is realbiased – or hadn’t you noticed?
(As a Londoner, I am amazed how many Americans are ignorant of the actual state of the polls. Frothing at the mouth about impeachments, and all the hate some of you guys display – sad, really. No sense of balance. And in CNN’s case, damn all sense of decency.

1 CNN showed terrorist propaganda ie the staged film of a US soldier being sniped. TRUE
Comment by JohninLondon — October 27, 2006 @ 8:12 pm
False. That tape was real and CNN was reporting the news. That’s what they do.
You have a problem with reality, so you are asking that CNN portray a sanitised view of the war, and only from the government’s perspective.
Hardly the rock-solid foundations of a democracy.
CNN is despised by the troops, just like the BBC is despised by British troops.
The Beeb despised by British troops? Do you have the results of a poll to back that assertion of did you just pull it out of your rear end?
2 CNN is essentially adopting as its editorial line the DNC talking points
You are a Londoner. What do you care what the CNN in the US broadcasts?
She pointed out that the economy is damn strong. TRUE
False. The economy, although not in the doldrums, is not “damn strong”. Even the housing market that kept the economy buoyant is slumping now.
3 She denied the DNC charge about her books – she claims CATEGORICALLY that her books contain NO EXPLICIT SEX. Probably TRUE
So you are just defnding hwer for the sake of it, since you don’t know either. Interesting.
why would she risk being tripped up?
Er, oh, because she is a liar, just like her husband?

‘I visit the US a couple of times a year – it doesn’t look like broken government to me. Heck, I wish central London was as safe as NYC.’
Heck John, I live in NYC – downtown to be exact. And I don’t feel so safe. Still. When I hear more than 1 siren or a helicopter I still get a pit in the bottom of my stomach. And when I hear things like a PDB stating “Bin Laden Determined to Strike USA’ – well, I get pretty angry. So I’m glad you feel so safe here. I don’t feel like this government has my and my family’s best interest at heart, and that makes me think things are broken.

Visiting a few times a year ain’t going to tell you anything, John. Maybe next time you visit, take in New Orleans and go sightseeing. Perhaps if you lived and worked here and watched the National Debt go to 8.5 Trillion dollars, the unsafe borders, good jobs sent abroad, corporate corruption run amuck and one of the most mean-spirited, dirty, corrupt and vile governments the US has ever had, you might sing a different tune.
As for you wishing London was as safe, the last time I checked Westminister Abbey and the Tower of London was still standing. That counts for something.
I have always appreciated England and having someone to stand with us as allies. Too bad our imbecile of a president and his henchmen have strained that relationship and trust with the Brittish folks. Next time we go to war, I bet there will be some second thinking on our allies part, huh?

I reckon Cheney’s wife knows what she wrote and what she didn’t write. If she states categorically that her books contained no explicit sex – and this was false – the news channels would have been full of explicit quotes by now.
The sniper video clip on CNN was a propaganda coup for terrorists. Why is there so little coverage by CNN of US troops out in the field, rather than all the Green Zone hotel balcony editorialising ? If you don’t recognise the endemic spin and moral equivocation in most of what CNN broadcasts – go read what Ted Turner was saying, he’s not sure what side he’s on. And how about Eason Jordan’s admissions of suppressing news from Baghdad, and then his resignation over false claims against the US military. I just checked out the link at 53 – the link itself concedes that Cheney did not use sexually explicit language. Have you read the Webb stuff – totally explicit.
I happen to think it is all somewhat irrelevant anyway – but Cheney’s wife is not standing for office, Webb is. And the CNN interview was meant to be about her childrens’ book.
Someone asked about whether the UK military despise the BBC. In 2003 the sailors on HMS Ark Royal demanded that the BBC news service be switched off – they were sick of its bias and inaccuracyand anti-military spin. Its moral equivocation. I recall the lead BBC reporter in Baghdad saying that US troops were nowhere near the city – but you could see their tanks up the street behind him. Just like that caboe scene in NO after Katrina. This week senior execs at the BBC have admitted its systemic liberal bias – check today’s telegraph, or the mail or the Standard this past week – or the site BiasedBBC.blogspot.com

That is like saying showing the flag-draped coffins is aiding the enemy. Again, you want a sanitised version of the war. Very convenient if the war is based on strings of misrepresentations, and falsehoods.
Why is there so little coverage by CNN of US troops out in the field, rather than all the Green Zone hotel balcony editorialising ?
Well, because Iraq is not a safe place. Or do you believe that Washington DC is more dangerous than Baghdad? Please.
If you don’t recognise the endemic spin and moral equivocation in most of what CNN broadcasts – go read what Ted Turner was saying, he’s not sure what side he’s on.
I am not here to defend CNN -I hardly watch it as it is.

Here we do get the flag-draped coffins, on their return to RAF Brize Norton. I don’t want the news sanitised – I want more news and less editorialising. And less cuddling up to the enemy. And far less staged photography.
If there are only 9 embedded reporters with the US military (and a lot of those are independent ?) – that’s the fault of the press. Too many journalists living in hotels in the safety of the Green Zone, FAILING to cover the conflict properly. Pretending to be war reporters when they are no such thing.

Now see, John, that’s what I’m talking about. Greenspan is a republican crony. Over the past five years, most everyone here in America has refinanced their homes for cheaper interest rates. Most of Americans have now got much higher mortgages because they took the equity out and have been spending it on bills and bullshit. I heard one official state a week ago the equity lost amounts to well over two trillion dollars which is now debt.
Just what the hell do you think has been proping up the middle class here? Better wages? Better jobs? No, its home equity and credit. Are you aware that the average American’s savings are at a 50 year low and just how much credit card and other debt the average person here has is absolutley staggering?
As for the stock market: just because the oil companies and international corporations who make goods by exploiting cheap labor in the Far East, and then sell them to you Brits and other Europeans for a profit, that does NOT mean our personal economic lives here in America are doing good. It only means that Corporations on the DOW or NASDEQ are doing very well at America’s expense. Some of us are starting to wake up to that and we are really pissed about it, OK?
You need to get a clue, pal.

I just for the life of me cannot figure out what it is about this administration that some people simply will not give up. Numerous scandals, corruption, lies the size of Rush Limbaugh’s ass, misinformation, distortions, fraud, limitless waste, favoritism, cronyism, torture, a war based on the ramblings of a cabal of lunatics (PNAC) and a complete and total disregard for the constitution and bill of rights of this country. I like US politics is why. Ever since reading Ted Sorensen’s book on Kennedy’s campaign in 1960. The Internet makes it dead easy to keep reasonably in touch with events in the US, to check the news sites, the opinion polls, some of the blogsites that show what people are talking about. It was the fact that the Lynne Cheney interview was news that brought me to this site – I was trying to find the video of the Blitzer interview, found it here via Google.

Same ticking time bomb, Daily briefing “Bin Laden Determined to Strike United States” Bush, “Ok, you’ve covered your ass now.” FBI to Rice, the threat, on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 10. Rice’s denial of the meeting…Bush, reading “My Pet Goat” “the nation is under attack” Bush’s blank stare…. tick… tick… tick… Bush, “I’m just not that concerned about Bin Laden” … tick… tick… tick… NIE Report, the Iraq War has made us less safe… Bush’s blank stare… tick… tick… tick… It’s time to stop living in fear and start living in Peace. You say your overseas investments are growing at some 4% a week ? At a compound rate that looks like trebling in a year. Aren’t you in the wrong game ?
The decline in house prices may simply be the froth being blown off a lot of house-price inflation ? Is that such a bad thing ?

Thank you. You know, for a British/Aussi troll you are a regular frapper dasher. I heard that term on an Andy Griffith rerun. ;)
Here is another fact that came in with that GDP report: Spending on home building dropped at a rate of 17.4 percent in the third quarter. That was the biggest drop since the first quarter of 1991 when such spending was sliced at a 21.7 percent pace….the bloated trade deficit also played roles in weighing down economic activity….An inflation gauge tied to the GDP report showed that core prices — excluding food and energy — advanced at a rate of 2.3 percent in the third quarter, which was down from 2.7 percent in the second quarter.
I mean, any way you look at it, the liberals here would tell you that really sucks. GDP down. Core prices and inflation up. Not me of course, I’m just pointing out the facts. Maybe you can spin this into something good for me while I go for a beer?
October 27th, 2006 at 10:32 pmJohn, what are you smoking? 4 months ago the dollar was about 1.5 to the euro…now it is more than 2. That is extreme. Would you like to talk about the pound? It is worse.

Exactly… Proving a negative?
That’s what we did to Iraq before the war with proving wether or not they had wmd. We said to Saddam,”If you don’t prove to us that you don’t have wmd then we will consider the declaration false.” the declaration being the papers that they had to submit on time to the security counsel that they didn’t have wmd.
They are very comfortable with asserting falsehoods and then saying either,1)”I don’t know, that’s what I heard. 2)”I haven’t seen/read that report yet so I cant respond. 3)”We’re still in the middle of a trial so I cannot respond to that”.

A year ago I was getting 1.80 US dollars per £ sterling. The rate today is 1.89. That is nothing like the change you suggest. And the Euro has stayed pretty stable against the Pound. 1 Euro = 1.27 US dollars.

Which does not mean that it is due to the economy being “hamstrung”. Europe still is undergoing a historical transformation, and is very much an amazing experiment in progress.
Stringing together 20-something economies together, without any one faltering, is a major feat.
The US has no such circumstancial excuse. Fact is, again, the US economy is not red-hot. It’s more like “lukewarm”. Which is not necessarily bad per se, unless you happen to live in the lower income brackets.

October 27th, 2006 at 10:55 pmThe dollar is not the entire issue, as Clinton would say, “It’s the economy stupid.” . When each of the three major automotive powers (I’ll agree that Chrysler is a division of Daimler, but its performance is abysmal and it has been treated as independent entity by Daimler.) in the United States are doing worse then Austin, Jaguar and MG in their worst years, the US economy is in dire straits. Isn’t this from the same guy that claims our government is doing just fine? I suppose he also wants CNN to run a piece about how well our government is doing since the congressional approval rating is at around 19%. And iirc the Bush administration is the one that saw a sharp decline in prosecution of companies that hire illegal workers. The solution: throw money at the problem in a loosely defined border security bill.
As for the economy, the stock markets are up but the median household income has fallen three percent in the last six years with benefits being cut also. The trade deficit is at (another) all time high. But yes…the stock market is healthy.
The fact is that the GOP policies for the past six years have not done what they promised to do. It is time for a change of leadership.

October 27th, 2006 at 11:41 pmThank you, Mrs. Cheney, for bringing up the fact that there are two surveillance programs.
Remember, kids, Bush doesn’t go to the FISA court when one end of a call is international. Why? Because it takes too much time and the bad guys just might get away. “If a terrorist is calling into the United States, we want to know about it” — George Bush.
And then we have a domestic-to-domestic call. George does go to the FISA courts for that. Apparently he’s not as concerned with the time factor in this case.
One more thing. If a terrorists in LA is calling another terrorist in NYC and we monitor it, is it not considered “domestic surveillance??”
To recap:
Per Mrs. Cheney…
Domestic to international call = Terrorist Surveillance Program.

October 27th, 2006 at 11:43 pmLynne Cheney. What a piece of work.
She’s not just the missus. She’s a hardcore neo-con in her own right. A scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and a former director of the country’s largest defense contractor, Lockheed-Martin.
October 27th, 2006 at 11:44 pmHave you noticed how completely f*cked up this thread is, WC?
Comment by Zooey — October 27, 2006 @ 11:33 pm
Well…A bit.
Don’t forget…Bill O’Reilly is on David Letterman tonight. Just minutes away for those on the East Coast.
October 27th, 2006 at 11:45 pmThe Letterman/O’Reilly Death Match 2006 = buzzkill
October 27th, 2006 at 11:57 pmOK,
I’m tired. (’wicked tired’ as they say in MA)
Zooey, as always you are the funniest lady on the Internet. (and definately on Idaho!)
JPark, nice to meet you. Email me and we’ll conspire… I mean …. chat about things!
Goodnight, TP!
October 28th, 2006 at 12:01 amWhen she mentioned the economy, she was talking about her’s and Darth’s. Imagine how their personal economy has improved in the past 6 years…
Being a mere commoner, our family isn’t doing the “healthy economy” dance much of late. Of course, I could save so much money (as my wealthy in-laws would advise) if I sucked up all those low Wal-Mart prices. Sadly, due to one of my many (futile but fulfilling) boycotts, I can’t. I will, however, save some money by not buying any books by Lynne C.
October 28th, 2006 at 12:03 amdammit!
IN Idaho.
IN!
I hate making a mistake like that.
Anyway, Goodnight.
grrrrr.
:P

October 28th, 2006 at 12:12 amHey trueblue, ya dinn’a ha’e ta leave th’ cell, ta me ‘n Zooey. I’m sure I could help ye both wi’ th’ rigors of close confinement…. ease those ’stress positions’
and, yes, this thread is definitely ummm…off topic.
But hey, so was Ms. Cheney. Has her book been made into a video yet?
yeah….see….it was the subtle influence of her thinly veiled depictions of illicit sex, of brothels, of lesbian relationships that drove this thread straight to the gutter…so we’re on topic after all!!!

then o’lielly on letterman,
then the dixiechicks on nightline…
it’s like i need a cigarette… i quit 5 years ago though…
:)
Letterman was hot tonight. He didn’t waste any time getting into the Iraq war and he unloaded on O’Reilly. Bill brought a toy sword and what looked like a Zorro hat for Dave’s son; several times during the discussion Bill grabbed the hat (which he had placed in the chair next to him) and glanced at the audience, and it looked like he was going to get up and walk out. At one point Dave accused Bill of putting words in his mouth, and said something like “your putting words in my mouth like you put artificial facts in your head.”
October 28th, 2006 at 12:32 amMaureen Dowd talks about the GOP’s gay-baiting, Michael J. Fox-baiting and… novel-baiting?
No mention on whether Lynne’s pioneer lesbian novel was also baited.
October 28th, 2006 at 12:32 amDarn…”you’re putting” instead of “your.”
And now Bob Corker has approved an ad so that we can meet his girls. Sure makes me want to go out and vote for him.
Not.
October 28th, 2006 at 12:38 amCNN is kicking Bushco all up and down, using real conservatives that are angry about everything this administration has done. They are showing how this adminstration has broken every real conservative point in conservative philosophy.
The consevatives are turning on Bush in droves, calling for the democrats to take over and clean House, so to speak.
October 28th, 2006 at 12:40 amOh, the Report on CNN is called Broken Government, BTW.
Now I don’t agree with all the conservative points, but CNN was nailing them to the wall.
October 28th, 2006 at 12:46 amIf Lynne doesn’t like to think about Broken Government, perhaps she should avoid her fellow American Enterprise Institute scholar, Norman Ornstein.
He and Thomas Mann (from Brookings) wrote, The Broken Branch, How Congress Is Failing America and How to Get It Back on Track
Publishers Weekly says “Their book argues persuasively that relentless partisanship and a disregard for institutional procedures have led Congress to be more dysfunctional than at any time in recent memory.”
Must be awkward in the halls at AEI since dear Lynne doesn’t realize anything is broken.
As for Dubya and Darth Cheney, there are many books about how broken the current Executive branch is these days.
October 28th, 2006 at 12:56 amMethinks the second beeeyatch came to this gunfight with a tiny rubber sword.
October 28th, 2006 at 1:09 amDEMOCRATS HAVE NO REAL ANSWERS
Democrats have no real answers to charges of moral corruption within their Party, and within their souls. The difference between the rhetoric of a Democrat and a terrorist is almost non-existent.
Democrats claim that although they are critical of President Bush, they support our troops in Iraq. But they are liars. Our troops are volunteers who believe in their mission, and have great respect for their Commander-in-chief, whom they overwhelmingly voted for in the last Presidential election. Cowardly Democratic politicians won’t go to Iraq and speak-out against our President because they know they would be booed off our military bases.
Immoral, hypocritical Democrats also believe people have the “right to kill†millions of unborn human beings through abortions, yet they consider themselves “good†people! I voted for John Kennedy, and would have voted for Bobby Kennedy, but after these great men, a moral sickness corrupted and darkened the soul of the Democratic Party, and that “soul” gets more corrupt and darker with every passing year.

October 28th, 2006 at 2:22 amYup, Barney.
What moral corruption?
I would say some have respect for him (which is bizarre) but I think most of them are fighting for each other to ensure that they make it out of Bush’s boondoggle alive.
And what percentage of the military voted for Bush?
Possibly. So what.
Compared to republicans who don’t give crap about a child once it is born and “yet they consider themselves ‘good’ people!”

This woman is a demented liar. She tried very hard to cover up the fact that her daughter is a Lesbian, something which is in no way bad. Bad is when a mother refuses to recognize reality. The Cheney family is certainly dysfunctional and very dangerous, although I believe her appearance has done more harm than good to her torturer, friend shooter, draft dodger, boozer, mean-assed husband.

JAMES PETRAS’ NEW BOOK – THE POWER OF ISRAEL IN THE UNITED STATES
It’s also able to get prominent Washington officials and the dominant corporate-run and funded media to label all criticism of Israel anti-semitic and freely uses this ruse whenever it serves its purpose. Israel is allowed to get away with its intelligence operations here as well including its covert penetration of military bases, the FBI, IRS, INS, EPA and many other government agencies. In addition, it’s believed its agents knew in advance about the 9/11 attack but withheld the information knowing it would serve its interests to let it happen. There’s also considerable evidence high US officials either knew about it themselves or were complicit in carrying it out because they also knew it would allow them the kind of reckless free reign at home and abroad they never could have gotten any other way. This is a story that won’t go away nor should it, and one day we may finally learn all the parts of it we can only speculate about now.
http://bellaciao.org/en/article.php3?id_article=13901
Oct. 25, 2006 – While reportedly under investigation for her ties to an influential pro-Israel lobbying organization, California Rep. Jane Harman last month hosted a private dinner for the group that was attended by two top Bush administration officials—Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte and Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff.
The Sept. 13 dinner took place at the home of Harman, the ranking Democrat on the House Select Committee on Intelligence, and was attended by over 120 top financial backers of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). The highlight of the evening was a panel discussion in which Harman played the host, questioning Negroponte and Chertoff about Mideast developments, international terrorism and homeland-security issues, according to an AIPAC official.

October 28th, 2006 at 6:54 amShe’s a weirdo. She was behaving the
October 28th, 2006 at 7:37 amsame way on NPR with Terry Gross when she was promoting her last book. I’m pretty sure BushCo puts her up to this kind of behavior.
[Democrats have no real answers to charges of moral corruption within their Party,]
Tom Delay cover-up and scandal. Mark Foley cover-up and scandal. Katrina and Fema-response scandal. CIA agent outing scandal. The list goes on and on. You want moral corruption? The republicans are pros.
And what answers do the republicans have? They have none other than “stay the course” and “history will judge us to be right, so shut up.” They have no real answers, yet have the gall to mock those that criticize them.
Here’s some answers: Get out of Iraq as soon as possible. Reduce the deficit. Roll back tax cuts to the top 1% of incoming earners. Cut student loan rates in half. Reduce the pollution that causes global warming. Increase funding for public education. Remove the ban on federal funding for stem cell research. Ban the use of torture in any way shape or form.
Do these sound like answers to you? Probably not if you’re a right-wing extremist nutjob – but they sound like sensible answers to the rest of America.
[and within their souls.]
The Bush administration and the GOP uses religious fundamentalists to gain votes, but mock them in elsewheres. If you and the rest of your ilk believe that’s not soulless political manipulation, then god help us all.
[The difference between the rhetoric of a Democrat and a terrorist is almost non-existent.]
Sure there is. Democrats want to make the country better. Terrorists want to blow it up.
[Democrats claim that although they are critical of President Bush, they support our troops in Iraq. But they are liars. Our troops are volunteers who believe in their mission, and have great respect for their Commander-in-chief, whom they overwhelmingly voted for in the last Presidential election.]
So what about the troops that disagreed? There are many of them and their voices are only very recently being heard. I find it odd that you claim to ’support the troops’ yet you dehumanize them into a singular mass of faceless political machinery. They are human beings, and the democrats support them – which is why they don’t want them fighting an unjust cause where they’re put at constant risk.
[Cowardly Democratic politicians won’t go to Iraq and speak-out against our President because they know they would be booed off our military bases.]
Patrick Murphy is a veteren of the war in Iraq, who is now running for congress as a democrat. What’s more, many members of the military agree with him – there are those that disagree as well, but of course, unlike you, any smart person will realize that the military is not a singular body but a collection of diverse individuals willing to sacrifice to protect our freedom. So it would help if you not claim to “support the troops” while dehumanizing them into a cheap political talking point, jerkwad.
[Immoral, hypocritical Democrats also believe people have the “right to kill†millions of unborn human beings through abortions, yet they consider themselves “good†people!]
Please. There’s more to the abortion debate than that – such as women who are raped, or women whose lives are endangered by pregnancy. It’s a very deeply discussed issue, and rightly so, since the subject of personhood is something we’re not entirely sure of yet.
Unfortunately, like the politicians and pundits you’re parroting, you using the subject of dead babies to win emotional appeal points is far more callous and hypocritical than anything you’re accusing democrats of.
[I voted for John Kennedy, and would have voted for Bobby Kennedy, but after these great men, a moral sickness corrupted and darkened the soul of the Democratic Party, and that “soul†gets more corrupt and darker with every passing year.]
Oh you voted against Nixon? Well, then it should ‘please’ you to know that today’s neoconservatives model themselves after Nixon. Dick Cheyney in particular, since he worked for the criminally corrupt president.
I also find it absolutely mystifying that you claim to know “so much” about democratic corruption, but are completely blind to the corruption within the party you support. For being someone so long-lived, you don’t seem to have become any wiser over the years.
[Vincent Bemowski - Veteran, U.S. Army]
I respect your service towards our country, but I will also say this: Your political views are Fubar.
October 28th, 2006 at 7:40 amTo Vincent Bemowski,
It’s YOUR right-wingnut party that’s leading the way to hell in the fast lane with the corruption, sex scandals and torturing to name a few, not to mention the evil neo-con misleaders leading the way to murders in Iraq. Your link connects to a Catholic site, I’m a Catholic and I also recall the late great Pope John Paul trying to convince the criminal known as George W. Bush to not attack Iraq. Being that your link leads to a Catholic site, you must then have learned that Christ is also known as the Prince of Peace and many of his greetings were “Peace be with you.” Didn’t he also say “Love your enemies” and other liberal rebelious sounding phrases? You obviously have deep bitterness and darkness staining your soul and weighing you down, it stinks of it in your comments. I’m not saying we liberals, democrats are perfect, but compared to you, your darkness and your war mongoring hypocritical party, we smell much prettier. Peace and God Bless the World!
October 28th, 2006 at 7:45 am306 – In an ideal scenario, neither party would be corrupt, and balance would allow for free space between both sides. Given that the GOP controls so much of the federal government, it’s no longer about fightig for principles – it’s about maintaining a hold on power, hence the widespread corruption. Similar shit happenned when the democrats had control of congress back in the day. It’s happening again to the republicans, who are rapidly discovering that absolute power means you only have yourselves to blame when things go wrong.
October 28th, 2006 at 7:49 amGreat post Dan, I could not have said it as well…..Sadly this person is about the same age as I am, considering his statement he voted for Kennedy,if true..I wonder when I read these type of post’s when their learning skill’s stoped and just what drives people to continue to believe in failed, lieing administrations…Clearly they are not paying attention to the current situations or new’s…….Blessings

October 28th, 2006 at 8:14 amThere are times when I feel like the Domestic Spy program is justified. It’s usually moments when I’m concerned about my family. The anthrax thing really scared me. But Americans don’t even know what real fear is anymore and the Neocons have such a very clear record of lying and deliberate misinformation we don’t know what the real risks are either.
Expose, Yep!, All the behind closed door’s deal’s cheney has been doing for year’s and no accountability on anything is scary. But I refuse to be fearful. Neither do I expect this corrupt bunch to protect me….They are among the terrorests as far as I am concerned…..I can see no diffrence in sadamm and this bunch, killers all…..One war monger over there or over here is the same..Pure evil cloaked in flag waving, profesing “values”, faith based relegions and thumping the bible to suit their evil end’s….A bigger pack of liers and thieves I have not seen in my entire 65 year’s….The worst president and administration in the history of our country and it’s not done yet….I hope for change in Nov. but unless it’s in both houses I don’t see much being done untill all the public stand up and demand an end to this madness..
Good post’s plunger and jo-jo…Am a little slow this morning, first cup of coffee…Blessings all
October 28th, 2006 at 8:27 amI read over the book “Sisters” by Lynne Cheney and all I can say it what a hypocrite! Her book is about gay relationships, rape, lynching Native Americans among other things. I am so tired of lies lies lies. It would be really incredible if the republican party could address the issues instead of lining their pockets, lying about the country and protecting their exclusive club full of 3 day work weeks, perks beyond the imagination and blaming everyone else for their problems. Sounds like someone with a drinking or drug problem that says it’s always someone else at fault for their problems. NOVEMBER 7th cannot get here fast enough!!!!!!!!!!
October 28th, 2006 at 8:34 amI recently found a very interesting website:
October 28th, 2006 at 8:37 amhttp://alreadylinked.com/
There you can purchase ad space for your Blog etc.
Good point Rodney, We the people and the media are at fault as well for not doing enough early on to stop this bunch……I personaly have been working as hard as I can since before 2000, telling everyone I knew or met about this administration before they took over…Everyone said I was nut’s and a crazy libral…Now they are all saying “wish we would of listened to you”…….Well, now we have to work harder and not sit by and just watch them implode….Back new people and boot out all the corruption on all sides..Blessings
October 28th, 2006 at 8:50 amI skimmed over Lynne’s book Sister, available on the White House website. She is quite the liar.
October 28th, 2006 at 8:51 amWow! Little dick was in our state yesterday and Smirkey’s here today. Best place for them to puke their vile lies. By the way, our state motto is “Thank God for Mississippi”. Why won’t Little dick, karl, Lynne, or Smirkey prove to us that waterboarding is not torture? Murdock must know this would be a huge winner in the 8 to 9 spot. Waterboarding With The Stars!!!, starring Ann Coultera and Sean Hannity. Huge!!!! Lynne must be positioning herself for a major new show with Fox. Hey, farfetched, you say? Look what Gotti’s daughter pulled off…By the way, some excellent posts of late. And, the trolls get dumber and dumber, don’t they?
October 28th, 2006 at 9:28 amKILL THE ZIONIST COMMIE FILTHY LIARS!
October 28th, 2006 at 9:33 amIt doesnt get much more delusional than that. I mean she outright LIED on TV, but it’s going to turn into the “liberal media’s” fault. That great liberal conspiracy that allowed her to lie and spew venom with no repercussion.
October 28th, 2006 at 9:42 amDid she attend Jesus Camp as a child??!!
October 28th, 2006 at 10:07 amA nut in the worst way. Lynne should admit that she’s a lesbian, she wrote hot lesbian love scenes into her novels, and apologize to wolf and CNN for her rude and dastardly behavior. Was this paybcak for Clinton’s “explosion” on FNS? Jim Webb’s books are critically acclamied by the whole political spectrum, including John McCain. http://www.polibuzz.blogspot.com
Allen is just trying to stay alive.
October 28th, 2006 at 10:29 amVincent provided a link, which gives an insight as to how people like he become so indoctrinated. Some quotes from the link:
In other words, don’t think for yourself about what the Holy Bible says, do as the Church says.
A quick search of Biblegateway.com revealed that the book of Wisdom is not in the Holy Bible. Vincent is a prime example of the 30% of mankind who willingly follows and authority figure. It is troubling enough when that authority figure is some unknown God. Worse yet when man cloaks himself in the role of God on Earth and purports to reveal God’s word, as the Church does.
Faith means accepting that which is non-rational. Blind faith means suspending all rational thought. It is a form of accepted slavery, for the will is given over to be controled by another. It really isn’t faith, but mental subjugation. When one gives over one’s own personal spirituality/relationship with God and substitutes the words of the Church, one has subjugated him/herself into slavery to men who pervert a relationship with God for their own personal power and gain.

October 28th, 2006 at 10:38 amBriseadh na Faire – i don’t like to get into other’s religious beliefs so much (way too personal and private) but from vincent’s link, what stood out for me was the first line of major copy, “Messages from the Mother of God”… huh? … referring to mary, mother of jesus?… jesus is god?…
October 28th, 2006 at 11:16 amit’s all getting so twisted and confusing… no wonder the world is such a mess…
(actually, it’s been twisted and confusing for a long time, which is why i dropped out of the c.church 35 years ago… maybe they changed that notion also)… (at least they are getting rid of “limbo”, hopefully, one of my original gripes)… (but that’s just MY opinion)

Her mouth is just full of baloney… Wolf Blitzer did a good job in this “children’s book interview” segment.

October 28th, 2006 at 12:35 pm#295 – It’s the draft-dodger chickenhawks in charge who have no answers, only the unbridled ambition to f**k with everything. October 28th, 2006 at 1:00 pmThe Republican Experiment has failed. This party is everything they say they are not. Their approval ratings are in the toilet and for good reason. This cheney can’t handle the truth so she calls it propaganda. THIS IS CALLED REALITY ON THE GROUND.
Strong on National Security?
What about 9-11, anthrax attacks, invading a country that had nothing to do with 9-11, Katrina, N Korea nuke test. Feel safer?
Strong on tax cuts? Sure TO THE TOP 1%! Are you worth 2 million dollars or more? They did very little for the middle class, which is the majority of americans. Do you think this is fair?
The Democratic party has a proven record of peace and prosperity. The republican party has a proven record of war and debt. They have nothing to offer the american people but more of the same – STAY THE COURSE. We desperately need a change. Do your homework and vote the creeps out of office on November 7.

October 28th, 2006 at 2:34 pmShe doesn’t watch CNN, yet she had a list of complaints against CNN.
It sure looks as though Lynn went on CNN with a pre-set agenda and a list of right wing talking points to use for effect.
No one is better at self rightious indignation than the “Huey, Louie, and Dewey” Looking Lynn Cheney.
F**k Lynn Cheney, her husband her family and the horse she rode in on.
October 28th, 2006 at 2:59 pmThey lie to us day after day – they smear their opponents with dirty lies – they cannot tell the truth – they are a greedy and selfish lot.
Damn them all to hell.
They have realized that they can lie to the public at any time and any place. No one has the nerve or the research skills and preparation to confront them. Wolfie should have had quotes from her book ready, but he chickened out.
October 28th, 2006 at 3:14 pmDid she say “the Pres and Vice Pres inherited a recession?”.
October 28th, 2006 at 3:48 pmI though Clinton had left the economy very strong?
Please correct if I’m wrong or point me up in the conversation where this is answered.
Thanks very much.
Interestingly, her hubby the veep sanitizes HIS hands after shaking hands with voters. Big product placement for Purel. It’s in the NY Times today. Perhaps unintentionally funny. While I understand the risk of contagion from the common voter, it is a bit insulting.
October 28th, 2006 at 4:21 pmHer hubby, the veep, sanitizes HIS hands after contact with the common voter. Big product placement for Purel. It’s in the NY Times today. I can understand concern about contagion from the great unwashed, but it is a tad insulting.
October 28th, 2006 at 4:25 pmTalking Point Alert:
October 28th, 2006 at 4:27 pm“Did you see how angry Lynn Cheney was on CNN? Why was she say angry? She just lost it. All he did was ask her a question. Are her and the the VP so hard up for money that she had to keep insisting on plugging her book. I mean, she just completely exploded and lost all control. That’s no way for a second lady to act.”
I’ll qoute Eminem on this one:
“F**K you Lynn Cheney.”
October 28th, 2006 at 4:32 pmLynne Cheney is a liar and a snob, she’s not to be taken seriously by anyone of reasonabe intelligence. The best thing to do is be dismissive of anything she she might say…

October 28th, 2006 at 5:16 pmhttp://www.whitehouse.org/administration/sisters.asp
That is a fake site, as has been pointed out several times before here
October 28th, 2006 at 5:18 pmI find it terrifying that an experienced journalist such as Wolf Blitzer can let Lynne Cheney get away unchallenged with a ststement like “we inherited a recession.” Excuse me? This nation was enjoying a six billion dollar surplus when George W. Bush took office. By the end of this first term, we were three billion dollars in the hole. Like father, like son. Blitzer should have inserted a disclaimer there, so that his network wouldn’t be accused of spreading falsehoods masquerading as fact.
It would also have been smart of him to have “Sisters” in hand, with the appropriate passages marked.
October 28th, 2006 at 5:37 pmIn re: the unsubstantiated comment of JohninLondon, above. If this video is a fake, somebody had best alert CNN, because they ran the same thing live on their network yesterday, and now have the transcript posted on their Web site.
October 28th, 2006 at 5:53 pm136. “People like you would say with a straight face that there is a difference between a “Timetable†and a “Benchmarkâ€â€¦ “
Ummm….there is a difference between a timetable and a benchmark.

North Korea – Clinton’s Failing
Clinton was impeached… For Lying under oath…
Stock market at all time high (Under Bush)
Recession – Provided by Clinton – Don’t tell me Bush caused this after 2 months as president. Get a grip. The economy began softening months before President Bush took office.
Unemployment rate – 4.6% (Rate in France for comparison – 9.0%)
During the Clinton administration, vast sums were taken from the Social Security and Federal Highway Trust Funds to the budget so that Clinton could take “credit†for balancing the budget.
Clinton raided the Aviation Trust Fund using some of the $10 billion it collects annually on federal deficit-reduction instead of airport and other aviation needs. Perhaps this money could have been used Airports to improve security prior to 9/11???
Clinton’s response to Cole bombing and FIRST Trade Center bombing – Couple of cruise missles…
Enron, Global Crossing, Adelphia – All major corporate scandals under Clinton’s watch.
Housing market – Um, have you been living under a rock? The market has doubled and tripled in some areas because of “flippers.” Any correction was inevitable.
1996 United States campaign finance controversy – “Seventeen people were eventually convicted for fraud or for funneling Asian funds into the United States elections. A number of the convictions came against longtime Clinton-Gore friends and political appointees.” (Wikipedia)
Anyone remember Whitewater?
Clinton’s National Security advisor Sandy Berger illegally removed highly classified documents from the National Archives and intentionally destroyed some of them.
Former CIA Director John M. Deutch was caught improperly storing highly classified defense documents on his personal computer in 1999. Mr. Deutch, who agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of mishandling classified documents, was pardoned by Mr. Clinton in January 2001, before a sentence was imposed.
Marc Rich – “On January 20, 2001, only hours before leaving office, President Bill Clinton granted Rich an extremely controversial presidential pardon. Since Rich’s former wife and mother of his 3 children, socialite Denise Rich, had made large donations to the Democratic Party and the Clinton Library during Bill Clinton’s time in office.” (Wikipedia)
Remember the DMCA? – Yep, thank you Bill Clinton…
As for getting into wars: Remember Somalia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Haiti?
“Don’t ask don’t tell” – Clinton
“I Didn’t Inhale” …
I could go on and on…
Just providing some context to all this liberal hysterics here…
October 28th, 2006 at 6:10 pmToo bad Lynn Cheney is lying for her torturous husband. I knew Lynn Cheney endorsed torture too. The entire Administration needs to be investigated for war crimes and impeached!

October 28th, 2006 at 6:59 pmCommon Sense (?)
Please educate me, as I fail to see how those tidbits provide context to understanding Lynne Cheney’s comments on CNN.
To me they seem out of context partial truths and innuendoes, highly reminiscent of Republican attack ads.
And you finish with a highly conclusory and unsupported statement regarding “liberal hysterics.” Please cite specific examples of which comments are both liberal and hysterical.
Oh, I know, such analytical skills are beyond your ken. And you’ve already been such a good lap-dog to your master. I wonder, how does it feel to be living proof against the theory of Intelligent Design?
October 28th, 2006 at 7:00 pmWhat a whack job she is. She brings up other issues besides her book then rags on hapless Wolf on why they’re not talking about her book. He should have taken her head on. She’s rude and completely delusional. She say s they inherited a recession, which wasn’t true, yet forgets to include that they inherited a huge surplus which they quickly squandered.

Jim: Among the excerpts is a scene from the 2002 novel “Lost Soldiers,” in which a man embraces his four-year-old son and places the boy’s penis in his mouth.

North Korea – Clinton’s Failing
How many nuclear warheads produced by North Korea under Bush I? How many under Clinton? How many under Bush II? Nice try.
Stock market at all time high (Under Bush)
Great news for the investor class (as opposed to the ever-shrinking middle class).
Recession – Provided by Clinton – Don’t tell me Bush caused this after 2 months as president. Get a grip. The economy began softening months before President Bush took office.
Well then, I guess Bush should have known better than to start cutting revenue from taxes and turning a huge surplus into an even bigger deficit. How much do we owe China and France now? And how much more are we going to borrow that our kids will have to pay back?
Unemployment rate – 4.6%
How much is it if you tally in all the people who have given up hope of finding another job? Do you have any figures for the people who lost jobs and are now employed at lower paying jobs with fewer or no benefits?
Clinton’s response to Cole bombing and FIRST Trade Center bombing – Couple of cruise missles…
A couple means “two”. Look it up. I don’t know of anyone else who rounds down from 50 to 2. Not real keen on math, huh?
How many did Bush fire at bin Laden, since that’s what we’re talking about? Oh, that’s right. He doesn’t know where he is and he’s not real concerned about him. He decided to stop fighting the people who attacked us on 9/11 and to go invade Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11.

Straw men and smoke screens…
You don’t even know what that means. STFU.
October 28th, 2006 at 11:18 pmpoor Mary. both parents are freaks…
October 28th, 2006 at 11:23 pmSome logic textbooks define the straw man fallacy only as a misrepresented argument, however, carefully presenting and refuting a weakened form of an opponent’s argument is not always itself a fallacy. Instead, it restricts the scope of the opponent’s argument, either to where the argument is no longer relevant or as a step of a proof by exhaustion
October 28th, 2006 at 11:24 pmHi Zooey, Hi Katy!

Gotta go now, the Dixie Chicks’ Storytellers is on VH1!
October 29th, 2006 at 12:00 amMs. Cheney’s self-righteous indignation seems to surface every election season. In the last election cycle, Ms. Cheney tried to rally her political base by calling John Kerry “A despicable man” for calling her adult daughter a lesbian.
It just seems to me that Ms. Cheney’s comments have no news value. Consequently, I suggest that the press refuse to give her any more air or print time.

Go check dailykos.com (you’ll have to look back a couple of days) and you will find posted a recent study that shows Democrats much more supportive of our troops based on their voting habits when it comes to legislation that would be beneficial to the troops.

If I may jump in…
North Korea – Clinton’s Failing
Colin Powell wanted to continue Clinton’s policy which was working. Bush told him to drop it. You see the results.
Clinton’s response to Cole bombing and FIRST Trade Center bombing – Couple of cruise missles…
Clinton didn’t respond to the Cole bombing because he didn’t have proof that al Queda was responsible. I guess he could have invaded, oh, I don’t know, a country that had no ties to the Cole bombing, such as Africa, but you know…
Anyway, soon after Bush took office he was given that proof. What was his response? He did nothing.
Clinton was impeached…
And your point is…?
Andrew Johnson was impeached, too. As I recall, most of the charges against him were related to his violation of the Tenure of Office Act when he fired his Sec. of War, Edwin Stanton (the Act stated that he had to get Senate approval, which Johnson viewed as a violation of the separation of powers…so he bucked Congress). This was the “high crime and misdemeanor” part of it. In reality, Congress was pissed at him because he refused to cooperate or compromise over black rights and the reconstruction of Southern state governments. So we have a miffed Congress and a lie about a sexual act as the only reasons for impeaching a President. Your government at work.
Oh, and to show how horrible Pres. Johnson was, in his hometown of nearby Greenville, TN, there is a walking tour of historical sites related to his life, a museum maintained by the National Park Service that details his life and presidency, and a highway and bank named for him.
Enron, Global Crossing, Adelphia – All major corporate scandals under Clinton’s watch.
Ken Lay was Bush’s buddy. You have seen all the notes showing communication between the two, haven’t you? I’m sure you also know that Bush lied about his relationship with Lay.
Anyone remember Whitewater?
You mean that land deal that occurred long before Clinton was President? And this affected America how? It affected his presidency how? Wait…he was convicted of criminal activity related to Whitewater, right?
Speaking of remembrences, does Paula Jones ring a bell? You know, the woman who cried on TV when she described her “encounter” with Bill, then went and got herself a nose job and new hair style so she’d look good on TV. Oh, and let’s not forget the boob job that she showed off to the world in Playboy magazine. Maybe Clinton did go after her, but she sure wasn’t going to let that stand in the way of her 15 minutes of fame.
Clinton’s National Security advisor Sandy Berger illegally removed highly classified documents from the National Archives and intentionally destroyed some of them.
And National Archive personnel testified that they saw him take the documents from the premisis, yet did nothing to stop him. How f*king convenient.
And George Bush Sr. pardoned 6 people involved in the Iran-Contra affair before they went to trial. The Iran-Contra affair, as I recall, was carried out in defiance of Congress’ wishes.
As for getting into wars: Remember Somalia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Haiti?
And remember that Republican members of Congress demanded a timetable for withdrawal and a plan for victory. Also, Republican members of Congress who were against these wars declared that they could indeed support the troops even thought they did not support the President.
Hey, I could go on and on, too.
October 29th, 2006 at 2:45 amShe behaved like a nasty drunk! As a matter of fact she also looked like a drunk. She lied about her book, lied about Bush doing a great job and lied about CNN. She’s one twisted SOB, I guess she heas to be being married to such a scumbag.
October 29th, 2006 at 4:17 amWC: The slapdown of this liar should do like this:
Even though the nukes were attained under GW Bush. Yeah, that is reeaally Clinton’s fault.
About getting a blowjob. Yeah like that really had an impact over the price of eggs.
Only if you don’t adjust for inflation and look back seven years, to, you know, Clinton’s reign.
Actually it was due to Bush – like somebody pointed out: Cut Taxes -> Economy plugs, maybe you shouldn’t have cut taxes.
1: France uses a different formula to work it out.
2: The unemployment rate is pretty meaningless when you consider that wages have not gone up under Bush at all, while inflation has steadily grown.
Actually it was so that America could pay its debts and not end up with the biggest inflation adjusted deficits since WWII. 2004 was the third worst inflation adjusted deficit in America’s history, and it had neither the Manhatten project or rebuilding the American navy to excuse it.
Link please, I seriously suspect that you are a lying douchebag because…
50=/=2 and also, the FIRST WTC bombers were all caught, including the guys who plotted and funded it.
Enron broke in 2001. Well after Clinton’s reign. Check the Wikipedia timeline. Oh yeah, and as I have worked in Auditing, I do not blame the government for being fooled by one of the biggest and most trusted names in Auditing at that time; I just figure it was an indictment of the fact that the big five were not really any good.
Global Crossing died in 2002. Well within Bush’s first term, look it up in Wikipedia. Adelphia was the same year. Look it up in Wikipedia.
So would you like to revise your lies?
Wait a little while. About 2 months after the elections that market is going to crash. The elections are distorting things right now, wait till you see what is really happening.
And a number of them went to Republicans too if I recall correctly. Needless to say the Democrats have cleaned up their act since.
A quote from Wikipedia:
Three separate inquiries found that the Clintons did not participate in any criminal conduct.[2]
He removed copies, not the originals so destroying them wouldn’t exactly have proven productive now would it? If you want to see what he removed, once they are declassified go and look them up. The originals are still there.
So?
which required him to pay a $100 million fine before the charges would be dropped.
Oh, and from the same article on Wikipedia:
Most recently, Marc Rich was linked to former United States Vice Presidential Chief of Staff Lewis “Scooter” Libby. Libby served as Rich’s lawyer as far back as 1985 and charged him US$2 million for legal fees.
The DMCA criminalises taking measures to circumvent copyright protections in software. So yes, thankyou Bill Clinton for making the theft of intellectual property (Also known as software piracy) that much easier to combat.
Remember how few US troops were used in all of the above.
The first quote predates Clinton, and the second, well, so the guy was a bit of a wuss? He was a wuss who was good at his job. Nobody ever claimed Clinton was perfect.
Just pointing out that anybody who can just type the names into Wikipedia can see that you are a dumbass, and a liar.

A reasonable presumption is that there ain’t any. She was absolutely categoric with Blitzer about this – she ain’t so dumb as to risk flat proof the pther way.
Meanwhile Tradesports is showing a preponderance of betting recently against the Dems on key individual House and Senate races – seats that were thought previously to be “in the bag”. The generic national polls are not a good guide to 7 Nov results, even ignoring the known over-sampling of Dem voters in many of those polls.
Polls of individual states, individual races, are what matters. That’s what the evil Karl Rove will be focussing on. eg as listed each day, state by state, at realclearpolitics.com
So some of you good folks here might want to hedge your bets with the odd flutter at Tradesports. Better to back a few likely candidates now overtaking, eg Allen in VA, Corker in Tennessee and Talent in Missouri. And Mark Steele looks am interesting outside bet for Maryland, also Burns in Montana could provide a well-paying surprise. “Follow the money” – watch where the betting looks heavy in recent days as the campaign draws to a close.
A few dollars won on GOP “outsiders” would be a nice offset to any possible nasty hangover on 8 Nov.
Tradesports are showing that Dems do NOT look likely to win Senate control – but could get marginal control of the House.
Happy Days !

October 29th, 2006 at 1:00 pmJohninLondon
Just reading your argument, it looks like you don’t actually care about the issues. You seem only to care that the GOP win.
That is the difference between Liberal and Neocon, Liberals care more about the issues then the candidate: We don’t really care if our top guy is likeable, or if he has a pleasing camera presence or seems like a good guy to have a beer with. We joke about all of that, but what we care about is what he will do about governmental corruption, oversight, out of control congressional spending (Funny that you now have to rely on liberals to point out you are spending too much) and making sure government does its job.
The Republicans have made grand promises, but when the time has come to deliver, what has America gotten? Phantom fences, under-funded school programmes, and lots and lots of pork. Instead of high taxes Americans now have high debts, which leaves them at the mercy of foreign interest rates. Instead of a strong industrial sector with well paying jobs, Americans now have low paying service sector part time jobs.
Instead of paying taxes to get various government services, Americans are now paying taxes for a meaningless war in Iraq, less social welfare and a government which is planning on breaking its contract with the old via privatising social security. Anyone who has ever read up on any firm going bankrupt knows why that is not a good idea. Instead of having a government which reassures them of their safety, they have one that seeks to intimidate them into not voting.
Instead of having a healthy educational sector, America now has creationism in the classrooms, and medical waste being reckoned on as being more human life then foreigners. Instead of a just and equitable system of checks and balances, America now has a president that can declare anyone a alien illegal combatant, arrest them and kill them without letting them see the evidence against them – all in secret.
The times are changing. Americans now save less then before, and their costs are going up. The housing bubble is looking increasingly unstable, the stockmarket is looking shaky, the war in Iraq is increasingly looking like the sort of mistake you don’t let someone make twice. The debt has doubled under Bush.
Americans aren’t struggling, but they aren’t looking as good as they did six years ago, and they certainly are starting to think.
October 29th, 2006 at 1:02 pmI have no clue who the Roger guy is. Someone misused my name the other night and mentioned his. Seemed a cheap trick.

Because I am ex-RAF, have lived a long time now and I really think the whole of the West is under threat. I don’t believe it is “all America’s fault” – the wellspring of jihad is jihad itself, it is central to the belief system of a militant and increasingly numerous strain of Islam. Maybe we see it a bit closer on the streets of London day by day. The London bombings were nothing like as dire as 9/11, of course – but they were by HOME-GROWN fanatics who despise us and simply want to attack the West.
And as an Aussie by origin I recall Bali x 2 – and as I travel a lot I think of Madrid, Morocco, Thailand, Egypt, etc etc etc. Thousands of incidents worldwide, often against other Muslims but also treating the West as inferior and fair game.
I don’t see the UK Tory Party properly recognising the global scale and depth of this threat, let alone our wishy-washy Liberal party. And under present leadership I really don’t think the Dems do either. I suppose by nature I would be a Lieberman Dem, not a Pelosi/Dean/Kerry Dem.
The idea that Bush is a comic is plain dumb, and basing too much of a party on hatred of one’s opponent is dumb too. It misunderestimates him ! And the notion that Bush is destroying American feedoms also looks to me to be hyped. Serious times call for serious counter-measures. Appeasement, retreat and softly-softly treatment of worldwide terrorism will simply encourage the other side to see us as weak, vacillating and worthy of yet more attacks.
You may not agree with this. But you asked a serious question – this is a seriously-held answer.
And if you want the answer in video form, here’s a new set of films that help explain what we are up against :
http://hotair.com/archives/2006/10/28/video-obsession/
Its a bit like the 1930s. Either we recognise and face up to the threats, or they will catch us anyway. I don’t think Jack and Robert Kennedy would take the Kerry et al line.

John -
It is difficult to believe that you have spent much time watching or listening to the clown we are currently moaning under over here. Perhaps you are right: “clown” is wrong — there is nothing comic about Bush, although his hideous malapropisms might appeal in some strange way to someone well read in Shakespeare or Dickens. There is nothing comic about the fact that the President of the United States is a moron, and it is difficult to escape coming to that conclusion (at least it is for me) if you spend any time whatsoever listening to him speak. It is an embarrassment.
As for your “serious times” statement, at the risk of having Godwin’s Law read against me, I can counter each “this is like the Nazis” statement you make, only from a perspective I doubt you intend. Perhaps the next “serious counter-measure” will involve deporting or otherwise silencing all the “degenerate” artists?

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/opinion/baroneblog/archives/061025/an_interview_wi_1.htm#more
I also watched his public appearance last week.
Didn’t sound like any kind of moron to me. Yes, he sometimes seems tongue-tied at Press Conferences – but the real question is – is he a CEO, does he work hard at the job, is he seriously watching out for the US ? And above all – does he have any real vision ?
There are all manner of criticisms of Bush. Too lax on spending. too lax on illegal immigration when it hurts the ordinary working guy, sometimes too trusting of foreign statesmen like Putin and Chirac. But moron he is not.

I teach college freshmen to do research (and have taught high school freshmen the same); any student who pulled a stunt like that would not pass my class. However, clearly standards of research obvious to teenagers go out the window in the Karl Rove universe.
What I can’t imagine is why this small band of Clinton haters persist in trashy a man who has been, after all, out of office for 6 years. Since then, the Bush administration waited 8 months and 12 days to get serious about bin Laden. They used 9/11 as a front to launch an invasion they had been talking about since Bush 41; they argued against a 9/11 commission to investigate the worst attack on the continental U.S. They went to war in Iraq without adequate troops for the occupation–and of course got rid of the general who told them they needed more. They outsourced what used to be military jobs to civilian contractors without bids, to the detriment of the military and to the taxpayers who might as well just sign over their paychecks to Halliburton; they have allowed their contractors to provide substandard services to our military and to ignore military and civilian law. They have seized, imprisoned, and tortured prisoners against international law, while at the same time expanding the president’s power at the expense of our Constitutional guarantees against government intrusion, including the rights of habeus corpus, a speedy trial, and an opportunity to face our accusers. They have weaseled, waffled and lied about why they invaded Iraq as well as their intention to establish a “friendly” (puppet) government that will allow massive permanent military bases–in other words, a permanent occupation. They have “spun” the news, planted a reporter at the White House press briefings, paid for propaganda here and abroard, and then whined like babies about Michael Moore (who was right about pretty much everything) and any journalist who operates in the reality-based world.
But here’s the kicker: when the citizens of New Orleans were stranded on rooftops, drowning, stranded without food, water or shelter, while the rest of the country watched in shock and agony: Bush went to bed at his accustomed 9:30; his handlers had to wake him up and show him a video summary of what the rest of us had been watching since the levees broke. Cheney was on vacation and stayed there. Condoleeza Rice shopped for shoes and went to a broadway show.
But people like Common Sense want to rehash Bill Clinton’s sex life and some marginal real estate deal that didn’t make anywhere near as much as W’s brother made from peddling education materials to districts in Texas (or, for that matter, what that same brother cost ordinary people in the Silverado savings and loan debacle.) George Bush could go to sleep without a second thought while an American city was destroyed and its residents died on the streets. Here’s some real common sense: there is something horribly wrong with these people, and we will be lucky to survive two more years with them in charge.
October 29th, 2006 at 8:18 pmTwo comments on the Lynne Cheney interview.
1. Blitzer is a republican shill. This was a setup. Wolf never challenged her claims.
2. She is such a liar that she lied about her Lesbian Lovers book. It did not matter to Lynne Cheney that anybody could simply read the passages in her book (in her own words) to see that she was lying. She’s truly a sick woman.
October 29th, 2006 at 8:58 pmAll that really matters is that the Cheney’s have made money hand over fist. They don’t have to be right. They don’t have to be smart. They don’t have to protect you. They don’t have to win the war on terra.
They’ll be laughing all the way to the south american bank.

October 29th, 2006 at 10:16 pmOf 116 news items by 3 news channels-
63 favor the Dems
7 Favor Republican
46 are neutral
Maybe it isn’t so much “favoring the Dems” as noting, correctly, that a) the country, currently being controlled by Republicans in the White House and a Republican majority in Congress, is a mess. Simply reporting the facts out of Iraq is a negative for the Republicans. Thus, the story is that their majority is in trouble. If the Democrats were running behind in the polls, all you would be reading about is how they could screw up a one-car funeral.
Even mainline conservatives are “favoring” the Democrats–was it the most recent National Review in which conservatives (Joe Scarborough was one) said the Republicans SHOULD lose the majority?
Incumbency is very powerful, but it can also be a huge disadvantage when the country is clearly going in the wrong direction (e.g., Jimmy Carter in 1980–with a little help from an arms-for-hostages “October surprise.”) When a party is in power, it has to govern, and then it has to run on its record. Like it or not.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:10 pmDid I catch that right? Did she say that the Administration started off and fought through a recession? How was the economy exactly right before their claim to office?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:45 pmHey #410,
October 30th, 2006 at 10:48 ammaybe you don’t remember when Slick sicked Jan the man and the justice department on Gates which triggard the plunge of the NASDAQ. Billy Gates wasn’t bellying up to the bar. All inherited by the currant admin. Lynne Chaney has a strong sexiness that I saw in Maggie Thatcher. Strong conservitive women make me stand up and pay attention!!!!!!
That was quite a marvelous interview. Wolf keep up pinning folks down. It’s good for the world.

[...] In an interview today with Fox News, Vice President Cheney said his wife’s combative recent CNN appearance was “great” and “very accurate,” adding, “We refer to it around the house as the slapdown.” Watch it: var flvchenslap320240 = new SWFObject(’/wp-content/plugins/flvplayer.swf?file=http://images1.americanprogress.org/il80web20037/ThinkProgress/flv/2006/10/chenslap.320.240.flv&autoStart=false’, ‘em-flvchenslap320240′, ‘320′, ‘260′, ‘6′, ‘#ffffff’); flvchenslap320240.addParam(’quality’, ‘high’); flvchenslap320240.addParam(’wmode’, ‘transparent’); flvchenslap320240.write(’flvchenslap320240′); [...]
October 30th, 2006 at 3:29 pmCheney’s book described a love affair. webb’s book describes in lurid detail sex acts including a man sodomizing his own son, and a stripper cutting banannas with her privates. Of course, this pathetic site cannot see the difference.
October 30th, 2006 at 3:37 pmA most outstanding bitch slapping put on the seditious, parasitic punk Blitzer of CNN…
I’m betting the short bus riding lib-tards on this site think (which is a rather broad assumption that they can) Blitzer held his head high with dignity…
October 30th, 2006 at 4:44 pmCheney kicked Blitzer’s butt but good. Way to go Lynn! I just wish the Republican men had the spine of the Republican women.

October 31st, 2006 at 9:12 amHow brave you all are to post on your safe little spot here on the big old Web about how rotten and evil the Cheneys are! There are things going on in the world that you cannot and will not even try to understand. You all pretend to know better than anyone else on the face of the planet on how do cure ills, fix social security, combat terrorism, end global warming, etc. and yet, you never post your ideas. Why is that? Why is it that all you can do is try to come up with clever sayings like, “The Three little GOPigs†or, “reichwing troll.” Yeah, comparing the Republican party to the Nazis is so passe. Get a new line, puh-leeze! That one is getting old. Especially given that it’s the left that wants to silence those that don’t agree with them! For the most part, liberals are made up of those that can’t leave the sixties behind, those that wish that were alive in the sixties and none of you can grow up. Sophmoric and childish you all are – at best! Oh, and by the way, I’m a cut and run kind of guy like you all are too. Only my cut and run only means that I won’t be back to this silly little Website to see all the hatred and vitriolic comments that you will, no doubt, be directing at me. Bahahaa! Foam and flail you losers!
October 31st, 2006 at 11:10 amNot at all surprsing coming from the DNN. Democratic News Network. No wonder your listnership is slipping.
October 31st, 2006 at 6:35 pmLynne Cheney was right on in her assessment of Bill Clinton’s legacy. If those of you who deny that Bill Clinton was responsible for the 2001 recession would do your homework then you would realize that Mrs. Cheney is correct. In 1999, Bill Clinton pressed OPEC to raise oil prices in order to finance the Chechnyan war. The reason he did this was that he needed Russia’s help resolving the Kosovo conflict.
However, this backfired & he was unable to aid Boris Yeltsin directly. Clinton used OPEC to supply Russia with increased energy profits and, by doing so, indirectly funded corruption by the Soviet state run company. In addition to the Soviet corruption, these oil sales also helped our good friend in Iraq, Saddam Hussein, re-arm his military with an air defense system. This “brilliant” move by Clinton is now seen as the contributing factor to the recession.
Under Bush’s tax cuts, our economy is thriving again, which is amazing (as Lynne Cheney pointed out) despite 9/11, Hurricane Katrina & the fact that we are currently involved in 2 wars. Quite simply, Republicans are clearly more capable of handling our economy & providing homeland security than the Democrats. I admire Mrs. Cheney for pointing out to Wolf Blitzer what is obvious to so many Americans regarding CNN’s liberal bias. The fact that CNN showed Al Qaeda’s surveillance footage of U.S. soldiers & subsequently showed footage of a U.S. soldier being killed as a result is appalling. What if their family was watching & realized they just witnessed their son’s death on CNN? It is inconceivable that they would air such a horrendous segment solely for ratings.
Regarding the Iraq war, our presence there was not only to provide Democracy to the people & remove Saddam from power, we are also there to keep an eye on Iran’s nuclear ambitions. This was planned before we invaded Iraq, we couldn’t have possibly had broad access to Iran had Saddam remained in power. Also, by promoting a democracy in Iraq, the Iranian people may desire the same freedoms as their neighbors and attempt to oust their leader themselves.
I cringe at the thought of the Democrats gaining control of the House & Senate, or worse, the Presidency in ‘08. The Democrats will attempt to raise taxes in order to trim the deficit. However, this will backfire. Bush’s tax cuts are well on their way to trimming the deficit. If the Democrats also try to cut the military presence in Iraq, there will most certainly be a civil war in that region. The Iraqi police & military are not yet equipped to handle the insurgency and the situation will escalate. This would create more enemies for the U.S. because we would be seen by the world as abandoning the Iraqi people. Please people think before you vote Democratic!!!
November 1st, 2006 at 2:05 amMost of the comments on this site are truly frightening – mostly in their very distorted and unbelievably biased perspective. Do you guys really believe what you’re saying? This is scary stuff. I think John Kerry was wrong – not all the dumb people got stuck in Iraq. Oh, I forgot. That was a joke.
Look out for the black helicopters. They’re coming – or have you all moved on to other things now.
November 2nd, 2006 at 9:53 pmI am so sick and tired of both sides down grading each other, what happen to the idea of what they will do for the people and for the world. Right now they are all a bunch of scumbags. If the people would take a good look at both parties and see what they were like 60 years ago you would say the demo’s are now taken the Rep possition and the Rep’s the Demo’s. I used to vote Demo, but now I vote for who puts out the least trash. Right now if you vote in the Demo’s your take home pay will be less that is just the way it is, tax tax. Wake up people wake up.
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:20 pmYou guys are truly frightening with your sixth-grade Michael Moore political philosophty. Bravo to Lynne Cheney for smacking CNN for their biased reporting.
