Bill O’Reilly has taped an episode of CBS’s “Late Show With David Letterman” set to air tonight. During the show, Letterman “machine-guns him with insults,” prompting O’Reilly to say, “It isn’t so black and white, Dave – it isn’t, ‘We’re a bad country. Bush is an evil liar.’ That’s not true.” Letterman responds, “I didn’t say he was an evil liar. You’re putting words in my mouth, just the way you put artificial facts in your head!”
Oh, snap! Well, I know what I’m watching tonight.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:08 pmSounds like it will be interesting show > somebody needs to clobber O’Reilly > he deserves it for being a Bush loving fascist!
October 27th, 2006 at 1:10 pmMmmm, I can’t WAIT.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:11 pmAll you ThinkProgress/Center for American Progress types like to blurt out of “brave” it is for a Demcocrat to go on FOX and what a tremendous service it is for Democrats to present their case to “the other side”.
That, of course, is complete BUNK.
O’Reilly is brave for going on Letterman, for sure. He goes on there to whore his book and he takes it from Letterman like a whore.
Letterman knows what FOX is.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:14 pmAmericans know what FOX is.
Americans know people like Juan Williams and Alan Colmes get paid by this professional evil Neocon propaganda machine.
Why doesn’t Kerry and the Democratic party know?
Yep, O’Reilly doesn’t “sugar coat” facts. He makes them entirely of aspartame.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:15 pmThink Really Small because any thoughts with more than five letters in them are too big to understand. Fear, smear, gay, evil, bomb – these are nice little words that don’t take up too much brain space.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:19 pmdeparting from the thread, it would be worth everyone’s while to visit spiegel to read their interview of ron suskind on torture and black sites…
And, yes, I DO take it personally
October 27th, 2006 at 1:22 pmO’Reilly just said something disparaging about the President. Can CBS air the program?
October 27th, 2006 at 1:22 pmI’m not sure I understand, PLC. But know this:
FOX gives Republicans their power.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:23 pmWhen Democrats go on FOX they give Republicans power.
Destroy FOX one groveling Democrat at a time.
O’Reilly is going down in flames, just like the rest of the perverted GOP.
Do you believe how self-destructive this Congress has become? This upcoming election is not an election, it’s an intervention.”
October 27th, 2006 at 1:24 pm—Jay Leno
Well, it seems that we have two people in the media that get it and have a pair, Keith Olbermann and David Letterman. I’ll be watching tonight just to see a bully get his.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:24 pmAnd so the implosion proper begins.
Remember kids, no mercy. *hands out torches and pitchforks*
October 27th, 2006 at 1:27 pmO’reilly is a perfect GrOPer hypocrite and a predator ala falafel to boot!
Bwahahahaaa, BORe’s just another member of the GrOPredator Club!
October 27th, 2006 at 1:29 pmOnce you have the masses believing monosyllabic absurdities, it is easy to get them to commit atrocities.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:33 pmi’m surprised he’d come back after the last spanking he got from dave… “60%…is crap”… that was so great…
October 27th, 2006 at 1:33 pmHmm, Letterman vs bloviating O”Reilly on CBS and The Dixie Chicks on ABC’s Nightline – watch one, tape one.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:34 pmEven Oprah is putting O’Reilly on her show. Yes, he is brave for venturing out into the real world (the true “no-spin zone”). But putting a lying windbag like O’Reilly on any mainstream TV show is like putting a circus parrot in a debate.
It’s also frightening because it lends him credibility, as if he were actually a man with legitimate opinions, when all he is is a paid Republican shill doing a shtick.

October 27th, 2006 at 1:35 pmI’m gonna get one O’dem punkin kits and make a bush face and then put smoking bright red flares, yeh, beady red eyes, smelling all sulfury brimstone and fire, like the evil debbil!!
October 27th, 2006 at 1:36 pmTo me, O’Reilly will always be Lying Man.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:37 pmValue voter! Value Voter! Value voter!
October 27th, 2006 at 1:38 pmtwo legs good bald rove better!
two legs good bald rove better!
o’liely will pay for his ‘book plug’ by letting letterman bash him…go david GO!……it’s taped so cbs security won’t be on red alert tonight. How about SUPPRISE GUEST…MICHAEL J. FOX!….
October 27th, 2006 at 1:38 pmHaven’t had a boob-tube for goin’ on 30 years now, but I’m sure gonna go out and watch some tonight!
October 27th, 2006 at 1:38 pmHey Dave, what’s the Top Ten gonna be about? How about O’Really’s toes as they are the last thing of him to be seen as he sinks into oblivion?
Good for Dave!
October 27th, 2006 at 1:40 pmIt’s a measure of the astounding arrogance of O’Reilly that he even thinks he can stand in the same room with Letterman and argue about something. Letterman always makes him look stupid and foolish, because he is stupid and foolish. He’s a buffoon and perfect comedic fodder for a pro like Letterman.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:43 pmBush may be looking to blame Gen. Casey
October 27th, 2006 at 1:45 pm[[Gen Casey better start cleaning his sword cause the Rabid Fux Nugget Nutwork of Nitwits and BORe may soon be trying to stab him with it]]

October 27th, 2006 at 1:49 pmBigCynic, more Republicans watch Dave than Libs watch FOX.
October 27th, 2006 at 1:50 pmO’Lielly is just whoring his new book and appearing on Letterman to show how hip he is. Surprise!
October 27th, 2006 at 1:58 pm#29…..The perfect storm!
October 27th, 2006 at 2:02 pmRepublicraps are going to have to do a lot of cheating to make up a 19 point gap! I’m sure they’re working on it.

You may also want to include Amy Goodman, who hosts Democracy Now! on Free Speech TV, as being among the very few in the media who does “get it.” Democracy Now! and the other programs on Free Speech TV can show their programs because they are not beholden to the corporate interests. Nowhere else can Americans see these types of progressive topics on the television airwaves.
October 27th, 2006 at 2:25 pmBest campaign slogan of 06′.
Bush cut and ran from Af-ghan-is-tan.
October 27th, 2006 at 3:22 pmBO just does Letterman as a play for sympathy from his base. I don’t care how tall BO is, he’s a tiny man.
October 27th, 2006 at 3:24 pmLarry, will you sign an autograph for me? Please…?
October 27th, 2006 at 3:25 pmYou’re not charging yet, are you? Heh.
I haven’t watched Letterman regularly since the early 90’s. I am going to be planted, planted in front of the TV. This should be fun. Finally, someone with the balls to call out the bully o’reilly. Even Jon Stewart I thought let all the neocons off the hook last week or the week before, like Ashcroft and Baker.
October 27th, 2006 at 4:00 pmLarry, will you sign an autograph for me?…
Comment by Zooey — October 27, 2006 @ 3:25 pm
about that – good on ya Larry from C…
this is no reflection on you, larry, but when i saw those damn + signs in your name at altercation, i was embarrassed for ThinkProgress in that they STILL haven’t fixed the bugs in their comment section…
October 27th, 2006 at 6:37 pmwtf, judd?
.
Video is up on C&L. While Letterman definitely sticks it to him, he also comes off as kinda scatterbrained. Dave’s quite fiesty, right from the get go, even when billy boy tries to play nice nice. But overall it’s great seeing o’reilly get pushed back upon.
October 28th, 2006 at 8:51 am
Coming from a person who has nothing against Letterman OR O’Reilly… I must say Dave came off as a political nut (never seen him like that before) while O’Reilly provided the comic relief and controlled the audience. I think Dave meant well but his emotions got the better of him and O’Reilly hands down came out better in the eyes of me and most of my buds who saw it (They don’t even know who Bill O’Reilly is… they were just like “Dave is insane tonight… and people say this Bill guy is a bully!?”).
From the comments above I’m getting a sense that most on this site will leap at an opportunity to scorn Mr. O’Reilly and thus are calling this a win for Dave. I just thought I’d let you know my perspective as someone without a dog in the hunt. I just hope Dave is back in his element on Monday. The whole thing did make me curious though. I will probably read O’Reilly’s book, but I will wait for it to come out in paperback or become cheaper.
October 28th, 2006 at 10:13 pmwow, all you liberals love everyone huh…..except for the 50+% of us who disagree with you
October 30th, 2006 at 3:43 pmObviously this is a ridiculous website that is completey one sided. You guys can keep kidding yourselves all day long. Letterman isn’t even the hair on the pimple of the ass of O’Reilly when it comes to political knowledge and understanding. Dave is a comedian, just like Al Franken, and neither has any business engaging in politics when they are motivated by emotion and not knowledge. Ha ha ha….stay in la la land people, that’s where you all obviously belong.
October 30th, 2006 at 5:47 pmCould someone please tell me the name of the band, with 3 girls singing, that performed on the Letterman vs. O’Reilly show?
