This morning on ABC’s This Week, George Stephanopoulos asked House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) whether he agreed with the growing number of prominent conservatives who think Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld should resign.
Boehner said that “Rumsfeld is the best thing that’s happened to the Pentagon in 25 years.” He told Stephanopoulos the buck should stop nowhere. “Let’s not take the problems in Iraq, the tough fight that we’re in there and blame it on anyone.” Watch it:
Transcript:
STEPHANOPOULOS: Let me just ask one more question on this. Your own senators, I said Mike DeWine, thinks Rumsfeld has to go. Do you agree?
BOEHNER: I think Donald Rumsfeld is the best thing that’s happened to the Pentagon in 25 years. This Pentagon and our military needs a transformation and I think Donald Rumsfeld is the only man in America who knows where the bodies are buried at the Pentagon, has enough experience to help transform that institution. Let’s not take the problems in Iraq, the tough fight that we’re in there and blame it on anyone. We’re in a tough fight. Al Qaeda is doing everything they can to disrupt our efforts in Iraq, to disrupt the new government, creating more violence than anyone can imagine and defeating al Qaeda there is important, because if we were to pull out before we win, we will embolden every terrorist in every corner of the world and then instead of fighting them in Iraq, we’ll be fighting them on every street in America.
This Pentagon and our military needs a transformation
Even as we speak, George, we’re turning them into cannon fodder…
…and I think Donald Rumsfeld is the only man in America who knows where the bodies are buried at the Pentagon…
Oops, I probably shouldn’t have said that…
…has enough experience to help transform that institution.
Into a clown college.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:09 amAre there ANY NeoCon talking points Boehner missed?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:10 amJesus H. Christ on a unicycle!! They are still saying this crap!?!?! How laughable.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:12 amI wish it were laughable. Boenher is disgusting.
AND……why has there been so little attention on his cover up in the Foley mess. They sure shut that down effectively didn’t they. It’s all locked up in a Republican run “investigation.”
Boenher is as guilty as Hastert. We need to hold him accountable. He is a real bad slime bag
October 29th, 2006 at 11:14 amWhat a ridiculous claim. What Mr. Rumsfeld is trying to do is turn every military branch into the Air Force – the branch whose closest experience with combat is dropping missiles from airplanes. Unfortunately, it’s a flawed model. Certainly, military personnel (of whatever branch) benefit from increasing their technological sophistication. But that does not necessarily equate to a lowered need for “boots on the ground” when conflicts arise. Some aspects of war do not scale – that is, some military operations – especially occupation – require large numbers of trained and motivated individuals. Democracy isn’t the only that can’t be dropped from the sky.
What worries me most is the enormous damage Mr. Rumsfeld is doing to our future capacity to defend the country. How many soldiers would be willing to spend the next 10-15 years of their life in under-manned, under-equipped war zones? How does Mr. Rumsfeld think this will effect the ongoing quality of a voluntary military?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:18 amhere in Ohio Boehner is refered to as Chester the protector of child molesters
October 29th, 2006 at 11:19 amCome on! Boner rents his Washington apartment from a tobacco lobbyist.
He’s not above saying or doing anything to maintain Republican control of Congress.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:20 am“I think Donald Rumsfeld is the best thing that’s happened to the Pentagon in 25 years.”
I wonder how many spit takes that one caused across the country?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:22 amwow….
625,000+ DEAD.
and this is the best thing that has happened to Iraq…..? Thats like saying the holocaust is the best thing thats happened to Jews. He should resign immediately. This is beyond politically ignorant, it borders on bigoted hatred & support of genocide.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:22 ama real Boner for Dumbsfeld
October 29th, 2006 at 11:24 amunder full sail of cynicism, i once again maintain that the bush administration has no desire to quell violence or to see iraq stabilized… the presence of american troops continue to fuel the insurgency, which continues to fuel the islamic jihad, which, in turn, keeps alive the so-called gwot, and provides bushco with the endless war they so desperately desire, and to complete the makeover of the united states into a totalitarian dictatorship… so far, it’s working like a charm…
And, yes, I DO take it personally
October 29th, 2006 at 11:25 amWhat a heap of Bull…Boner is afraid he’ll lose his coveted position…
October 29th, 2006 at 11:29 amRumsfeld should have never been in charge.
Lock Skelator Rumsfeld in his crow’s cage atop the mast and fly a neocon pirate flag over the Pentagon.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:30 am#8 – Hey Wayne, I looked at your new blog, of course I love it. When are you going to put up a new post? The first line of the current one just isn’t doing it for me. :P
Luckily, I gathered my courage and read the whole thing…
October 29th, 2006 at 11:30 amI hold Bush, his administartion, the republicans and big business to blame for the biggest fiasco in US history. And that includes this lying freak.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:31 amThis clown like the others in congress are totally missing the point. Mr. Rumsfeld is a poor manager and an even worse leader. I’m not sure what the count is up to now of generals and others who are quietly calling for his resignation. But those who have spoken out have been quickly silenced, have you noticed. The only line being allowed is the Republican line and NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO STRAY from this bull sh-t line if reasoning.
And this turkey still is blaming it all on Al-Quidia. Sure they probably have a hand in it but every swinging dick in the middle east is getting their jollies at the moment screwing with the US and its military.
Well one solution is to educate, medicate and evacuate. That way we leave behind an educated population with access to health care, power and roads, clean water, and the ability to be self sufficient. That is all these folks want. Then we can leave them allone to fight it out amongst themselves, which is necessary in any civil war.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:34 amDaylight savings time, Judd.
Set your server clock.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:36 am#14 Thanks, Zooey,
There are technical issues over at blogspot, and I have been having problems updating it. I need to do something about that incredibly long Crusades history lesson (I’m trying to learn how to do “collapsed posts”), and I have another song parody that I’m trying to get published on there, but it won’t take. I still have a lot to learn about the whole thing, and I eventually want to set up my own domain, but until then I have to learn on the free stuff (and, as we all know, you get what you pay for.)
Thanks for your interest. When I am able to get it working again and I can post “The Detainee’s Lament”, I’ll let you know. I’m not sure, but there might be some way for it to automatically notify you of changes (some blogs can do that, I don’t know if the one I use can.)
October 29th, 2006 at 11:39 am[...] See the video here. [...]
October 29th, 2006 at 10:44 amThanks, Wayne! You know I’ll keep checking, growing pains and all. :)

October 29th, 2006 at 10:57 am.
oh, and the commentary by ben stein on cbs morning is pretty good, till he gets to the part about a “blue ribbon committee” needed to discuss a different plan for “60, 90, 120 days” down the road…
October 29th, 2006 at 11:02 ammore of the same…

“who knows where the bodies are buried at the Pentagon”
seriously, what the hell does that mean?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:05 amDoes he honstly mean that?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:08 amTP,
Unless you go back and do something with the previous posts, this dialog is going to be confusing as hell to follow (as, I imagine, will the other active threads.) The time change is putting later posts ahead of earlier ones. Have fun with it, I have to go home now. See you tomorrow.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:10 am“we’re nothing more, in congress, than a slice of america”…
uh… NOT ! … used to be, supposed to be, but not now…
October 29th, 2006 at 11:13 amok… something’s very screwed up here…

October 29th, 2006 at 11:15 am“Let’s not take the problems in Iraq, the tough fight that we’re in there and blame it on anyone.â€
So just because we started it doesn’t mean it’s our fault. Those damn ungrateful Iraqis should stop complaining and just let us kill them.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:17 amIs this brainless moron going to be re-elected in Ohio?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:19 amdon’t we have a surgeon general? within that department, is there not a psychiatrist general?
we have lunatics, hysterions, paranoids, freakazoids, and a wide cluster of mentally ill people in our rulership.
aren’t there any requirements that the people that rep us (thats a laugh) should be required to submit to mental testing?
I don’t think many would pass the basic requirements of being able to recognize fantasy and reality. I am not referring to concepts here, but basic clinical observations.
this fellow defends someone notably and clinically sociopathic as competent. I wonder what this makes the boner? just a liar? one unable to recognize that which are obvious to others? or a member of the group?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:21 amwhere else do sociopath’s get to collect in a group, outside prison?
The Pentagon transformation that Boehner (what a name, boner) is talking about is the transformation from protecting Americans from the enemies outside our nation and to shifting the focus on the enemies as defined by Bush within our nation by preparing the military for martial law.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:24 amAnd it was a bad thing for Hillary to say that she will stand by her man…
There is not anything lower than a lying , crooked, Republican coward…in my fifty nine years, I have never seen lower criminals in control of congress…these people cannot be trusted, EVER!
VOTE DEMOCRAT. I DID.

October 29th, 2006 at 11:26 amor
“What a Boehner”
oh! how about the fact that george s. invited limpball on the show, to give his side of the mjfox story, would even go to him, and he declined…
very good interview of mjfox… i listened, didn’t watch…
October 29th, 2006 at 11:27 amI always regret when I listen to my Boner before using my brain
October 29th, 2006 at 11:29 amOK, let me see if I can get this right Boner. Are you saying that Rummy has done a good job by shortchanging the war in Iraq by sending in too few troops? And that by going in on the cheap, in an effort to keeep costs down (gotta pay for those tax cust for Paris (Who me- WORK?! )using mechanisms like using faulty body armour is an acceptable policy? And I though DuMbya was stupid! But apparently you’re both taking the same medications, you know the ones that supress the thought process. GD Idiot.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:30 amBoehner is a corrupt, disgusting wretch and he will say anything to make the Republican leadership and the Bush crime machine look good.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:32 amWhat a friggin Looney Tune! One of the main problems in Iraq right now is that we didn’t accomplish ANY post-war planning, and the consequences of that are manifesting themselves in the increasing deaths of our troops and the Iraqi’s themselves. And who is to blame? Rumsfeld!
Rumsfeld, with his utter arrogance and refusal to heed the advice of seasoned battle-field commanders, bears much of the responsibility for the complete chaos that now reigns in Iraq.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:35 amBoehner: Whenever I see Rumsfeld I have a … Boehner…yes, thats my last name.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:35 amHi Wayne,
Just checked out your blog. Looks good.
Seems like there is a technical issue here because my last comment didn’t get posted so I’ll try again.
The transformation that Boehner (pronouced “boner”) was referring to was the military transforming from protecting us “over there” to protecting us “over here” when Bush declares Martial Law.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:37 amRumsfeld is the worse thing to ever have happened to the Pentagon! Rummy is incompetent and guilty of war crimes! Shame on Rep. Boehner!
October 29th, 2006 at 11:37 amTP not perfect?….I like the way they handle trolls. When I see a post in responce to a deleted troll, I smile knowing TP is cool…yawn…damn clocks..did I forget any…lol.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:41 amSomething weird is happening on this thread. I’m sure Wayne would enjoy having the last word on all topics, and maybe he should, but this is ridiculous!
October 29th, 2006 at 11:43 amHey Zooey, Have you noticed just plain missing posts?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:46 amOff course Dummy is the best thing that has happened to Pentagon.
Before him, the generals used to be combat veteran’s who understood strategy, battle tactics etc., and lived by the rules of engagement and all the Geneva Conventions, the US Constitution, UCMJ and all other laws that govern the military and war.
Now, they are a bunch of ass kissing former supply seargents who have been elevated to the rank of a genral, and they do nothing but kiss the ass of Herr Reich Fuhrer Feldmarshal Ron von Rumsfeldt.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:46 amZooey, also have you posted and they have just not shown up?
October 29th, 2006 at 11:47 amall posts before the clocks were changed back one hour (a little after 11:45AM >>>10:45AM )were automatically put the end of the thread. October 29th, 2006 at 12:07 pmWhen Boehner said that I almost fell out of my chair. The man is part robot and you need no other proof as to why Republicans have to give up control of the House.
October 29th, 2006 at 12:12 pm“fighting them on every street in America”
We have FEAR for sale, half price! Get yours now today!
October 29th, 2006 at 12:16 pmThat’s exactly why they are about to lose the majority!
The gap between reality and the GOP’s third rate propaganda is already a chasm and it’s getting wider as every day passes.
October 29th, 2006 at 12:30 pmBest SoD for 25 years? Since Cap “the knife” Weinberger? I think not! Rummy would be very nervous if Cap were standing behind him. What a Boner!
October 29th, 2006 at 12:42 pmDuhh–what the hell else would anyone expect old Johnny Boy to say?–He is one of the Republican party’s spin meister in chief–I live in a military area with a very large military base (Wright-Patterson AFB) not far from Boehner’s district.
I had spoken with some neighbors who are AF officers who told me back in the ramp up to Iraq–many of the officer corp in all branches of the military were not in favor of going into Iraq but the word came down the line–”you follow the plan or you can look for another career.” So it was basically, put up, shut up and straighten up and fly right or your ass is out of the service–when they booted some of the top brass who did oppose the war–that is what happened.
Another thing-I am a veteran myself and get my health care at the VA—one day this summer I was out at the center for a check up and a report came up on the television in the waiting area about something that was going on in Iraq at the time and it featured Rummy giving one of his spinnfilled BS tirades–
you should have heard the boos and the hisses the came from that crowd—one guy even yelled out–”I wish it was like it was back in Vietnam–somebody needs to frag that bastard!!!!
From what I gather anedoctally—I don’t think there is much love for old Rummy either in the ranks of the active military establishment nor with veterans–at least not the ones present that day at the VA Med Center in Dayton, Ohio—a place that if anybody had love for Rummy –it should be that place.
October 29th, 2006 at 1:05 pmThis person (Boehner) is IMHO a truly evil entity. He exudes an aura of complete contempt for any and all human virtues.
October 29th, 2006 at 1:11 pmYou could paste his face onto the Grinch and the story would not skip a beat.
You’re a foul one, Mr. Boehner…………
exceedingly stenchful………
The two bit bug killing con man whose place he took was a simple Sunday school teacher compared to this scumwad……..
“Fighting terrorists on every street”? Shamless fearmongering.
October 29th, 2006 at 1:12 pmAnd what is more of shame, is that plenty of people will buy it.
Could anyone possibly be more clueless?
October 29th, 2006 at 1:14 pmWhat else would you expect Boehner to say–he is one of the cogs in the Republican machine—as long as Rummy is in favor with the powers that be—Boehner will sing his praises—hell–they have to “stay the course” and keep to script irrespective of reality–hell–who can trust reality anyway–it has a liberal bias for God sake!!!!!
October 29th, 2006 at 1:16 pmno responsibility, no morals, no hope, just fear. ignorant people still can’t see how terrible these chumps govern.
October 29th, 2006 at 1:19 pmWe are already fighting “them” on every street in America. They’re called Neo-Cons. Republicans. Wing-nuts. Christian terrorists. They’re already here.
I find it instructive that Boenher says Rumsfeld is qualified because he “knows where all the bodies are buried”. So he is the guy we need because he can blackmail the military to get his way? Or does he mean all the bodies that never made it out of Gitmo? Rumsfeld is warmed over McNamara, for God’s sake!
October 29th, 2006 at 1:36 pmWow, the comments are really f*cked up now. Must be that Y2K glitch.
Yep, ren, I noticed a lot of my finest bloviations disappear into the ether. The world is worse off for it, too. It’s all TP’s fault.

October 29th, 2006 at 2:15 pmHey? Then Just say “Judd”….right? WTF “Management”?
October 29th, 2006 at 2:17 pmSo the Republicans would change the debate to whether or not we like Rumsfeld or Bush, not on the fact that the two have committed mass murder.
The new talking point: you want to get rid of this Administration just because you don’t like them. It has nothing to do with competence (ore the lack thereof). It has nothing to do with blowing up tens of thousands of INNOCENT children, women and men. It has nothing to do with authorizing torture, secret renditions, international war crimes. It has nothing to do with … you just don’t like Bush. Next, I suppose we’ll see, people liked Clinton and everything that happened under Bush is Clinton’s fault. So, that’s why people don’t like Bush. It’s Clinton’s fault.
October 29th, 2006 at 2:23 pmren, zooey, did you see my “huh?” at 52 ?

BUT, “they” wouldn’t exist if dipshits like Boehner hadn’t tried to force corporate “democracy” (our version) on the Iraqis at gunpoint. They’re all so damn stupid that it’s entirely possible that they believed Chalabi’s BS because they wanted to, and they are stupid. Iraq’s freedom fighters (freedom from our occupation that is) probably will at some point decide that we need to have our American noses truly bloodied. It’s all on Bush, Cheney, Halliburton and their cabal of self-interested drones. Traitors would be the noun for this administration. Every last one of them.

Oooooookaaaaay. I suppose these braindead children called republicans think there is a 3 million strong terrorist cell with tanks and planes and whatever. These Republicans are just repeater dishes!…they say the same uneducated, irrational things over and over.
Oh! the Republicans also say “don’t blame anyone”…right, that’s because the one to blame doesn’t want any consequences!…don’t blame me, (because I’ll get in trouble) is what he isn’t saying.
Pychopaths, criminals, irresponsible children = Republicans/Conservatives.
Seems like these Republicans have no brains in their skulls. Only motive for Republicans is to be a bigot your whole life and gain as much power and irrational control and interference as you can, because your scared.

Where have we heard those very words before? Has this Boehner ever had an original thought in his life? And he also says, let’s not blame Iraq on anyone. Well whadyaknow, Clinton got away clean this time.

November 3rd, 2006 at 11:18 amNOTHING BUT MORE BULLSH*T AND LIES FROM THE “BUSH CRIME FAMILY”
[...] We all know power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. We’ve seen numerous examples throughout history. We also know that, for some strange reason, a government seems to work better when one part works to keep another part in check. This was what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they constructed this nation, the Constitution, and the design for its governance. During the mid to late 90s, with a Democratic president and a Republican House, some of the better laws were created and passed, such as the Welfare Reform Act. The budget was balanced and a surplus was created. In the 1980s, with a Republican president and a Democratic House, both sides kept each other in check (to a good degree—though more should have been done about the Iran Contra Affair—but that’s for another story). Basically said, having the opposition party in power in one branch keeps the other party in check in the other branch. It keeps them honest (as much as is possible in American politics). Would the horrendous Donald Rumsfeld still be in power with a Democratic House and Senate? Not at all. He would have been gone after Abu Ghraib, as he should have been. Bush wants to keep him until 2008. We all know Iraq is one hell of a mess. Why is the leader who executed the mission not held accountable? Rep. Boehner, the #2 Republican in the House, thinks Rumsfeld is the “best thing to happen to the Pentagon in 25 years.” He’s basically saying that Republican leadership will not do a thing about Rumsfeld, when clearly Rumsfeld should be fired, and held accountable.
