“A panel set up last year to reduce excessive secrecy in government is being labeled toothless after its chairman told lawmakers that he could not act except at the request of the president.” Steven Aftergood of the Federation of American Scientists said interpreting the statute in this way relegates the board to being “a White House puppet.”
Well, it’s only fair — since he’s Cheney’s sock puppet, Georgie deserves a puppet of his own… But what do you call the puppet of a puppet? I mean, it makes the mind reel…
October 30th, 2006 at 12:15 pmDoes this administration do anything that isn’t corrupt, or in the service of corruption? How can this administration’s supporters continue to defend its systemic corruption and lies?
October 30th, 2006 at 12:15 pmPuppetry is the highest art form ( only art form) the Bushco administration has, starting with Bush, the Head PNAC Puppet.
October 30th, 2006 at 12:34 pmThis administration knows (for personal knowledge) that the country will have to be completely bakrupted for us to fall into a fascist state. That was the recipe that Hitler need to gain power. George Bushes grandpa help Hilter and taught his son and grandson well.
October 30th, 2006 at 12:34 pmThat should be “from personal..”
October 30th, 2006 at 12:34 pmYes, this administration has done everything in it’s power to weaken and divide Americans. Keep them sick by keeping health insurance too expensive to buy, Keep libs and cons fighting but stoking the fires constantly – Rove’s job, keep people poor and uninformend due to MSM propaganda, and…… sell the country off to the highest bidder. What do they care, they can live high on the hog after America falls. Bush just bought ( very recently) a 98,000 acre farm in Paraguay. You know, the country where all the ex Nazi’s and other dictators can get immunity and live in safety from prosecution. Paraquay is known for this.
October 30th, 2006 at 12:41 pmI kid you NOT
Frozen Scandal man Roberts will take care of this!
October 30th, 2006 at 12:47 pmSicko-phants
October 30th, 2006 at 12:50 pmHey, its yet another example of Republican follow-through.
Topple Iraq’s government – but don’t even think about planning for what happens next.
Agree to build a fence along America’s southern borders – but disagree to pay for it actually, you know, getting built.
Create a anti-secrecy board to make the Whitehouse more transparent – and don’t give them the power to actually do anything without the president’s say so.
Somehow, I get the feeling the more examples of this sort of crap one can come up with, the more Americans will actually want a government that gets things done.
October 30th, 2006 at 1:03 pmAnyone with any capacity whatsoever for rational thought knows that one of the drawbacks of human nature is that it’s not particularly wise to trust people to police themselves effectively — or rather, it’s a nice idea in theory but not so great in practice. By subjecting this panel of inquiry to rules which stipulate that they cannot do anything without the authorization of the President, the Powers That Be have rendered the panel powerless and essentially are trusting the President to police himself. Does anyone really believe that Dubya — a man who’s demonstrated time and time again that he has little or no tolerance for people who question or criticize him on even the smallest point — is going to give this panel the freedom it needs to adequately investigate whether or not the degree of secrecy utilized by this administration is appropriate? I think not…
I think Juvenal probably said it best more than 2000 years ago: Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? (Who will protect us from our protectors?)
October 30th, 2006 at 1:48 pmWe’re very sorry, but the secrets of how the anti-secrecy board works must be shrouded in secrecy, or the terrerists have already won.
October 30th, 2006 at 2:24 pmThe whole idea was just to pacify any Americans who may have had any misgivings bout how the crime family operates.
October 30th, 2006 at 5:41 pmIt was just a cover, a show, a false front to give the appearance of doing something constructive.
Why am I not surprised?
