By Faiz Shakir on Oct 31st, 2006 at 10:52 pm

Indicted former Rep. Tom DeLay

defiantly proclaimed on Fox News tonight, “I haven’t had no ethical problems.” Here’s 13 specific examples of his ethical improprieties.

Huh? “I haven’t had no ethical problems.”

    Red pen….where’s my red pen…?

  2. RUCerious says:

He may be right if he’s saying he haven’t had no …
    Whaaaa/????

  3. Briseadh na Faire says:

It’s so nice to see an elected politician correctly employing the double negative.

    oh, and Happy Hallowe’en Zooey!

For a scarey movie, see “Iraq for Sale.”

  4. WC says:

    Didn’t he just commit a double-negative?

“I have not had no ethical problems.”

The “not” and “no” cancel each other, giving you…

    “I have had ethical problems.”

  5. Karim says:

I hope that he realized that he contradicted himself with the double negative.

  6. Zooey says:

Happy All Hallows Eve, to you Briseadh na Faire. Have you seen the Great Pumpkin yet? Heh.

I like scary movies, not depressing movies….

  7. kimmy says:

I haven’t had no ethical problems.
    Two negatives.
Is this a double talkback and a Republican double twist turn around with a double talkabout covering a double bush covering his “stay the course” and we are changing every day to twist the Democratic view to keep the Replubicans in power and me out of jail line?

  8. Dog_named_Boo says:

This is like hannibal lecter saying he did nothing wrong

I think hes speaking of himself and his party, perhaps unintentionally seperating them. =)

  10. GSD says:

Tom Delay hasn’t had no education either it seems.

    -GSD

  11. PoliticalTruthWatch says:

Is there Anybody…I mean anybody who is really surprised? I, for one, have moved on past this buffoon. . .When Delay left office, he quoted scripture. . .let me give you all one to read:

Romans 1:22 – “…Seeming to be wise, they were in fact foolish,”

‘Nuff said. . .please go vote. . .and make sure you’re taking somebody with you. . .

  12. RUCerious says:

Yup, he’s jest a gud ole boy from the back country. Oh, maybe the pesticides really did fry him!

  13. Vincennes says:

Later on DeLay said: “I ain’t a no bad grammarist.”

  14. Zooey says:

Later on DeLay said: “I ain’t a no bad grammarist.”
    Comment by Vincennes

    Ow.

  15. Jay Randal says:

Tom Delay is a human cockroach > he became one years ago when he fumigated houses as a pest control operator, and then decided to become a Congressman who loves sleaze > may he rot in Hell!

  16. RUCerious says:

Jay, was he the actual star in Men In Black?

  17. Zooey says:

    RUCerious,

He was wearing his brand-new Edgar suit!

  18. JT says:

Awwww, shucks… he’s just trying to appeal to the base of the party…You know, the common clay, the people of the land… You know…morons!

  19. Jay Randal says:

RUcerious > lol yes DeLay could be an alien cockroach > he probably hangs around trash cans at night to slurp up a meal.

  20. Why+are+there+so+many+pedophile+republicans? says:

“Tom DeLay said he had a new priority in life — outlawing prison rape.” –Jay Leno

“Tom DeLay stepped down from Congress. He said he wants to spend more time in prison. Yesterday he quoted Martin Luther King, ‘free at last, free at last.’ I think it’s great that Tom is so into the black experience, because in prison he’s going to be experiencing a lot of it.” –Bill Maher

“Today a Texas grand jury indicted House Majority Leader Tom DeLay for conspiracy in a campaign finance scheme. This is the most embarrassing thing to happen to the Republicans since yesterday.” –Jay Leno

  21. Pissed+Off says:

Tom DeLay’s comment makes as much sense as keeping him on the ballot even when he cannot run for office.

Or is it that Tom is practicing his new lingo so he can fit in at the slammer.

Too late in the day to poder. I will let the many “philiosophers” in DC figure this one out.

  22. Steve says:

It’s funny what topics are on the site tonight.
Al Gore single handedly kills the Dems hopes and TP can’t even find a good way to spin it.
All the media is afire with this story but it can’t be found here.

  23. It's+Hard+Out+Here+for+a+Chimp says:

“I haven’t had no ethical problems.”

I would have to go with D- for grammar (can’t fault the bug man for talkin’ scraight) and an F for ‘lacking originality’.

  24. HeyNow says:

Check out this funny video of Bob Novak freaking out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyK7e3IrsS8

  25. null says:

Delay truly has no ethical problems, he’s pure evil and likes it that way.

  26. Zeke says:

Double negative aside. Delay was truthful in his statement.

In order for him to have problems with his ethics it would first require that he HAVE ethics.

Having no ethics it would be impossible for him to have problems with them.

  27. Jay Randal says:

Steve > Al Gore has not done a damn thing to hurt Democrats in November election > tell Karl Rove to chill out and go hire Jeff Gannon for sex!

  28. CyraBrown says:

#28- Jay R.- I think he meant John Kerry. But it is funny that in his hurry to bash away, he neglected to make sure he had the name right. Will Steve be correcting his error? We’ll see…

  29. chimpeach says:

“I haven’t had no ethical problems.”

Tell it to the judge, Gomer.

  30. chimpeach says:

    #29

Will Steve be correcting his error? We’ll see…

I hope he does come back and correct it, because I’d love to see the Republicans get stuck talking about Vietnam…er…I mean Iraq for the rest of the campaign. I guarantee you it’s not a topic the GOP wants to be talking about.

  31. John Deek says:

    Dave’s not here

  32. Swordsbane says:

I believe him. How can you have any ethical proplems if you have no ethics. That’s like Cheney saying “My conscience is clear.” Yep.. you gotta have one for it to get troubled.

  33. unitynow says:

DeLay also hasn’t had an education – double negatives anyone? “I hadn’t had NO ethical problems”. He’s not only a liar & a criminal – he’s totally illiterate, too. How did someone as slimey as this man ever get into high political office? Where the people asleep at the ballot box?

  34. Jason+M.+Hendler says:

Once again, you refuse to discuss the hottest issue of the day – John Kerry!

Dems all over the country are cancelling John Kerry’s scheduled appearances, because his true self is exposed. He calls Vietnam vets rapists and murderers, throws his service medals over the white house fence, calls todays service members terrorists and now tries to DENY that he doesn’t think today’s service members are stupid?

May he refuse to apologize thru Nov. 7.

  35. Jason+M.+Hendler says:

    Here’s the upside ….

Now that John Kerry has killed his chances in 2008, Al Gore is the most likely challenger to Hill’reh Clinton – your boy is in!

  36. numfar says:

    Jason, I’ll help you out.

Kerry called it like he saw’em. Bush is a moron and his administration is not only corrupt, but incompetent. BUSH implied Kerry said that about the troops, Kerry was talking about the Shrub in Chief.

Go Kerry Go! Don’t apologize for nothing. Don’t let them twist the words. Tell Bush to take Rush Limpdick, Turdblossom, Man-on-dog Santorum, and Darth Cheney and shove them up his non-serving, cowardly, stupid ass.

  37. ann says:

Hey, Kerry got Iraq back on the front page. Good job. Now we don’t have to listen to Bush rant about the evils of gay marriage.

  38. jurassicpork says:

Typical Republican: Not only is he a liar, he’s stupid, as well.

    Is we learning, yet, Tom?

  39. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

Typical of the Bush Administration and its supporters, those blasting John Kerry for his comments are unable to see themselves as the target of Kerry’s comments. Projecting the blame (”he criticized the troops”) and attacking the messenger (”shameful”) remain the primary “debate” mechanisms of BushCo.

That said, Kerry and other politicians should leave the humor to Leno, Letterman, Stewart, and the other professionals. They don’t need it. They’ve got truth and courage in their arsenal. They are at their best when they “debate straight”.

  40. DRxJ says:

Jason, a 39 year old Virgin blogger: nice distraction, but totally irrelevant to this thread. Hey, I got an idea, get the heck out of your parent’s basement, head to the local coffee shop, and meet some nice ladies!

Back on thread, Delay just shot himself.
“I haven’t had no ethical problems” is not only a double negative, it is absolutely horrible English.
In essence, he has said “I have had ethical problems”
    Really?
    Well DUH

  41. Elliot Moore says:

I haven’t had no ethical problems.

Technically, Delay is telling the truth. You see, the phrase above is a double negative. If you cancel out the negatives you get.

    I have had ethical problems.

    ‘Nuff said.

  42. numfar says:

Jason, did I help you get off?

I know you have some “issues” with that, thus the constant thread-jacking.

  43. Jason+M.+Hendler says:

    People, people ….

I will simply quote Bill Schnieder on CNN:

“Kerry’s statements reinforce the Democratic Party image of being elitist and condescending …”

Interesting how a political party that is supposed to represent union workers, women and minorities is so completely linked to elitist snobbery. Of course it is because Dems keep running trial lawyers, as opposed to visionaries / leaders, so you continue to alienate yourselves from the “common man:.

  44. Phantamage says:

Tom DeLay – “I have learned nothing.”

  45. DRxJ says:

    Jason, Jason
again off topic. Nothing to add to this thread? Typical
Hey, when do you start your innevitable attack on women, and the totally disgusting attack on children with certain diseases?
    Well, we are patiently waiting

  46. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

Prediction: “He Who Must Not Be Named” will not leave any thread he visits today until he has made a comment attacking Kerry, regardless of the theme of the thread.

Back on topic: Tom DeLay is, has been, and always will be an ignorant and greedy thug. I’d just as soon not hear anything about him until the news headline is “Tom DeLay Begins His Jail Term Today”.

  47. Jason+M.+Hendler says:

    #46, DRxJ,

By all means, wheel out another victim, so that you can’t “act sensative”. The American public isn’t buying it anymore, and Reps are calling you on it. Moreover, when you launch a verbal assault, we put you on the carpet – get used to it – we are now in your face.

  48. Jason+M.+Hendler says:

A simple solution is to create a thread on the Kerry comment, so that we can discuss it there. Ignoring the biggest campaign news-story of the day only invites thread-jacking.

  49. DRxJ says:

    Hey, Jason,
    I’m here waiting, Little Man!
You’ve begun the assault, now continue.
If you’ve got the Kohana’s, if you know what I mean.
And attacking/poking fun of someone’s child who suffers from a serious disease, gives you no credentials and thus no substance.
Some will say just ignore “him” and he will go away,
but alas, I am not one, especially when a child is involved.
So, whenever you are here, I will remind posters of how insensitive and illogical you really are
    Prepare, little virgin man, prepare

  50. DRxJ says:

we are now in your face.
    Comment by Jason+M.+Hendler — November 1, 2006 @ 8:26 am

By “we”, do you mean you and your parents?

  51. GSD says:

“In your face” is nothing new with Republicans.

-Sen. George Felix Macaca Allens’ goons beat up a former Marine.

-NY congressman and Republipud John Sweeny “knocked his wife around” according to a police report.

-Nevada Congressman (R) Jim Gibbons is on video tape allegedly assaulting a waitress.

-George W. Bush is accusing 65% of America of supporting terrorists.

    -GSD

  52. Steve says:

    #31
Wow was that a slip or what? Yeah I meant John Kerry :) Though I did see Al got himself a new job. A lobbyist for the British Government.
My point was TP has avoided the Kerry mess altogether most of the other blogs like daily kos tried to deflect the blame, just as john did himself. Coming out and saying he owes no one an apology was the biggest mistake of his political life. He(I’m guessing it was the canidate who canceled him) already has canceled an appearance to stand beside a canidate and help bring in votes. I can’t wait to see what happens next :)

  53. DRxJ says:

Ignoring the biggest campaign news-story of the day only invites thread-jacking.
    Comment by Jason+M.+Hendler — November 1, 2006 @ 8:28 am

Geez, it’s not even 9am on the east coast. A little premarture, aren’t we, little buddy?

  54. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

By “we”, do you mean you and your parents?

    Comment by DRxJ

Option 2: The “royal we” from the royal pain in the a**
Option 3: Me, Myself, and I
Option 4: Me and the Voices
Option 5: Me and my imaginary friend
Option 6: Me and my inflatable girlfriend
Option 7: Me and my pet goat
Option 8: All of the above

  55. Jason+M.+Hendler says:

    DRxJ,

Always bating, but never debating, but back on topic …

At first, Schumer was making himself the most visible face of the Democratic Party, which was having a negative affect, but John Kerry, never to be upstaged, has now turned this race into a repeat of 2004. It just keeps getting worse and worse for you guys …

  56. Steve says:

DRxj, most blogs had the topic yesterday afternoon. Seems curiously absent here.

  57. DRxJ says:

Steve, I’ll hold my judgement when Think Fast AM edition is posted

  58. DRxJ says:

my bad…I’ll hold by judgment UNTIL ThinkFast AM appears

  59. DRxJ says:

By the way, Kerry is worthy of discussion, but not on a DELAY “I don’t have no ethical problems” thread

  60. Harry 3 Lime says:

Nobody expresses Republican virtue better than DeLay. But it’s the kind of thing his wife was paid hundreds of thousands of lobbyist dollars to write, and who can deny that she was worth every crooked cent?

  61. Quadrajet says:

Always bating, but never debating, but back on topic …
    Comment by Jason+M.+Hendler — November 1, 2006 @ 8:43 am

Jason instructs a poster to get back on topic and then…… Any comment on DeLay’s claim that he hasn’t any ethical problems Jason – or is he claiming that he does? His statement is a bit confusing if we’re to assume that he’s trying to speak english.

  62. DRxJ says:

    DRxJ,

    Always bating, but never debating

Well hell, if you can hijack a thread with off topic issues…let’s just say two can play at that.
Hey, how’s your MySpace site doing?

  63. Steve says:

DRxj, there have been at least 5 topics posted here since the Kerry thing broke. What you waiting for again?

  64. Democrat Soldier says:

What I think is hilarious is the hoopla the right-whiners are trying to make out of Sen. Kerry’s remarks.

If, as they claim, he insulted our soldiers, then that also means that Sen. Allen called black people “monkeys”.

Sen. Allen only said “I apologize if what I said was offensive”, but never apologized for calling black people “monkeys”.

So, either the Republicans admit that Sen. Allen called black people “monkeys” or give up on Sen Kerry.

I’m just glad to see Sen. Kerry fight back and not just lay down and take it from the right-whiners yet again. As a veteran, and having spoken to my soldier friends, no offense was taken nor meant. Get over it!

Speaker Pelosi will save us from Republican excesses!

  65. DRxJ says:

Steve, this is a thread regarding Delay, and I HAVE discussed Kerry in previous threads. I just feel it would be more appropriate to discuss that in the mornings Think Fast edition
But really, how do you feel about Delay’s “ain’t got no ethical problems”?

  66. Democrat Soldier says:

#27 – Zeke, I agree with you. In order to have a “problem” with ethics, you have to have some to begin with, and Rep. DeLay has proven time and time again that his “ethics” are non-existent.

  67. And+You+Thought+REAGAN+Was+Stupid says:

Jason Hendler will get spanked next Tuesday. Are you ready for it, little man?

  68. Quadrajet says:

Steve, I know your anxious to talk about something other than the ethical problems of your party or the chaos in Iraq, the rape of taxpayers by Halliburton/KBR, ect., etc. but keep your skirt on. I’m sure TP will post something on this patheticly sad ‘issue’ your side is trying to create.

  69. Sharon Cox says:

Good Morning Progressives, I see from the post’s all the reich wing shit flippers are still posting on word’s spoken by Kerry…Well let’s talk about the 2,800 lost service personell for bull shit bush’s personal power, control of middle east oil, Katrina 4 day’s and waiting while heir dictator diddled and partied eating cake (1,500 died, 300,000 displaced) Let us never forget 3,000 on 9/11 by neglect or design, and then we have 1,000 killed in Lebanon when the decider and his concubine rice waited untill Israel killed all they wanted with our supplied bomb’s…One final tally that is staggering beyond belief is the 660,000 Iraq, men women and children…Oh and don’t forget also in bull shit bush’s mind these are just commas….Damn, you reich winged people are stupid, hartless and blind……Last but not least our troop’s are going hungry in Iraq….That’s bush’s war, remember.? And you on the reich are concerned about a misspoken joke about the murderer in charge…….The reich wingers in our country are for fear, smear, lie and kill……Vote the basterds out and ignore the farro pig’s…

  70. CyraBrown says:

I see ‘Jason the Wonder Blahgger’ is hard at work already this morning. though why he bothers, I don’t know. It’s like he believes that people here actually care about what he says. It wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t so incredibly BORING, not to mention, repetitive as well. Jason’s sense of self-importance is like wet sand in my underwear, very annoying. Reminds me of my 2 younger brothers. Knowing exactly what they were doing, and enjoying it. Maybe Jason will outgrow his need to be a brat, but he is in no hurry to do so. Kids…

  71. DRxJ says:

    woah, Sharon…
Please, let it out, don’t keep all that inside!
    :-)

  72. RantingTommy says:

Jason, just like his terrorist allies in the Republican Party, are pretty stupid. But we know they aren’t stupid enough to think Kerry was actually talking about the troops. They are just being dishonest.

It’s desperation. They are panicking. Kind of like they did on 9/11.

  73. NULL says:

THAT TEXASS DOUBLE NEGATIVE MEANS DELAY IS MAKING A CRUEL JOKE, AND THAT HE IS SAYING TO THOSE WHO ARE NOT STUPID ENOUGH TO WATCH FOX NEWS THAT HE HAS NOTHING BUT ETHICAL PROBLEMS.

  74. MakesYaThink says:

I wonder what it will take for those on the right to realize what’s going on?

How about the govt taking away your constitutional rights to bear arms?

During Katrina OUR military was taking guns away from home owners who were trying to protect their property.

Steve, Rogerx2, Hippie With a Pistol, JMH, when “something happens” in your area, will you give up your guns?

Well you already have thanks for voting for Bush!

When these people needed their guns the most to protect themselves, those rights were stripped!

Wake up idiots on both sides, this isn’t about abortion, gays, this is about our constitution.

  75. Bluestocking says:

I think the fact that he used a double negative is more telling than even he thinks it is. While he was no doubt trying to claim that he’s innocent of any wrongdoing, it can be argued that his own words betrayed him. The proper grammar would, of course, have been “I haven’t had any ethical problems” — but by using the double negative, what he effectively said instead was “I haven’t had an absence of ethical problems”. That’s not a lie!

  76. Sharon Cox says:

Good Morning Cyra and DRxJ,……How ya doing Cyra.? Think of you often. Yep! DRxJ I vent and fight back often…..Sick of the (_?_) that post stupid crap when people are being killed because of this miserable administration. Blessings

  77. Tom DeLay says:

    - I don’t not wear a rug on my head.

    -Tom DeLay

  78. Steve says:

But we know they aren’t stupid enough to think Kerry was actually talking about the troops

    Drink more of that kool-aid.
He was talking to students and said exactly what he meant. That cannont be taken any other way. But like a true liberal who gets caught in something pull out the Clinton playbook and feign outrage and say what you just heard was not what I said. The cat is out of the bag and once again John hands the republicains a victory. How do you kool-aid drinkers put up with this bafoon?

  79. DieNowForPeace says:

Jason, the pathetic political COWARD, when the Dems regain control of Congress, are you going to cry, or just kill yourself?

    Mmmm, delicious.

  80. DRxJ says:

Steve, I now direct you to ThinkFast AM, to discuss your Kerry infatuation, and thank you for confirming that Delay has never had no ethical problems.
Truly, it’s a step in the right (no pun) direction for ya.
Please, come join us over here in the light.

  81. Sharon Cox says:

Good post MakesYaThink, and spot on………Blessings

  82. . says:

    DeLay math : a Double Negative x A Lie = the truth

  83. MakesYaThink says:

    Steve shut up,

    Forget who said what…

When your govt comes for your guns, who’s safe?

    The govt!

    Thanks for supporting Bush!

    Thanks for reversing the constitution.

Thanks for the next step in facsism.

Papers! Can I see your Papers!

    What was that about Koolaid?

  84. Democrat Soldier says:

#80 – “He was talking to students and said exactly what he meant.”

Oh, you mean exactly like Sen. Allen was talking to white people and calling black people “monkeys”??? See how you have some double standards!

“How do you kool-aid drinkers put up with this bafoon?”

The same way your right-whiner Republican kool-aide drinkers put up with pro-big-Government, anti-Constitution, pro-big-debt, anti-troop Pres. Bush.

  85. Casey says:

All of the paid reichwinger trolls think they have a safe place in the new Armerikka locked up, hahahahahahaaa. You will will be thrown away like the garbage you are when your usefulness is done. Suckers.

  86. Quadrajet says:

How do you kool-aid drinkers put up with this bafoon?
    Comment by Steve — November 1, 2006 @ 9:20 am

Now that’s funny Steve! This from a bush supporter, bwahahahahaha

  87. JD says:

    He’s a verbal dumb ass.

Using a double negative, he is actually admitting to ethical problems.

  88. JD says:

    He’s a verbal dumb ass.

He used a double negative, and in doing so, is admitting to ethical problems. Glad you see the light Delay.

  89. numfar says:

Jason, why don’t you go have an “afterglow” ciggie. You got off, what more do you want? Someone to toss your salad?

    Jeez, what a glutton.

  90. kelso says:

Dang ! I ain’t done had no ethical problums neither.

I’m from Texas and that’s how some people talk ya’ll, even polititicians who get caught in the librul conspiracy.

    Git ‘r done!

  91. bk says:

Might be the first time he’s told the truth.

  92. chimpeach says:

    #80 Steve

How do you kool-aid drinkers put up with this bafoon?

This from a guy who idolizes a lying, moronic deserter. The word you’re looking for is “buffoon”, but one of the definitions describes Bush to a tee: “a gross and usually ill-educated or stupid person.”

  93. craigajohnson says:

    Proxymorons: DeLay and Frist

Tom D. representing values’ voter. Proxymoron

Frist diagnosing Terry Schiavo via television.

    Add your nominees.

New Gop slogan – “Cringe Americans, Cringe and Cower” scurry, scurry vote us back into power.

Now there’s a message for the ages.

    Exorcise your right. Vote!!!

  94. doug says:

Why would America be interested in hearing what Delay has to say?

Faux News in losing it completely!

  95. Otherworld » You call that a costume? says:
