On Tuesday, in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, President Bush said the worst thing about being President was the “tone” in Washington, saying that it “has gotten ugly.” Bush said that he had stayed above the fray, noting “I really don’t think it’s fitting for the president to drag the presidency into that kind of a mudslinging.” Watch it:
The day before, President Bush was on the campaign trail in Georgia. His message: his opponents want America to lose and the terrorist to win. Watch it:
This kind of high-minded rhetoric is a staple of President Bush’s election-year stump speech. Expect more of it as the President campaigns in Nevada, Montana and Missouri over the next two days.
Transcript:
Clip 1
BUSH: Let me start with the least. I don’t like the tone in Washington, D.C. I feel like that the politics has gotten ugly, and that tends to discourage people around the country. And that’s just too bad.
I would hope in my last two years I can — and, by the way, I’ve never really resorted to name-calling. And I’m not trying to say, well, you know, I’m innocent and everybody else is guilty. That’s not what I’m trying to say. But I understand that it’s one thing to disagree with a person, but it’s another thing to have to resort to kind of shameless name- calling. And I really don’t think it’s fitting for the president to drag the presidency into that kind of a mudslinging.
On the other hand, it’s important for the president defends what he believes, you know, in a way that brings honor to the office. But Washington’s a lot — it’s just too — it’s too political in many ways.
Clip 2
BUSH: However they put it, the Democrat approach in Iraq comes down to this: The terrorists win and America loses.
[Snip]
BUSH: In all these vital measures for fighting the war on terror, the Democrats in Washington follow a simple philosophy: Just say no. When it comes to listening in on the terrorists, what’s the Democratic answer? Just say no. When it comes to detaining terrorists, what’s the Democrat answer?
AUDIENCE: Just say no!
BUSH: When it comes to questioning terrorists, what’s the Democrat answer?
AUDIENCE: Just say no!
BUSH: When it comes to trying terrorists, what’s the Democrat’s answer?
AUDIENCE: Just say no!
Do as I say, not as I do!
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:20 amWhere are the Democrats when he comes up with this BS?
Use Howard Dean.
Use anybody.
Why do they let this stuff go unanswered?
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:22 amThe Republicans are in their last throes, if you will.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:22 amBush who routinely drops words, makes up new words and generally hates words. Too wordy. Bush, The Googler who sometimes peruses The Internets, seized the opportunity to grandstand in a crowd of friendlies and labeled Senator Kerry’s remarks “insulting” and “shameful.”
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:23 amInsulting and shameful. Sort of like… I don’t know… “Bring ‘em on.”
Where is the voice of the Democrats when these types of things come out?
This jerk is calling 40% of Americans terrorists sympathizers.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:24 amLeni Riefenstahl is applauding in hell.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:25 amBush is an extremely divisive president. He hides information from the public and hires “reporters” to put forth fake news stories. His failed policies are clear evidence of his incompetence. Yet, Bush and his cronies attack Democratic opponents on the floor of the Senate, in the House, and on the campaign trail. What a jackass.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:26 amBush’s failed presidency is the end of his pathetic legacy.
As always, bull shit bush can flip more shit, accuse, deny, lie and in general f***up more than any other drunk druggie on the planet just because the pupett masters stick his sorry ass out there to preach to their choir…..Move you’re elephant ass over lier and thief, sooner or later we will put you in jail..Blessings all
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:27 amWhere is this man’s integrity? Just recently the President said:
“We must put aside our differences and work together to meet the test that history has given us.â€
If he’s going to stick to his guns then fine, show that 24/7 but this flip and flop and Stay the course. we are not stay the course shows how spineless he is.
If he truly believes this “War on Terror” includes all that he is doing behind the scenes then stand up and don’t waver.
How anyone can just cherry pick his words to suit there needs is beyond me.
“I’m a uniter, not a divider” riiiigght.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:27 amI have always said that the office of the President deserves every American’s respect.
But this guy is doing his best to convince me otherwise.
and, by the way, I’ve never really resorted to name-calling
Okay… who wants to start with the examples of Bush doing just that?
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:27 amIsn’t this guy just about the biggest loser ever hatched on American soil?
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:28 amNo one has ever deserved impeachment more.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:28 amits almost funny… but its mostly frightening :o/
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:28 amah, the depths to which we sink in political discourse… does anyone really believe Democrats want terrorists to win? really think about it rationally for a second, then answer it… there’s no merit to this… just political desperation…
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:28 amMe: Mr. Bush, can you prove any of your accusations about Democrats’ position regarding listening to, questioning, or trying terrorists?
Bush: I just say “no”.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:29 ambush,limpdong and o’liely…no difference,all BS.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:30 amWasn’t “Just say no.” a Nancy Regan slogan from the war on drugs. Interesting that they would use that as a cane to beat the Dems with.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:32 amWanting Bush to lose ≠wanting terrorists to win.
Wanting Bush to lose = wanting an end to an insane foreign policy.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:32 amOops! Looks like this Kerry bashing diversion is backfiring. The polls are getting worse for the GOP:
http://realclearpolitics.com/polls/
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:34 amKerry should have said if you don’t study hard an get smart you might wind in the oval office like the present occupant, dumb as all get out.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:34 amgeorge w. bush is a poorly-designed, malfunctioning clone… the original george bush died of a combination overdose of alcohol and drugs about the same time as he pulled his disappearing act from the texas national guard… nonetheless, he is serving his masters well…
And, yes, I DO take it personally
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:35 amPeople who vote for Bush want to destroy the consitution.
Why do 33% of Americans hate the Constitution?
-GSD
P.S. George, tell you wife to increase her Zoloft intake, you are going to be one miserable prick after 11/7.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:35 amBush: I really hate the tone in D.C. that I have set. I mean we should just forget all the name calling I have done and continue to do. When the Dems win these elections I hope they will forget what I have done and work with me to advance my agenda. And if they don’t they are just a bunch of obstructionist, terrorist loving, America hating commies. hehehehe
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:36 amI’d love to see Keith Olbermann interview Bush - that would be quite entertaining! :) However, Hell would have to freeze over before Bush would agree to such an interview.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:36 amBush says his opponents want the terrorists to win… Well, take a look at what his opponents have done over the last 5 years.
1) Accused the presidnet of lying about intel (9/11 commission report concluded nobody lied)
2) Has opposed the patriot act and cheered when they thought they had killed it
3) Opposed the terror spying programs which has helped us prevent attacks on US soil for 5 years
4) Called Iraq a distraction while Bin Laden calls it the central front in his war against the US
5) Opposed the interrogation bill which gives captured terrorists more rights and avenues of appeal than any other captured enemy in the history of US warfare
6) Compared our troops to Nazis, compared Abu Ghraib fraternity-esque torture to Saddam’s rape rooms, beatings, and forced removal of limbs
7) Blame the threat of terrorism on Iraq even though we were hit several times in the 1990’s and on 9/11 well before we invaded.
8) Want to redeploy our forces,(cut & run) & set timetables for withdrawl knowing that Iraq will be overrun by the terrorists if we leave too early.
If the democrats don’t want the terrorists to win, why have they opposed every program this president has implemented to prevent further attacks without offering any alternatives?
If the democrats do not want the terrorists to win, why have they called Iraq a distraction when the most wanted terrorist in the world calls it the central front in his war with the US?
If the democrtas don’t want the terrorists to win, then why do they seem to act as if they aren’t a threat in the first place?
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:39 amI must say, although I believe Bush is an absolute moron, here we are in a relatively liberal room….and we are giving the idiot air time. He makes himself the focus……and we reply as if there is a debate. As if anything the man says has merit. Yesterday, I heard everyone talking that we should not give any credence to the John Kerry hoopla (we should stay on focus…and not drift), Yet, I saw over 400 posts on John Kerry…..It was a non-issue, but by debating it we make it issue and we give it merit. This is how we win….we fall into their ploys. Imagine if Exley, Mighty, Ben, Jason…etc WERE IGNORE ALWAYS, eventually when couldn’t get a rise out of us….THEY WOULD LEAVE AND FIND SOME OTHER PLACE THEY COULD GET A RISE.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:39 amWe shouldn’t play into their ploys….we should be talking about how to advance our on causes and beliefs…..INSTEAD THEY GOT US SPINNING OUR WHEELS….GO NOWHERE….AND THAT’S THE GAME
Does anyone have the “rock the house” phone banks going on…..besides in my state??
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:40 amThe Terror message is wearing thin….Americans realize they’ve been had by this rove/cheney puppet. Here in AZ all John Kyl can talking about is “Terror, terror, terror, terror - re-elect me.” The vast majority of Americans want their country back from the neocon, big business whores. The repubs don’t realize it yet, but they don’t have anything to stand on but fear and the sky will not fall because they say it might.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:40 am21. Is that why they are so against embryonic stem cell research? Maybe they saw how horribly wrong it could go and want to save mankind from this type of thing from ever happening again.
I smell a B movie.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:41 am#26 This is how we win….we fall into their
I meant to say “this is how THEY win…..sorry….I type too fast and sometimes mess up my words
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:43 amSW BOB….I ABHOR JOHN KYL…..HE SO BAD…..SO BAD!! I am voting Pederson all the way
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:44 amSomebody here’s got the neocon/Rush Limpy talking points du jour. What a pile of crap.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:44 amThis is what the GOP, Dubya, Cheney, and Anne Coulter and her FOX friends really think of the troops.
Chickenhawks are sociopaths
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:45 amVirginia sheriff, 12 deputies indicted
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:45 amA Virginia sheriff and a dozen of his deputies engaged in a corrupt scheme to sell the drugs they seized to the public, a federal indictment alleges. The indictment, unsealed today, names Henry County Sheriff Harold Cassell and 17 others. The 34-count indictment also charges a postal worker, a probation officer and five citizens. - - Hey, can we implicate George Allen in this? Huh? HUH?
Okay.. so it’s okay to get into that kind of mudslinging when you’re trying to STAY president, or when you’re trying to BE the president, but when your party’s getting it’s ass whupped, you “stay above the fray” Good one.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:45 amThe terrorists already won on 9/11.
They’re winning in Iraq.
They’re winning in Afghanistan.
And Bush thinks that WE want them to win? Bush is nothing but bin Laden’s bitch. He’s just blaming his mess on other people like he always does. In the process, however, he just helps spread al Qaeda’s propaganda. Be afraid! Be very afraid!
Just like a terrorist. Like I said: bin Laden’s bitch.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:46 am.
I demand an apology! Not only am I a Veteran and a proud citizen of the United States, but a Real goddamn Texan! The president just called me a Fu*&ing terrorist sympathizer and I am really pissed off that this paper tiger, Air National Guard quitter, male cheerleader, Yankee, Texan wannabe feels he can do that and no one will say crap about it. Bastard.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:47 amHey SW Bob….did you see the ad that the republicans are running against Ellen Simon (d) running against Rick A@@hole Renzi????
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:48 am(9/11 commission report concluded nobody lied)
Actually, they haven’t even DONE phase II yet, which will consider that question.
See? The only thing you’re good for is passing on other people’s talking points. Beyond that, you’re human spam.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:48 am.
Badmoodman….if you think Congress is corrupt….well, it took lessons from the criminal justic system.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:49 amYah, it’s your imagination, you never heard George use the word Islamo-fascism, it was all in your head, King George never uses names.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:50 amGeorge Bush is nothing more than a big talking pu**y. The loudmouths always turn out to be this way when push comes to shove.
He should keep his slobbering mouth shut about my party and my beliefs. After all, they are the mainstream today and it is his crooked “values” that our nation is against.
:::
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:50 am# 15, um the democrats opposed the interogation bill, criticized the terror spying program, the terror money spying program. The majority of americans want these programs but the democrats oppose them.
Name calling? please. your side has called this president a liar, murderer, war profiteer, stupid, incompetant, compared him to Hitler, called him a terrorist, a monkey, etc.
Name calling is something the democrats do very well because it’s ALL they have done for 6 years.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:51 amObviously, Dog, you and your wife are not the “right kind” of vets, unless of course, someone on the left says something that might be construed as disparaging about you, in which case Ann and the President want to wrap themselves in your living or dead skins and pretend they’re your only source of respect and support.
Chickenhawks are sociopaths, as are Ann and W and Dick and Donnie, and their cheerleaders are out there creating more sociopaths every day….
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:52 amHe does this because he knows that most people can’t remember from one day to the next.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:52 amTruthdetector: Your whole post is full of lies. AND, #2, #3, and #5 are all unconstitutional laws passed by Bush. You should thank the Democrats who speak out against an attack on the U.S. Constitution.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:54 amAnd, for the record, the gop set the “tone” in Washington back there with Lee Atwater, and they haven’t relented since. I’d like to give that smug little punk W some “tone”.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:54 amMethinks Truthdetector is a troll. If you told him the sky was blue he would vehemently deny it. It’s just a game to him.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:56 amPlease it’s all the Hypocrite GOP racist pundits like Coulter Limbaugh and O’lielly, and Macaca Allen do. I can remember also Cheney and Bush calling people names on open mics.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:57 amPeejay3306, I haven’t seen the ad, I’m down in Tucson and they have been slamming Gabrielle Giffords even though no one is endorsing or supporting the repub opponent Randy Graf. Even the GOP has pulled their national support for him. What is interesting is that the GOP playbook seems to be focused (at least here in SE AZ) on TERROR and building walls, shipping illegals home and “trust us not them” tactics.

Bush says his opponents want the terrorists to win… Well, take a look at what his opponents have done over the last 5 years.
1) Accused the presidnet of lying about intel (9/11 commission report concluded nobody lied)
No, it did not draw that conclusion.
2) Has opposed the patriot act and cheered when they thought they had killed it
Because we don’t hate the Constitution, we don’t hate freedom, and we don’t want to serve an Emperor with unchecked powers.
3) Opposed the terror spying programs which has helped us prevent attacks on US soil for 5 years
We oppose Bush spying on anyone and everyone outside of the purview of the courts. To say this has prevented attacks here is a fabrication for which no evidence exists. In fact, the FBI has complained of being saddled with thousands of leads given to them by NSA, not a single one of which has yielded anything.
4) Called Iraq a distraction while Bin Laden calls it the central front in his war against the US
AFTER BUSH CREATED CHAOS THERE ALLOWING TERRORISTS TO MOVE IN.
5) Opposed the interrogation bill which gives captured terrorists more rights and avenues of appeal than any other captured enemy in the history of US warfare
Wow. Even more distorted than your usual propaganda. The act allows torture. Period. It allows Bush to deny Constitutional rights to U.S. citizens. And tortiure them.
By the way, why do you hate the Constitution so much?
6) Compared our troops to Nazis, compared Abu Ghraib fraternity-esque torture to Saddam’s rape rooms, beatings, and forced removal of limbs
Well, we do have secret prisons now, don’t we? We torture people, don’t we? We illegally invade sovereign countries, don’t we? We have suspended Constitutional rights in an overt act of fascism, haven’t we? As for your characterization of Abu Ghraib as “fraternity pranks”, this indicates that you are a Rushbot with a sick, sadistic mind. Clearly what went on there was torture according to any standard of decent thinking moral human beings.
7) Blame the threat of terrorism on Iraq even though we were hit several times in the 1990’s and on 9/11 well before we invaded.
I think you might have been trying to make the point that Iraq and Al Qaeda were connected, and that Iraq committed acts of terrorism against, which is FALSE.
8) Want to redeploy our forces,(cut & run) & set timetables for withdrawl knowing that Iraq will be overrun by the terrorists if we leave too early.
Ahh, the cut and run canard. Complete intellectual bankruptcy.
If the democrats don’t want the terrorists to win, why have they opposed every program this president has implemented to prevent further attacks without offering any alternatives?
Another lie. You are one of the biggest lying sacks of s**t at this site.

November 2nd, 2006 at 11:58 amSo Bush hands out sticks and privately tells his minions to attack and then pretends that he has nothing to do with it. And he doesn’t lift a finger to stop it. Yep, that’s leadership for you.
November 2nd, 2006 at 11:59 am43:
Read your bill of rights and compare it to the “terror spying” program, as you put it.
My side is not without some recklessness; however, names like “war profiteer,” “incompetent,” and “liar” have proven to be factual classifications of George W. Bush.
What have you specifically done to preserve the dignity of your faultering party over the past six years? Anything that begins with “You Democrats” doesn’t count. Further, were I you, (I am assuming) a Republican constituent, I would be angrier at my party than any Democrat could be.
The whore is in your house, not mine.

November 2nd, 2006 at 11:59 amI turn thirty today and begin another year in Bush America. At least this birthday there is actually some hope that shit will change, not like Nov. 2nd 2004. Worst Birthday Ever. I feel that more and more people on both sides are getting violent. Like the Boo’s editorial about the Rep. wanting to kick a women in the head. Macaca’s political goons. I confess myself, I wouldn’t mind beating the living crap out of some dumb Republican spouting his no substance talking points. Great divisions in this country. Could get worse when all those electronic voting machines f*ck everything up on election day. I totaly advocate the smashing of electronic voting machines. I mean its not like the courts are going to do anything. I rambling, time to hoist a few pints. Cheers!

November 2nd, 2006 at 12:04 pmThe democrats opposed illegal search and seizure. Don’t forget Bush actually ADMITTED to Illegal warrantless taps. The terror spying program.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:04 pmAnd whicjh program is that? Are you even aware of how many sigint programs have been ion place for the lasty forty years? Obviously not.
These programs have NOTHING to do with wether the democrats want them or not..I reminf you the NSA does not exist. YOU have no choice in the matter, capice?

I never called him a monkey.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:06 pmThank you, ‘truthdetector,’ for showing everyone how ignorant you’d have to be to still be a Republican these days.
1) Accused the presidnet of lying about intel (9/11 commission report concluded nobody lied)
This is phase II, which hasn’t happened yet. The Republicans keep putting this part of the investigation off because we already know what we’ll find: they lied us into a war that they had been planning for over a decade. Once there, American, British, and Australian forces TOOK NO PRECAUTIONS against WMD, so we all now know that it was all bullshit.
2) Has opposed the patriot act and cheered when they thought they had killed it
Any patriot will oppose the patriot act. It’s an attack on the things that make us Americans. Since you’re not an American, you don’t care.
3) Opposed the terror spying programs which has helped us prevent attacks on US soil for 5 years
(a) no one opposes the spying programs, they oppose breaking the law by removing legal oversight. We already know that the Bush administration has abused these programs to spy on his political enemies. (b) These programs have not produced a single lead so far.
4) Called Iraq a distraction while Bin Laden calls it the central front in his war against the US
Yes, because al Qaeda wants the war to continue. So does Bush. Peas in a pod.
5) Opposed the interrogation bill which gives captured terrorists more rights and avenues of appeal than any other captured enemy in the history of US warfare
No, it legalizes torture even though the US Senate, when ratifying the UNCAT, recognized that most of its terms were already American principles. The torture bill is an attack on America, merely used so that Bush, who has lost the war on terror, can look tough here at home, albeit to complete idiots like you.
6) Compared our troops to Nazis, compared Abu Ghraib fraternity-esque torture to Saddam’s rape rooms, beatings, and forced removal of limbs
Wrong and wrong. The nazi “comparison” was part of an FBI report. What happened at abu Ghraid was, as our own military has observed, a crime and was committed against what our own officers admitted were people picked up 90% at random.
7) Blame the threat of terrorism on Iraq even though we were hit several times in the 1990’s and on 9/11 well before we invaded.
Actually, it’s the Bush administration that blamed terrorism for their invasion of Iraq, even though Iraq wasn’t on their list of states sponsoring terrorism. Furthermore, the attackers of the 90s and 9/11 weren’t affiliated with Saddam Hussein.
8) Want to redeploy our forces,(cut & run) & set timetables for withdrawl knowing that Iraq will be overrun by the terrorists if we leave too early.
Iraq is already overrun by terrorists. The CIA and Mossad concluded over a year ago that Bush’s occupation of Iraq only helps al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. Bush, and you, merely serve al Qaeda.
If the democrats don’t want the terrorists to win, why have they opposed every program this president has implemented to prevent further attacks without offering any alternatives?
Because, as we saw on 9/11, Bush doesn’t have a clue against terrorism, and he invaded the wrong country. Furthermore, Bush has taken money away from defending blue states and given it to red state sites not known to be terrorist targets. Looks like Bush wants another 9/11, since the last one was the best thing that ever happened to his adminsitration.
If the democrats do not want the terrorists to win, why have they called Iraq a distraction when the most wanted terrorist in the world calls it the central front in his war with the US?
Because, unlike Bush, we don’t take our orders from bin Laden.
If the democrtas don’t want the terrorists to win, then why do they seem to act as if they aren’t a threat in the first place?
It was Bush, not a Democrat, who shut down American counterterrorism for eight months, which is the only reason 9/11 happened. Face it: Republicans are clueless against terrorism, and refuse to impliment the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, something Pelosi will do within the first 100 hours of taking control of the House.
I am an American, not to mention a person who can think for himself. You are neither. You’re nothing but weaponized ignorance being used against your own country.

November 2nd, 2006 at 12:08 pmHello room/forum,
I have becoming here for the last couple of days…..and for the most part I believe that the majority of the people here are along my way of thinking….YOU WANT CHANGE…YOU DISLIKE/HATE THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION. Yet, despite this….I DON’T SEE ACTION…OR PLANNING…..OR IDEAS….what I see is venting, name calling (not that it’s not deserved) ….and general bickering. I put up a post asking “is anyone having a rock the house phone party”….I DIDN’T GET A SINGLE RESPONSE. I was looking for the positive, I was looking for some action….WHAT I GOT WAS MORE RANTING AND COMPARISONS OF GWB TO HITLER..I ALREADY KNOW THIS….WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO IS MORE WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR. I know all will vote on Tues….this is the minimal gesture to do, BUT WHAT ELSE IS THERE THAT CAN BE DONE!!! Everyday, I wear a T-shirt that I designed with what I call the “political message of the day”. I wear it all day and everywhere I go (granted I am self-employed and it allows me this little luxury)….today’s message is “I fear Republicans more than I do terrorists”. Saturday, I will go to a rock the house party with my cell phone and make my calls to voters. Sunday, I will go to downtown and pass out flyers that tell people to vote and tell them what I feel are the reasons they should vote.
Is there anyway we can shift gears….to a more proactive postive moving stance???? I sure would like this!!

Bush says his opponents want the terrorists to win… Well, take a look at what his opponents have done over the last 5 years.
- first, Bush is deluded and a liar, so be careful.
1) Accused the presidnet of lying about intel (9/11 commission report concluded nobody lied)
- the president didn’t lie, it’s just everything they said before the war was wrong, and he just mislead everyone. happy?
2) Has opposed the patriot act and cheered when they thought they had killed it
- it’s not patriotic to undermine the constitution, you know.
3) Opposed the terror spying programs which has helped us prevent attacks on US soil for 5 years
- do you have any evidence that warrantless wiretaps have prevented any attacks? because i have evidence they are illegal.
4) Called Iraq a distraction while Bin Laden calls it the central front in his war against the US
- Iraq is in the “war on terror” now, after you invaded it, numbnuts. before, Al-Qaeda were based in Afghanistan and other places. Saddam did not like them either, remember?
5) Opposed the interrogation bill which gives captured terrorists more rights and avenues of appeal than any other captured enemy in the history of US warfare
- Law and due process are the cornerstone of western civilisation. You are a liar - they are not trying to give terrorists “more rights”, they are trying to give untried suspects the same rights they have had for decades under international law.
6) Compared our troops to Nazis, compared Abu Ghraib fraternity-esque torture to Saddam’s rape rooms, beatings, and forced removal of limbs
- Rape etc. is wrong whoever does it.
7) Blame the threat of terrorism on Iraq even though we were hit several times in the 1990’s and on 9/11 well before we invaded.
- You’re not making any sense here and contradicting yourself. Answer the question: Has invading Iraq made us safer?
8) Want to redeploy our forces,(cut & run) & set timetables for withdrawl knowing that Iraq will be overrun by the terrorists if we leave too early.
- Democats want to find the least bad way out of this for everyone. You have any better ideas?
If the democrats don’t want the terrorists to win, why have they opposed every program this president has implemented to prevent further attacks without offering any alternatives?
- Most of the presidents ideas have made things worse. There have been many better alternatives suggested, no space to get into all here.
If the democrats do not want the terrorists to win, why have they called Iraq a distraction when the most wanted terrorist in the world calls it the central front in his war with the US?
- already explained
If the democrtas don’t want the terrorists to win, then why do they seem to act as if they aren’t a threat in the first place?
If the republicans don’t want the terrorists to win, why do they keep doing exactly what the terrorists need? Inflaming middle east hatred and chaos, stripping rights from Americans at home, failing to protect ports, even admitting he doesn’t care much about Bin Laden. It’s almost like they’re working together, hmm.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:12 pmPeejay -
You ask if any of us are doing anything about it: I’ve been call canvassing in the evenings the past 2 weeks and I’m volunteering my time on Election Day to be a poll watcher for the Ohio Democratic party.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:13 pmThe Republicans wanted terrorists to attack us on 9/11 so that they could use it to win elections. Seeing the World Trade Center come down was one of the happiest days in their lives.
Oh yeah, and by the way, I just think the level of political discourse we’re seeing today is deporable. People accusing others of being traitors and murderers–tsk-tsk.
Gee, it’s fun acting like a hypocritical f*ck. Isn’t it, George.

Just thought I’d let you know in advance: it’s nothing personal, but I’m stealin’ that one.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:18 pmThere were no attacks on America for five years before Dumbya ignored the PDB while clearing brush at crawford pig farm!!
Bwhahahaaa!
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:18 pmkewl Bobcat….this is stuff I want to hear about. How is it going in the state of Ohio. You know Ohio carries a lot of weight in the elections….LOL. In your canvassing, what hearing from the people….what do you thinks will happen there?? I am more interested in this…than mudslinging!! I already know THEY ARE EVIL…. So tell me Bobcat…..what are the thoughts from the people you have spoken to in OHIO…
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:19 pmSigned Interested PJ in AZ
Buzzbomb, Happy Birthday! Hopefully you’ll look back at your 30th year as the year America got back on the right track by impeaching the monsters in this administration. :-D
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:20 pmhe more they wallow in the gutter, the mud gets thicker and they never get out of it , they’ll soon rue the day they drag the country with them .
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:20 pmThank you, ‘truthdetector,’ for showing everyone how ignorant you’d have to be to still be a Republican these days.
It isn’t ignorance. ‘truthdetector’ is a determined liar.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:21 pmHey SW Bob……did you see the report card for our AZ Senators regarding how their votes supported our troups???? Kyl got a D- and Mr. I am a veteran McCain got a D. Does it surprise you at all that McCain is back Kyl???? This is something I will be pointing out on Saturday and Sunday to the people I speak to…..going to give them a web address that they can look it up for themselves. You think it might open a few eyes??? What do you think of Pederson for the Senate??
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:23 pmPJ:
Honestly, most people I talk to have already made their minds up, one way or the other. Most are for the ‘good guys.’ I’ve had a few people specifically mention they are Republicans, but think their party is gone AWOL from traditional conservative ideals.
The thing that struck me the most (and made me sad) was the lack of reasons people had for how they felt. Very few people seemed like they had actually thought through anything…. all knee jerk, gut reactions.
But overall, Ohio is good. It’s going blue this time around. Ted Strickland is up by 20 points over Blackwell, and Sherrod Brown has double digits on DeWine.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:25 pmIt isn’t ignorance. ‘truthdetector’ is a determined liar.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he was at least in earnest.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:26 pm.
In that second video you can almost hear “flip flopper, oh wait I mean Just say no”.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:30 pm‘truthdetector’ is not only a fool, a liar and a troll - he’s also incredibly easy to argue against, as about 3 of us have done in different ways, all without using set “talking points”.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:33 pmunfortunately I haven’t seen any evidence that even one such person has changed their opinion as a result.. but it’s better than letting them run around uncorrected, i guess.
yeah Bush… liberals really want to be ruled by a bunch of religious zealots who are OK with “honor rapes”… that’s why they’re for the terrorists. wait… we are ruled by a born-agaion religious zealot… so to be against what the terrorists stand for, we must also fight bushs’ fundamentalism… let’s shove a massive faith based election loss right up his arse.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:33 pmBush looks like he wants to gobble that ganno urr microphone 8]
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:34 pmthis is the only “card” bush has left. he drums and drones and beats the repubs over the head with this little skit.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:36 pmbush really has to get some new material.
Bush Laments Tone In Washington, Says Opponents Want Terrorists To Win…
Here’s your daily dose of hypocrisy, kids….
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:37 pmWow Bobcat….it’s sounding very good in Ohio….I am optimistic. I wish more knew why they were voting, but as long as they are voting for change….I will settle for that. I wish I had the same optimistic news in AZ (but I am keeping my figures crossed). The population down here is very transient, in that we have the very rich with retirement and 2nd homes….they mostly vote Republican. In addition, there is a very large hispanic population….this is a problem because most have a Catholic viewpoint and many don’t speak English (at all or well enough) to understand the issue (yet they can vote and many times vote the way the churchs tell them to vote). It’s a real hodge podge of people…….but yet I am hopeful and optimistic that we are moving in a better direction. The group I am most looking to for a change is the Seniors that move here 10 or + years ago. These senior, unlike the current investor type retirees we are getting now, moved here when it was still relatively cheap. These seniors where a substantial base for the Republicans…..but as healthcare hits an all time high expense, as they see their pensions covering less and less, as they see that President Bush doesn’t care about them or social security….these middle income seniors are changing the voting positions. Perhaps, AZ will become a blue state soon…..we can only hope
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:37 pmPJ
I am also in Ohio, a county adjacent to bobcat grad, and I agree that Ohio looks more “blue”. Blackwell and DeWine supporters are really going negative in desperation to hold back Strickland and Brown. I’ve been talking up Strickland and have only met one person who was for Blackwell (even though she could not remember his name, only that he was the “black guy against abortion”). My House Representative was the infamous Bob Ney and even in my very Republican area, I see more signs for Zack Space (D) than the Republican to replace him.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:43 pmBobcat…..I can’t tell you how many VIVA BUSH bumperstickers I see here in AZ (from people who can’t even speak or understand English)….It really makes me cringe. Sometimes I really feel like I live in a foreign country down here in AZ. We have several businesses, especially in Mesa, which say “we speak English”….is that not a rip LOL
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:43 pmIt must be hard for him to tell much of anything, since he hid the secret plan and can’t remember where the plan is, let alone the WMDs.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:44 pmBUSH: When it comes to doing anything I say, because I said so and I’m the decider!
AUDIENCE: Heil Bush!
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:45 pmHey Bush… what happens when it is revealed at some point that the SEC is not doing its job and stock brokers have been able to sell billions of dollars in IOU promisory notes for stock certificates that don’t exist? You know how we just broke the DOW record the other day? What percentage of those trades remain unsettled? Your whole economy is a lie, with people borrowing at artificially low interest rates in Asia while trying to beat the stock market… so tons of trades on margin paid for by cheap Asian loans exchanged for stock certificates that don’t exist = the potential for the GREAT DEPRESSION 2.0.
Then when it hits, you and your buddies can buy up the rest of the US at firesale prices with your war profit slushfunds. Will this be before or after you have to flee to your South American Compound? Too bad you set a precedent for rendition of terrorists…
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:46 pmPLC I have heard about Nye is he the one the just decided not to run for re-election or was he tied up in one of those recent WH Scandals. Tell me more
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:47 pmBy being president, Bush has made the presidency a joke.
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:47 pmJust say Bush! WHy? Because of those ‘terrorists’ Bush imprisoned tortured and released, 90% of them had no ties to any terrorist groups! Bush had to release those he wrongly imprisoned and tortured! When it comes to detaining ‘people’ for no reason, Whats the Global Answer? BUSH!!
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:47 pmseig heil Bush…..
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:48 pmWell, I am off to make my daily phone call to Germany…. Did you know that 58% of Germans think that GWB is the same monster as Hitler. Maybe we should listen to the Germans….they know a monster when they see one!!! To bad Angie Baby (Angela Merkel) has her head up GWB butt!!
November 2nd, 2006 at 12:53 pmPJ
Both. Ney campaigned through the summer, vehemently proclaiming his innocence in his dealings with Abramoff. For some odd reason his campaign sent ME some literature - talk about poor organization since I was on the county democrats committee and my wife has now taken my place. Anyway, this fall he came “clean” (sort of, since he admitted to the bribery and corruption charges, but claimed alcoholism) and ended his campaign. In an ironic twist, his little hometown city here recently had a “political ethics” training session.

November 2nd, 2006 at 1:04 pm(PLC) God love ya up there in Ohio. With representatives like NYE…….you need a change. I was raised in Michigan…..at least Michigan is Blue (as compare to Red AZ) and they have a great senator (Carl Levin) there. Carl Levin is a get in your face kind of guy.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:05 pmFrom WND:
JERUSALEM – Everybody has an opinion about next Tuesday’s midterm congressional election in the U.S. – including senior terrorist leaders interviewed by WND who say they hope Americans sweep the Democrats into power because of the party’s position on withdrawing from Iraq, a move, as they see it, that ensures victory for the worldwide Islamic resistance.
The terrorists told WorldNetDaily an electoral win for the Democrats would prove to them Americans are “tired.”
They rejected statements from some prominent Democrats in the U.S. that a withdrawal from Iraq would end the insurgency, explaining an evacuation would prove resistance works and would compel jihadists to continue fighting until America is destroyed.
They said a withdrawal would also embolden their own terror groups to enhance “resistance” against Israel.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:05 pmJust another sick joke from President Bush.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:09 pmIGNORE BEN….HE’S JUST LOOKING FOR A RISE…..DON’T GIVE IT TO HIM
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:09 pmI just looked up Carl Levin on the IAVA list and they gave a B+ in supporting the troops. I am so proud!!!
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:11 pmWorld Nut Daily with Joe Farrah?!! LMAO!!
Your a dope if you believe those freaks of propaganda, ask yourself if they know the terrorist leaders why doesn’t bush capture them? LOL!!
WORLD NUT DAILY!! Bwhahahhaaaa!!
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:13 pmYou do realize Ben that WND is the same as the National Enquirer?

Thanks for subscribing Ben.

November 2nd, 2006 at 1:17 pmHey Ben, what do you suppose WND ‘paid’ for these stories from real live ‘terrorists’?
LMAO!!
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:18 pmPlz….don’t give BEN air play….it’s like giving a plant water….he thrives on it!! He doesn’t want a debate…..he truly doesn’t care……you can not change his mind…..so lets pretend he’s just not there!!!
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:21 pmYup, a good troll is an ignored troll. No trolling for trolls. Not even mooching!
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:27 pmAnybody who uses WorldNetDaily as a source of anything but satire is off their rocker. Pathetic, Ben, absolutely pathetic. You might as well brand the words “I’m Stupid” on your forehead.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:27 pmBush is desperate and full of crap as usual. Delusional blather is all he has left and he is proving he is the biggest jackass this nation has ever had as a President. A uniter not a divider, yeah piss off Duhbya.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:31 pmLordy, Lordy! This man lives in another dimension on another planet. Where’s the “Way Back” machine when you need it? Or, is it a split personality problem? I know when I’m lying for sure, but evidently Bush didn’t get that gene.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:44 pmIt is very interesting how Bush attacks in others exactly what Bush is doing. Bush trashes John Kerry endlessly for a botched one line joke and then attacks those who resort to name calling. Bush poisons debate then attcks those who poison debate. This one, two punch the sucker punch and then the attempt to kick the indvidual while the indvidual is on the ground is the debate style of Bush/Rove.
November 2nd, 2006 at 1:51 pm[…] If a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, then W’s mind is huge indeed. First he stayed the course until he never did. Now this. […]
November 2nd, 2006 at 2:00 pmI like the republican claim democrats have no “Plan.”
As if the republicans have a “Plan.”
Their “Plan” is going so well!!!!?????????!!!!!!
If the current siutation is based on a republican “Plan” we’re screwed.
November 2nd, 2006 at 2:32 pmHe doesn’t like mudslinging but he slings it with the best of them.
November 2nd, 2006 at 2:50 pmHe creates his straw man in order to knock him down.
He can only appear before friendly audiences because of the risk to his personal safety if he were to appear before an open crowd.
He’d better watch out though- the people are gathering their pitchforks and making torches.
There was just something in our local paper about the last of the gallows at an “old west” town in Union, Illinois. I think they are moving it — perhaps to Pennsylvania Avenue.
Haven’t had much chance to scan through all the comments, but I remember Bush campaigning in 2000 and promising to “change the tone in Washington”? How’s that tone change coming along, Mr. President? Have the Republicans changed their tone yet? Or are they still lying? I know that YOU are.
November 2nd, 2006 at 2:57 pm#12; “no one has ever deserved impeachment more”
November 2nd, 2006 at 3:17 pmPeeJay3306~
Yes, I saw the rock the house site. I’m working Saturday so I am trying to find one that I can attend (I don’t drive) at my convenience, on a bus line. There aren’t that many started in my area.
Just curious….how do they get these potential voters’ calling info?
November 2nd, 2006 at 3:22 pmThree more years!
Iaqi President Jalal Talabani said on Thursday U.S. troops should remain in Iraq for up to three more years to give Iraqi authorities more time to build up their own security forces.

November 2nd, 2006 at 5:24 pmSo if like we are the Terrorists? Who do we want to win? And….hmm um what are we winning? Ummm….peace on earth?
November 2nd, 2006 at 6:26 pmMost all of you are full of liberal BS and thats all you know. I USED to be a liberal when it meant “free thinking” or ” open minded” when we had REAL causes to protest and stand up for. What are you standing up for now? Hatred? Thats not liberal thinking. Take a look at some of the policies of JFK. Oh yeah that was then this is now. Things change. Yeah you’re right, and not always for the best. I have a lot I can say about this administration that i disagree with… but where are the positive answers. Liberals have NO ANSWERS. As you can tell i am an independant. I am very disappointed with the direction things are going but we are all Americans and should find some common ground for the betterment of our nation and stop the hate and mud slinging. Negativism only promotes more of the same.
November 2nd, 2006 at 6:29 pmANY thinking American should be shocked and disgusted at shrub making these stupid comments about “The opposition wanting the terrorists to win.” (However, the key here is “thinking” American). If I were a moderate republican, that would put me over the edge. Now is not the time for shrub to be making such aggressive and outrageous statements, as it will hurt the republicans rather than benefit them…
November 2nd, 2006 at 6:35 pmHmmmm, keep up the good work, shrub!
What kind of complete moron believes that Shrub can or could protect us?
Remember 9/11?
Remember Dumbya and his “Pet Goat”?
Who the f8ck, seriously, would put their trust in either party much less the incompetent Republicans in control now to protect us from terrorism. Terrorism is best fought AND defeated by POLICE WORK. Period. Stop-down your war machines, fearful, greedy, Republithugs.
And for Crissakes, whose record over the past 6 years sucks more than George with regard to national safety?
NEVER FORGET WHICH PARTY/ PRESIDENT ALLOWED 9/11 TO OCCUR UNDER THEIR WATCH.
NEVER.
November 2nd, 2006 at 6:37 pm131 reg-common-joe, who’s the basher and the mud slinger? Look what shrub said about the Democrats helping the terrorists! Also, maybe liberals are fed up with being called “wimpy” (again, more bashing from the right) and are learning to fight fire with fire! I’m a registered independant
November 2nd, 2006 at 6:44 pmas well, joe, but the independents aren’t doing too much lately in case you haven’t noticed. One more thing, I used to vote for who I thought would be the best man for the job, but since republicans vote straight ticket only, that’s what I do now for the Democrats. Again, fighting fire with fire. Liberals WERE calm, focused, open-mined, etc, but now we’re PISSED, and remember, we have the intellectuals on our side, so watch out repubs!
Campaign poster idea…

November 2nd, 2006 at 7:00 pmGeorge W. Bush, The 9/11 President
He Claims His Opponents Want the Terrorists to Win
But He Is Still Friends With the 9/11 Mastermind’s Family
Bush is TOO close to the Terrorist’s Friends and Family to be Trusted
Let’s try this very simply - just based on these two video clips alone, Bush is being two-faced. Right?
Putting all else aside, is this a characteristic of a trustworthy person? Now take a look at your paycheck. In that column with the IRS deductions, take a look at the amount and ask yourself “Do I trust a person like George W. Bush with this money?”
How can anyone get behind this guy? What the hell are 37% (or whatever the number is) of the people in this country smoking?
November 2nd, 2006 at 7:09 pmI find it hard to understand how many Republicans can mount a campaign because so many of them are under indictment.

No, no you weren’t.
November 2nd, 2006 at 8:30 pmPresident Bush is losing the War on Terror
President Bush wants to make the election about the War or Terror. But what is the President’s record in fighting against real card carrying terrorists? The Bush administration has had three major opportunities to demonstrate their competence against dangerous terrorists and has failed each time.
The first failure happened at Tora Bora. The battle of Tora Bora may well prove to be one of the most costly “victories†in US military history.
Despite having thousands of US Marines relatively close at hand, the Bush administration chose to use a handful of special forces and Afghan militias to attack the terrorist stronghold. Incredibly, the leadership in the Pentagon failed to realize that the Afghan militias would conduct their part of the battle in their traditional manner which is based on the ancient teachings of the Chinese military strategist, Sun Tsu. One of Sun Tsu’s most basic principles is to “win the battle without fighting,†that is, to maneuver the enemy out of your territory with few if any losses. This was important because in ancient China, just as in present day Afghanistan, every tribe and province is surrounded by deadly enemies. Winning a costly victory over your enemy today means defeat at the hands of another enemy tomorrow.
In each stage of the war, our Afghan militia allies were content to merely maneuver the Taliban and foreign fighters out of their respective tribal territories. The same scenario played out at the battle of Tora Bora. Osama and the majority of his fighters were not confronted but allowed to slip into Pakistan. Al Qaida was inconvenienced and disrupted but was not destroyed. The enemy merely traded one rocky mountainside in Afghanistan for another rocky mountainside in Pakistan less than one hundred miles away.
The civilian leadership in the Pentagon violated one of the most basic principles of war in Afghanistan. The politicians in the Pentagon were obsessed with capturing territory, i.e., the capital of Kabul, the fortress of Tora Bora, rather than the critically important goal of concentrating our forces to kill or capture the enemy.
The United States had a golden opportunity to destroy al Qaida in one stroke, but failed due to ignorance, incompetence, and neglect.
According to Bob Woodward’s book, Point of Attack, after 9/11 Donald Rumsfeld was “driven to the brink†by the delay in getting boots on the ground in Afghanistan. But by insisting on a rapid response, President Bush and Rumsfeld sowed the seeds for eventual failure. Then, while the officers at General Tommy Franks Central Command were still busy directing the Afghan war, Donald Rumsfeld ordered them to begin planning for the invasion of Iraq. Both President Bush and Rumsfeld were obsessed with Iraq, and this obsession diverted resources and attention away from the battle in Afghanistan before the war was won. Consequently, the war in Afghanistan is still not won, and may well never be won.
While the war in Iraq is now the main front in the War on Terror according to President Bush, before the war, Iraq was not a safe haven for terrorists with one exception, Sargat.
President Bush’s second major failure in the War on Terror was at the Iraqi village of Sargat which is located close to the Iranian border. Sargat was occupied by Ansar al-Islam, a mostly Kurdish terrorist group led by a Jordanian with ties to al-Qaida. The Bush administration rarely mentioned Sargat when discussing the War on Terror because Ansar al-Islam existed for all practical purposes under U.S. protection. Sargat was located north of the northern Green Line, which Saddam was prohibited to cross, and thus Ansar al-Islam was safe from attack by Saddam’s army. But while the U.S. had plenty of bombs to drop on Saddam in the years between Gulf War 1 and the Iraq War, seemingly there were no bombs available to drop on the base of a known terror group who had killed Kurdish secularists and which was allegedly running poison laboratories.
The Bush administration finally did decide to deal with Sargat as part of the invasion of Iraq. But, while there were plenty of U.S. troops available to protect the Iraqi Oil Ministry, no regular US troops were available to attack Sargat. According to Point of Attack, a handful of Special Forces in the Kurdish region who had been running the “Rockstars†spy network were assigned the job. Tragically, the mistakes made at Tora Bora were repeated at Sargat. The boots on the ground were provided by the local Kurdish militias, and as could have been predicted, they repeated the performance of their cousins in Afghanistan. The Kurds were content to maneuver the terrorists out of their territory and across the border into Iran. As the last of the terrorists were loading their SUVs to leave, the American Special Forces called for an airstrike, but sadly, no planes were available to attack these deadly terrorists. The vast majority of the terrorists lived to fight another day.
The commander of Ansar al-Islam was named Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and he would soon return to Iraq and kill hundreds of Americans and thousands of Iraqis.
The third major failure of the Bush administration in the War on Terror is on-going and unfolding before our eyes. While President Bush claims to be the tough guy against the terrorists, according to CNN correspondent Michael Ware, “al-Qaida at its very heart has been found, identified, yet is not being struck…â€
According to a report released by Ware on September 12, 2006, Al-Qaida uses the town of Ramadi in Al Anbar province as its headquarters. “This is were the leaders hide, move plan.†Also, “Al Qaida (in Iraq) is almost untouched in its area of operations, and in the city of Ramadi itself, al Qaida fighters are constantly attacking U.S. troops.â€
Ware also says, “So, here’s the heart of al-Qaida in Iraq, and there’s simply not enough troops and no strategy to combat it.â€
Also, according to Ware, “there’s an area north of the Euphrates River that is used by al Qaida’s top leadership that Osama bin Laden himself points to. It’s the size of New Hampshire. You have only a few hundred troops there. They can do nothing to hamper al Qaida’s leadership in that area.â€
Ware also says, “…Ramadi, it’s actually the al Qaida front line,†and “this is where American Marines and soldiers go face to face
