In an interview yesterday with a CBS affiliate in San Francisco, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) said, “I think that we should get out of [Iraq] as quickly as we can.” The governor also called for “a deadline of when we pull the troops out.”
When asked what he thought of Bush’s opposition to a deadline, Schwarzenegger said, “I think that eventually he will have to put a deadline on there. I think the American people will demand it.” Watch it:
Transcript:
REPORTER: I want to ask you about the Iraq war. There is a new poll out today from CBS News and the New York Times that says Iraq is on everybody’s mind as they go to the polls. Even local races, state races. What’s your position on the Iraq war?
SCHWARZENEGGER: I think that we should get out of there as quickly as we can because, you know, we should have a deadline of when we pull the troops out and figure that out and work together with the government in Iraq. I think they are doing that now.
REPORTER: The President said he doesn’t want a deadline.
SCHWARZENEGGER: Well, I think that eventually he will have to put a deadline on there. I think the American people will demand it.
Why do the Republicans have to look to Democrats for ideas about Iraq policy? I guess they’re plans have failed too many times.

Comment by And You Thought REAGAN Was Stupid — November 3, 2006 @ 9:45 am
But wait, the Democrats never ever ever had a plan. Remember?
SCHWARZENEGGER: Well, I think that eventually he will have to put a deadline on there. I think the American people will demand it.
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:54 amYeah right, like Dubya would ever listen to the 69%
why, oh why does AHNALD hate America?
#1 – You’re right. The only way voters can continue to “fall” for Republican candidates is if the candidates start to distance themselves from the Republican failures.
Of course, this is a major no-no to the party that requires you drink their special brand of kool-aide to be considered a Republican.
November 3rd, 2006 at 9:56 amYah, Awnold dats whut vee need!
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:00 amIf only more politicians, Republican or Democrat, would finally realize that calling for immediate withdrawal is the only way to save more troops from being returned to this country in body bags and more troops returning to this country with severe brain trauma from IEDs and returning to this country with less limbs than when they entered Iraq. To paraphrase Pete Seeger, Bring them home- NOW!
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:00 amLet’s hear the trolls take on Arnold: is he a cut and run coward? That’s one mighty large rat that just jumped ship, if you guys hadn’t noticed
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:01 amGosh I guess the “GIRLIE MEN” were right about something ha Ahh-nold
There goes his Rethug Street Cred…say goodbye to any hope for a Pres Run in 2008
another SAY ANYTHING DO NOTHING RETHUG
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:01 amMan, even ahnold gets it. And he’s not much brighter than Jason!
Maybe Jason will actually get it before he’s old enough to vote!
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:04 amActually, this is the only politically brave thing Arnold has ever done, and he should be commended, not ridiculed, for it.
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:05 amNaw, they will simply claim that because he married a Kennedy he is/was nothing but a RINO anyway..=8]
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:06 amSCHWARZENEGGER: Well, I think that eventually he will have to put a deadline on there. I think the American people will demand it.
I smell election day.
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:06 amWho’d ever have thought that Ah-nold — Mr. “I’ll Be Back” himself, former Hollywood Action Hero — would talk about leaving a conflict before victory was achieved, hmmmm? Hope he’s prepared for the backlash from the Rabid Right…
At least Ah-nold appears to understand that there’s a difference between Hollywood and real life — it’s a shame that Dubya doesn’t…
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:11 amJuan, I don’t know. Angelides ain’t running a very effective campaign, and his ads seem rather bland. At this point, I don’t know which way I’ll jump, but if history is guide, he’ll be backing away from his statement soon with a weasel-worded “clarification.”
Ahh, baloney — I’d never vote for the gropinator!
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:12 amArnold had to suggest we need to leave Iraq.
Maria has been withholding sex from him ever since GDumbya declared “MIssion Accomplished” . . . and Arnold’s getting awfully horny.
He knows that Maria won’t let him stick it in until he says we should pull out.
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:19 amI would not vote for Schwarzenegger but I welcome his stance on a deadline for Iraq. One step closer to the restoration of our country.
Any comments about Schwarzenegger, neocons?
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:21 amArnold is a republican shill. He’s trying to get crossover votes for him and his party by pretending to disagree with his president.
This is what Arnold said at the 2004 republican convention: “Our President, George W. Bush, has worked hard to protect and preserve the American dream for all of us. And that’s why I say, send him back to Washington for four more years!”
Does anyone remember it? Why would he want to send George Bush back to Washington for four more years if he disagrees with his policies?
Don’t trust Arnold or any other self-serving republican shill!
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:35 amDid you see this guys? More people fear Bush than Kim.

Ahhh-nuld is for da pullink out of da troops, and of da guns, and da turnink over of da country to da Irakis, and all of dese sorta tinks… He was against the pulling out until he was in favor of it…sort of like McCain (which side is he on these days — the flip or the flop?).
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:38 amSo, it’s ok to make fun of a man’s accent as log as he is a republican? He agrees with your position on the battle in Iraq, but you still hate him? g as he is a republican?
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:39 amKevin: So, it’s ok to make fun of a man’s accent as log as he is a republican? – - How Freudian of you.
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:46 amAt least Arnold can comprehend polls which show the majority of Americans want out of Iraq. However, is he only saying what he needs to say to get elected? Could it be that he still hopes the Constitution will be amended to allow him to run for President?
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:47 amOpp. no coffee yet.
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:48 amIf he would just become the Terminator, he can go to Iraq and terminate the insurgency.
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:49 am#1 -
Nice login name. lol
I still think Reagan was stupid as hell.
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:26 amSure arnie….and next week it will be ‘STAY THE COURSE’……once you lied we can never believe anything you say. Go home and practice saying the word…cal ‘I’ fornia. It really not to hard, children can do it and so can you.
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:31 amDid he say “deadline”? I think he meant to say “benchmark”.
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:36 amDEADLINE?
hurry up arnie, take it back, before the lashings come cuz i’m sure he meant to say benchmark
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:46 amJeeze, these poly-ticks would be much more believable if they admitted where they went wrong. I really don’t mind a politician doing a complete 180. Anyone can be a bone-head, even when they’re in office. What I can’t deal with is the attitude that “Well this was really my opinion all along. I’m just ‘clarifying’ it.”
A lot has happened since 2000. Heck a lot has happened since 2005. It’s perfectly all right to have voted for Bush or supported him in the past. It makes you look like an idiot, but not as much of an idiot as continuing to support him or trying to weasle out of ever supporting him in the first place.
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:48 amAlso.. he sounds to me more like he’s saying “Well the public isn’t going to let us stay so we should get out to make them happy” rather than “Bush is wrong, we should leave Iraq.” He’s still a Rep.
November 3rd, 2006 at 11:50 amCut and run is for girlie man !!
November 3rd, 2006 at 12:00 pmHahhaah Let’s follow you Republican’s logic.
1. If Bush is wrong, but you say “we should get out to make them happy” rather than “Bush is wrong”. Then you are wise and f*king liar.
2. If Bush isn’t wrong, but you say “we should get out to make them happy”. Then you are stupid and again f*king liar.
So you Rep are all f*king liar. It is only math.
November 3rd, 2006 at 12:08 pmThis is the sound of one idiot talking about another. An actor playing the role of a poltician playing politics. When a very bad actor plays the role of a politician and the voters believe him, well, they get what they deserve.
November 3rd, 2006 at 12:13 pmGo to hell Arnold…You SUCK
November 3rd, 2006 at 12:13 pmWow, I’m impressed that Arnold might actually be listening to the people. I almost feel bad for voting against him. Not.
November 3rd, 2006 at 12:35 pmI got like 3 or 4 messages with on my answering machine while I was at work leading up to the 2004 election where a recording of Arnold was telling me we needed to “terminate” terrorism and “get down” to the polls and support George W. Bush.
Now he’s flip flopping because he realizes that radical conservatism isn’t going to fly for long in a state like California! He only won because Enron scammed everybody’s power and the thought of The Terminator as a governor seemed pretty cool.
I hope Californians don’t re-elect him. His stardom is only cute for so long. He’s a flip flopper, but when push comes to shove, his true conservative colors show.
I wish he would have ended his political career at being the health and fitness advisor to Bush Sr. or whatever the hell he was.
November 3rd, 2006 at 12:57 pmUnfortunately it looks like cut-and-run girlie man will win re-election. All of a sudden he has been passing progressive legislation to drum up votes for himself. Now he’s talking out of both sides of him mouth to drum up votes for himself. He’s a whore. Any state that would vote for an idiot like Ronald Reagan twice would vote for an idiot like Arnold twice.
November 3rd, 2006 at 1:59 pmWhy does Arnold love terrorists?
November 3rd, 2006 at 2:31 pm21. Comment by Kevin — November 3, 2006 @ 10:39 am
What crap. Everyone did “Ahnauld” impressions log before he ever went into politics. But like always, let’s snipe abotu 100% irrelvant crap. Let’s not talk about the fact that Arnaold gets it that satying in Iraq is not just stupid from a foreign policy and national security perspective, but also polticla suicide. Nope. Let’s get into a meanigless stupid kerfuffle about Arnold imitations which we have all done since Conan the Barbarian and paying billions to see Arnold on the big screen. Get real.
November 3rd, 2006 at 2:39 pm“Actually, this is the only politically brave thing Arnold has ever done, and he should be commended, not ridiculed, for it.” –barfly
Then get on your knees, he’ll be right over for your ‘adulation.’
The bastard is polishing turds for the election, and right after his crook SecState steals it, it’s back to Schwarzenegger’s Police State, with his long row of official black Hummers and the helicopter escort.
How much money has Schwarzenegger made on HIS PREVIOUS stolen election?
$111,517,466 in special interest money, money he said he would not need, since he’s ‘rich.’
Compare this to legally-elected (not legally-removed) Gov. Davis, and how he was attacked for taking $2 M from the prison-guard unions, and you will see how ABSURD it is to fellate the Prince of Austria for his latter day election month concern.
Hey Arnold! Screw your lies about caring.
November 3rd, 2006 at 2:41 pm“Any state that would vote for an idiot like Ronald Reagan twice would vote for an idiot like Arnold twice.”
Since we DIDN’T VOTE FOR HIM the first time, and won’t be this time, you are just California bashing.
• In 2003, NO voting computer in the state had legal software in it.
• In 2006, 17 California counties have the Sequoia machines with the Yellow Button on the back. Push the button, enter ‘Manual Mode,’ and enter as many votes as you like. Why does Arnold SecState MacPherson certify such absurdities? Because in the faith-based Rapepublican world, there are no more criminals who would like to steal elections. That’s why registrars throughout the state (and the country) are giving these hackable machines to pollworkers weeks in advance, for ’storage’ in their garages and cars — IN TOTAL VIOLATION OF THE CA CONSTITUTION, and federal law.
17 counties with the Yellow Button? That’s an ILLEGAL election, by definition.
November 3rd, 2006 at 3:38 pmSomeone’s running for re-election. Talk is cheap, as they say.

November 3rd, 2006 at 6:40 pmYeah yeah yeah, who’s his campaign manager?
November 3rd, 2006 at 8:46 pmWhat a liberal he is!!!! Do his constituents actually believe anything that comes out of his mouth? Polls say Californians are idiots.
