Leader of Michigan Initiative To End Affirmative Action Welcomes Ku Klux Klan Support»

The man leading the effort to ban affirmative action in Michigan, Ward Connerly, welcomes the support of the Ku Klux Klan. Connerly said, “If the Ku Klux Klan thinks that equality is right, God bless them. Thank them for finally reaching the point where logic and reason are being applied, instead of hate.” Watch it:

Connerly, “defended his remark in a statement, saying he accepts support for banning affirmative action wherever he finds it.” According to Mark Bernstein of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, the Ku Klux Klan is the “only large organization” to endorse Connerly’s ballot measure.

Last month, Connerly was photographed shaking hands with John Raterink, chairman of the Michagan chapter of the Council of Conservative Citizens, a white separatist organization. The CCC “opposes most immigration and ‘all efforts to mix the races of mankind.’”

Digg It!

There is no issue in the world that will get me to shake hands with the CCC, KKK or whatever alphabet they are using this year.

  5. Roafer Says:

Connerly had to go to Michigan from California to spread his so-called equality drivel because he was laughed out of his home state. What a fool to say the Klan has logic and reason, this guy is and always will be a pathetic fool.

As a former resident of the state of Michigan, goons like this are not uncommon in my experience….
This Con-nerly is another stooge riding on the wealthy Republican manure wagon. He is also playing to the militia types in the northeast corner of the state, you know, terry nickles, timmy mcveigh and friends…….
Michigan has begun to emerge from the waste laid to the state by the departed from office John Engler, governer who stated he would accept a term limit of 2 terms and then ran for and won a third term. Which was the time he needed to rack up a huge deficit, left to the incoming Governor Jennifer Granholm, Democrat.
The only place in the state which benefited from “Big Boy” Engler’s profiteering was the Grand Rapids area, once referred to (by Pete Townsend of the Who) as “the belt buckle of the bible belt.”
Also home to the Amway Corporation, and the DeVos dynasty… one of whom is now running for governer against Granholm.
Thru her herculean (or rather Dianaesque) efforts, much of the damage done has been at least mitigated.
Michigan is still a quite segregated state, in terms of economic opportunity at the very least.
The hordes of retired management level auto industry execs who left the southeastern part of the state and moved to the northwest side; have completely bought up and locked up most of that areas former farms and blocked access to Lake Michigan.
A direct result of their being able to pay $1,000 to $2,000 a foot for enough lakefront to build 7,000 to 10,000 square foot retirement palaces for themselves and their wives, and the grandkids for two weeks in the summer.
I guess I’ll shut up now.

If black people were truly equal, we would not need affirmative action. But, they aren’t. They’re dumb. Whether rich or poor, black kids tend to score lower on the math test, and nobody has ever figured what to do about it. That’s why they need the extra boost. Africa will be a “beacon of progress” before black people in the U.S. stop needing affirmative action to get into good schools. Pathetic.

  14. aguafiero Says:

CCC is also the acronym for the Civilian Conservation Corps, a (Democratic Administration idea) organization which gave work to thousands of men and women in the 1930’s, and is responsible for a tremendous amount of reforestation, conservation and rehabilitation and public works projects all across our nation, and especialy in Northern Michigan.
For this hateful seperatist group to adopt the same acronym is playing to the same younger generation of dumbed down, racist, beer swilling deer hunters who complained so loudly about not being able to make huge piles of bait out in the woods. They said “How will we ever be able to hunt deer if we can’t bait them?”

  15. Oliver Willis Says:

    Black Conservatives Embrace The Klan…

This, friends, is why black conservatives do not have any support within the black community. Ward Connerly, black conservative and founder of the American Civil Rights Institute, is backing an initiative in Michigan to end affirmative action. Also sup…

  16. Republicans Are The Fear And Smear Party Says:

#13 You are obviously nothing but a big racist. Black kids are not dumb, they’re just in the worst schools and don’t have the same opportunities as white kids which is why Affirmative Action is still needed. The fact that the KKK is a hate group, whose specialty is hating Blacks, just shows how pathetic you and Ward Connerly and his crusade is.

“CCC is also the acronym for the Civilian Conservation Corps”
    You make a good observation.
Before I was born, my father worked for the CCC when he could and he worked for the WPA when he could. He also never talked too much about the free groceries he had to pick up for his family - I think he was ashamed that he was forced to need it, but he did it for the family.
When I take my own kids to the state park, I remind them of the men who built it up for us. I remind them of how in bad times, it is even more important for people AND THEIR GOVERNMENT to help each other.
When I see the decay of our infrastructure today and read of the billions being spent in Iraq, where we destroyed so much, I see that the world is upside down.

#13 is qrong, so is #16. Even when growing up, bussing and all, same teachers, same classes, there was a disparagy amongst people. Had nothing to do with poor schools, had everything to do with wether or not the student wanted to learn, and did the family support the student. THAT was the only difference, Other than that, we were ALL in the same schools, with the same teachers, and in the same classes.

In some areas, that MAY be true, in others, not really.

  26. Jay Randal Says:

Before I moved to Georgia, about 2 years ago, I lived in and owned a business in St. Augustine, Florida, which is just below Jacksonville. Some Gay citizens of the city wanted to display rainbow flags for an event, but the mayor received a death threat from the KKK, so the city outlawed the display of rainbow flags. The mayor himself told me about the phone call, and I was shocked, but if I had been the mayor I would have told the clan to go screw themselves. Gov. Jeb Bush visits St. Augustine a lot, because there is still throwback “Deliverance” Republicans in the city, who support the KKK. I miss my progressive Democrat friends, but not the KKK GOPers!

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rev. Ted Haggard agreed to resign Saturday from his New Life Church after its independent investigative board recommended removal, saying he was guilty “of sexually immoral conduct.”

“We, the Overseer Board of New Life Church, have concluded our deliberations concerning the moral failings of Pastor Ted Haggard,” a statement from the church said. “Our investigation and Pastor Haggard’s public statements have proven without a doubt that he has committed sexually immoral conduct.”

********Dear BP - Thank you for providing more evidence of the racism alive and well in the Progressive movement. You sound a tad like the racists who throw Oreo cookies at Michael Steele and hate people like Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Clarence Thomas, et al. I guess to be a REAL black person, blacks have to think alike. Is this because you don’t think they are smart enough to form their own opinions?? (Conservatives will give progs a break in the racism department when you contritely apologize for the race-based fear mongering of the Dems.)

As a teacher, I couldn’t agree more. This statement is very true.

In one of my classes the students who hold the second and third highest grades in the class are the only two black students I have. They are both loved, even though one is poor. I never have any problems or attitude from either of them. I thank their loving and supportive families for that.

  51. Terrin Says:

Adolph Hitler liked dogs. If I like dogs too, it hardly means that I hate Jews. By the same logic, it is quite possible for Connerly and the evil KKK to agree on one issue that is not inherently bad, while disagreeing on the issue that the white race is superior.

I can understand people defending affirmative action, but it is discriminatory. Whether it is justified or not is another issue. I for one say it is not.

  52. JPark Says:

Terrin, are you kidding? You DO hate Jews.

  53. JPark Says:

I don’t know if I would vote for or against affirmative action. On the pro side it evens out the playing field. On the con side it is nothing but a lollipop for minorities. Instead of actually improving public education we have a givaway to minorities. Of course if the Thugs had their way we wouldn’t educate them or hire them.

  54. Republicans Are The Fear And Smear Party Says:

#53 perhaps you don’t live in America or don’t know our history. White America has a history of discriminating against Black people. White America built up the economy by using Black people as slaves while keeping them down by making it illegal to educate them. I worked with a Black woman who was in her 40s who said that when she was growing up in the South, the “new” books that the Black schools got were the old books that the White schools were throwing out. The books were cruddy and the information was outdated. How does this help Black people get a good education? How does this help level the playing field? We still have a long way to go before we can say things are equal and until then we can’t just stop in the middle and say we’re done. I seriously doubt that either Ward Connerly or the KKK wants the best for Black people.

  55. Big Mitch Says:

I ain’t never been to rural Virginia. I reckon they got plenty technology in Virginia cause they got U.Va. down there, and that there was founded by none other than Thomas Jefferson.

I’d bet they got the very latest in voting machinery. Stuff that don’t need no paper cause it’s all done with ‘lectricity, like that what Democrats brought to the Tennessee Valley.

It would take some one a whole lot smarter’n me to figure out how to hack into those machines.

Hell, when they had an election up here to move the Capital, all the ballots were on good old fashioned paper. Now, them folks down in Juneau sure didn’t want the Capital of Alaska up in Wasilla, ’cause that would be like taking horses out of Virginny. No way were they going to let yahoos in Wasilla take the Capital away from them. Trouble is, they hadn’t invented them computified counting machines.

See, if you wanted to steal an election in them days, you had to do real work. You had to do stuff like open up a fire hydrant with a twenty-pound wrench. When I think of all them Wasilla voters slipping and sliding and blocking intersections, well, it’s a lead-pipe cinch they ain’t about to be voting to move no damn Capital to where they coulda kept an eye on them politicos. I guess them fancy pants politico scientists would call that “voter surpressin’.”

I don’t know if an open fire hydrant would make a whole lot of mud in the Old Dominion, and I guess that could kinda get the votin’ bogged down, if you know what I mean. Especially in precincts where that George Allen feller is running so strong.

That weren’t all they done in Alaska to keep the Capital from being moved. They had to take a big old chain, and drop it on a ‘lectric transmission line. ‘How did they do that?’ you might be asking, and hell, back them a lot of people asked the same question.

Turns out they used a whirly-bird heliocopter, which might could sound like going to a parcel of trouble just to drop a chain on a ‘lectric line. But somebody must have known something, because just about all of Anchorage went dark, and people started thinkin’ a lot less about where the Capital was gonna be, and a whole lot more about how they could keep their pipes from freezin’ up. I shutter to think what woulda happened if we had them modern ’lectric voting machines back then.

Now in these modern times, Republicans steal elections just like falling off a log. And there ain’t hardly an old-timer around, who remembers what real work was. Or where to get a twenty-pound wrench. Or a damn whirlybird heliocopter. If you know what I mean.

If’n you do know what I mean, do me one favor. Don’t …

“… tell ’em Big Mitch sent ya!”

  64. Rachel U Says:

I am working on my doctoral degree in quantitative psychology at UNC-Chapel Hill. I saw Ward Connerly for the first time in October of 2006 when he spoke in Raleigh at the Pope Center for Higher Education, a committee of illusioned, white conservative elitists who disapprove of any form of affirmative action research, factualized data, and/or free thinking.

The one thing which stood out for me was how Connerly continually emphasized the fact that he is only a “fourth white.” I don’t know- -I’m African-American and my mother is half white, yet Connerly has more “black features” than both myself and my mother. Yep, even in a previous radio broadcast, he adamantly defended his anti-affirmative action goals by professing his mixed heritage and boasting once again about being only a fourth black.

I could be way off the mark here, but it seems to me that the man hates who and what God intended him to be. Connerly vehemently wants to be accepted by whites (he somehow managed to marry a white woman back in the early 1950s), he would rather aid whites than promote any true measure of equality, and most of all, he is after money.

KKK, CCC, or any other three-lettered acronym used to label an evil and disgustingly racist regime is of no consequence to Ward Connerly. Denying his African-American heritage and making money by putting his own people through the ropes is the name of the game.
