YES the closeted hypocrite Ted Haggard resigned because otherwise his church membership told him he would be fired for immoral conduct with a male escort and for being a meth-head. Now OUT Bush please!

that interview in the car was while his wife and kids were sitting right there.

Notice as he starts to really explain about the drugs, she gives him that stare that every husband has seen.

    Ouch!

How long before we hear that he is going to rehab?! Gotta silence that guy for a while, lest he spill the beans that he was W’s Meth connection, and a connection of another sort?!

Remember that guy Hager, who headed up some committee on the FDA, who was sodomizing his wife in the middle of the night? It was about that time that I thought there was some serious sexual perversion going on at the higher levels of the Bush Admin. Bush himself is a closeted gay man. Check out this site, and also the home page has tons of other dirt on the whole administration and the shit we have put up with for six years. http://mindprod.com/politics/bushismsgay.html#GAY

BTW, I am ready to extend forgiveness once Haggard earns it, as follows:

    1. Completely confess to his actions.

    2. Renounce his hypocritical stand regarding homosexuality.

    3. Acknowledge that his religion is a hateful sham, and dedicate his life to undoing the damage he has done by perpetuating the Christian fantasy myth.

    HYPOCRITES!

Hypocrisy is saying one thing and doing the opposite. What are your grounds to accuse people here of hypocrisy?

    NO ONE IS WITHOUT SIN

Sin is a myth. It is defined as “a transgression of divine law”. Since divine law is a myth, it cannot be transgressed, therefore sin is a myth.

If we want to stay rooted in the real world, we can talk about ethics, which are cultural constructs, and transgression of ethics. You could then claim that “noone is without transgression of ethics” and that would doubtless be true. However, there are differences in scale of ethical transgressions.

Haggard’s transgressions were not among the very worst (murder, rape, etc.), but are far greater than minor ethical transgressions made by the bulk of humanity. His transgressions (monumental hypocrisy and the widespread dissemination of a hate-based, anti-humanist, destructive mythology) puts him in a category far beyond the level of minor and localized ethical lapses.

I reject your notion that because none of us are ethically perfect that we cannot render judgement against a slime of Haggard’s magnitude. Indeed, we are ethically compelled to render judgement in order to make it clear that his behavior is not acceptable and that the damage he has done should be repaired by liberal application of truth, compassion, and reality.

He can be forgiven, certainly, but he has a lot of work to do first.

The person responsible for building New Life Church into a multi-million dollar enterprise was Ted Haggard. You might say the Church is his business. Why should he be kicked out just because some people believe his behavior goes against conventional norms. It’s his church…stop trying to screw him out of what he is entitled to. OK…he did a little f…king around…but whats the big deal. We’re all human!!

    Where shall we begin?

    1) He’s a lying deviant, and has NO RIGHT running a church

2)”Church” and “multi-million dollar enterprise” don’t belong in the same sentence

3)It’s not “some people” who believe his behavior is wrong, but a MAJORITY of people

4)It’s not his church, churches belong to the congregation

5)We’re all human, but he’s a role model in a power position for a supposedly Biblical enterprise!

Please, grow a brain stem before posting such ignorance.

    #29 “jeez… everybody knows what sin is… it’s just simpler…

Come on, Katy, you can do better than that. Sin, by any definition I am aware of, is a religious notion. For kbb to suggest that we “are all sinners” and therefore should forgive Haggard completely misses the fact that we don’t all buy into that religious notion in the first place. I am not beholden to that doctrine and so I am under no obligation to “forgive” on that basis.

The whole idea that “we are all sinners” is such a negative, self-defeating, and self-hating concept that it takes my breath away. It’s also a lame excuse for Haggard’s flock to look the other way.

Religion can be an extremely dangerous thing. We are protected from its excesses only by that thin scrap of paper called the Constitution. I guard it with jealosy, and you should too.

It is our duty as Americans to point out that words and concepts like “sin” serve only to mask the deep secular damage caused by Haggard and his ilk, but dressing it in religious clothing that people are afraid to touch.

I’m sorry if this causes you brain cramps, but there it is.

I think this is nuts: A guy at high status leading all these people, and frequently telling his followers that being gay is a sin, and probably drugs are bad too and you shouldn’t take them….just goes “oh sorry, I’m that guy I’ve been warning you about, see you later, I’m guilty of the same sexually immoral conduct I have been railing against my whole life, peace out.”

And the problem with this is the speaker of the house is gay, and Republican at that, making laws against gay marriage, and all that: legislation based on bigotry. The supreme court is made of old hags and stick in the mud white wiggs, and the 2 newly elected Psychopathic creatures Bushy got in there, and these people run your world!….8 people run America!…and stick in the mud, ultra conservative, government control freaks!

What is this, some kind of nut case’s view of the world where you project your own sins and everything you feel guilty about onto other people, so more than a million people will suffer their whole lives because of your misdirected guilt that shouldn’t be placed on you, but on millions of people!? This is CRAZY-NESS!

It’s completely sick! It puts into question everything the conservative voice says! Is the conservative voice just some nut with closet issues, and because of that, and because they are in power they can make millions and millions of people suffer just for this single, sick, little-minded creature!?

this garbage just proves how deadly and how much suffering goes on because of stick in the mud conservatives. Conservatives seem to be empty shells of leaves!…yet put all this nonsence into the normal, adult, and adjusted peoples!

Do you guys know how wonderful this world could be without conservative views controlling this world!? Do you know how much more advanced we would be? And I don’t mean flying cars either, I mean balls out spiritual transformation to a higher plane of existence, god-like status! Or being able to talk directly to God! Having God be your best buddy and speak to you everyday! …I am not kidding!

And for him to be an enormous hypocrite should be a wake up signal to all members of all religious flocks. Stop following these self annointed holy men…….if you are a christian,……..then start thinking about the “love thy neighbor” stuff….and “peace on earth” stuff. No person can connect you to god or jesus. You got to do it yourself. Stop acting like awestruck children…..and grow up.
I forgive Mr. Haggard….while I am sure his hate filled pitiful soul would condemn me. But then I don’t need no gay hookers. To make me feel better.

Although I take some satisfaction from seeing an evangelical pastor fall short of his own exhortations to his flock, I feel somewhat sympathetic towards the man. As I have read more about him, I understand that he was rather progressive in some of his views. His demise may actually have a negative effect in regards to the direction his megachurch and the organization of evangelical pastors he led takes from here. We may gain some political benefit from this short term. If so, I am hoping that we use that benefit in a way that demonstrates our willingness to attempt to reach consenses with our political foes on the major problems that face our country. As they would say; LORD knows there are enough to go around. A Pelosi led House would try to do that, I think.

sometimes i’m not sure which is more annoying - the religious or the atheistic proselytizers…

Wow, so now I’m a proselytizer because you have difficulty parsing complex sentences.

I’m so happy to see you know how to use dictionary.com. Too bad for your case that the definitions are fundamentally religious in tone and in origin. Any others are secondary and derivative.

    Try this one:

    proselytize

To induce someone to convert to one’s own religious faith.
To induce someone to join one’s own political party or to espouse one’s doctrine.

As I have no interest in inducing you or anyone else into anything more provocative than minding your own business and keeping out of mine, I don’t think the word fits. Rest assured, if you want to be a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jew, Wiccan, Druid, Zorastrian, Moonie, or a follower of the great pink unicorn that dwells beneath the sands of Mars, it is of no concern to me, as long as you don’t try to use the coercive powers of my government to proselytize it to others.

In short, I don’t think pointing out the logical fallacies of others is equated to proselytizing. More likely, I think you just have difficulty with big words.

Frankly, if you find it easier to deal with monosyllabic sound bites, perhaps you’re better off as a Republican where you can “stay the course” and not “cut and run” and avoid “flip flop flip flop” and say no to “do you want us to win”. Or stick with the koolaid drinkers where you can “praise the lord” and “pass the plate” and “write the check” and “close the brain”.

the same ‘authority’ deciding that katy has a right to call religious and atheists annoying and go unchecked because you all feel sorry for her.

I was the target last night, so katy’s “it” tonight?

it seems that katty chose to pick on religious and atheists, therefore making them “it”. i was just pointing this out.

so, then, by your behavior, you think what katty said is acceptable, but hold me to a far higher standard?

yes, clearly, you are the appropriate one to cast stones.

precisely. katty claims to be a progressive, but everything she posts is derogatory of anyone who thinks differently than she does. since actions speak louder than words, Republican is a more appropriate definition for her sanctimony.

I know you’re sensitive to the joke thing from last night (where I defended you, BTW), but I think I can tell when I’m being directly insulted.

It’s a sad thing when one should be attacked for putting some thought into constructing a logical post, while hit-n-run posts are praised. Sometimes hit-n-run is more effective, but sometimes making a point to “the enemy” requires some actual descriptive content.

Then in #39 she says sometimes i’m not sure which is more annoying - the religious or the atheistic proselytizers, calling me annoying and a proselytizer, equiated with the religious.

Can’t imagine how this would not be insulting.

in post 29 she insulted gorn in a more mild way. starting off a post with the word ‘jeez’ isn’t very promising. she could have been more mature about it, but she was definitely insulting him. his post was mature and intelligent and she starts off with ‘jeez’. yep, taking her side shows your hypocrisy, as we are all progressives here.

  74. Juan C Says:

Hi, Zoo, true!, katy and gorn… :)

  75. katy Says:

wow… just back from walking the dog… in time to watch rosanne on hbo shortly… the responses by YourInferiorityComplexIsShowing (aka MakesMySkinCrawl, probably) are a crack up…

    take care, ladies… and thanks… i hope i don’t have to return the favor!…

  76. YourInferiorityComplexIsShowing Says:

It’s a sad thing when one should be attacked for putting some thought into constructing a logical post, while hit-n-run posts are praised. Sometimes hit-n-run is more effective, but sometimes making a point to “the enemy” requires some actual descriptive content.

i couldn’t agree with you more. your posts was well written and respectful. katty attacked you.

  77. John Gilpins Says:

I wonder what Ted will do now? I suppose he’ll join Exodus. He doesn’t strike me as a gay guy who’s going to embrace his homosexuality with open arms–playing Village People albums, watching Will & Grace reruns, volunteering for the HRC, and moving to either The Castro, South Beach, or West Hollywood.

I think he should attend beauty school and become a hairdresser. Not one hair on Ted’s head is out-of-place. He could become Jan Crouch’s personal hairdresser. Jan needs a major makeover.

Maybe Ted could become Mark Foley’s personal assistant? No, Ted’s too old. Maybe Ted could become Paul Crouch’s personal assistant? No, Ted’s not black. Maybe Ted could become George W. Bush’s personal assistant. No, George already has too many gay assistants. Maybe Ted could become Ken Mehlman’s personal assistant. No, Ted’s not as good-looking as Roy Cohn–Ken’s hero and role model. Maybe Ted could become David Blow Dryer’s personal assistant. Hot damn! Hot damn!!! That’s it. A perfect match with David Blow Dryer–A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN. Hair! Hair! Dryer! Dryer! All you need is a case of hairspray and we’re cookin.’

Is this what has everyone all worked up?

    jeez… everybody knows what sin is… it’s just simpler…
there are lots of definitions of sin… so how can it be a myth?…
it isn’t… why complicate the matter…

    Comment by katy — November 4, 2006 @ 8:16 pm

Let’s look at what myth means…

myth  /mɪθ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[mith] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun 1. a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, esp. one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.

    3. any invented story, idea, or concept: His account of the event is pure myth.

“I have one question: was that necessary?”

    Yes!

I’m not sure why you don’t get it. My point about sin vs ethics had a cogent purpose. katy summarily dismissed it because she found it too complicated to follow. Fine, if she finds it that way, that’s ok, but she is free to skip the post and move on. She doesn’t have to insult me.

In response, it is entirely fair for me to suggest that if she wants to keep the words simple, then the style of the Rove and the religio-fascists is a perfect fit.

    It’s called IRONY, folks.

  80. trueblue Says:

    Hi Juan!
    Long time, no see!

  81. YourInferiorityComplexIsShowing Says:

But grrrrrr, what is it with the misogyny of the last two nights?

not misogyny. i assure you. thanks for the laugh…

if you’d let go of your anger for something you are mis-perceiving, you might realize that this has nothing to do with katty’s gender and everything to do with her snotty insults.

take a deep breath. sometimes you gotta call people on their spoiled brat behavior when it crosses the line. she did. more than once. in fact, it is routine with her. tonight, i decided to point it out, and find out that people i thought were fair are actually not so much.

  82. YourInferiorityComplexIsShowing Says:

You havent been around too much, right?
So, profile me. Im sure I will be a Republican in, say…about 2 posts from here.

    that’s 0 for 2 juan.

i have no beef with you. just katty.

Thank you, I accept the gracious apology.

  84. Juan C Says:

Can’t imagine how this would not be insulting.
I don’t mean to rain on your buddy parade, but the selective perception here is, in fact, annoying.
    Comment by gorn

I agree with you that she wasnt expressing in the best terms…I guess she doesnt tolerate too much religious bashing…therefore, the comment she did. I dont agree with what she said, I agree with you about the sin thing. But for me, thats not an insult. To me an insult is to see poor people begging in the streets while politicians earn fortunes while doing nothing, when people decidedly ignores its own culture, when I see people celebrating some flying jets carrying tons of bombs…you get the picture? Thats an insult for me. Ok, I know, Im nobody to say what must be an insult to you, but is it possible that you are overreacting?

  85. YourInferiorityComplexIsShowing Says:

I apologize, gorn. My comment was not directed toward you at all, please believe that.

i’m losing respect for you. i simply defended gorn, as you defend katty, yet i’m the bad guy.

I think InferiorityComplex and Goodscarrier are one and the same, and the “you guys” referred only to them.

    nope. i am not goodscarrier.

I’m not in the argument between you and katy.
    Please accept my apology, gorn.

yes you are. as well as the one between me and katy.

    I’m not angry at all.
Remember, I was the one saying “Let’s not ruin the night”?

It’s your pit bull hold on one sentence that is ruining the night. YOU need to let go.

This sounds an awful lot like “Goods” from last night; the digging in of the heels, the absolute refusal to compromise, the total black/white thinking.

I think I’ve had enough of trying to reason with you.
You have not, however, made me angry.
    Frankly, it’s not worth it.

it’s an expression to let you know that both of the judgments you made about me were incorrect.

trying to spin it into something it isn’t is what you would call a strawman.

Some numerical method to make yourself think you are winning or something? Oh, now I get your poster name.

it’s not about winning. it’s about telling katy to learn some manners. as this goes on, i see you could use them yourself.

Its not about sides…(against me or any other), its about common sense.

then use it. katty attacked gorn, and then two groups of people. common sense says that calling her on it and then getting attacked only proves that the left is no less hypocritical than the right. thanks for educating meon that juan. i used to like you before i found out tonight that you are not that far removed from those you call hateful.

none of my posts to you, zooey, or trueblue were with malice. the fact that you assume it is very disappointing.

It may take time, but in the end, they are all exposed, so wait and watch.

I certainly agree that in the grand scheme of world problems, your examples vastly trump mine! :-(

At the same time, I think these things are best approached with thoughtful consideration and logic, and I think it’s important that we not attack those who try to do so. That is the approach of The Enemy, and it is fundamentally why George Bush defeated the intellectually superior Gore and Kerry.

Okay, so a clump of broccoli is also intellectually superior to Dubya. That’s beside the point.

  94. YourInferiorityComplexIsShowing Says:

You are accusing me of what you are guilty of!

not at all. i have’t capitalized anything or used exclamation marks.

    I’m not angry at all.
Remember, I was the one saying “Let’s not ruin the night”?

    actions speak louder than words.

It’s your pit bull hold on one sentence that is ruining the night. YOU need to let go.

i haven’t ruined anything. this has persisted because you, zooey and juan just blindly defended katty’s bad behavior - very much in pit bull fashion. that’s projecting.

This sounds an awful lot like “Goods” from last night; the digging in of the heels, the absolute refusal to compromise, the total black/white thinking.

i haven’t refused to compromise. you haven’t suggested a compromise. you suggested i do what you want, and then got upset when i didn’t accept. you’ve offered no means for consensus here.

I think I’ve had enough of trying to reason with you.
You have not, however, made me angry.
    Frankly, it’s not worth it.

you haven’t tried to reason with me. you accused me of being wrong and have been becoming more forceful in your efforts to convince me that i should shut up or i am responsible for ruingin your night. child psychology doesn’t work very well on me.

the fact that you’ve blamed all this on me when i didn’t actually do anything is not really very rational of you. seems that you are attacking me to absolve anger you feel over something that someone else perpetrated last night.

    that was not me.

Wow. What an appropriate name you have…

i sorta feel sorry for the guy on one hand, because he was clearly in denial of his true sexual identity as his religious culture had taught him to do. i’d feel nearly fully sorry for him if he weren’t such a vocal oppoenent for anti-gay sentiment. he’s responsible for a lot of negative for innocent gay people.

  137. USA Says:

i wrote this in responce to a sick person’s quote on a conservative blog, it’s really good.

“the left is just filled to the brim with people who hate America”

Hahahahaha! Oh that’s funny ******. Your head so filled with fantasy and bigotry I wonder how you think you have any business in discussing anything. It’s quite a grand delusion you suffer from I just wish you could see it someday. You have so much irrational ignorance and hate it must be a product of your own self-hate that you project onto others! Or perhaps your mimicking the people you are jealous of, the Left, because they actually have a group of people they can give real and warranted criticisms to, instead of being a mimic who devalues the real critisms when using critism incorrectly.

I really have no other comment than that. Your posts never had any political merit, it’s all falsehood from a sick mind. I can’t add anything to argue about because you delete posts or ingnore the truth when people post, you ignore the truth! That’s it! There is no debate with your kind, conservatives, your just dogs going to the slaughter, and the slaughter is bigotry, the absence of a human conscienceness, guilt, feeling, care, or truth. And you never listen. You don’t care. And that’s what makes you less than the rest of us humans. The Left is out here debating and talking, but the Conservatives act agressive, irrational, unwavering, arrogant and ignore the thinkers and discourse, perfectly happy to be a obstacle, a trouble maker, a pain in the butt for everyone else. Yet still having a void, they should be happy that they have their own group, the goal of being a obstacle for someone, it’s the very thing that makes Conservatives a counter to the Left and also the very thing that gives them this void, it is the absence of truth and being actually right.

It may mean the same thing, but there sure is a bigger connotation to “Fired” than “Forced to resign”

What do you think wll be the impact at the polls?

I like Feingold. I wish he’d speak up more. Maybe he is, but the MSM isn’t covering it. Who knows? We just need someone who isn’t going to f*cking cave every time a wingnut says BOO.

no kidding. the passivity of some of these folks is staggering. it’s a wonder they were ever elected to in the first place.

well, officially by the think progress timeclock, we’ll see in two more days what we’re dealing with. if the democrats do take over both the house and senate, perhaps that will give them the inspiration they need to be better leaders, while energizing the party.

    Wow,
I am searching the web because of the whole Ted Haggard thing and came across your site here. To read what you all seem to feel shocks me. Some of you actually think things like…

That’s it! There is no debate with your kind, conservatives, your just dogs going to the slaughter, and the slaughter is bigotry, the absence of a human conscienceness, guilt, feeling, care, or truth. And you never listen. You don’t care. And that’s what makes you less than the rest of us humans.

This has certainly been an interesting read. I don’t agree with liberals on many issues, but I certainly wouldn’t call them dogs, or say they are less than the rest of us humans. I would actually discuss the issues. The thing is, you have listened to a small, yet public, slice of conservative thought, and you assume anyone who has conservative beliefs must be mindless idiots. Yet, you even argue with eachother and call eachother disparaging names and, for lack of a better word this late at night, idiots - when you don’t agree among yourselves.
I am bummed that the Haggard thing has given you one more reason to lump all Christians together and say that since we are still sinners God must not be real. I pray that God will put some people in your lives who can introduce you to who He really is. I’m not a Christian because I believe something, I’m a Christian because I have met Jesus Christ. He’s really more than I could ever explain. You trying to convince me He isn’t real, is like trying to convince me my mom isn’t real. You’ve never met her either, but she’s real. Jesus loves everyone. I don’t agree that Christians should try to get non-Christians to follow God’s commands. We can only live by them through the power of the Holy Spirit, and even then we fall short. It’s true that God calls lots of behaviors “sin” - but what does it matter what a non-Christian does? All He cares about with a non-Christian is that he come to know Jesus in a saving realationship. That said. I do believe our society has a right to make laws that reflect people’s beliefs/feeling. There are laws against jay-walking, but you don’t seem to mind. Jay-walking doesn’t hurt anyone, usually - and neither does gay sex. Our society allows us to make laws, and define marriage how we see fit. I don’t think peoples sexual conduct has any relevance in the national scene, I also don’t think homosexual marriage has to be recognized by the state. If it winds up being recognized, it will be a disappointment to me, but that’s about it. Not all of us are the hate-mongers you think we are. In fact, there is no “all of us”. Conservatives are individuals with varying positions on most issues.

  159. Zooey Says:

Thanks, conservative. You’re preaching to the choir. We have many commenters on TP, from atheists to devout christians, and those who are very spiritual, and others not, so much.

If you hang around long enough, you might just see that most of us do not lump true christians in with the whackjobs.

    Peace and Blessings…

Self-described conservative visitors to this site are rarely interested in dicussing or debating. They are usually trying to derail the conversation, berate, belittle, and demean anyone who is not a conservative.

    You are an exception.

you assume anyone who has conservative beliefs must be mindless idiots.

With all due respect, most self-described conservatives behave like mindless idiots. The thing is, the conservative movement has become a Bush personality cult. Anyone not prostrating themselves before the engraved image of the Great (mis)Leader is a traitor, terrorist appeaser, godless, un-American, should die, etc.

Conservatives have come to expect the Republican party, public figures (Limbaugh et al), and their churches to tell them how to vote and how to live. That is exactly what mindless idiots do.

You trying to convince me He isn’t real, is like trying to convince me my mom isn’t real.

I doubt anyone here will try to convince one way or another. See, some people here are devout Christians, some not so much, and others not at all. There is no unified opinion on religious matters.

Not all of us are the hate-mongers you think we are.

And yet, that is the side most conservatives posting here choose to show. You should read the angry, venomous tirades some of them post. Truly deranged stuff.

Although I have to admit the level of animosity has decreased since the disaffection with the Iraq war has grown.

Which brings me to my last point: The ongoing occupation of Iraq has been made possible by the unwavering support Pres Bush gets from his conservative base. Lives are being lost, people are getting hurt, money is being thrown down the toilet because conservatives would rather help their Great (mis)Leader save face than admit they were wrong and get people out of harm’s way. By continuing to support Pres Bush’s immoral foreign policy, they have become an immoral, unethical lot.

    I won’t hold my breath…

The thing is, you have listened to a small, yet public, slice of conservative thought, and you assume anyone who has conservative beliefs must be mindless idiots.

Conservatives are not the problem. Christians are not the problem.

The problem is neocon fascists masquerading as normal conservatives, and Christo-fascists masquerading as normal Christians. These groups have hijacked the Republican party, cowed the Democratic party, and crushed dissenting voices for the past six years.

I feel that true conservatives and those who have respect for the Constitution would want to vote Democratic on Tuesday, not because they agree with Democrats, but because they agree with the current regime even less.

True conservatives believe in fiscal restraint, small government, and cautious foreign interventions. Ordinary Christians understand that government neutrality in matters of religion and morality is the best protection for their own religious rights. Look at what has happened over the past 6 years and it should be obvious that these ideals have been demolished.

These monsters who currently have a stranglehold on the government are using conservatives and using Christians for their own largely incompatible ends.

You should vote Democratic for that reason alone. If you can’t bring yourself to do that, then withhold your vote as a personal protest.

You have a very limited sampling of self-described conservatives. I haven’t visited this site before tonight, but I take your word for the conservatives you’ve heard from being the things you mentioned above. However, I know lots of conservatives, and none of them are the kind of person you describe. If you want to be progressive thinking, then it seems to me you owe it to yourself to get to know what mainstream conservatives think based on who they are, not based on what some public figure says. Do you really think the thousands of people who disagree with you about political issues are all Pat Robertson puppets? (you can put in any name that works for you there)

As far as being Bush worshippers goes…
Again, you insist on blaming people who think differently than you of being mindless. That’s not progressive thinking. That’s not even an issue to discuss. I happen to agree with President Bush on many issues. I am appauled by some of the ways things have been handled by this administration. - Katrina aft
