great… but i sure wish i had this to send out to my list this morning…
last week would have been ideal… guess it’s not too late for some…
    thanks…

  3. gorn Says:

Let’s not forget the most important reason of all.

One-party rule is destroying our country.

  4. ElecticBassPlayer Says:

I think the Republican Congress is a series of tubes.

  5. JP Says:

Its 109 reasons allright. “cowards cut and run, Marines never do.” most definately counts as 2.

  6. wisedup Says:

    TED WAS RIGHT….I found it!….U-Tube!…..lol.

  7. The Unknown Democrat Says:

I couldn’t agree more, and I got one more reason to throw the bums out. Just because! This do nothing, stand for nothing, do anything, say anything whether it’s true or not republican rubberstamp to get elected bunch of bozos has to go. I’ve never seen a more hateful group of fear mongering aholes in my life and I hope they all lose. The one that I’m really getting the most pleasure out of seeing twist in the wind is Sen. George Allen. That no good, low down, lousy, evil, racist bastard needs to lose his job.

Sen. Allen needs to stop faking and join the Klan openly because he sure agrees with them completely. Also Sen. Rick Santorium is another rightwing, I’ll impose my fake values on you whether you like it or not jerk that I’m glad is losing his job. Ricky Santorium only has himself to thank for being defeated. If he wasn’t such an ahole, more people might agree with him. This guy make my skin crawl when he talks, he reminds me of a young Hilter without the mustache.

I can’t wait until the election is over so I can laugh my ignorant azz off at the republicans crying over spilled milk. Yes, you are going to lose and I hope you lose both houses of congress. That moron had better start shredding papers like Nixon did if he wants to avoid being impeached. Apparently someone forget to tell him that the people are his boss and not Dickey boy. And he also forget that the last King George got his azz handed to him when he went against the people of the United States. We may be scared by the fear mongering repeated references to 9-11, but we’re not as stupid as he looks.

  9. mighty aphrodite Says:

Dear Progs - I’ll give you THREE reasons Dems should no be trusted with anything more dangerous than rounded school safety scissors.:
1.) The Dem platform clearly illustrates what they are against. Unfortunately, what they are “FOR” is nebulous…..
2.) “Dems” and “National Security” is an oxyMORON
3.) Dems - in the personna of Harry Reid, have not defined the term “middle class” - above which they intend to raise taxes to re-distribute the wealth (which is not theirs to re-distribute.)

    Tomorrow should be fun!!

  10. aquietobserver Says:

    # 31 should be “affects” effect is a noun, not a verb.

  11. JustSomeDude Says:

Off topic, but funny as hell even Faux News STILL can’t admit dems are winning, just gotta see this haha..

  12. CONservative Says:

#9…you mean the same way ‘compassionate conservative’ is an oxymoron? And on your first point, the Republiecan platform, at least the lies that come out of their mouth are just that…LIES!! Anyone not swillin the Kool-Aid knows what they stand for is fascism, plain and simple.

  13. mighty aphrodite Says:

Dear Con - Your “compassionate conservative” line was original - six years ago. Get some new material…..

  14. WaltTheMan Says:

    #10 - aquietobserver,
‘effect’ is also a transitive verb in both the OED and Webster’s.

  15. Marie Says:

GWB cut and ran from the search for a missing GI in Iraq last week.
Bush cut and ran from Afghanistan in 2003.
Bush cuts and runs from truth, facts and reality.
The candidates are cutting and running from GWB.

  16. trueblue Says:

    Mighty Assbag:
Tomorrow the Dem’s will take it.
If there is (ONCE MORE) tampering by the Repug’s,
    there will be demonstrations.
*Everyone* is stating the Dem’s will take over.
If it *magically* doesn’t happen, it’s because of the massive cheating of your horrible party.

Can’t wait to see you Wednesday.
    :)

  17. Marie Says:

    #7 unknown democrat
    I LOVE it!

  18. CONservative Says:

Yes it may be old sweetheart, but sadly still applicable if we’re gonna talk about oxymorons. Speaking of morons, your boys in the White House who are wreckin this country give us plenty of material, not feelin I need to come up with any of my own. But if I absolutely HAVE to come up with something, I’ll be sure to check out ‘the Google’!

  19. Karim Says:

all excellent reasons to get real legislators in the House and Senate.

  20. Jeff Says:

    Schiavo…

  21. unbelievable Says:

MA is just upset that Reverend Ted did what he needs to do - come out of the closet…

I voted via absentee ballot last week. Decided not to help Diebold steal my vote…

  22. Jim Source Says:

I understand the GOP will run a Foley-Haggard ticket in 2008 under the theme of “Cumpassionate Perversionism.”

  23. Pete_Bogs Says:

I’m frankly amazed you could fit it all in in 109!

  24. Hardy Haberman Says:

My reason is that they long ago gave away their power and duty as a governing body. They do not do their job and have thrown out checks and balances. Oh yea, and they are ugly too.

  25. RUCerious Says:

I have 2836 reasons. One for each service member killed in Iraq.

  26. John Gilpins Says:

A good percentage of the electorate is pretty dumb. How many of them can even count past 50. I think this list should not be over 50– max. Realistically, I’d say the list should be around 10. Seriously! Seriously!

Approximately 35% still think George W. Bush is doing a great job. This statistic is unbelievable. What does it take to wake these folks up?

Democrats, set your sights low tomorrow. One Republican overseeing a voting machine is one too many for me.

Karl Rove is predicting good election results tomorrow. Ooooooh! Ooooooh! I think Karl knows something we don’t know. Only fools trust voting machines. We all know the 2000 election was stolen, and most likely the 2004 election, too.

Pay close attention to the backgound music at your local voting precinct tomorrow.

Hearing a GOP staffer play, ‘YOUR CHEATIN’ HEART’ IS NOT A GOOD SIGN.’

    John

  27. Jamies Says:

Apparently, the Republicans have a big, very very gay, problem.

    The Republican’s Big Gay Problem

    So big and gay….ok?

  28. jay Says:

Let’s not forget the most important reason of all.

One-party rule is destroying our country.

    Comment by gorn — November 6, 2006 @ 6:12 pm

So when the dems controlled congress for forty years as well as the white house, that wasn’t one party rule. Just listen to yourself!

  29. Bluedog49 Says:

Mighty A: ““Dems” and “National Security” is an oxyMORON”

Then please explain why at least two veterans groups consistently give Dems higher marks for what they call “supporting the troops.” Also, you might want to explain why the biggest terrorist attack in history came on republican watch and current republican policies have made the world a more dangerous place according to our own intelligence agencies.

  30. Paul Jackson Says:

I have so many reasons, and I am so passionate on this issue, that I can’t even think straight right now, and so have aborted the comment that i was going to post and I’m just typing this.

Bush and his administration need to be reigned in by democratic congress. He literally is the worst president ever, by a ten-fold margin. It will take decades to clean up the mess he has created, both in foreign policy and domestic econonomy and environmental issues.

We’ve got to start the cleanup NOW!

  31. Jamie Z Says:

I’m ashamed to be an American. What happened to the good old days when democracy actually worked??

Congress blows. Let’s vote change tomorrow.

  32. jay Says:

    #9

I would agree whole-heartily with you. The dems think they have duplicated 1994, well I can assure that they haven’t! They have not given America a reason to vote for them, only reasons not to vote Republican. If they actually had a plan for national security and thought twice about raising taxes, maybe then there would be one, although slight at best. After Tuesday, when the Republicans retain both houses, rest assured, on Wednesday we will hear nothing but how the elections were rigged, fixed etc,. My question is why are all the poll numbers suddenly tightening? If the previous eleven months’ polls were right, which I seriously doubt, why are voters suddenly changing their minds? I believe people know how they are going to vote long before November.

  33. bananarepublic Says:

Impeachable crimes of GW Bush - 1) cooking up fake evidence of Iraqi WMDs with the help of the Iraqi National Congress, Cheney and the CIA, 2) lying to Congress and the American people about the reasons he wanted to invade Iraq, 3) Spying on the American public using a ‘worse than Watergate’ illegal domestic surveillance program, 4) Looting the US Treasury for the benefit of his too-wealthy cronies, 5) participating in deliberate electoral fraud and the manipulation of US elections.

Congress is rotten. The Supreme Court (who put Bush in power) is rotten. They’re unaccountable and they pass laws that stand the US Constitution on it’s head. Under the ‘rule of law’ a good chunk of the Bush Administration and the Congress belong in jail… but where’s the special prosecutor? Where’s Ken Starr?

  34. jay Says:

    #34

Democracy still works in this country! Your side just doesn’t have the right ideas for enough Americans to support them. Case in point, democrats have said they will repeal the Bush tax cuts. Why would anyone, especially the middle class vote for higher taxes? Thats just stupidity. See.

  35. mighty aphrodite Says:

“I voted via absentee ballot last week. Decided not to help Diebold steal my vote…” Comment by unbelievable

*****Congratulations - now you can get over to St. Louis in time to help ACORN and the Dems vote dead people who are MIRACULOUSLY registered. (Being the reknown architect, I’m surprised to find you living in such a BIG glass house….)

  36. jay Says:

    #36

So how much lower could the unemployment rate get than 4.4% with a democrat in charge? Its a crime that Bush and the Republican party are not getting the credit that they rightly deserve because of the fricking liberal media we have in this country,

  37. Dog_named_Boo Says:

    1. Congress set a record for the fewest number of days worked — 218 between the House and Senate combined.

They only work 218 days but managed to get their lazy asses on TV every day and weekend!

Seems their job is to spread rhetoric to me

  38. jay Says:

    #33

So the Carter years were filled with bliss? Interest and inflation rates at double digits and high unemployment plus we were an embarrashment in the world for the Iranian Hostage situation. Sorry, but I don’t ever want to go back to those years.

  39. mighty aphrodite Says:

#32 - “Then please explain why at least two veterans groups consistently give Dems higher marks for what they call “supporting the troops.”
    Comment by Bluedog

*******Dear BluePUPPY - No problem - Failing to mention the names of the groups was just an oversight on your part, I’m sure. The veterans groups found to support Dems, tend to be Dems - WHAT a surprise! They sound like the troops John Kerry was referencing: those too stupid to get real jobs - so they end up in the military….

  40. Dog_named_Boo Says:

ACORN and the Dems vote dead people who are MIRACULOUSLY registered

Dead people don’t have picture ID’s how are they gonna vote MA?

  41. Bluedog49 Says:

Jay: “Democracy still works in this country! Your side just doesn’t have the right ideas for enough Americans to support them.”

Jay, go look at some public opinion polls at Pollingreport.com. What you will find is that on almost every single issue, Democrats are more in tune with the American people. And, keep in mind that 11 million more Americans voted for Democratic Senatorial candidates than Republicans in the last election. And, if you were an honest person, you would admit what most of us already know: Dems have no plans to raise taxes on the middle class. They want to return the highest brackets to what they were under Clinton. Yes, they want to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans.

  42. ggibson Says:

    Comment by jay

Democrats are not above corruption - what happens is that when one party is in power too long, their arrogant complacence is their downfall. It happened to Democrats and it will happen now to Republicans.

Remember Lord Acton: Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
What the Republicans have done is shoot themselves in the foot by not questioning Bush, by rubber stamping his cockamamie programs, by allowing the Constitution to be shredded bit by bit, by lining their own pockets during a war, by not representing the people who employ them.
We have a “checks and balance” form of government but one party rule under a man who thinks he is king is doomed.

They give Dems much higher grades on supporting the troops. For example, Nancy Pelosi, who you don’t like, gets a B+, but Dennis Hastert, who you do like, gets an F. The other group which maintains Dems are better at supporting troops is Disabled Veterans of America.

But really Jay Bush isn’t the head of some corporation, nor does he tell people when to hire and fire Americans. You cannot give credit where it is not due. I am glad to see the unemployment rate down, but remember it does not include people who no longer collect unemployment.

Now the deficits, war, war profiteering, corruption that we can credit Bushco with!

‘IT’S RAINING MEN’ has George W, Karl Rove, and Ken Mehlman movin’ their butts on the platform stage. ‘I WILL SURVIVE’ is a personal favorite of George W. Let’s just say it used to be.

I think George W. better sing ‘I WILL SURVIVE’ to Donald Rumsfeld.

I love the Gap song, ‘YOU DROPPED A BOMB ON ME.’

By Cooper’s count, George W. Bush issued 23 signing statements in 2001; 34 statements in 2002, raising 168 constitutional objections; 27 statements in 2003, raising 142 constitutional challenges, and 23 statements in 2004, raising 175 constitutional criticisms. In total, during his first term Bush raised a remarkable 505 constitutional challenges to various provisions of legislation that became law.

That number may be approaching 600 challenges by now. Yet Bush has not vetoed a single bill, notwithstanding all these claims, in his own signing statements, that they are unconstitutional insofar as they relate to him.

Rather than veto laws passed by Congress, Bush is using his signing statements to effectively nullify them as they relate to the executive branch. These statements, for him, function as directives to executive branch departments and agencies as to how they are to implement the relevant law.

Hey MA that GOP congress sure got alot done!!

A wealthy person pays the same $100 for the registration on his Benz and doesn’t miss a penny. The Republicans are “great” at predicting “what ifs” and then paint a horrible picture of what the future would look like if Democrats were in charge.

Well, what if the Republican monopoly on power were to continue? What would be the likely outcome?

    1. The War in Iraq would expand to include first Iran, then Syria, then Saudi Arabia.

    2. Instead of initiating a draft, Republicans will hire mercenary armies like Blackwater.

    3. Military spending will continue to be “off budget” thus concealing its effect on the deficit.

    4. Tax cuts to the very rich will be permanent, placing the greatest share of the tax burden on the working class.

    5. The working class will continue to shrink as jobs are outsourced overseas.

    6. The burgeoning deficit will necessitate eliminating all social programs. Funding for health, education and welfare will be eliminated. Social security will be privatized, followed by scandals in which millions of senior citizens lose everything.

    7. There will be a two-class society in America: the very rich, and the very poor.

    8. Protesting the Government will be considered an Act of Treason, and protesters will be tortured until they confess, then publically executed.

    9. The American economy collapses under burgeoning debt, deficit spending, and the lack of a working/manufacturing base upon which to support paying interest on the national debt.

    10. America descends into the status of a third world country when China forecloses on the national debt. The super rich take their money, protected in off-shore accounts, and leave.

    11. European Union States hold the rights to products designed to be both energy efficient and negate the effects of global warming.

    12. The year is 2012, the end of the Mayan Calendar. There is no rapture. No “end times.” America will spend the next several generations paying for the excesses of a few short years of Republican Rule.

  102. gorn Says:

    MA,

Just curious, who is it that you expect to pay for the $9 trillion debt, including the $1-2 trillion estimated lifetime cost of the Iraq war? Who should pay for it, and how should the money be raised?

    Please be specific.

For a family of 4 earning double the minimum wage, paying off “their share” would require 100% of their income for six consecutive years, assuming no interest is collected. This is no problem provided they have no need of food or shelter.

Your boys in charge seem to have a two-part strategy with regard to debt: (1) accumulate as much of it as possible, and (2) let somebody in the future worry about how to pay it back.

When the government borrows massively to pay for things like war, the primary dividends of those actions go into the bank accounts of the rich, such as the principals of Haliburton. I find it morally repugnant that the government would enable war profiteering today at the expense of future generations (rich and poor alike). It is even more repugnant given that the poor are contributing a disproportionate share of effort to the war already -in terms of the hard work, health, and lives of their sons and daughters.

So, I would like to know how you expect this money to be paid back to all those Chinese creditors we are amassing, without raising taxes by one penny.

BTW, I think raising taxes is the second most evil thing a government official can do. The most evil thing of all is taking on debt that has no repayment plan in place, and then vilifying those who would try to address the debt head-on.

  117. JPark Says:

Mr. Evil, I am looking forward to it :) Seriously, though, KOS is the New Republic of blogs. They are cowardly and centrist. I would love to see what you had deleted (I certainly hope it was a mistake that it was deleted). Yeti Steve has a small penis, he can’t help it and it was probably too fast to be deleted just like this post that calls Stevie a Foley meat puppet.

  118. JPark Says:

No, Steve, it isn’t clear enough. If you don’t believe that stopping the current path is the most important thing and that blocking every damned destructive bill the right has to offer than you are clueless.

    Alright everyone just calm down.

ForTruth - easier said than done. For those of us more sensitive than others to the metaphysical vibes…maintaining a sense of calm is…difficult. Ask Zooey. She understands.

Children are affected…and they don’t understand why they are on edge. Thoughts do affect matter.

TP should offer a checkbox for those that can handle tough language and one for those that are scared to death of it (so that it will only show up as **** for example). So that way a 46 year old man, like myself, doesn’t have to be babysat by an obviously flawed application or by a 20 something techie. Most of the regulars here are over 30 and live in the real world and talk the same here just as they would at their homes or at a bowling alley or at a ballgame. I’m not afraid of words, I’m afraid of real actions by real people, like George Bush!

  121. JPark Says:

Ok, Mr. Evil, my post was deleted immediately so I guess they are paying attention (I knew very well they would delete that one :) ). I would love to see what you posted to see why it was deleted. Kos isn’t the answer. They are New Republic, DLC types.

  122. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Yeti - Yes, I understand. We’re on the same page on that.

    Peace and Blessings.

  123. Mr. Evil Says:

Yeti_Steve, why do you think a democratic congress would be more ineffective than the one we have at present? It couldn’t possibly be any worse.

  124. Yeti_Steve Says:

JPark, I don’t think you want to understand my position. While I agree Bush needs to be stopped, I also think that there are alot of problems in this country that need to be solved like inner city schools, and welfare and everything that’s been falling through the cracks ever since the Republicans took control of the House and Senate. I’m saying what I would like to see in a congress, not what is actually going to happen if the Democrats take power. And while I find a Democratic Congress preferable (hence why I’m voting Democrat), I’m still disatisfied with the way everything will be run.

  125. Mr. Evil Says:

Yeah, JPark, I know, but I’d miss all you miscreants anyway. So for the time being you’re all stuck with me. Besides, Mighty Aphrodummy is good for some free entertainment now and then!

And just kidding about the miscreants thing. We are all here for the most part simply because we care.

you can forsee the future? wow… neat.

  127. Yeti_Steve Says:

Mr. Evil, all I’ve seen over the last few years is the Republican party coming up with terrible bills and Democrats supporting them. The Democrats lack firm ideas like the Republicans have, and in some cases the Democratic candidate is almost exactly like the Republican.

A Simple, Personal Video/Photo Record Of Your Vote?

Many people carry cellphones with built-in digital cameras. Some even record video…

I plan to record my voting activities on my camera phone to ensure that I have my OWN personal record of my votes - and any subsequent irregularities that might occur.

Are there laws restricting the use of any such capture devices during the process of voting?

  129. Mr. Evil Says:

This was one of my more disparaging posts directed to Mighty AlwaysMouthy posted earlier (#68) and it was not deleted. I didn’t even come anywhere close to that in the ones that were deleted and that sucks.

So, here is the one that should have been deleted if any:

Mighty Assabitey, Mighty Assadummy, Mighty Assmunch, Mighty Asshole, Mighty Asshat, Mighty Aphrodizzy, Mighty Aphrodingy, Mighty Assawipey… What do you think you are going to accomplish here? To get people to forget and disregard the truth? Do you really believe it is more imperative to follow Bush and the other completely corrupted republicans in congress today than to hold on to what it is that makes America what it is, the constitution and bill of rights? I would never vote for a republican of today. They are heartless, visionless, morally bankrupt and deceitful. Please tell us once and for all what it is about them that turns you on so much because none of your arguments carry any weight.

  130. JPark Says:

Yeti, katy brings up a good question. Why are you dissatisfied by what they will do?

  131. JPark Says:

#143 Which Democrats Yeti? From what I have seen almost every bill has been down party lines. The majority of Democrats has been against every bad bill the Thugs have brought up.

  132. Mr. Evil Says:

#143 Yeti_Steve: Yes, I agree, but for this election I’m willing to put aside my cynicism about that aspect of the spineless democrats and vote democratic down the line. Like the ones that still support the war in Iraq. They are playing that game of not appearing weak. I believe not supporting this bullshit war is an appearance of strength.

  133. JPark Says:

Mr. Evil, maybe all of the Ass references. Though he (yes, he) is an ass.

  134. Yeti_Steve Says:

What about the PATRIOT Act? Lots of Democrats supported that.

  135. JPark Says:

Ok, you just brought up one bill. One that the public supported (yes, stupid but…). Do you really think the sheep are going to get over their fear of terrrrrists overnight? So, you are saying the Dems should have gone against a very large majority? (I do but that doesn’t mean they were wrong to vote the way they did).

  136. Mr. Evil Says:

Well, JPark, what about the 12 democratic senators that supported the Military Commissions Act. Only a paranoid, bootlicking monkey would have voted for that bill.

  137. clinton bowen Says:

in order to change the government we must change the constitution. The constitution is a 200+ year old technology. Lets upgrade it!

    Constitution 2.0

  138. JPark Says:

#152 Yeah, they suck. Does that mean a Democratic majority would pass such a bill?

  139. JPark Says:

Mr. Evil, I wasn’t calling you an ass. That was for MA (in case you misunderstood).

  140. Yeti_Steve Says:

Well they still did the wrong thing and supported it, didn’t they? Why the hell are we even arguing about any of this? I mean, I don’t even disagree with you, really. I just decided to vent some frustration about the system in general. If you think that the Democrats are as cohesive a political machine as the Republicans, I’d have to disagree but what the hell. In any case, I need to go. Good night.
