CNN just released the first exit polls, showing that national issues matter more than local issues to voters this year, with the issue of corruption leading:

Additionally, 57 percent of the voters polled disapprove of the way the Iraq war is being run.
UPDATE: “”The reporting on the importance of national issues is off - again. It’s not correct to say that Iraq is less important than corruption or terrorism to people’s vote — it’s solely a function of question wording. The items listed on television are rated individually as “How important is this issue to you” and not against one another or as a motivator for voting.” — John Halpin

Very surprising. Glad to see CNN seperated “terrorism” from “Iraq”

November 7th, 2006 at 5:31 pmGee, these guys are not corrupt or anything….the are already declaring themselves the winners, though!!!
Asshats.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:31 pmThat sounds good to me. Hard for Dems to be “corrupt” if they’ve not been in power. ;-)
November 7th, 2006 at 5:32 pmOdd stats, terrorism was ranked sixth yesterday at 12%. Good to see a national referendum and ethics matter but if its economy the Condumbs place greed before nation
November 7th, 2006 at 5:32 pmWOO HOO! THE REPUBLICANS ARE IN THEIR LAST THROES!!!!
November 7th, 2006 at 5:32 pmEven here in Georgia, Bush is criticized on a regular basis. Someone in my fourth period today said that they couldn’t wait for Bush to be gone, and no one challenged the comment.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:34 pmZogby is reporting that republicans will hold the Senate and with the early returns, looks like they may hold the House. Better get out and vote.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:35 pmThe “Contract With America”is over.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:35 pmBreached by the lying Republicans.
America is mad as He**, and we’re not going to take it anymore.
Thus has America become under the rule of the Bannana Republicans.
With luck and a little fortune, America can clean up it’s mess. Let’s hope Emperor Bush is just a short dark momentary footnote in our history as a nation.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:35 pm62% national? The idiots in the press are wrong again, eh?
Note how “terrorism” and “Iraq” are not only inseparate categories, they’re registering different numbers. A fundamental Republican meme is dead, dead, dead.
Nice.

Hrmm,
People don’t seem to care about one of the best economies in history. That doesn’t look good for the Repugs.

I hope you know that the site you linked is a total gag site.
It’s a parody.
But funny as all get out!
November 7th, 2006 at 5:38 pmDon’t worry about the early polling, there is no way the Repugs can hold on to the House.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:39 pmIf the Repugs do stay in power, we should expect history to repeat itself…
Berlin Churches Establish Bureau to Win Back Worshippers
Wireless to the New York Times.
BERLIN, May 13. - In Freethinkers Hall, which before the Nazi resurgence was the national headquarters of the German Freethinkers League, the Berlin Protestant church authorities have opened a bureau for advice to the public in church matters. Its chief object is to win back former churchgoers and assist those who have not previously belonged to any religious congregation in obtaining church membership.
The German Freethinkers League, which was swept away by the national revolution, was the largest of such organizations in Germany. It had about 500,000 members …

November 7th, 2006 at 5:41 pmThe fact that corruption beat out terrorism by 2% makes me giggle.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:42 pm#1 - Yes, CNN has done that almost from the start of the war. Fox will show IRaq coverage and fly “War on Terror” graphics, but CNN will fly “Fight for Iraq” or some such. It’s been this way for as long as I can remember.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:43 pmI was a bit surprised to hear this as it gives some credence to Dem efforts to push the culture of corruption storyline.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:43 pmAmerica’s Least Wanted
Sigh, look. My dear liberals. How can you complain about the Bush regime? Seriously. The have such wonderful diversity of evil! There’s the snarling, cartoonish evil of Dick Cheney. The smooth, diabolical evil of Richard Perle. (The “Prince of Darkness”, for crying out loud!) The old, skull-like evil of Donal Rumsfeld and the aggressive, deceitful evil of Condi Rice. The bumbling, inept evil of… pretty much everyone else. What about the names? “Office of Special Plans”? And the logos! Remember Total Information Awareness? Can’t get more diverse than that!
Really, if you truly support diversity, you need to support the Bush junta.

“Exit Polls Show Corruption”… this got me excited… but it wasn’t about any disparity between exit polls and DRE results. Surprisingly few problems with electronic voting so far, which means that (1) the threats were exaggerated and/or (2) the threats will materialize quietly at the tabulation level. Maintain alertness.

Roger - have you been asleep for the past 6 years and woke up still thinking Bill Clinton is President?
The economy under Bush is a mess. I challenge you to prove otherwise.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:44 pmWell I hope the voters realize that the entire GOP membership in DC are 100% corrupt, so do NOT vote for any Republicans!
November 7th, 2006 at 5:47 pmIf these early reports are correct, there is only one explaination; Republicans are interferring with the process. The idea that the American people would want to retain these losers in power is ridiculous. Get out to the polling places and make sure you vote and your vote is being counted!

Roger Roger, human lives and our troops are more important to us than money. I hope someday you, too, value life over money.

People don’t seem to care about one of the best economies in history. That doesn’t look good for the Repugs.
People care about their own economy. They care about their tax dollars going into the pockets of Republican congressmen and their big business friends who get the government contracts. They’re getting tired of being ripped off by corrupt bastards in Congress. Real people aren’t benefitting from the economy that you’ve narrowly defined as a sound one. It’s not sound for average Americans. It’s only sound for the investor class, and that doesn’t include most of us.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:51 pmwe will win, gorm.
There’s no way they can turn this around on us.
November 7th, 2006 at 5:53 pmI’ve heard people say they predict a 30 seat win to Dem’s.
Senate has been a bit mixed, but most I heard also has Senate getting the lead.
We will prevail.
Woot no GAY MARRIAGE and FLAG BURNING
November 7th, 2006 at 5:53 pmmust be the liberal media bias at work.
Something’s fishy. The national exit polls aren’t being reflected in the local and regional results. Will this be another stolen election?
November 7th, 2006 at 5:54 pmgorm > the GOP affiliated press is trying to scare Democrats from voting! They want Democrats to believe the election is a lost cause, but all reports I hear are that record numbers of anti GOP voters are flooding the polling places. Big problem is the vote machines cannot handle or process the votes fast enough and some places are running out of paper ballots, so it looks like tens of thousands of voters might be prevented from voting in the last few hours. I am sure Karl Rove factored this into his cheating scheme. Nonetheless I do not believe Rove can cheat enough to hold onto the House, but he could steal the Senate to remain in GOP hands. So anyway try to vote no matter what and NOT for Republicans!

And, sadly, it is because the corporate masters of the right wing establishment have convinced many Americans that a successful personal economy will bring them happiness, security and well being.

November 7th, 2006 at 6:15 pmDemocrats and Republicans are both selling America out.
Effective Jan. 14th - any U.S. citizen will have to receive written permission to leave the USA. This is the same format as Nazi Germany and the old Soviet Union.

I don’t care if your Democrat or Republican or green party … if you want the USA to exist as a sovereign nation under the constitution you better get ready for armed conflict coming to a town near you.
November 7th, 2006 at 6:16 pm[…] Anyways, exit poll data started making its way to networks a little while ago, and CNN started reporting a few generic issue results (corruption is the biggest issue by far– a great sign for Democrats). […]

Maybe you haven’t noticed, but Republicans not only run everything, but they have changed rules in the House and Senate to give the minority even fewer powers than they had before, so wtf are you talking about? This “permission to leave” thing is all Bush! Don’t blame democrats for this fascism. If you want oversight, vote for the Dem.
November 7th, 2006 at 7:12 pm#50 good job at falling into the Democan/Repubcrat trap.
November 7th, 2006 at 7:16 pmRandom Righty, if your argument is that there is no difference between Dems and Repubs, why don’t you vote for a Dem for a change? You know, just for balance, because there’s really no difference anyway. Just do it.

Why dont you do some research before you open your piehole and spew crap …
Clinton could have flushed NAFTA down the toilet - instead he made it the first thing he signed after being elected. Started by Reagan, continued by Bush Sr., finished by Clinton.
Clinton’s Omni Bus crime bill is an exact copy of the patriot act:

What have the Dems done in Congress besides roll over for Bush?
You better get this partisanship out of your head … they are rich politicians …period.
Do your research next time.

They all meet and vacation together every year at Davos, Switzerland, the Bilderberg Group, Bohemian Grove … etc.
They sit around and laugh at tard’s like you - sheeple.
Why did Kerry come out with that off the wall comment the week of the election about the military? He is George Bush’s freakin’ cousin and Skull & Bones Yale classmate - that’s why. Why didn’t he contest the last election instead of bowing out?
It’s just like the WWF - which i am sure you probably believe in too.

November 8th, 2006 at 11:41 am“How important is this issue to youâ€, corruption, terrorism, economy, Iraq.
What a controlled meaningless poll. Notice how the obvious was completely left off to skew the result? IMMIGRATION folks.
As California, Texas and parts of New Mexico and Arizona morph into a colony of Mexico. Well over a million American refugees flee the southwest every year. We’re filling up into the mid-west, into the northwest as the country is disassembled, conquered. A million refugees every year, liberals/conservatives alike leaving as refugees. It’s not “illegal” immigration, or a magical sheet of paper giving citizenship…it’s changing demographics. Would YOU live in a neighborhood that’s 10% white? Then by God, how can a man of honour force that demographic on his children? He can’t, if he’s a man of honour. There’s one issue, the one ignored, the one that doesn’t exist….it’s IMMIGRATION.
November 8th, 2006 at 1:22 pm[…] The past few days have seen a lot of change. Tuesday started out and almost everybody expected the Democrats to take the House, the Senate was unknown, and we were all concerned about faulty voting machines. It took a while for news to start appearing but in the meantime there were always exit polls. CNN constantly touted an exit poll showing that voters were most concerned about corruption, followed by terrorism, the economy, and Iraq. It looked to many like the Democrats were going to win based on the outrage about Republican corruption. After the first polls were closed and official projections about winners started to be made it became apparent that the Senate race was going to be very close and the house was going to go to the Democrats. I went to bed late that night, expecting to wake up and know who had won the Senate. Alas, I was wrong. When I woke up Montana and Virgina were still undecided. All eyes were on them. Then the Democrats won in Montana, and Virginia was looking like a blue win as well. During all of this the Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, stepped down. This was a major shift for the Bush administration that had supported and said that Rumsfeld would stay to the end. Could this have come about because Bush no longer had to please his cronies Congress? I personally think so, the next two years could see a less conservative Bush, and one who is willing to compromise for the good of America. Soon after that the news broke that Allen had conceded in VA and that Webb had won, giving the Democrats control of both the House and the Senate. It was truly a spectacle to see. In one blow the Republicans were knocked on their asses and told to sit down and shut up. The American people have voted for change and they are going to get it once this Congress gets going. I never though I would see this happen, finally something the Democrats wanted they got. After 12 years of not having Congress, we got it. I think this is going to set us up nicely to take the presidency in 2008. […]
November 10th, 2006 at 10:25 am[…] If the Republicans in Texas don’t remember that corruption was a big reason the Republicans were voted out of office nationally, then let’s hope they let this ruling stand. […]
