It makes no sense, does it? Even if it were possible, there is simply no evidence that illegal aliens are flocking to the voting stations.
It’s all a cock-and-bull story meant to scare the conservative voters to work towards an end. The Republican leadership might not even want voter IDs, but it’s a good way to have a confrontation with those evil “liberals”. It’s the same tactic Republicans used against Iraq and are now using against Iran.
It ’s not logical, but repeated enough times it begins to sound like there is something to it.

Well hell if you republicans cant even tell the difference between people fighting for their country and terrorist then how can you tell the difference between George Washington and a terrorist? And if you cant make that distinction then how the hell are you EVER going to convince the arabs to change their ways? I think I know know this answer. It came to me after the start of my second year in the public education system.
High school is this:
Teacher speaks, students memorize for multiple guess test, students take and pass test, then discard information because no one has taught them the relevancy or real world application of it (because most teachers do not know).
I’ve been polling my students, and some other students who I just know through my students, and they all have agreed with me that that is a very valid description of the system. Which also fits with the 30-40% drop-out rates in my state.
We (as a system) are not teaching them to think (I give essay tests, by the way. Thinking is manditory this way, and although they fought me initially, they now seem to be understanding that knowledge is definitely power).
So, I guess we can’t be surprised when they can’t deduce something as logical as your initial comment… Not only have we not taught them how, but we’ve taught them that it’s just easier not to think at all. Sad.
November 7th, 2006 at 8:44 pmZooey, thats precious.

Didn’t Exit polls get everyone in hot water in 2004?
Comment by Tundra — November 7, 2006 @ 9:42 pm
Hot water? No. In the 230 years that we’ve been a country, exit polls have never been wrong by more than a fraction of a percent. In 2004, they were suddenly wrong by nearly 3%. This is a huge reg flag that John Kerry should have fought.
When the exit polls in the Ukraine were 5% off of the final vote, and an investigation was ordered – voter fraud was proven. Interesting, if you’re a logical person…
2000 was Gore’s win. That had nothing to do with exit polls. He won both the populatr vote, and in independent recounts, Florida. It was handed to Bush by the SCOTUS.
The scary part is that if you can’t recall recent history correctly, however do you learn general world history – so that you can learn from it?
So who did you vote for?

Because, actually, I don’t think they should declare winners until the votes are all in… Doesn’t make for exciting t.v., but I worry that it influences the weat coast.

Local news just reported that with 70% of the vote counted here in TN, about 81% voted for the amendment. The ignorance of these people is remarkable.
One reason someone recently gave in a newspaper article for supporting the ban was that if the world was full of homosexuals, procreation would not be possible and the human race would disappear. I’m still trying to figure out where same-sex marriage comes into play here…
I think what it boils down to is this: we are passing bans simply to prevent people from being offended. After all, same-sex marriage doesn’t harm heterosexuals physically or financially.

I may be a libertarian, but the republicans are closer to my views then the dems, so I want the repubicans to win if it’s a race where the libertarians have no chance.
And the way I see it, the senate, and the senators get more air play than the house people, so in this current situation I’d rather have the senate be the dem’s beacuse their not going to be able to do anything real in the next 2 years, so the general popuace would become more annoyed by the dems, and vote against them in the house and the senate, but if the repubs stay in control of the senate, reverse that, and the general populace will vote against them in the house regardless of who controls the house.

There is no such thing. Until you are born, you are a blastocyst, embryo, or fetus. You aren’t a child until you’ve survived being an infant (some parts of the world infants don’t get names until they’ve resisted dying to disease) for two years.
Why you want to give preferential treatment to a clump of cells (when most women abort) over a consious life just goes to show that your side deserved to have its power taken away and given to more reasonable adults.

squegeeboo-What many(not all) on your side of this issue do not understand, I hate the thought of any abortion. I just don’t think the Government should have any right to interfear with a womens “choice”. A person can hate the thought of a abortion but, still fight for a womens right to make that terriable decision. Peace friend.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:00 amWhy you want to give preferential treatment to a clump of cells
My mistake, I didn’t realize the right to life counted as ‘preferential treatment’ I assumed it was something any living, non-harmful organism had the right too.

I think the “Harold…call me!” ad played a part. The RNC knew what they were doing with that. And to hell with Ken Mehlman and his “explanation.” As indicated at the end of the ad, the RNC was responsible for the content of the ad.
And Corker didn’t do enough to have it pulled. He could have threatened to drop out of the race unless it was immediately pulled. But it was more important for him to get elected. I remind folks that in the Repub primary in August, days before the election his 2 competitors were calling newspapers across the state who endorsed Corker and were asking them to pull their endorsements due to the lies he was telling.
Well, Bush is now back to being checked and balanced, as I believe Nancy Pelosi is going to teach that spoiled brat some manners. He’s probably wet himself out of fear. I saw her on 60 Minutes. She’s not going to tolerate his business as usual nonsense. Yay!

Joe, I do understand your view point, unfortunatly, many people on myside (including myself) can’t agree with it, beacuse we view the fetus as a living human being, and a womens ‘choice’ as murdering that human being. That said, it basically means that with issues like abortion, due to the disconnect on how different people view it, there is no ‘compromise’ on when it should be legal or not(murder vs. womans choice), and will always be a divisive issue.

November 8th, 2006 at 12:25 amDemocrats have never been PRO abortion. They’ve been pro-choice while also wanting to do the best they can to prevent woman from becoming pregnant who don’t want to.
- That is why Democrats want to have better sex education in school. Areas in which they teach abstinence only usually have higher pregnancy rates.
- That is why Democrats want to improve living condition for the poor. Because many times, their living conditions are the reason for pregnancies. Sometimes it is because they don’t know any better, sometimes it’s because they have nothing else to do but have sex, etc.
- Democrats are not advocating death. It’s why they want to bring the troops home instead of dying in an un-winnable war in a country that never attacked us.

Contrast that logical position, with the utter illogical stance of the moralising religious right:
First, give young people no access to accurate sexual education. Whatever information provided will be geared at making people afraid of sex (that is, it will be full of half-truths, and distorted data).
Then, when the women who had no way to make an informed opinion become pregnant, stigmatise them and deny them alternatives.
Finally, when all those pregnancies come due, deny those mothers and their children proper medical care by making medical expenses unaffordable (Don’t forget to mention “personal responsibility” very often).
Ah, isn’t it grand being self-righteous?

November 8th, 2006 at 1:34 amTurtle, if your implying that Dems are going to step in and start all manner of hearings and impeachment procedures that is NOT what I want to hear. There are more important things to be done than eviscerating the opposition.
I hate the Iraq situation. I am hopeful that Dems can force a Rumsfeld resignation and a change in the way the war is being fought. I think that an immediate pullout would be devastating to both the U.S. and Iraq. From what I hear and understand, so does a majority of the Dem leadership. There are exceptions but I hope cooler heads prevail.
Basically I want to see action that actually moves this country forward and in a positive direction. More infighting will do nothing but continue to drag us down. I’m tired of lip service and being told what I want to hear only to see the wheels of progress running backwards.

Who has rights under the Constitution of the United States?
who has claimed foreign citizens residing in their home countries should be protected by US law.
I may read these statements wrong but go ahead and refute them:
We can give those who made the “mistake†of not being born here basic rights, and a decent trial.
What are basic rights? Who’s designation of rights do they fall under?, The Democratic party of the United States of America?
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.â€

Friends, this battle may be won, but there’s more work to do to rectify the wrongs done to the Constitution, to America’s standing in the world as a leader in human rights, to the survivors in Afghanistan and Iraq, and to our own service women and men and their families.
With the dawn of a new day comes a renewed committment to bring light to the darkness and to reveal the crimes of the current Administration. In the days to come, may our resolve be for justice, not revenge and truth over arrogance.
The ideal of Camelot was the use of Might for Right. May the power gained by the Democrats be used for the betterment of humankind.

It makes it too easy to declare martial law, seize power of the state guard, even to “subdue” that State, over the consent of the Governor, on the President’s whim. It is too dangerous of a pair of bills. Or Laws now, rather.

November 8th, 2006 at 2:00 amMy What? Feel free to dig through the past 3 years and find a post where I ever said that I liked Bush or either of the two popular political parties. I realize you are most likely drawing at straws again.
Waaaaaaaay too soon to make that judgment—Exley
Ok no bet then. But 2 years from now, I will remind you of my prediction.
No psychic powers, I just see patterns in events and have a fair understanding of history. I work in the tech field, with engineering to find and try to find and fix software and hardware “bugs”. Machine code is not a problem for me to do on the fly.
This story on the Corruption is not over yet by a longshot, and the Democrats have supeana power now. Alot of people may go down yet. And the FBI is hot on some trails as well, right now.
The Republicrooks are toast, and from the polls tonight, people are fed up with the corruption.
November 8th, 2006 at 2:01 amAnd Senator Talent has officially conceded the Missouri seat. Time of loss 0102, November 8, 2006.
November 8th, 2006 at 2:02 am261 – Tundra, why were you not demanding answers to those questions from Republicans while they enjoyed One Party Rule?

Interesting, I am a Systems Engineer (based on your job description “as well”), I also enjoy paterns and seem to easily recognize them. When it comes to the projects, “For every hand that touches it, For every entity that is involved in it’s creation, For each script written to protect for errors, for every step thrown in simply for simplicity, For every variable that is checked against idioicy. There is a significant decrease in performance. Usually to a point that it is unusable.
Point? Government has too many variables and checks.
November 8th, 2006 at 2:14 amWere you waiting for the Neo-Cons to accomplish a solution to any of those things?

Funny, I didn’t see either of you on the Republican Blogs while I was questioning them!
November 8th, 2006 at 2:17 amWell, Tundra, I have limits, and Briseadh na Faire probably has standards.
You’re just in the mood for arguing tonight, aren’t you?
Right now, I’m in the mood for sleeping. I may wake up in the morning being represented in the House by Bill Sali, and I really don’t deserve that.
Goodnight.

Besides I Was!
I was also asking for solutions here. My most common solution was “Bush and the CONservatives are at fault”. Cheney would rather shoot homeless in the face with buckshot than solve the problem etc. Rove hates gay people and some homeless are Gay so he hates them.
While I don’t slam the Democrats on the Republican Sites, I also won’t slam (Give the answers) that they Provided to those very questions.

Point? no just making a prediction to Exley. I offered a bet, he didn’t take, so just stating 2 years from now a Republican will not win the White House. If I am wrong, you can call me on it. =)

November 8th, 2006 at 2:31 amI am keeping Dems on a “short leash†so to speak. I’m giving them a chance to show their merits. Hopefully I’m not disapointed.

I’d like to see all progressives join you in keeping the Democrats honest, on-budget, and focused on helping the country. I’d also like to see you stay on our political side of the aisle.
