I’ll tell you exactly why. Now the Democratic party has effectively been set-up as the scapegoat for the eventual pullout from Iraq and an economy that is about to tank!
Allen should recall his Republican colleagues urging Al Gore to do the right thing by graciously conceding victory to George W. Bush. Allen likewise should do the right thing by conceding that Webb has won the senate race in Virginia. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
This is freaking amazing. Yesterday I was telling my husband how worried I was because most American people just do not pay attention to what is going on in the world. I am happy to admit how wrong I was. The corruption and deceit of the republican party was exposed to the masses and they finally saw it for what it was.
this is great but isn’t it really 49D-49R-2I, or something?
can Lieberman e.g. really be trusted to vote Dem? i don’t know much about this i must be missing something obvious.
INVESTIGATE, INVESTAGATE, INVESTAGATE. Heard Fox News Bill O tell Charles Schumer ” I hope you guys don’t spen the next two years with these silly little investigations” Ah YES WE DO… Hell yes we the people do want answers jackass Bill O… your party sure would.

The American public, as they showed in their votes yesterday, is not buying this kind of crap anymore. They know who the real crooks are.
Bernie Sanders is further to the left than Kennedy. He is definetly with the Dems. Lieberman said he would caucus with the Dems, but who knows. Tomorrow he will probably change parties. What’s is a name?
lieberman’s independent, but a) has said publicly he would caucus with dems, and b) he can no longer be a shill for a patently unpopular position for which the rethugs just got resoundingly spanked.
He goes where the wind blows; first with the rethugs when it looked like they had popular momentum, now with the dems since the weather has changed.
Merry Christmas Everyone!! If this holds, this will go down in history as being the singular “best” day this country has had in six long years! This means that there’s hope of recovery from this horrendous debacle…hoorah! Hoorah! Merry christmas in November!!
for the eventual pullout from Iraq and an economy that is about to tank!

You would be correct if the rethugs won however, the Dems did and they will find a way out of the $hit the rethugs got us in. Please contact Jason he needs your help. He could be in his bath tub with slit wrists. “the eventual pullout fron Iraq”–So if the rethugs won we would be there forever? How many dead does it take for you to see the light? Don’t worry yourself-have another lattie.
:)) Don’t ya just love it when the mask falls away? Sort of like The Picture of Dorian Gray……What an absolute imbecile. Quote below:
DEMS SUCK!!!!!! I hope you all die!!!!!
That way the party of God(GOP) can retain thier title. DIE LIBS DIE!!!!

All it merits is ha ha ha. And…….but to be kind, I’ll throw in encouragement to Jason. Jason, educate yourself on the facts in general and on what it is to be human. There are some great self help books out there. Healing the Shame that Binds You is by Bradshaw. Also read Thomas Merton - Thoughts in Solitude. He was a Catholic monastic. The Road Less Traveled by Scott Peck is also very good. You need to grow. Seriously.
YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is amazing!!! I am so happy. I also liked Wisconsin’s election last night(my home state). We retained our amazing democratic governor Jim Doyle, and Steve Kagan won. Things our beginning to look up.
how sweet is it that the last seat decided who has control and the last one to be declared was the race involving george allen- who, like a dumfuk republican called somebody that looked middle-eastern from the opposing campaign ‘makaka’? i don’t even vote FOR democrats, but AGAINST republicans.
Yeah, Badmanmoon, you are completely right, LOL. I am so sorry, cannot do the math, I guess on no sleep. Did not even realize the error until you typed it! Stayed up too late last night waiting to hear this news.

Hope that you’re right. I’m just too cynical about it all at this point. With the ability to steal elections, apparently unused by them this time, and the GOP’s pressure for Allen to concede, when one seat will make such a big difference… I smell something fishy.
I don’t know… maybe 6 years of this cr*p has turned me paranoid! LOL!
Welcome to a new day in America! Maybe it’s because I was up half the night but I felt so blissful today, so full of hope for myself and my fellow Americans.
The posters at the conservative blogs are ready to commit mass suicide. I had no idea there were that many crazies with access to a computer.
JPV….you’re onto something big I suspect. They knew everyone was watching for the obvious tampering this time; what they fail to realize is that now most of the country knows about their dirty vote tampering tricks in 2004 and will be even more vigilant and “ready” for them in ‘08. There’s only one way this country can do from this position and that is “UP, Up, and Further UP”. This is a great day in the history of this democracy, fellow patriots. Celebrate now and get ready for some tough work in the trenches ahead.
JASON-You chicken $hit. Come on out and give us(low lifes) a lecture on why we lost this election. Was it because we weren’t perverts? Corrupt? Greedy? Cowards afraid to defend our Country? Didn’t use Meth? Didn’t lie-cheat-or steal? Really loved our Country? Whatever-Jason ,I wish you the worst life can bring you. Oh, one more thing, do you happen to know the name of the new Speaker of the House??
The entire country now has something which has been dashed over the previous years and that something is “hope”. Hope is huge and carries people through almost impossible conditions and challenges. I’ve noticed a decided “lift” in everyone whose path I crossed today….as though it’s a totally “new world”….”new country”…..”new path”….one filled with great hope and no longer filled with that oppressive cloud of doom.
ok so if Lieberman votes R and that indy guy votes D, doesn’t that make it exact 50-50 split? does Cheney come back in? :o
i can see why Rs don’t have a majority, but i’m not so confident what the Ds can definitely do with this..
I had my first listen of “talk right” radio today. I could never bring myself to listen to that crap but I had to hear the whining.
It really isnn’t all about the winning back of our constitutional rights, reining in this administrations spending and handouts, and holding them to account for all the evil they have imposed upon the world. It is also about the gloating!!!!
This winning thing is great. I hope we progressives can become used to it!!
Hey gang — this is great news. Having spent the day today as a volunteer lawyer overseeing the canvassing at a couple of local precincts, I’m happy to report that most of my fellow Virginians who I spent the day with (yes, even the glum repugs) want this to end quickly and believe that Webb is the winner.
It’s a new day in America, it’s a new day in Virginia. We started turing our Commonwealth blue in 2000, and the wave continues to sweep west and south from my home in NoVa…
Next up: carrying Virginia for president-elect Obama in 2008…
GEEZ, it’s Badmoodman, sorry again… see, I kid you not, I need some SERIOUS sleep. My apologies. I am not normally this dippy, I swear!
JPV, wasn’t a “big deal” being made of the economy tanking ASAP on this news, by the Repubs, the press? And then what happened today?
Why does that NOT Have to do with the economy tanking? It is a good sign…
Dems have to take the step towards fiscal responsibilty and the economy… and I believe they will. They really have no choice, in order to prevent economic meltdown. We do not now have to wait two more years for that to happen, we now have to wait for January, and for the Dems to start working on the economy. And no I am not naive,e but I have to have some faith!
You would be correct if the rethugs won however, the Dems did and they will find a way out of the $hit the rethugs got us in. Please contact Jason he needs your help. I think Macaca, Foley, and Jason are in a steam bath right now trying to figure out what the $hit happened.(not that there is anything wrong with that). I keep looking for a troll to help me find out the name of the new Speaker of the House. Where are they when you need them?
Phew….. that was a turbulent ride. Let’s be a SUPER POWER again.

All of you. All of us. It is our responsibility (except NUTCASE Jason+M+Hendler ) to hold their feet to the fire. We gave it to them, now they MUST deliver. No crap. No politics. No pussy footing. Let’s get the job done. Go Nancy. Go Dick D. Go Russ F., Go USA. We have just taken a step toward regaining our great republic.
See Jason, you didn’t read your texts, the Star, wormwood, per genesis, will hit the earth amd cause the world to go dark and cold. The water will be poisoned and a nuclear winter ensues.
Hell is not hot, no sir, you will be left behind in the freezing cold battling those that have gone insane.
I actually feel safe and comfortable in my country again. But, now we have to make sure things really do get better. Us Dems need to make sure that over the next 2 years we really put forth some productive policy that will make a difference in the lives of the working and middle class. And we need to make sure that we get HABEAS CORPUS back!
On a more serious side. I suspect the luncheon between Madame elect Pelosi and the President will be along this vein.
Pelosi- Thank you for the lunch Mr. President now for the formalities. You will sign off on every single bill we present. You will not challenge one. You sir are in lame duck status and therefore it is to your advantage to make progress for the American people.
Bush - Now why would I do that. I held the Republican led Congress in contempt and disdain. What makes you think i give a rats ass what you want to accomplish for the American people. I AM THE PRESIDENT.
Pelosi- As I suspected. If you make such a mistake you shall be prepared to spend every day over the next two years under oath and on the witness stand. We will subpeona everyone in the WH down to Barney and make your life such a miserable hell your will be crying for your mothers tit again. THIS I GUARANTEE AND YOU WILL LOSE.
Bush - HOW DARE YOU TAKE THAT TONE WITH ME. I AM THE PRESIDENT. I DO NOT ANSWER TO CONGRESS. This meeting is over.
Pelosi- Thank you again for lunch Mr. President, oh before I leave here is your first subpeona.
My conclusion is it feels great to have a checks and balance restored only if it in fact occurs. Mark my words and read the blog of Glenn Reynolds. There is a constitutional crisis and it is likely to get UGLY. It has to go down to stop this disctator and criminal administration. Say a prayer for Pelosi and Reid.
whomever is posting as Hendler is sounding more like Santos.
If it is the real Hendler, may he be treated with the same lovingkindness as his ‘Lord’ Reagan treated the mentally ill in California, releasing them, untreated, to live the rest of their natural lives as homeless individuals on the streets.
Finally!! — a couple of Supreme Court Justices can stop holding their breath and retire — safely — knowing any conservative picked by Bush now will not win approval in the Senate.
A young Virginian friend of mine turned 18 this year and gleefully registered. He also worked as a volunteer on Webb’s campaign.
My friend is a freshman at UVA. S.R Sidarth is a senior there.
Apparently it is not easy getting into Dr Sabato’s class - a hopeful student must first submit an essay. Sidarth has been accepted. His essay was entitled “I am Macaca.”
It’s the hypocricy Zooey. This person has been leading the persecution the GOP has had against the gays.
Who is next?
Maybe next is anyone who is hispanic, black, a war protestor, a newspaper editor.
Where would the freeks have stopped if theyhad been returned to congress another term?
However, when a group of people makes an issue out of everyone else’s sexual orientation, then I would say it is an honest citizen’s duty to point out their hypocrisy.
Would you have let Haggard off the hook? I wouldn’t. Bring out the torches. Burn the hypocrites.
#108 Well Zoo, is it the homosexuality or the betrayal of homosexuality that Mehlman is guilty of? He is after all part of setting the policy of the GOP anti-gay wedge issues. Homosexual or not, he is a hypocrite and those who believe in God know what He/She does to hypocrites - those who don’t, well there’s Bill Maher.
Zooey, I totally get what you are saying… and I agree to a point.
But I have a serious problem with people who are in the closet and gay, working like all get out to legislate against homosexuality, in trying to dictate and control the lives of others. That to me is highly hypocritical. How can they stand staunchly against homosexuality, for example the Republican party, and legislate and vote against it, yet actually be a person who themselves is gay? Can someone hate themselves sooo much they would do that - not only to themselves, but to countless others, people they have never met, people who have done to them and theirs, people who have done nothing to deserve that type of “retaliation” against homosexuality? It is sickening, and cruel of them to do that to others. Yet we all are suppoosed to respect them and their lifestyles??? I dunno…
They are the worst hypcrites ever, except them ones who do all of this in the name of religion, Christianity, like Haggard.
If he wants to stay in the closet, let him stay there. It’s none of our business.
Damn, I’m old…
Comment by Zooey — November 8, 2006 @ 11:28 pm
No your not. Just decent, that is what we are supposed to be about. Everyone needs to get off the gay thing. We have a moron for president and an evil scum for VP. Nearly three thousand Americans have died in Bushco co’s war and several hundred thousand Iraqis. Now that needs to be outted. I feel sorry for Foley and his family. We need a lot more love in this country.
Sorry if that posted twice… I did corrections, and re-submit it…
I use Opera for a browser and it is not user friendly for this site at all since they switched things up a bit. it is making me bokers, I can never tell if the site takes the comment, or rejects it.
Your IP presents a problem for posting here? How bizarre. What causes that to occur - what the site will allow or not allow? Is it your choice of IP, or what?
#128 - economy was teetering on the edge election notwithstanding. The housing bubble is popping, the dollar will resume the slide, interest rates come up to compensate and the debt burden of the average American may prove the tipping point to at least a nasty recession.
Zooey, as JoeFriday said, you are decent… to me that is a very important quailty. At times, I feel as though I have both lost and gained some aspect of that in myself during this President’s reign.
I personally would never “out” someone, espcially against their wishes.
My niece is bisexual. It does not matter to me and never will. I love her, no matter what. She is like my child - she swears I am her mother and that my sister CAN’T be her mother. But she will not tell her parents, who are born again, as they are totally against anything having to do with homosexuality, bisexuality… you get the picture.
I do not intend to ever tell them, that is her perogative And she feels she will be disowned by them if she ever does tell them. It is rather sad, and it angers me that she cannot be herself within our family unit. She matters more to me than my sister knowing everything about my niece, and judging her for it. And so it goes…
just because they don’t know how to act, that I should forget how.
Comment by Zooey — November 9, 2006 @ 12:00 am
I tihnk this is where you are looking at things the wrong way: Unmasking hypocrites is the way to act.
These hypocrites want to be able to tell you, and me how to live our lives. They want to get in our bedrooms and tell us what to do and how, when and with whom -none of which is any of their bloody business.
These hypocrites are hurting people. People who are simply living their lives and not doing anything to anyone.
Shining the light on the hypocrites is the right thing to do.
JPV, I do understand what you mean and where the economy is going. It is of great concern to me. I am TRYING hard to have the belief that we can overcome some of this with the coming changes to our government. Maybe I misunderstood the context and time frame of your earleir comment. If so, I apolgize.
Terry, my only other alternative here is Firefox, and I have not tried this site with it. There is a delay with Opera; it acts as though it takes the comment, and attempts to reload but never actually does. I have never experienced a site doing this before.
Boy was he all over the map. “Democrats care about security of America as much as I do.” When confronted with his recent statements that the terrorists would welcome a Democrat win at every whistle stop, his answer was incomprendable. Really reeling.
He’ll be lucky to get out of the office with any sanity. He can’t even tell whether or not he believes his fabrications. Really quite pitiful to watch.
He tried to be somewhat gracious, but his spine is broken, is bitter, feels betrayed, and pouty.
He was even foolish enough to mention social security reform as something the Democratic Congress and he could work on together the next two years. OK maybe some entitlement program can be touched, but Social security? That’s the most solvent entitlement program that ever existed…..and he already lost with his OWN party on this one.
He is completely lost and may have to step aside and let Poppy be the proxy Pres. Maybe that’s really what Baker is doing in there. Pitiful.
#136, Kat, I know its TP locking me out because I use the same machine, but I move about from access point to access point. NO comments go through at my main location. TP fessed up twice and restored me, this time… well stuff them.
Aww Zooey thanks… I am really a big softie, but I can carry a BIG stick, if you know what I mean. Honestly, I cried all night last night, tears pouring down my face in astonishment over the election results. Tears of relief. I am so proud of America for taking a stand - finally. Oh, and I live in PA, if that explains a little bit of where I am coming from, especially the tears - we are finally rid of RIcky.
“Ricky was raptured with Darryl, I saw it all on the tv last night”
LMAO, his concession speech was a howl, more of the same, and he has not learned a thing. Pathetic.
Wayne, my niece is an Indie Film maker, currently making her first film, lesbians , vampires, etc… it is quite a howl actually, comic/horror. So, no she is not a hypocrte, of whcih I am grateful. I said in an earlier post, I hate liars and hypocrites. And she is truthful on things like her websites. But my sister never goes there. Frankly, I think her Mom does not want to see truth…
Zooey - you have a valid point. What someone does in the privacy of their own home between consenting adults really should be none of our business.
In many ways, it is a sad statement of our society that someone’s particular orientation needs to be hidden or risks being “outed” as something unacceptable.
In the case at hand, the very person espousing the unacceptability of a particular orientation may be “outed” as having that same orientation. As such, it is a perfect example of the Universal Law of Karma. It has been expressed as “those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.” If Mehlman is gay, and has been attacking gays and espousing an anti-gay agenda, then it is only natural that his orientation would become public knowledge at some point.
A Teacher once put it thus, “whenever you point a finger at someone, you have three fingers pointing back at yourself.” This maxim is quite applicable in the political arena. As we look around at those who do the most accusing, we notice they are guilty of exactly that which they accuse others.
So, for the average person, living his or her lifestyle, to be “outed” against their will is improper and serves no good. However, when someone puts forth an anti-homosexual stance, s/he has put their own orientation at issue, in the Karmic sense.
And, as I have said earlier, Karma’s a b!tch, and she’s always lookin’ for payback!
Note, however, Karma is impartial, and returns Good for Good as well.
142 - Terry: if you’re at an office going through a server there, it may be the office server doing the filtering. Just a thought.
Where I work, I can’t post using Explorer, but when I used the Safari browser I could. Different filters on the main server. I’ve had to complain a few times. Teaching Social Studies, I’m obliged to keep up on current events. MichaleMoore.com was filtered and blocked as an “activist” site. But SwiftBoatVeteransforTruth…no problem…go figure.

Yes, absolutely
Some say that what you send out to the world comes back to you 10 fold. Whether it is good or bad is your choice.
I am also a believer in “Give them enough rope and they hang themselves”
The Republicans really hung themselves. Great Karma example there.
Hehe
Well Democrats control the Senate as long as traitor Joe Lieberman does not join the Republicans. He kinda holds a sword over the Dems at the moment, but old Joe gets used by Bush a lot. Joe could side with the GOP at any time, so Harry Reid should never trust LIEberman > lol.
“We are not deceived by their pretenses to piety. We have seen their kind before….By sacrificing human life to serve their radical visions — by abandoning every value except the will to power — they follow in the path of fascism, and Nazism, and totalitarianism. And they will follow that path all the way, to where it ends: in history’s unmarked grave of discarded lies.”

Winning one battle hardly means “we” won. We have a long way to go and many Congressional investigations into the Republican Party of Corruption need to occur. The first step for the Legislature should be to remove all of these broken, privatized voting machines. We had to come out in overwhelming numbers just for our votes to count and I’m quite sure there are several Dems that still got cheated out of winning their elections. And oh btw, us real Democrats know Lieberman is as much a Democrat as Bush the Cheerleader, Jeff Gannon, Foley, and Reverend Ted are “straight.” Republicans in Conn elected Lieberman, not Dems.
Democrat Rising, I agree, but I go one step further. It is painfuly clear to me leberman and chertoff are in the same boat, they both need to go to Israel and stay there. Both may be republican’s but more than that their allegance is with Israel and not in the intrest of the american people…..Blessings

Well…
#1 Someone needs to remind Lieberman that most of us voted to make him vice president before this Iraq thing he got himself so entangled in.
#2 The democrats now have enough power to give Lieberman just about anything he wants to make his heart warm.
ggibson, I don’t trust him and believe if allowed to he will betray us again and again…Along with the arrogance and betrail would bet his running money and most votes came from the reich wingers….The dem’s may hope to use his vote’s but they had better keep in mind joe is for joe and Israel and like in the past will flip at will…..Blessings
I was most disappointed to hear Mr. Dean last night on the John Stewart Show say flat out that they will not impeach the President. Well, if violating the 4th, 5th and 6th Amendments by holding a U.S. Citizen for 3 years without charges; if violating the 4th Amendment by conducting warrantless wiretaps; if violating treaties by conducting renditions and holding foreign citizens in secret prisons; if interrogating suspects using “coersive techniques;” if all those things and more don’t amount to “high crimes and misdemeanors” then we are still left with a dictator, and a two-party system beholden not to the people, but to the monied interests which fuel their political machine.
Sharon, ggibson, there’s more to the equation than just Joe. 9 Republicans must be willing to cross party lines to prevent a fillibuster, and 16 must cross party lines to override a Presidential Veto.
There may have allready been some back-room deals cut to get those numbers. That would explain why Dean said the Democrats won’t impeach Bush/Cheney.
I’m not sure about Lieberman - which is, in itself, cause for caution. However, I think on many issues he is certainly more likely to side with progressive/Democratic values than the alternative tie-breaker if needed, Cheney.
166 - the question is, how much legislation will the lame-duck Republican Congress try to push through, and how much of it will the Democrats refuse to fillibuster?

Gee, BnF
I was kinda hoping the Dem’s would realize they finally grew a pair and wouldn’t let the Repub’s pull anything off.
Now I’m nervous all over again.
:)
Good Morning BnF, I have heard Dean and Palosi both say that and yet in one interview I did hear Palosi say they were going to have over sight and other types of hearing’s..Perhap’s we will need to apply pressure from all of us to accomplish what need’s to be done….Mail in’s, email’s and huge amount’s of phone call’s would show them we mean business…..
I am pleased the house and senate has turned but ever watchful regarding what come’s next…..Not long ago I posted my displeasure with the dem’s silence..I do believe they have not grasped what realy happened in this voter turn out.Not only did libral’s vote for them but independent’s chose in their mind’s the oposit of what we had…Kind of like saying anyone but republican……
Palosi, Dean and all had better get busy, real quick and turn thing’s around or they will be in trouble for 2008..Besides the investigation’s for impeachment I want to see those bill’s overturned and dubi out of our port’s..There is also the border security and ton’s of other thing’s that have to be taken care of just as soon as we can stop this war monging……Blessings
Woo-hoo! The Senate will now consist of 49 Democrats, 49 Republicans, 1 Socialist, and 1 Connecticut-for-Liebermaniac.
I personally don’t buy this crap the conservatives are saying about how “the American people don’t have the stomach for another impeachment.” This is another b/s lie. They won’t stomach another “pointless impeachment”, like the one on Clinton went through. Bush’s crimes are far worse.
But if they won’t go that far, then they should at least begin exposing the corrupt practices of the administration and its no-bid, cost-plus contract awardees. Show the American people how corrupt the entire Republican party is. Impeachment won’t be necessary.
While I certainly understand the concern about Lieberman, I’m not too worried. Joe ‘I’m a democrat running as an independent funded by the republicans’ Lieberman has made it pretty clear that he’s looking out for one person and one person only, himself. As long as the wind blows in a democratic direction, Joe will follow.
Sharon. As an American, I hope that liberals won’t push for impeachment. But as a Republican, I couldn’t think of a better gift from Democrats.
You can argue that the impeachment of Clinton was much different, but it did not accomplish anything for the Republican party. What is undeniable is that impeachment is focus on the past and not focus on addressing present problems. The way I hear it, liberals want to address economic disparity, healthcare issues, fixing Iraq, addressing global warming, immigration issues, national security, etc. If democrats pursue impeachment, it will be a decision to defer action on those other issues. I’m not sure it is going to play as well as liberals think.
Also, you can argue that the reason we haven’t had a terror attack in 5 years is mainly happenstance. You could also reason that a domestic terror attack is possible in the next 2 years (not because Democrats control congress, but due to happenstance). I wonder if liberals have given any thought to this scenerio. During a drawn out impeachment with exhausting media coverage; with Democrats accusing Bush of overreaching; another domestic terror attack occurs. I am concerned that while Democrats are accusing the administration of overreach and fear mongering, middle America will be wondering if we didn’t go far enough. Just a thought.
#171 - I’m sure this will shock you, Paul, but I agree that Democrats should not push immediately for impeachment proceedings.
First off, Democrats should answer any claim of “You’re just wanting to play pay-back by trying to impeach Pres. Bush!” with “We Democrats are no more eagre to play pay-back by pushing impeachment of Pres. Bush than Republicans were playing pay-back for Pres. Nixon’s resignation by impeaching Pres. Clinton!”
Second, we’ve gained a great deal of political capital (smile!) by taking majority and we Democrats should concentrate on passing centrist legislation: severing the special-access lobbyists have, rolling back the excessive spending, cutting off the Federal Government from raiding SS surplus while we still have it, getting the cost of the war included in all budget projections and not “emergency spending bills”, giving the ethics committees some teeth in their investigations and making sure THAT is not used for political pay-back like it was in the 90’s, pushing for real over-site on no-bid contracts and smacking down the war profiteers, returning our civil liberties before they go the way of fiscal responsibility.
If the Democrats can make a difference and not get mired in power like the Republicans did, and the Democrats did before 1994, then we’ve got a real chance to re-take the White House in 2008!
Personally, political pay-back is not only childish, it’s beyond counter-productive.
Sorry folk’s while I agree on many thing’s I do not think this madman and his crew should walk…..Causing all the loss of life, close to 700,000 now, creating war’s that were against a country not a threat, backing Israel, ignoring the Katrina area for 4 day’s on and on is huge and the world will not, nor do I, think well of us if we allow these attrocaties and the dismanteling of our country to go un checked…Investigations need to be done and puneshment should go out…..Not a vendetta, they broke the law’s of the land and the world…When you comitt murder it is murder, when you comitt treason against you’re country you should be tried..To do less open’s the door for all criminal’s now and in the future to walk…..Blessings
I said “Democrats should not push immediately for impeachment proceedings.”
To do so would only sour the American public on the Democrats before they’re even out of the gate.
Personally, Pres. Bush’s actions in lying about the reasons for war in Iraq go beyond “high crimes” for which he should be held accountable. (You know, that word that Republicans forgot the minute they took majority in 1994?)
The Dems should push for an independant prosecutor to investigate the lies and crimes of the Bush Administration and then put that on the back-burner for the next 18 months. After we get our financial house back in order, restore civil liberties guaranteed by the Constitution, cut-off the special access of and by lobbyists, and clean out the lack-of-ethics behavior, THEN look into impeachment.
To do so immediately would make us look like spoiled children. You know, like the Republicans looked like when comparing oral sex to a “high crime”.
It could be that there will be investigations in addition to pursuing a progressive agenda.
Let the investigations go where the will. Perhaps enough evidence and testimony about wrongdoing will be revealed that it will be impossible to refuse to impeach.
D.S.& BnF, Nothing will be started untill January by the dem’s right.? A lot more crap can be done by bush between now and then….Working on all the progressive issues and starting up a comittee to investigate this administration can all be done at the same time….Turning this country around is a huge job, I believe the dem’s are up to it and if they are smart they will know the public has lost all patience with the entire administration and they expect swift effecient action on all front’s starting with the war…Bet bush will push his guy’s nomination through as quick as a wink….I don’t think he is qualafied, pencil pushers know nothing about real war and as far as I know he has not served….Some one in or past service person would be better……Blessings, a good start…Peace, demand it
McCain jokes about suicide if Democrats win Senate
Wed Oct 18, 2006 2:36pm ET
According to his master it’s okay to lie to the public so as to not effect the election…but then again, maybe this promise is why the voting went the way it did….4:15 ET is the Webb press conference. Think McCain will do it on Leno or Letterman?
#172. Democrat Soldier. I hate to impune you here, but I agree with almost every word of your post. Exceptionally rational for TP. I don’t think it will happen, but if Democrats could pursue a similar strategy, they would probably retake the White House and add to their lead in the congress. Good Luck getting anybody here on board.
Heh. Holy shit.
November 8th, 2006 at 8:44 pmChristmas in November!
November 8th, 2006 at 8:47 pmThe HAPPIEST, BEST day in America, for easily 6 years!!!!!!

November 8th, 2006 at 8:50 pmGee, I wonder why the GOP is forcing Allen’s hand in conceding…
http://thinkprogress.org/ 2006/ 11/ 08/ sen-george-allen-r-va-urged-to-concede-race/
I’ll tell you exactly why. Now the Democratic party has effectively been set-up as the scapegoat for the eventual pullout from Iraq and an economy that is about to tank!
Pat yourselves on the back…
November 8th, 2006 at 8:51 pmIt’s like Christmas came early! How’s that Rove math looking now?
November 8th, 2006 at 8:51 pmAmerica’s Least Wanted
Allen should recall his Republican colleagues urging Al Gore to do the right thing by graciously conceding victory to George W. Bush. Allen likewise should do the right thing by conceding that Webb has won the senate race in Virginia. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
November 8th, 2006 at 8:52 pmNBC has also called it for Webb … Olberman just announced
November 8th, 2006 at 8:52 pmThis is freaking amazing. Yesterday I was telling my husband how worried I was because most American people just do not pay attention to what is going on in the world. I am happy to admit how wrong I was. The corruption and deceit of the republican party was exposed to the masses and they finally saw it for what it was.
Congratulations America!!!
November 8th, 2006 at 8:52 pmNBC has called it for Webb, too — Keith O has just announced
November 8th, 2006 at 8:53 pmExcuse me JPV, but don’t we still have a republican WH? Why would the democrats be to blame for the failures of Bush?
November 8th, 2006 at 8:54 pmAt this moment, President Bush is asking one of his Oval Office aides to bring him a new pair of shorts.
At this very same moment, somewhere in a bar deep in the heart of D.C. sits a drunk Karl Rove.
November 8th, 2006 at 9:00 pmWell, CNN has had the following for hours on their website:
99% of precincts reporting
Democratic Webb 1,172,541 50%
Republican Allen 1,165,324 49%
(Incumbent)
The difference is 7,217 votes in Webb’s favor. An 11th-hour win by Allen seems highly unlikely.
What does it take for a news outlet to call an election? How many more votes are there still to be counted?
November 8th, 2006 at 9:00 pmJPV - and just WHAT did the DOW do today, AFTER DEMS WON???

Bernie Sanders is further to the left than Kennedy. He is definetly with the Dems. Lieberman said he would caucus with the Dems, but who knows. Tomorrow he will probably change parties. What’s is a name?
November 8th, 2006 at 9:15 pmToo bad the real Jason M Hendler is too much of a pussy to show up here.
November 8th, 2006 at 9:15 pmlieberman’s independent, but a) has said publicly he would caucus with dems, and b) he can no longer be a shill for a patently unpopular position for which the rethugs just got resoundingly spanked.
He goes where the wind blows; first with the rethugs when it looked like they had popular momentum, now with the dems since the weather has changed.
November 8th, 2006 at 9:16 pmShouldn’t that be, 50(D) - 49(R) - 1(I)? After all, Lieberman is an Independent now and will vote with Republicans on Iraq issues.
November 8th, 2006 at 9:17 pmMerry Christmas Everyone!! If this holds, this will go down in history as being the singular “best” day this country has had in six long years! This means that there’s hope of recovery from this horrendous debacle…hoorah! Hoorah! Merry christmas in November!!

Seriously.

LOL!

November 8th, 2006 at 9:33 pmJPV….you’re onto something big I suspect.
November 8th, 2006 at 9:36 pmJASON-You chicken $hit.
November 8th, 2006 at 9:37 pmWhat does Mr. Macaca think about all this ruckus?
November 8th, 2006 at 9:38 pmThe entire country now has something which has been dashed over the previous years and that something is “hope”.
November 8th, 2006 at 9:38 pmok so if Lieberman votes R and that indy guy votes D, doesn’t that make it exact 50-50 split? does Cheney come back in? :o

November 8th, 2006 at 9:39 pmI had my first listen of “talk right” radio today.
November 8th, 2006 at 9:41 pmHey gang — this is great news.
Next up: carrying Virginia for president-elect Obama in 2008…
November 8th, 2006 at 9:42 pmGEEZ, it’s Badmoodman, sorry again… see, I kid you not, I need some SERIOUS sleep.

November 8th, 2006 at 10:24 pmNot surprised but Fantastic news nonetheless.

DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Arizona Sen. John McCain, a likely Republican presidential contender in 2008, joked on Wednesday…
…
somebody better be checking on him… or not…
November 8th, 2006 at 10:53 pm.
Yes, Sidarth was the young man Allen insulted.
November 8th, 2006 at 10:56 pmJason. I believe it’s time you came out of the closet.
November 8th, 2006 at 10:58 pmLooks like Jason’s mind has gone and Darryl has been raptured.
November 8th, 2006 at 10:58 pmOT- sorry - I can’t resist the gossip.
November 8th, 2006 at 11:11 pmBill Maher just outed Ken Mehlman on Larry King.
Yeah Daryll was raptured. I saw it.
November 8th, 2006 at 11:12 pmThis is a very good day for us. Let’s enjoy it.
Whoever is impersonating Jason M Hendler is completely out of line.
November 8th, 2006 at 11:12 pmTalk about a sore winner….
OMG, I was watching Larry King Live. Bill Maher was on anf he just just outed Ken Mehlman as gay.
I hope someone caught it on video.

The Dems held both chambers, collectively, for almost 40 years.
The Repubs couldn’t even hold on for more than 12.
Losers, indeed.
November 8th, 2006 at 11:27 pmI hate to be a wet blanket, ya’ll know that, but I’m uncomfortable with outing someone who doesn’t want to be “out.”
As far as I know, Mehlman hasn’t been trying to date underage boys, and hasn’t committed any crime other than being a real slime ball.
If he wants to stay in the closet, let him stay there. It’s none of our business.
Damn, I’m old…

It’s the hypocricy Zooey. This person has been leading the persecution the GOP has had against the gays.
November 8th, 2006 at 11:36 pmWho is next?
Maybe next is anyone who is hispanic, black, a war protestor, a newspaper editor.
Where would the freeks have stopped if theyhad been returned to congress another term?
Zooey,
I agree with you, for the most part.
However, when a group of people makes an issue out of everyone else’s sexual orientation, then I would say it is an honest citizen’s duty to point out their hypocrisy.
Would you have let Haggard off the hook? I wouldn’t. Bring out the torches. Burn the hypocrites.
November 8th, 2006 at 11:36 pm#108 Well Zoo, is it the homosexuality or the betrayal of homosexuality that Mehlman is guilty of? He is after all part of setting the policy of the GOP anti-gay wedge issues. Homosexual or not, he is a hypocrite and those who believe in God know what He/She does to hypocrites - those who don’t, well there’s Bill Maher.
November 8th, 2006 at 11:37 pmZooey, I totally get what you are saying… and I agree to a point.

November 9th, 2006 at 12:07 am#128 - economy was teetering on the edge election notwithstanding. The housing bubble is popping, the dollar will resume the slide, interest rates come up to compensate and the debt burden of the average American may prove the tipping point to at least a nasty recession.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:07 amZooey, as JoeFriday said, you are decent… to me that is a very important quailty.

November 9th, 2006 at 12:16 amWatched the President’s press conference today.
Pitiful.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:16 am#136, Kat, I know its TP locking me out because I use the same machine, but I move about from access point to access point. NO comments go through at my main location. TP fessed up twice and restored me, this time… well stuff them.

Oh, and I live in PA, if that explains a little bit of where I am coming from, especially the tears - we are finally rid of RIcky.

I have a nephew who is gay. If he had chosen to be in the closet to keep from being persecuted, I would never out him.
But if he was like one of the hypocrits, persecuting other gays, I am too much a believer in honesty , I would out him to stop the lie.
Gays should not be subjected to the kind of persecution that these hypocrits and criminals have put them through.

I said in an earlier post, I hate liars and hypocrites. And she is truthful on things like her websites. But my sister never goes there. Frankly, I think her Mom does not want to see truth…
November 9th, 2006 at 12:29 amZooey - you have a valid point.
Peace and Blessings.

November 9th, 2006 at 7:17 amDemocrat Rising, I agree, but I go one step further.

November 9th, 2006 at 8:30 amI was most disappointed to hear Mr.
November 9th, 2006 at 8:33 amSharon, ggibson, there’s more to the equation than just Joe. 9 Republicans must be willing to cross party lines to prevent a fillibuster, and 16 must cross party lines to override a Presidential Veto.
There may have allready been some back-room deals cut to get those numbers. That would explain why Dean said the Democrats won’t impeach Bush/Cheney.
November 9th, 2006 at 8:37 amMacaca is in the tank. And should be.
November 9th, 2006 at 8:39 amHooray for a change!
I’m not sure about Lieberman - which is, in itself, cause for caution. However, I think on many issues he is certainly more likely to side with progressive/Democratic values than the alternative tie-breaker if needed, Cheney.

November 9th, 2006 at 8:44 amHow soon can we expect social security privatization?
November 9th, 2006 at 8:46 am166 - the question is, how much legislation will the lame-duck Republican Congress try to push through, and how much of it will the Democrats refuse to fillibuster?

November 9th, 2006 at 8:57 amI was kinda hoping the Dem’s would realize they finally grew a pair and wouldn’t let the Repub’s pull anything off.
November 9th, 2006 at 8:58 amWoo-hoo!
November 9th, 2006 at 9:09 amWhile I certainly understand the concern about Lieberman, I’m not too worried. Joe ‘I’m a democrat running as an independent funded by the republicans’ Lieberman has made it pretty clear that he’s looking out for one person and one person only, himself. As long as the wind blows in a democratic direction, Joe will follow.
November 9th, 2006 at 9:15 amSharon.
November 9th, 2006 at 9:43 am#171 - I’m sure this will shock you, Paul, but I agree that Democrats should not push immediately for impeachment proceedings.

November 9th, 2006 at 11:06 amSorry folk’s while I agree on many thing’s I do not think this madman and his crew should walk…..Causing all the loss of life, close to 700,000 now, creating war’s that were against a country not a threat, backing Israel, ignoring the Katrina area for 4 day’s on and on is huge and the world will not, nor do I, think well of us if we allow these attrocaties and the dismanteling of our country to go un checked…Investigations need to be done and puneshment should go out…..Not a vendetta, they broke the law’s of the land and the world…When you comitt murder it is murder, when you comitt treason against you’re country you should be tried..To do less open’s the door for all criminal’s now and in the future to walk…..Blessings
November 9th, 2006 at 11:22 am#174 - You do have a point.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:32 amIt could be that there will be investigations in addition to pursuing a progressive agenda.
Let the investigations go where the will. Perhaps enough evidence and testimony about wrongdoing will be revealed that it will be impossible to refuse to impeach.
Time will tell. Change is in the air.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:03 pmD.S.& BnF, Nothing will be started untill January by the dem’s right.?

According to his master it’s okay to lie to the public so as to not effect the election…but then again, maybe this promise is why the voting went the way it did….4:15 ET is the Webb press conference. Think McCain will do it on Leno or Letterman?
November 9th, 2006 at 12:44 pm#172.
