The election results prove what has always been most prevalent whether exercised overtly in the voting booths or not, a majority of the population being independent centrist, which is to say most people agree on most things that directly affect their daily their lives. And whether or not they are fortunate enough to live in a free society and effect change nonviolently or live embroiled in social turmoil to such a point of hopeless despair, that they become or are compelled to employ violence. When power and corruption goes unchecked it eventually gets corrected, but never completely eliminated. Our precious freedoms to not start or stop at the labeling of one party label or from the swaying backwards or forwards from one to another. George Washington warned about the demise of democracy by sole determinations of a two party system.

Drop the “victory for conservative values” spin.

A lot of “reasonable” conservatives had problems with this war:

Schwarzkopf, Scowcroft, Bush 41, and others.

The displeasure with Rumsfeld was not that he was a conservative. It was that he was a neoconservative.

And at this point, “incompetent” is synonymous with neoconservative.

The neoconservative group shut out good advice from almost everybody. Democrats. Republicans. The Military. Iraqis. Academics.

‘Sanchez’ said “war is hard.” Well, it gets even harder – if not impossible – when you consistently shut out good advice. Hence the outcry from the retired generals and the “Army Times” for Rumsfeld to go.

If you are really a pro-military conservative (as opposed to just a neocon) you should be happy Rumsfeld is gone. Maybe now someone with a non-neocon point of view can get finally get their ideas considered with an open mind.
