“Democratic challenger Jon Tester declared victory Wednesday morning over Republican incumbent U.S. Conrad Burns. Following the resolution of a software issue in Butte, which proved there was not a large number of unaccounted for votes as was feared, Tester’s camp declared victory.”
UPDATE: AP projects Democrat John Tester the winner in the Montana Senate race.
Bye bye, you big ol piece of crap, Burns.
Burns won’t concede until end of November, like Macaca won’t either. Here in AZ, we had an upset, 12 year incumbant JD Hayworth lost, he isn’t conceding yet either. What a bunch of chodes.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:37 pmOne down. One to go.

November 8th, 2006 at 12:42 pmI wonder if someone woke up Burns to tell him this?
November 8th, 2006 at 12:42 pmsooo… where have all the trolls been today?!
November 8th, 2006 at 12:43 pm“Duh, I guess if I am an arrogant ass, people will get rid of me”
General message to all Republicans.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:45 pmWow, I cant wait for the press conferance. I predict that DUMBya will fire Rummy. he is going to lose both the house and the Senate and he must start mending that fence that he tore down, burned, and burried on his crawfor ranch. well, he paid someone to bury it. If he does not do something drastic, he will have an extremely long lame duck two years.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:46 pmAmerica is BACK!!!
Burns, we forgot to tell you about our ’secret plan’…
vote your tired old ass out of office!
Thanks, Mr. Tester, you’re a throwback, but a welcome addition.
Mr. Macaca should drag his race out until about Christmas, just becasue he’s a bully racist.
Talentless, we’ll never miss you!
Santorum, you can take down that bronzed fetus on your mantle now.
DaWhine, quit whining, it’s over.
Foley still in rehab? Naw, just hiding with Ted Haggard.
Hayworth, your a loud mouthed redneck. ‘Bye!
Blackwell, now you’ll have to start working for a living!
Hasturd, how’s it feel to go from the top to the bottom? Ask Foley!
America, let’s get back to what we do best…freedom!
November 8th, 2006 at 12:46 pmMacaca land is going to be the fight, the GOP’s golden boy will be removed by police, kicking and screaming. I don’t trust the Macaca election, I wonder if this will be thier “Diebold moment” so to speak. These guys are gonna get dirty about this, drag it out forever.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:48 pmOne stupid racist down one to go.
sooo… where have all the trolls been today?!
Comment by hil
kkkarl told them to focus their efforts on Washington Monthly.
Every thread is plastered with comments explaining how this is really not a lose for the rethugs.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:48 pm[...] UPDATE: Tester (D) declares victory in Montana. “Democratic challenger Jon Tester declared victory Wednesday morning over Republican incumbent U.S. Conrad Burns. November 8th, 2006 at 12:49 pmI think the Rethugs should tell themselves its really not a lose, then they can continue with criminal acitivity and get jailed. They also would do some strange stuff if they had to accept reality.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:51 pm#10 ForTruth…Virginia is done. Webb will be the next Senator from Virginia. His lead over Allen is too large to overcome.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:53 pmYeah good for Tester > that means Dems pick up 6 Senate seats! Burns needs to go marry Sen. Larry Craig and they both can run off to Tahiti together > bon voyage boys!
November 8th, 2006 at 12:54 pmwe did it!!!!!!!hit the road you piece of shiiiiiite
November 8th, 2006 at 12:55 pmI guess God didn’t want Santorum to be a senator any more.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:56 pmI’m obviously delighted that the swing states are breaking our way, but have to say, I’m still trying to get my head round the fact that Montana and Virginia are this years nailbiters… pretty amazing I reckon.
Ps. The Freeper sites are a f*cking picture today. Seriously, go watch some of the best performance art of the century.
November 8th, 2006 at 12:59 pmholy cr*p. what a difference a day makes. i guess we really do have the Senate aswell?
November 8th, 2006 at 12:59 pmcongrats dems. i really was worried the US might be on some sort of slide into fascism.. until yesterday.
Rove fired them all last night for doing a terrible job of brainwashing folks like you and me.
November 8th, 2006 at 1:01 pmOne more is all we need for the Democrats to officially hold majority in the Senate — and from what I gather, the results so far from Virginia are fairly promising and may rule out the possibility of a recount. Unfortunately, whether the Democrats will have an effective majority remains to be seen — every little bit counts, of course, but a majority of one is not something to get tremendously excited over in the long run. Lieberman has said that he’ll caucus with the Democrats as an independent — but I’m not gonna hold my breath! The problem with such tight margins like this is that just *one* person can easily sway the balance of a vote — especially if you factor in Democrats who more often than not seem to be “Republican-Lite”. One burning question perhaps should be — were their previous responses an artifact of being part of the minority party or will they stay consistent? In any case, any tie votes will inevitably favor the Republican stance, since Cheney would cast the deciding vote — it’s a victory, admittedly, but nevertheless something of a Pyrrhic one.
November 8th, 2006 at 1:02 pm#14 – Exley, I hope you’re right!
Glad to see you’re not eschewing participation here on TP!
November 8th, 2006 at 1:04 pmAfter the radical-right and Repugs stop whining about their loss, the right-wing blood letting will begin. Rumsfeld is merely the first. It would be grand if the “genius” of smear ‘n fear, Karl Rove, ere removed from his pedestal
November 8th, 2006 at 1:12 pmThe radical are defiant, they ain’t gonna stop bein’ real ‘Mericuns. Apart from being poor losers (as usual) they have established an expensive, structured machine that isn’t going away. Looting and screwing the country remains their goal. A battle has been won, but we have many more ahead. Yummy.
Finally the Rove machine has cracked wide open and Bush is flailing like puppet with fewer strings to hold him up on stage in front of the press. “Don and I have decided it’s time for a fresh perspective…” Yeah right. Time for the impeachment proceedings to begin.
November 8th, 2006 at 1:15 pmYou da man Tester!!!!!
November 8th, 2006 at 1:20 pmGreat turnout. It makes you wonder if the republicans stole the election in 2004. Turn about the same. Big turnout equals change not the same.
November 8th, 2006 at 1:21 pmATTENTION TROLLS: I TOLD YOU SO!
Happy Day after election day.
I knew my fellow Americans were smarter than you.
Just sitting here, basking in my 100% correct prediction of complete Democrat takeover (and I think my arm is broken from patting myself on the back soooo much.)
November 8th, 2006 at 1:35 pmYesterday morning on the Huffingtonpost blog I forecast the Democrats would have the following odds. 60% to gain 6 seats, 30% to only gain 5 seats and 10% to gain 7 seats. The 6 gains were the 6 I predicted the Democrats would pick up. I also predicted that the Democrats would pick up 29 House seats. When wins and aheads but too close to call are tallied it results in a 29 seat gain in the House.
If fact, I switched Virginia from an Allen victory to a Webb victory based on where the bad weather was expected to be.
Yes, I am patting myself on the back here but those predictions were in writing. Contributing to the last minute shift to the Democrats was the over-the-top comments on Meet The Press by Sen. Elizabeth Dole. She was a disaster for the Republican efforts. Watch for some commentators to arrive at this same conclusion over the next week or so.

November 8th, 2006 at 2:58 pm#22….Democrat Soldier, Nah, I won’t eschew participating here at TP…This is politics….We got our butts kicked last night. Now, the only thing to do is pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and shoot for 2008. Actually, I think the next two years here at TP and in the political world are going to be QUITE interesting.
