Dobson would like to counsel Haggard, doesn’t have time.

“Citing a lack of time, Focus on the Family founder James Dobson withdrew Tuesday from the team overseeing counseling for the Rev. Ted Haggard, the evangelical pastor who was fired amid allegations of gay sex and drug use. ‘Emotionally and spiritually, I wanted to be of help – but the reality is I don’t have the time to devote to such a critical responsibility,’ Dobson said.”

This may be a win for Haggard.

  2. ForTruth says:

Maybe Haggard is a hopless case?

  3. Wordsmith says:

Hopless or hopeless, I think either way he’s grounded.

  4. Riesz Fischer says:

Dobson is no doubt frightened of being tempted by Haggard into trying gay sex. Fundies are always saying that they consider the gay “lifestyle” a temptation. I think most of them are latent or closet gays.

  5. nostrafarious says:

How quickly they abandon their flocks! LOL!

I would be willing to bet Dobson has done everything Haggard has done and more, and if so he’s so right that he can’t counsel Haggard on anything but just for the wrong reason.

  6. AmyinNC says:

    Cut and run Dobson….

  7. charlietuna says:

Actually – he is just afraid that he will find himself snortin’ meth and banging haggard in the ass – those latent, repressed homosexual tendencies never really go away. He needs to avoid temptation.

  8. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

Dobson’s schedule is too filled with hate-filled attacks on hundreds of progressives so he can’t be concerned with helping only one of his own fellow neocons. Gotta have priorities, you know.

Or Haggard does not have any young sons that Dobson could suggest Haggard shower with to keep them from choosing to be homosexual.

  9. Solitaire says:

When I think of Haggard subjecting himself to all that abuse in his supposed “restoration”, I smile.
Self hate, on the part of self-righteous fools, is strangely satisfying.
I only wish I could watch them hit him over the head with the mallot of hate he made, over and over and over and over….
There is retribution, right here in this little ol lifetime. Karma RULES!

  10. DRxJ says:

a Christian doesn’t have “time” to help one in need?
    Geez, how pseudoChristian of Dobson
No wonder these false prophets give true Christian followers a bad name

  11. Fredric L. Rice says:

At least this one isn’t a known pedophile

How interesting. The god damned Chriostofascist hate mongers won’t be protecting one of their own because he’s a closet fag who was exposed.

And yet every one of these hate filled Christian homophobes are closet homosexuals — no exceptions.

It’s only when they’re caught and exposed that they run from each other.

  12. Republicans are the fear and smear party says:

Interesting that Dobson can’t make the time to do what his foundation stands for. Could he be a hypocrite?

  13. DRxJ says:

hey, it’s great to know that if I was having marital problems, the founder of Focus
    on the Family
feels compelled to walk away due to the complexity of the matter.
Focus on the Family, my a$$

  14. Tom says:

Dobson is too busy secretly working with GDumbya to help him kick his cocaine habit and get off the booze. He is also scheduling an intervention for LaLa because the 24/7 martinis and Prozac are starting to take a toll — she’s actually beginning to look and sound like Battle-Axe Lynne Cheney.

  15. Steve Thorngate says:

I sure am glad no one posting comments here is hateful and mean like those damn evangelicals! Hooray for tolerance.

Good chance Dobson’s backing out because it’s politically risky for him to be too close to this thing–because Haggard’s in general far more moderate than Dobson, and because the largely different groups they represent actually differ considerably even in their (yes, both bigoted) attitudes toward the GLBTQ community.

  16. SKdeA says:

Besides, gay is catching you know? Like AIDS, you can get it from a doorknob!

  17. nostrafarious says:

This was no suprise. Who do you think taught Haggard?

  18. Jay says:

    DRxJ,

#10) You beat me to it, that is exactly what I was thinking.
#13) I love the irony in using $$ After all, their focus is on the money, not the family or community.

“Focus on the Family, my a$$”

  19. ann says:

Why hasn’t Haggard been arrested yet? He admitted to buying meth – isn’t that a crime?

  20. Karim says:

Dobson is probably trying to distance himself from Haggard. Like rats off a sinking ship.

  21. Here's a thought... says:

Or, maybe Dobson really is too busy. How many of us could suddenly free up countless hours over the next few months or years from our current busy schedules?

  22. Solitaire says:

Yup, politically risky for the “minister” to engage in any saving of lost sheep, right? Wouldn’t want to upset the politics of the Christian movement by trying to minister to a fellow Christian. Because we all know that it’s not a religious purpose they have, but an interest in political power. This is a clear example of why religions should REALLY stay out of politics… power corrupts, always. If the evangelicals want to get right with God, they’d better get off the political playing field. It’s a slippery slope right into hell for the sect and for their leaders. “Father” Dobson? No. Who’s kiddin who? Herr Dobson is more like it.

  23. Yankeluh says:

A newspaper report said that the counseling might include “the laying on of hands”. Isn’t that one of the things that got his ass in trouble?

  24. Yikes says:

It’s all ok ’cause Daryll is praying for him.

  25. Fredric L. Rice says:

I laughed to hard, I saw Haggard’s gods!

    > A newspaper report said that the counseling
    > might
include “the laying on of hands”. Isn’t that one of the things
    > that got his ass in trouble?

Oh you bad, nasty liburual! I laughed so hard I saw Jeebus.

  26. keepinon says:

As Letterman said to O’Rielly a week or so ago, where does the time go….?

  27. NoMoreRepublicanTrash says:

Dobson doesn’t want to spend any time with Haggard, because Haggard is too old for him. He prefers young boys, gay young boys.

  28. wallaby says:

Haggard would be better off being counselled by some decent gay men to help him understand who he is and stop lying about it.

  29. Zooey says:

    wallaby,

Stop confusing the issue with facts…!

  30. Mark says:

It’s amazing to me that so many of you resort to mere conjecture at the news that Dobson doesn’t have time to do Haggard’s counselling. You don’t have any clue about his responsibilities or how much time he has to devote to such a task. It’s not yours to decide what he is able to do and yet you judge. All you can resort to is name calling and introducing totally unfounded accusations. I expect you’ll turn on me as well just for saying this even though you have no idea about my character and integrity.
