Last night on The O’Reilly Factor, host Bill O’Reilly offered his simple plan to end violence in Iraq. Watch it:
If O’Reilly’s plan isn’t enough for you, we also have a plan of Strategic Redeployment here.
Atrios has more.
Transcript:
I think the Iraqis have got to step up and at least try to fight for their democracy, instead of being this crazy country of Shiia against Sunni — I don’t ever want to hear Shiia and Sunni again.

what an ignoramus
November 9th, 2006 at 11:21 amNothing like informed commentary. “I’m not listening!”
November 9th, 2006 at 11:23 amO’Reilly says: I don’t want to hear facts that contradict my vision of the world ever, ever again.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:23 amoh… yes. so its the Iraquis that are stooopid. Right.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:24 amThatks for clearing that one up for me Bill.
Once again Bill-O demonstrates his firm grasp on the issues. Just like the rest of Fox, he’s attempting to simplify an intensely complicated issue.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:25 amAmerica’s Least Wanted
You know what Bill, I never want to hear fair and balanced again.

November 9th, 2006 at 11:25 amno no bill, this is the part where we make wishes about what to do with you.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:26 amI saw this, and was astounded by how ignorant BO clearly is.
Here’s the thing that’s important, though, for those of you actually paying attention. BO was clearly setting up the Dems for the blame when we pull out of Iraq (and we will, eventually) and when it completely goes to hell. He painted this election as a referendum on Iraq (and ignored fiscal policy, corruption, etc) for one simple reason.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:26 amThat screen capture kills me. Is he angry, is he upset, is he squeezing out a dookie right on live television? Who can say?
November 9th, 2006 at 11:27 amIt sounds like Frank Sinatra trying to mediate a Peter Lawford/what’s-her-face Kennedy marital rift.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:29 amNow that the GOP Iraq policy is dead in the water, and the Dems are gonna call some shots, O-poopstain no longer wants to have anything to do with Iraq?
What a tool.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:30 amthere’s also this:
Chuck Schumer Shows His Love For Bill O.

Bluefish,
It’s ripe for a caption contest, complete with fired up dildos.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:30 amThere should be a Nation wide discussion and exploration on what Narcissism is. We need to see how it drove this fiasco of the last 6 years. It was a group of people that gravitated to each other because they shared a similar illness. Narcissism is a disaster in positions of power……..Narcissism is projecting all your discomfort onto the outside….blaming…. and therefore feeling “good” and “free” to be the asshole you are. Bill gets a lot of his power or force because he actually cannot see anything or anyone in terms of themselves………it’s ALL about him. In this case it’s, “Why is Iraq itself? Why must it be a separate thing outside of my mind? I don’t understand!!!! If the world were ME ( without all it’s real complextiy of different groups and ideas ) it would be so much easier……! “
November 9th, 2006 at 11:30 amLa la la la la la I can’t hear it. That sound of civil war and chaos, therefore it must be gone!
Thanks for the great idea Bill!
By the way, waiting for George Allen’s concession this afternoon and expecting news of Karl ROve leaving office to spend more time with his family soon.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:30 amS,
Ego should also be discussed in the context of narcissism.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:32 amWow, if only the democrats had such a masterful plan everything would be peachy.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:34 aminstead of being this crazy country of Shiia against Sunni — I don’t ever want to hear Shiia and Sunni again.
So Bill O proposes to ignore everyone in Iraq except the Kurds. That should be really constructive. After trying to talk up this administration I tink these bush worshippers are taking a look around at the issues out there and are snapping a few brain connections trying to make sense of it all.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:34 amBill doesn’t want to hear those words again? How about this: “It’s a Sunni day in America, Bill, and you’re STILL full of Shiia…”
November 9th, 2006 at 11:36 am“I don’t ever want to hear Shiia and Sunni again…”
Sounds like a kid having a temper tantrum. Maybe if Bill-O holds his breath till his face turns blue, everything will be ok.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:36 amWith my fingers in MY ears…LALALALALALALALALA…I never listen to o’liely……who the hell cares about anything he has to say…
November 9th, 2006 at 11:40 amBill is so full of Shia! with his head stuck so far up his a** that he can’t see the Sunni shine!!!
November 9th, 2006 at 11:40 amI guess the “mirror of truth” is up for O’Reilly when he calls this country “crazy”, eh? He’s the nutcase whose mental illness doesn’t permit the necessary insight to realize it….he’s yesterday’s news….and a good butt of ongoing jokes….he’s no longer legitimate in any sense of the word….comic relief? perhaps…but no credibility left to that man whatsoever.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:42 amNo one I know even tunes into Fox News…..ever! They’re a total “non entity” at this point after all of the proven drivel, lies, and nonsense they’ve purported….nananan…heyheyhey…good-bye!
November 9th, 2006 at 11:43 amO’Lielly needs to be put in a home with other senial old men that crap themselves.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:43 amBill could always be a John Stewart “clone” someday though…he’s got potential there.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:44 amWhat a douchebag.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:47 amYou know, they should just ignore all that history of fighting and start living the dream of democracy because I say so. -B. O’Reilly
November 9th, 2006 at 11:47 amIraq: ‘that was so November 7th’ now that they’re (Repubs) are out of power, it’s the Dems problem. It just goes to show that they never had any blood in the battle. The Reps have moved onto bigger issues; blaming their Tunisian-born Jewish mothers for losing the election.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:49 amNancy Pelosi voted for the war in Afghanistan, for the Patriot Act, for Homeland Security and against a bill that simply condemned torture of prisoners in Iraq. Pelosi is the pro-torture “savior” who we are told will keep in check the pro-torture Bush administration.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:50 amFox could start a new network and call it Fox News Classic because Bill can be an idiot in any century.

BILL O’REILLY: I think the Americans have got to step up and at least try to fight for their democracy, instead of being this crazy country of Union against Confederacy — I don’t ever want to hear Union and Confederacy again.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:50 amWill the Dems taking back the Congress lead to less B.S.-ing from all these pundit blow-hards? God I hope so.
Me thinks the punditeers will re-double their efforts to propagandize the public, except fewer people than ever will listening now.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:52 amI doubt the Shiia and Sunni iraqis give a crap what this pond scum has to say about their crazy country.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:53 amI don’t believe that our blogs should be focusing on someone as insignificant as Bill O’Reilly right now…..he means absolutely nothing to anyone with half a brain. let’s move on and get rid of this ridiculous thread about a total “non entity”….. let’s celebrate the Democratic victory…..cause celebre for “change” in this country….
November 9th, 2006 at 11:54 amIgnore this fool and he’ll eventually go away!
November 9th, 2006 at 11:54 amThis is reminiscent of what O’Reilly said on his show shortly after the terrorists attacks happened on Sept. 11, 2001. His less than intelligent comment was that he had no interest concerning why the terrorists had decided to fly those planes into the World Trade Center. He simply wanted to kill them all. If one does not try to understand why the enemy wishes to attack you, then there is little hope in having war come to an end.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:57 amCan’t we just send him over there to straighten them out? Then we can wager on how long he manages to stay alive. I’d give him about 6 hours, max.
November 9th, 2006 at 11:59 amWhat if, in the first place, they dont want democracy?
November 9th, 2006 at 11:59 amA real diplomatic, Bill.

November 9th, 2006 at 12:00 pmThis is why they have to keep saying that “the Democrats have no plan.”
This is their plan. Hell, it was McCain’s plan.
Pathetic.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:00 pm.
good point Isis. But I do think that if we can further distill and crack the personality structure code of a lot of these deluded people, we will be better off. I’m not talking about prejudice…I’m talking about looking at these people in light of the common good, fairness, freedom of expression, kindness to others, shared responsibility…..etc…etc. These are things are, in my view, the real values. Not any one religion or dogma.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:01 pmWe need to get that into the mass consciousness. Good values don’t need any one religion to showcase them.
Let’s talk about the raging euphoria sweeping this country ….bringing new HOPE to the horizon to the majority of americans!!
November 9th, 2006 at 12:03 pmIn contrast to David Letterman, here we have a simple answer from a simple mind.

November 9th, 2006 at 12:04 pmIt has been a crazy country for the last decades, that’s why they have Saddam, and that’s why they’re only were controlled by Saddam. That was the mistake made by Bush & Co when they decided to invade, a mistake that has cost billions, thousands of lives, and the GOP control of the senate. Reality check for O’Reilly.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:05 pmLast night Bill O said the following

November 9th, 2006 at 12:07 pmWars are never won or lost by “understanding”. They are only won when you have an obvious winner and an obvious loser. BTW, congrats on the big win Tuesday guys. I seriously hope your party will do well for this country. I hope you have a way to bring unemployment below the current 4.4%. I also hope you have a way to win in Iraq. Obviously, the Repugs have failed in Iraq since they haven’t won yet, but you guys and gals hopefully have the way to win. Again, congrats on the win guys!!!
November 9th, 2006 at 12:09 pmI think the Americans have got to step up and at least try to fight for their democracy, instead of being this crazy country of Republican against Democrat — I don’t ever want to hear Republican and Democrat again.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:11 pmYou forget? The commander in Chief is still Bush. Bush still has two years to save his ‘legacy’ and ‘Win’ in Iraq, until then you cannot even begin to try to blame the democrats for the GOP debacle.
I hope Bush, the moot duck, actually does something other than clear brush down on the pig farm.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:16 pmBill O’Rielly is just as insignificant as our own trolls at this point. America made it known that these guys aren’t just a minority, they are specs of dust on the end of a polished turd.
Think Progress should be putting forth its plans and ideas for change in the country. The country is ready to listen now.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:18 pmSo, is O’Reilly now going to threaten to send the FBI to a caller’s home if they mention Shiia or Sunni or investigation, as well as Keith Olbermann?
Can we just put O’Reilly and Limbaugh in a booth with two microphones connected only to in-room monitors and not to the outside world, tell them it’s “No Spin Excellence in Broadcasting 24/7″ and that they are needed by America more than ever? Then, just feed and water them occasionally for the rest of their deluded lives.

November 9th, 2006 at 12:18 pmI am so disgusted with the attitude and the backhanded comments of many Repubs now of “Well let’s see how THEY do with this mess.” It’s always the same. THe Repubs get in power create huge problems for the country and the Dems get voted in and have to clean it up. Then the Repubs say that the Dems just tax. Smuggness is never an attractive attitude and the Repubs are filled with it. The Dems right the rails and lay the track for a prosperous country then here comes the the Repubs to ride the train off the track.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:19 pmI don’t ever want to hear Shiia and Sunni again.
I think that could be arranged. Just let me take care of that for you, Bill.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:21 pmThe first thing we need to do is break the bad news to the country that the unemployment rate is much much higher than 4.4% and that Bush has been cooking the unemployment books for 6 years. Ever since he changed how unemployment is reported.
Yeah, because you guys had no plan, so we are supposed to pick up the pieces after you guys screwed it up. Nope, we need to bring our troops home. That is what the American people want. That is what they will get.
BTW: Roger_Roger, go phouc yourself.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:22 pmOne question: Is it true that this guy has the highest rating in the media?
Why only rednecks have TV´s?
November 9th, 2006 at 12:23 pmRoger - stuff it bud - save the handshakes and empty congratulatory crap for some sucker you know. And another thing - you don’t get to set the standards by which the success of the D congress will be measured - throwing around some bs numbers (that you “know” won’t change much) is a cheap-ass junior high level rhetorical ploy - it holds no water here. But, if that’s how you want to continue to play, it’ll be great to have you around to pound on a while longer - at least you had the guts not to crawl under a rock after the real mainstream of Americans got their say.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:24 pm“Nope, we need to bring our troops home. That is what the American people want. That is what they will get.”
Does that include Afghanistan?
November 9th, 2006 at 12:26 pmBill O - the new SecDef!!!! what a maroon - now that the governmental expression of his bs ideology is kicked to the curb his ratings will begin to circle the hole at the bottom of the bowl, and we’ll have seen/heard the lsat of him. Hey Bill, I hear there are some openings in the televagelist world - maybe your agent should look into those for ya.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:27 pmUh, Bill, I think that’s WHY they (Shia/Sunni) are fighting - FOR CONTROL OF THEIR “DEMOCRACY”, idiot.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:28 pmI AGREE, but I am sure you equally share with me in the joy of posting replies to O’Lilly, Limpballs, Hannity, Coultergeist and the trolls.

November 9th, 2006 at 12:36 pmRoger Rabbit:
One of my co-workers talked about how the economy is doing very well and unemployment is low - what a crock of BS…and I wondered where the hell she got this information. Unemployment might seem low based on Bush moving the goal posts around (remember when he tried to reclassify jobs at McDonalds as manufacturing jobs?!).
Fact is, especially in the Great Lakes region, the economy has sucked the big one for the last six years. We’ve lost thousands and thousands of good jobs only to have more service sector, lower-paying jobs to migrate. We have a serious underemployment problem where most college graduates have to take minimum wage jobs just to earn some kind of money, thousands of people competing over the same 3 jobs, etc.
Luckily I have a decent job but I, like most people I know, we are making about 10% less than we did in 1999. Hmmm do the math. People are supposed to get raises not wage freezes (or declines). We have a serious underemployment problem thanks to Monkey Oil Jr’s policies. Time for a new direction.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:36 pmI was specifically talking about Iraq. The war in Iraq has nothing to do with the war on terror. Saddam DID NOT support terrorists.
Our troop levels in Afghanistan need to be increased. So that we can beat the Taliban who supported terrorists.
November 9th, 2006 at 12:37 pm“Our troop levels in Afghanistan need to be increased. So that we can beat the Taliban who supported terrorists. “

November 9th, 2006 at 12:47 pmSo I guess in that spirit of cooperation and multiculturalism Bill OReilly will only be saying “Happy Holidays” from now on.
Everybody knows that cultural identity is unimportant and not worth fighting over especially when there are important pragmatic issues of governance to discuss.
/snark
November 9th, 2006 at 12:55 pmSo I guess in the spirit of the multiculturalism and cooperation he advocates for Iraqis Bill OReilly will only be saying “Happy Holidays” from now on.
Everyone knows it is important to put aside issues of cultural identity when discussing pragmatic issues of governance. Bill O’Reilly especially understands that and I believe he goes into great detail in his most recent book “Level Headed Assesor of Practical Results for Policy Everyone”
November 9th, 2006 at 1:01 pmbaah double post and reedited at that. forgive me internet
November 9th, 2006 at 1:01 pmPissed Off and SpudgeBoy
I think the trolls are experiencing “Post Reality Check Syndrome” (Pricks)characterized by an episode of catatonia and random verbalizations of slogans. Neocons are particularly resistent to this condition, but once they do contract it, they experience a significantly disabling form which can last for several weeks. They only treatment is to hear a litany of lies, distortions, and platitudes over an extended period of time. Recovery is usually complete and they return to their regular routines. They’ll be back.
November 9th, 2006 at 1:02 pmRoger_Roger …
Wars are never won or lost by “understandingâ€. They are only won when you have an obvious winner and an obvious loser.
I agree that wars are not “won” by understanding but they can be ended that way. Take a look at Northern Ireland for example.
As far a winner and loser in Iraq is concerned, what exactly constitutes winning ? Since most of the on-going violence is betwen Sunni’s and Shia’s who is going to be the winner? Certainly not the U.S. as we have no control over the warlords and religious factions in the country. A good example is the Iraqi PM “ordering” the U.S troops to remove the blockades from around Sadr City.
If “winning” the war means a defeat to all terrorists then neither you nor I will see this “war” won by either side. Maybe the Iraq conflict will end with one side declaring victory but winning a “war” against an idealogy cannot be done by arms alone.
November 9th, 2006 at 1:02 pmOh, puh-leeeeeeeeeeeeze…as if this was all the fault of the Iraqis! We didn’t do anything to contribute to this…oh, no!
…Didn’t buy into the stories of a corrupt exile with an agenda (i.e., Chalabi)…
…Didn’t demand the impossible by insisting that Saddam Hussein prove a negative (exactly how do you conclusively prove the absence of something?)
…Didn’t pre-emptively enter a country which had neither invited us nor attacked us…
…Didn’t go in without enough troops to actually accomplish the job…
…Didn’t go in with completely unrealistic expectations…
…Didn’t subject a number of common petty criminals to sadistic treatment under the flimsy guise of trying to get information.

November 9th, 2006 at 1:37 pmThank You PLC for your clinical diagnosis :-)
November 9th, 2006 at 1:42 pmEXACTLY. Working at Wal-Mart so you don’t have to be on welfare is not equivelent to the skilled job one USED to have before his industry was outsourced. The USA cannot survive just being reliant on the service industry, selling what Chinese products that USED to be made here. We need skilled labor here! We can’t keep shipping it overseas.
We can lower income taxes AND help employment in two simple steps… Reinstate tarrifs and RAISE income tax on the uberwealthy. No CEO is worth tens of millions, let alone billions, of dollars. B and S. When you see bonuses and incomes like in the United Health fiasco, you know their only concern is their pocketbook, not their customers, whose very LIVES depend on their services. Sickening.
November 9th, 2006 at 1:45 pmWhat I found most fascinating about O’Reilly last night is Dick Morris comments. He stated that if SD voted to keep abortions for rape and incest, if the Repugs keep at this pace and make this a ballot issue, they will hand the presidential election to Hillary. O’Reilly kept interrupting him but this man was telling him the votes meant around the country for real.

Bill, the first step in that direction is to have the all occupying troops leave Iraq. It is only from that point on that Iraqis will truly own their destiny,
I don’t ever want to hear Shiia and Sunni again
Had you bothered thinking things through, Bill, you would have realised this was a bad idea from the beginning. Instead, you were a cheerleader of the invasion and hurled insults at the critics.
And now here you are, several thousand dead later, having regrets and second thoughts.
Can you say “We’ve never been ’stay the course’ “, Bill?
