I made a point of saying “Merry Christmas” and not Happy Holidays. If the customer does not have a problem with the word Christmas, then the employees should be allowed to say it. I think that the majority of employees that I came across were very happy to hear “Merry Christmas”.

re: what to call it — if memory serves, the holiday was originally the Pagan Saturnalia and it ran from what is now Xmas to what is now the New Year. The christians did a lot of that in their early years and once Constantine converted, almost all the old holidays were transformed. In the 5th Century, with apologies to all, what had been the Lupercalia when young men ran naked thru the streets of Rome with straps and floggers, and hit young women (gently of course) — at first on their outstretched hands and finally on any part of their unclad bodies they could reach, became the feast of St Valentine and moved one day before the Ides as it had been for centuries. Some South American nations (99.5% Christain) divide the season into a celebration of Christ’s birth, Dec 25, when family members honor the head of household with a small but reverent gift, then on Jan 10th St. Nicholas visits and kids get all their goodies. Makes sense.

I often think O’Reilly is a bore and a bully. And I agree
with him 95% of the time. He’s right, despite what the moronic
secularists think (if they ever DO think). The war against
Christmas and Merry Christmas is real. It is actuated by
people who believe that sucking up to every minority
group somehow makes them virtuous. And who exactly is
offended by the words Christmas or Merry Christmas? Only
the PC-addled facists, those laughably non-openminded liberals
who cherish “diversity” as long as it’s made up of people who
think EXACTLY as they do. A good 98% of Americans celebrate
Christmas, including many Jews. A word of advice to the
mind and speech controllers on the left and to wankers like
Keith Olbermann: don’t tell us what we can say and not say or

Ole Bill really does need to find another subject, doesn’t he? Preferably one with some basis in reality.

Christmas has been — and likely always will be — a cultural phenomenon rather than a spiritual or religious one. Christmas didn’t used to be celebrated the way we celebrate it now, nor did it have all the trappings we commonly associate with it these days. Heck, Congress used to meet on December 25th and the mail used to run.

So if it’s become a crass, commercial day of capitalist celebration, so be it. Back in the day when I was a devout Christian, I celebrated the day as one of appreciation for friends and family (since Jesus was born during lambing season, probably March or April, so it couldn’t actually have been his birthday). Now that I’m not religiously inclined, I still celebrate it as a day of appreciation for friends and family.

And I don’t care what it’s called.

Having took the time to read some of the comments, the world sure is in need of a Merry Christmas and could use Jesus in their life. (Ya I’m sure I just lost a few readers.) For some of the bloggers just born yesterday, Christmas came from the Christian religion. And yes young’ns, there is a reality that Americans (let alone the retail stores and public schools) have been threatened by law suits for using the phrase “Merry Christmas” and other Christian references. Christians are just now being educated that they don’t have to take that anymore and yes they have retaliated against retail stores using our religious holiday for their gain by hurting them where it hurts them the most. It’s unfortunate that in America that we had to win back religious freedom not by our inalienable right, but through the almight buck.

The people of the country that truly believe in Christmas shouldn’t care what these left wing nuts say or do. The Christmas season is a wonderful time of year for gift giving and bringing families together. Along with Hanukkah, Kwanza and all other holidays, it gives us something to look forward to. For the people that spend too much that is their own perogative, so what? Its not like it doesn’t help our economy and keep small businesses going. For the left wing libs out there that don’t believe in ANYTHING you are missing out as you sit in your loney little world. Kids love Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, it is wonderful to see all of the lights and the celebrations. If we all were like you we’d be sitting home feeling sorry for ourselves, certainly not helping the economy grow and god forbid being happy for once. I am glad that WalMart is saying Merry Christmas, why should the Christians be left out. I also don’t go out and get a “holiday” tree, I get a Christmas tree. So What???????? Find another cause to fight. Isn’t my hairspray depleting the ozone? Believe that and I will tell you another crazy lie……..

Itâ€™s one thing to offend Christians, but itâ€™s much different to offend God, and you seem to do at every turn. Just remember all the things youâ€™ve proffered here about God and His loser followers, you will become accountable and know it 5 minutes after you die. But, while God will judge you for ALL of your evil, hateful deeds, He will only ask you one important question during your judgment, He will ask how you handled His Son, Christ the Savior. For this last question will you and your entire ilk be judged. He is the only way to heaven.

The reason Bill Oâ€™Reilly and I are offended by commercial companies changing Christmas to â€œHappy Holidayâ€ is because they are trying to get around the original meaning of Christmas, to celebrate Christâ€™s birth. Nobody has to celebrate or even believe in His birth or death, just please respect those who do. Why is this so hard?

I doubt that you would like me to call your mother a whore, your father a murderer, or you a twice accused and once convicted CHILD MOLESTING PEDOFILE BASTARD. So donâ€™t tell lies about my Savior and donâ€™t mock me for believing in Him and even celebrating His birth at Christmas.

Keep hiding behind your loser JustSomeDude ID and know that God can still see your filthy heart and yet He still loves you as much as he loves me, Bill Oâ€™Reilly, Billy Graham, Elton John and Sam Waltonâ€™s entire family. But God cannot look on sin and, since you and I are both sinners, God sent Christ to us (His birth being foretold 1000s of years prior) to live, be crucified and die for OUR sins. And all you have to do to claim this FREE gift that God sent to you is to believe on His Son, Jesus Christ.
