Isn’t this a violation of federal law?
BTW, just heard on CNN:
the handful of real terrorists that are captured and held in super max. security prison in Colorado are not subject to having their phone calls and mail monitored (not enough staffing, they say) but Bush&Co are hot to monitor the phonecalls, e-mails and snail mail of the rest of us.
Fox is only saying this “may have happened” in reply to the report being all over the internet since yesterday.
How will BO, Hannity, Hume et al cover this? The talking points memo is still in the copy machine.
Let’s be honest. If your butt was on the line then you would want your boss to pay. If you were Murdoch, would you not feel resposible?
Not a good plan for others still there but I am glad they are safe.
Is this any different than what CNN did? They may not have put money in the terrorists pockets (or did they?) but they, knowingly, assisted an assination (by not reporting it).
“A source at FOX said many parties were involved, and that money may have been paid……..”
– Isreali secret agent: “Hiya, Uncle Dick, here’s a couple of bills to get your foxy reporters sprung, we sure appreciate all the help you give us in keeping the war going, you know….. them two dopes were a great excuse to launch a few extra raids…..”
– Oily Dick: “Hey, don’t mention it, I’ll make sure you get this two
mill back in your next aid package, or would you just rather I credit it to the Gun Co.
order?”
– Isreali agent : “Say, great idea, though how ’bout you just write it off, eh? You still never gave us that little something extra for keeping our yaps shut on November 10th, 2001, if ya know what I mean……..”
– Oily Dick : You guys! Never give a country any peace will ‘ya! No problem about the two mill, it’s just chump change anyhow, I’ll get it out of Rummy’s drug company stock, he’ll never know, he’s so tranked up now……
Thanks again, Josh, I sure have learned a lot from you guys over the years…….
Clayburn9, I think you may be missing the point. I think the point is that it’s ironic and hypocritical that conservatives like the men who run FOX often accuse liberals of wanting to deal with terrorists rather than kill them.
BlueDog,
I hear you. We all have lived under the “do as I say not as I do” rules.
I just am saying, in reality, wouldn’t you want the same thing? If you have ever seen one of the beheadings you will agree that I would do just about anything to save my butt. And would hope that my boss, not matter who it is, would try to help me since I was there because of him/her.
I see this more as a nonstory. There is hypocrisy here, no doubt. But I have a feeling anyone of the news media outlets would do it.
The worst part of this story is the group saying they are using the money to attack Americans. I don’t like the idea that this was done but I can definately understand it. If someone does not agree with it just because it is Fox then I think that is also wrong. No matter how this happend it is people that have families, friends etc. Personnaly I don’t want anyone to die that way.
“We don’t negotiate with terrorists” was – as I remember it coined by “Poppy.” According to Kevin Philips in American Dynasty, he had just returned from a Paris meeting in 1979 in which he pledged to sell the Iranian Recolutionary government – then considered a terrorist organization – arms. They only needed to agree to hold onto the hostages until Reagan won the Presidential election. For at least six years Ollie North ran the program to sell arms to the Iranians – then a state ‘known to sponsor terrorists’ – and used the money to fund the Nicaraguan contras. Robert Gates was in the CIA at the time and there is some question about his own level of involvement. This is what the right means by “we do not negotiate with terrorists.” See also “no new taxes”
“I am the decider”
“we don’t torture”
and so on.
#19, Steve. Excellent observation. Thanks for remindeing me.
#20, The New Zealand Herald says this,
“WND said a senior leader of one of the groups suspected of the abductions had confirmed money was received from a US source, but could not identify which organisation or government entity transferred the cash.
Officials associeated with President Abbas’ Fatah party had also confirmed money was paid for the release of Wiig and Centanni.
A source at Fox News reportedly told WND that many parties were involved with freeing Centanni and Wiig, and it was possible money was paid.”
Time might sort it out, but this will probably get lost in the spin and flatulence of the day
Rupert Murdoch?

How many guns and IEDs will 2 million dollars buy, Rupert? Get up there on Fox News and tell ‘em what you did, buddy.

Considering the source… I’m skeptical
