Yesterday, Senate Republicans chose Trent Lott (R-MS) as their new Minority Whip. In 2002, Lott was forced to step down as Majority Leader when “comments he made at former Sen. Strom Thurmond’s (R-SC) birthday party touched off a racially charged controversy.”
At the time, Sen. Charles Hagel (R-NE) said the remark was a “dumb statement” that “raises questions about his judgment.” Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said Lott needed to “proactively send a message to his colleagues in the Senate and the American people that he is absolutely opposed to any segregation in any form and racism in any form and discrimination in any form.”
What was racism in 2002 is a non-issue in 2006. NPR interviewed several senators — including Hagel and McCain — who said that Lott’s racist comments didn’t even come up in his whip nomination:
Here are the Senate Republicans’ comments from the NPR report:
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX):
HOST: In that closed room, did anyone mention specifically the Strom Thurmond birthday party incident that led to–
CORNYN: It didn’t come up.
Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME):
We understand what happened. There’s no point going over. It’s in the past now, you know, and he has expressed, you know, his deep regret, as he should.
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ):
I think most people think he paid a pretty heavy price for the mistake that he made. We all believe in redemption, thank God.
Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE):
Everyone has an opportunity to rehabilitate themselves if they want to do it, and I admire Trent Lott for coming back and offering himself. The conference spoke, and we go forward.
Lott is a perfect representative of the Republican party.
November 16th, 2006 at 5:48 pmThey’re ignoring the FACT that what was caught on tape was Lotts 4th FREAKIN TIME saying such about Thurman.
I dont think Lott is a died in the wool racist but he sure is a very incensitive person.
November 16th, 2006 at 5:54 pmWOW!!! They either have helmets of hair like Lott and Frist or look like Rush and Karl. The GOP heels are sooo detectable. I am sure Trent has changed his stripes…NOT!!!
Go GOP!!!
November 16th, 2006 at 5:54 pmSo you folks can forgive Kerry but not Lott? Nice.
November 16th, 2006 at 5:54 pmLet’s get this moronic conservative talking point out of the way early:
Moronic Troll: Robert Byrd was in the KKK!
Informed liberal: Byrd apologized for his membership almost 40 years ago. Since then, he has a good voting record on civil rights. Strom Thurmond never apologized and I don’t remember hearing an apology from Lott either.
November 16th, 2006 at 5:57 pmYes, people forgive Kerry for botching a joke. Was Lott’s statement a joke?

November 16th, 2006 at 6:03 pmIt is just great that the GOP has seen fit to promote their most racist face to the forefront again, to show their true values.
Did Trent issue new CCC membership cards to all the remaing Republicans in Congress too?
November 16th, 2006 at 6:04 pmI see. Uh huh.
That makes sense, you blind, republican twats.

April 26, 2000
On June 15, conservative talk show host Armstrong Williams asked his guest a very blunt question: “Is homosexuality a sin?”
With candor unbecoming of a politician, Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) responded, “Yes, it is.” Lott then compared homosexuality to kleptomania, sex addiction and alcoholism, saying “There are all sorts of problems and addictions, and difficulties and experiences of this kind that are wrong. But you should try to work with that person to control that problem.”

November 16th, 2006 at 6:19 pmYes, the repugs are what I refer to as “carefully coiffed.” Artificial and superficial.
Dems often look like they got dressed in a hurry. It makes them more believable; they’re like most of us.
Don’t we all know that Jews and nonwhites in America are encouraged to be racially conscious, to organize along racial lines, to appoint racially defined leaders and to openly promote their ethnic interests, including promoting discrimination when it serves them?
When Jews and nonwhites do that it is simply, bussiness as usual.
We also know that European-Ameicans are immediately punished for showing just a hint of racial aggression, ala Trent Lott and John Rocker.
Why the double standard?
Our species is predatory, by nature, which means we seek to maximize the amount of control our racial family has over territory we live in. We seek to establish alpha/beta relationships between racial families.
What multiculturalism really is, is a way to make “minorities” sovereign races, a coalitioin of alpha races, allowed to be racially aggressive, while making the majority, European-Americans, a beta race, afraid to promote their own ethnic interests.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:20 pmI get to be minority whip? Awesome.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:21 pmI just love to whip minorities.
#20. tom baker. Democrats never bring back disgraced resignees, because disgraced Democrats never resign. Foley, but not Studds; Lott, but not Clinton (in the link above); DeLay, but not Murtha. I’m sure there are many, many more.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:22 pmonce a racist…always a racist…
November 16th, 2006 at 6:22 pmIt stands to reason that they would “embrace their own” after a token admonishing….how utterly transparent! Too bad he’ll never regain his reputation!!
November 16th, 2006 at 6:26 pmI don’t forgive Kerry for anything. Kerry has said some really stupid stuff. I don’t think he was joking. I just don’t think he thought about what he said before he said it. Classic Kerry.
But this post isn’t about Kerry is it?
Neither do I forgive Trent Lott for anything. He was trying to support a dying old racist by humoring him and his racism. He told the old dying man that if he had won the presidency based on his segregationist policies, that we wouldn’t have had so many problems. Obviously Lott was saying that preserving segregation would have been better than abolishing it.
Kerry sucks, so what?
Lott sucks too, and more.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:27 pmLott is a bigoted, racist pig. He can’t help it: He was born that way.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:27 pm“Why do Sunnis kill Shiites? How do they tell the difference? They all look the same to me,†— Trent Lott. October 2, 2006
”The people in this room stand for the right principles and the right philosophy. Let’s take it in the right direction and our children will be the beneficiaries.” — Trent Lott in a 1992 CCC meeting. The Council of Conservative Citizens is an offshoot of the KKK.
“Trent is an honorary member,” said Arnie Watson, a former state senator, Lott’s uncle, and a member of the Council of Conservative Citizens executive board.
A 1997 fundraising letter from the CCC also quotes Lott as saying “America needs a national organization to mobilize conservative, patriotic citizens to help protect our flag, Constitution and other symbols of freedom.”
Trent Lott is a racist.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:27 pmLet’s add to that: He’s an ancient, demented racist who probably is suffering from Alzheimers and doesn’t even remember making the comment.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:28 pm#26 – Not really. Look at Lyndon Johnson for one.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:29 pmHow many “heterosexual” men spray a LOTT of hairspray on their hair in the morning–like 10 pounds of hairspray. Pound-for-pound, I bet Lott has more hairspray on top of his head than his wife.
Let’s hope Lott sports a new hairdo with new job. Why not? I suggest he sport an AFRO. An AFRO would be the perfect hairdo for a racist. An AFRO would certainly look better. Of course, anything would look better than his 30-year-old hairdo.
John
November 16th, 2006 at 6:29 pmTo err is human, to forgive you must be a Republican.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:38 pmAmerica’s Least Wanted
Now we are getting somewhere. Kerry made a mistake, flubbed a joke and didn’t mean it (according to your own words).
Trent Lott on the other hand has stated the same racist remarks on more than one occasion. He meant what he said. It wasn’t a slip up. It’s a little harder to forgive somebody that means it over somebody who slipped.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:39 pmAnd yet they bring up ABSCAM to smear Murtha. Classic.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:45 pmSo you folks can forgive Kerry but not Lott? Nice.

So Kevin, you can forgive Lott, but not Clinton? Nice.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:48 pmClinton lied to congress under oath. I can forgive him because he is not a blip on the screen anymore.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:53 pmLott is a scum of the earth backwards moron. Notice how the Republicans choose to travel back in time and take our country with them into regressive thinking . They remove one civil right after another and advocate those who do. This turns my stomach. No excuse for racist remarks because it was not a mistake or a joke, it was a slip of his filthy racist tongue.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:54 pmMel Martinez is running the RNC, and Trent Lott is the Minority Whip in the Senate. Oh the hypocrisy and the lies are too easy.
November 16th, 2006 at 6:57 pmHere’s a gem by Trent
“While it may take generations of nurturing, nations founded on and grounded in freedom will eventually overcome and prosper. Once free, folks rarely accept anything less, and that includes Iraqis. ”
Now was he also talking about African Americans?
November 16th, 2006 at 6:58 pmdam you thinkprogress! i spit my apple over the computer reading those headlines! “Lots racist comments are no longer an issue, admire him for coming back”???!! What kind of bizarro world do we live in where someone admits a politician is racist & then in the same breathe says admire him????
I can only assume this means the republicans are content with become a permanent minority party…so in a way this must be a bizarro world for them to! :) :)
November 16th, 2006 at 6:58 pmKevin: “Clinton lied to congress under oath. I can forgive him because he is not a blip on the screen anymore.”
I see. So I guess you think Trent Lott is more popular with the American public than Bill Clinton. Is the sky blue on your planet?
November 16th, 2006 at 6:59 pmI can forgive him because he is not a blip on the screen anymore.

How very generous of you.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:00 pmDoes this mean that’s completed his “alcoholic rehab” then? Soon Foley will be “cured”, too….They’re hell bent on hanging themselves again in 08, aren’t they?
November 16th, 2006 at 7:01 pm….and I thought Lott wore a rug, myself….like Dubya: “shows you how much I know”. I wonder if it’s Aqua Net or pure lacquer?
November 16th, 2006 at 7:04 pm#39: I presume that you haven’t seen the latest CNN poll about whom the people would select if they could have their dream candidate then?? It was none other than Bill Clinton (also dubbed the sexiest in politics, along with John Edwards). Right on!
Lott would, undoubtedly, get the AquaNet Queen of the Day award, however.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:06 pmNever said he was popular with the American Public. I would not have pushed for Lott. But to call him raciest for a stupid complement to an old man on his birthday would be as insane as saying Kerry hates the military for the stupid thing he said.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:07 pmKevin’s from that distant planet called “Uranus”. Consider the source.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:09 pmNovember 16th, 2006 at 7:12 pm
Fortunately, we do expect a certain level of decorum and sensitivity from those whom we hold in public office and in high esteem. We cannot overlook insensitive, demeaning commentary to be made publicy by them or we’ve lost our moral high ground. After all, we set example for generations to come and, if this is what we tolerate and condone, then our children don’t have a chance of realizing right from wrong. This type of behavior cannot be condoned or perpetuated and your darn right, Kevin, we hold these officials to the high set of moral and ethical standards to which they (at least ostensibly) subscribe when they take their oath of office. Perhaps you should read it yourself sometime?
November 16th, 2006 at 7:12 pmKevin, what you said is that Bill Clinton isn’t a blip on the radar screen anymore. You’re fooling yourself. He’s still the “big dog.” People love him. Lott’s a midget next to him.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:12 pmFirst of all, Lott only joked about Strom’s run for the presidency, and it is a STRETCH to infer he was making a racist comment.
Second, Reps are growing back their balls, dumping weak “compromisers” like Frist and Hastert, and putting in people who can deliver the votes.
Looks like the Reps have their act together, while Pelosi can’t even get her own man Murtha elected. Between the minority party’s focus and Bush’s veto pen, the Dems won’t get any of their extreme left leaning policies passed, with the exception of perhaps illegal immigration, in which the Dems are more in line with President Bush than the Reps ever were.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:13 pm“I want to say this about my state. When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years either. ”
Was no joke.

November 16th, 2006 at 7:22 pmHendler: “Dems won’t get any of their extreme left leaning policies passed.”
Hmmm. In the first 100 hours, Pelosi wants legislation which allows Medicare to bargain with Pharma for lower drug prices. Polls show that between 70 and 80% of Americans agree with that. You call it “far left.” That makes you a crackpot.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:24 pm#58 If you spot it, you got it.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:24 pmHendler: “Dems won’t get any of their extreme left leaning policies passed”
Pelosi wants a new stem cell funding law within the first 100 hours. Polls consistently show about 65% of the public agrees with that. You think it’s “far left.” That makes you very irrelevant.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:26 pm#54 Just watch Pelosi’s smoke and then come back and tell us how little she did in the first 100 hours. I’d venture to guess that it will be more than Dubya accomplished in 6 years.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:26 pmKevin: “Clinton is just an old man running around pimping for a charity. Nice but not really important.”
You really don’t have the slightest idea what he’s doing, do you. Because if you did you would know how stupid your statement is.

November 16th, 2006 at 7:40 pmIt’s not that I’m not compassionate. I am all about helping people that need it. I just don’t think people should (or have to) rely on government for that help.

November 16th, 2006 at 7:43 pmKevin: “By bargain does she mean price controls.”
God, why do I bother. Kevin, the Veterans Administration bargains with big pharmeceutical companies for lower drug prices for veterans. Republicans in congress made it illegal for Medicare to do the same thing. Does that make sense to you? Aren’t our elected representatives supposed to be looking out for our interests? Why are you even arguing about something so obvious. Think about it. Your party fights for larger profits for pharmaceutical corporations instead of lower prices for citizens. DON’T YOU SEE A PROBLEM WITH THAT???!!!
November 16th, 2006 at 7:44 pmI see Zoo….Kevin is the one who’s afraid of the word “sex”. Sexual disorientation, anyone….or is it deviation??
November 16th, 2006 at 7:45 pm#75….No, he obviously doesn’t so don’t waste your time. It’s like asking a 5 year old to take the SAT’s for cripes sakes! I hate it when the juveniles show up on these threads after school.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:46 pmKevin: “It’s not that I’m not compassionate. I am all about helping people that need it. I just don’t think people should (or have to) rely on government for that help.”
OK, so if big pharmaceutical companies price fix drugs so that senior citizens pay twice or three times what the elderly pay in other countries, your solution is…. what exactly? What is the purpose of civil government if not to look out for the interests of its citizens?
November 16th, 2006 at 7:47 pmdon’t know. Why don’t you ask him.
November 16th, 2006 at 7:48 pmcloverleaf,
I didn’t say I agree with Kevin. I don’t know if he’s afraid of sex, and I really hope I never find out either way — I simply said he has a more developed personality than Jason. Which isn’t hard, in the great scheme of things.

Me thinks these people were appointed specifically so that at some point you people would get to post it to a blog like this one. Because it has nothing to do with qualifications.
Take Rice for example. She is an expert on Cold War Eastern Block Countries. Yeah, that will come in handy with no other super powers around. Especially when Bush is focused on Iraq like a puppy is on chewing toilet paper.
November 16th, 2006 at 8:16 pmDear Amanda – Please continue with the Trent Lott story – I look forward your up to the minute updates right alongwith all your posting re: SuperSheet Bobby “KKKKK” Byrd.
November 16th, 2006 at 8:17 pm#82 – Kevin,
November 16th, 2006 at 8:18 pmW’s key criteria when making his appointments is their level of incompetance. When he discovered that Powell was capable of serving as Secretary of State, he immediately trashed him for bedmate Kindofsleezy Rice. Rummy would have stayed in place if #41 had not taken #43 to the woodshed for a proper thrashing.
These are the same “law and order” bigots that repudiate “rehabilitation” in the prison system. Throw them in jail!

I told my students how fat used to be sexy because it meant that a person had money and they started pretend gagging…

Kinda has been since shortly after the election… Hmmm.
Guess the RNC funding to trolls stopped, people from other countries no longer need to bash us, and the liberals who like to debate trolls had no fodder, perhaps?

I gave a test today and third period starting griping about taking it. I told them that I was going to start deducting points for whining. Pretty much the end of that.
November 16th, 2006 at 10:18 pmLooks like the Reps have their act together, while Pelosi can’t even get her own man Murtha elected. Between the minority party’s focus and Bush’s veto pen, the Dems won’t get any of their extreme left leaning policies passed, with the exception of perhaps illegal immigration, in which the Dems are more in line with President Bush than the Reps ever were.

Where’s Tundra to whine about this…. I’m going to let them watch a movie tomorrow. (Like he does much work the day before a holiday break). Plus, they turned in a major project and had a test this week. I’m not big on the grind stone… it seems to amplify the whining factor.

Hoyer is a DLC clone, but Murtha got real close to being busted, so I think the Democrats as a majority are looking at the corruption issue.
I know Pelosi is definately planning on it with the “Drain the Swamp”
Murtha didn’t take the bribe, but the Repukes do not care about facts. They make up their own “facts”. They already were, waiting to unleash. Trolls gave me that clue, with the lies they tried out here.
They always try it on us, the blogsphere, first, then it hits Fox. Never fails.

Moronic Troll: Robert Byrd was in the KKK!
Informed liberal: Byrd apologized for his membership almost 40 years ago. Since then, he has a good voting record on civil rights. Strom Thurmond never apologized and I don’t remember hearing an apology from Lott either.
Comment by Bluedog49 —
Just as you predicted, Bluedog49, Mighty Moronic Troll brought up the KKK bit again in #89, just as he/she/it never fails to bring up Ted Kennedy’s fatal automobile accident (while never mentioning, of course, that Laura Bush caused an even younger person to die in a car crash).

November 17th, 2006 at 1:06 amThe point isn’t that he made these comments as a racist. It’s that he made them to further his standing with racists. It’s just like George Allen calling the guy “Macaca.” Racism really has only one benifit; (if you can it that) it’s power by association. In Lott’s case it’s a calculated manuever. In Allen’s, it’s probably something patholigical. What’s so telling in the Senator’s admitting it never came up is that they recognise it’s value. Just like Corker, they could denounce it if they didn’t find it so useful. Obviously, they plan to stoke the fires of white pride in ‘08. If Karl gets “the math” right next time, they just might make it.

November 17th, 2006 at 1:59 am#210
When the civil rights bill was passed, the dixie-crats left the democratic party for the waiting arms of Nixon and the Republicans. Historical fact.
This is not about civil war, lol
this is about bigotry.
Bigots are criminals, they preach hate, they preach murdering people with different color skin. That is what the KKK and CCC as well as dozens of splinter groups do.
They are criminal organizations that seek to deny others of their rights.
Those that support them or seek their support, should also be seen as someone with criminal intent.
November 17th, 2006 at 2:09 amWow
War Crimes Probe Sought for Rumsfeld
————-
Former U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Janis Karpinski, the one-time commander of all U.S. military prisons in Iraq, said she would testify against her superiors because only a handful of low-ranking soldiers have been convicted in the abuse at Baghdad’s Abu Ghraib prison.
Karpinski, who was relieved of her command and demoted to colonel last year, said she wanted to “be a voice for my soldiers.”
“They were tried and convicted in the world court before they ever set foot in any courtroom … while people who are far more culpable and responsible have walked away blameless,” Karpinski said during a presentation of the case in Berlin.

November 17th, 2006 at 9:42 amHappy Guy (#216), Good job, you are right on point there. The extreme hypocracy on the left all to visable. They are all about tolerance and forgivness for those who share their view. They say they stand for freedom of choice as long as you chose they same as them. If your view, opinion, or feelings differ from theirs, instead of trying to provide an intellectual arguement, they go on the attack and personalize the issue calling people they know nothig about “homophobes”, “Idiots” and the like.
And all those that think the Rumsfield should be tried for war crimes, then you would agree that Murtha and Kerry (and others) should be tried for treason on grounds of rendering aid to the enemy by encouragement and making sapecious statements about the government along with attempting to incite mutany.
November 17th, 2006 at 9:53 amWell, it looks like the wing-nuts have been tightened to levels previously unheard of!

C’mon, you can do it!
I consider Lott’s Nomination a stroke of luck for the Democrats who can always point to Lott and say, “Look! The Republicans chose a racist to be their representative.” Let the supidity continue!
November 17th, 2006 at 10:21 amDRxJ, your post seems a little disjointed. Maybe too much Kool-aid.
It is hypocritical to say that just because Byrd is a member of the Democratic party that he is entitled to forgivness for years of being a member of an organization that brings discredit to ALL members of this nation. But at the same time, Lott must be crucified for his statement and can never be forgiven.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:25 amKeep in mind McCain’s support for Lott here. It was a close vote and without McCain’s help, this probably wouldn’t have happened. Tapped is putting together a regular update on McCain’s “true colors” as he tries to move rightward before his presidential campaign officially kicks off. Should be worthwhile reading.

November 17th, 2006 at 10:55 amAnd the Democrats elect anti-military, pro-homosexual, pro-ILLEGAL imigration, anti-childrens rights to live Pelosi to speaker of the house, while they keep racist Byrd in their protected flock. Do the parties not have the right to elect who they want? I am just glad that they wised up in the Senate and didn’t elect Murtha as Majority Leader.
Here is an Idea for the Presidential ticket in 08, McCain and Lieberman. At least there are two people in Washington that are willing to stray from solid party lines.
As for the GOP being “perversion inc.” The Demsocrats haev made sure to ensure the rights of all perverts to be perverted.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:55 amWayne, OK Byrd is no longer in the Klan, does that mean that he no longer has those same ideas in his head. That is like saying that just because I do not go to church, I do not believe in God.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:58 amAnd Jesse Jackson is still a supporter of the Black Panthers, so I guess he still believes in black domination.
And Pelosi supports a lot of Gay/Lesbian organizations, does that make her a Lesbian?
Bottom line, the party of “tollerance” needs to learn to be more tollerant and forgiving. Everyone does stupid things and has dark things in their closet.
November 17th, 2006 at 11:03 am#231 – Sen. Byrd has publicly apologized numerous times for his membership in the Klan. Sen. Thurmond had never apologized for his racist past nor for having used the term “nigra” for most of his life.
Sen. Lott has apologized (somewhat) for his comments. Something like: “I’m sorry if my comments hurt your feelings.” Kind of like saying “I’m sorry that you’re offended by my offensive comments.”
The main difference between Democrats and Republican is the racist “Dixiecrats” left the Democratic party when they started embracing civil rights, and guess which party these “Dixiecrats” joined? The Republican party. Just because they changed their party name doesn’t mean they changed their racist feelings or actions.
November 17th, 2006 at 11:55 amStop making sense Robert. If you hand them facts or give them questions they will respond by changing the subject or making fun of you.

November 17th, 2006 at 12:15 pmBut I’ll bite anyways, just to see the response
Happy Dude and Robert, has Lott ever apologized for his bigoted remarks? Has he abandon his membership to CCC? Have YOUforgiven Byrd for his racist beliefs, which he denounced decades ago?
Ahhhhhh to irony of having to think, to form an opinon of one’s own!!!
DRxJ, you’re just evil! ;-)
When someone is complaining about the splinter in your eye, it’s in bad taste to tell them about the beam in their eye.
Basically, nobody on this site has ever claimed that the Democrats were pure as the driven snow. (Whatever THAT means. . .) It’s the neo-cons and the kool-aide drinkers that claim that the Republican can do no wrong and have never made any hypocritical decisions.
What were the right-whiners saying on Nov 6th? That we would never win, and “they” had a permenant lock on the majority? History has NEVER been stuck in one-party rule forever. Democrats will eventually lose majority, but not before they get the chance to address the Republican excesses and clean up the Republican messes.
November 17th, 2006 at 12:22 pmThere will always be corruption among politicians of both political parties. That said, not all sins or sinners are equal. The Democratic equivalents of traffic violations are not the same as the Rape, Murder, Torture, and Corruption perpetrated by the so called Republicans from now til Nixon. Americans are becoming aware of the injustices the current Republicans are unified in support of. This is why we, the American people, overwhelmingly voted the party of corruption out of office. This is why no incumbent Democrats were voted out. The ratio of evil and sin perpetrated by the Republican party of corruption FAR OUTWEIGHS any sins committed by current Democrats. Republicans are the party of sin, corruption, greed, murder, torture, rape, exploitation, bigotry, hatred, violence, deceit, and mental illness. This is an irrefutable fact that Americans are painfully aware of and are in the process of doing something about. We will prosectute and convict every so called Republican criminal until such time that the Republican party has been cleansed. Ken Lay, Tom Delay, Jack Abramoff, Mark Foley, Don Rumsfeld, and the list of Republican filth goes on. The day is young and we the American people have alot of work to do. And no amount of lying, weasel, smear the Democrats tactics will deter us from putting a spot light on racists like Trent Lott, George Allen, and their racist buddies in the Republican party as well as their overwhelmingly racist constituency.

November 17th, 2006 at 12:53 pmHey DRxJ
Has Kennedy apologized for killing a woman while drunk driving.
Has Clinton apologized for molesting women and exposing himself
Has Kerry apologized for putting down our troop (multiple times and he did not apologize for it. He apologized for our understanding what he said)
And Democrat Soldier (now that is an Oxy moron, or just moron). This site is all about claiming the Democrats are perfect. Show me an article about one of those criminals? This site skips everything about Reid and his deals. Or how about news showing Pelosi and anyone has issues

Don’t know, since that incident most likely happened before I was born. But since you brought up another irrelivent post…Did Laura Bush every apologize for killing her ex-boyfriend with a car?
Has Clinton apologized for molesting women and exposing himself
Nope, he’s never apologized, because HE NEVER MOLESTED OR EXPOSED. You really should stop gettting your argumentive posts for Ann Coulter
Has Kerry apologized for putting down our troop
Since he was making fun of George W there was no need to apologize to the troops….DUH!
And Democrat Soldier (now that is an Oxy moron, or just moron)

November 17th, 2006 at 2:07 pmDoes anyone see the irony of giving Trent Lott the title “Minority Whip”? The same man who lamented the demise of a segregated South at old Strom Thurmond’s Birthday party?
November 17th, 2006 at 2:52 pmHey Robert, while you’re busy “forgiving” people for trivial bullshit, is that what the Iraqi’s should do after Bush and Co lied in order to commit the genocide of 650,000 thousand people and occupy a sovereign nation? Should the families of the dead, maimed, or mentally disturbed soldiers forgive Bush and Co for senselessly sending them to murder and die for oil and war profiteering? Should the tax payers forgive Bush and Co for squandering Trillions of tax dollars in order to line their own pockets with big defense contracts and inflated oil price kick backs from the Saudis for keeping Iraqi oil on lock down?
Your qualifying the trival comments made by Kerry and Clinton’s consentual sexual indiscretions as somehow equal to the mass murder, rape, torture, thievery, and utter corruption the Republicans and the Bush administration are responsible for is an insult to the highest degree. That said, I forgive all of these murderers and I forgive you for your undeniably blind ignorance.
But lets not confuse forgiveness with forgetting or condoning. Bush and all of his cohorts should be tried for war crimes, and if you can’t see that, you’re as ignorant as the people of Nazi Germany that blindly followed Hitler as he slaughtered millions.
November 17th, 2006 at 7:10 pmProgressiveKen,#250, where the hell did that come frome. I do not believe that Bush was any part of the exchange that was going on. And if you want to charge him with warcrimes, the you must also charge all the members of congress that voted to send us there as well. This would include John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and the sweetheart of them all, Hillary Clinton. They are all party to it and the Congress has the authority to stop it as well.
As for the 650,000 Iraqis that have died. Did they all die by the hands of the U.S? No, they did not. A VAST majority have been killed by either their own people or by the insergency. How often do we hear stories about a Suni going into a Shite marked and blowing himself up while killing 15 or twenty INNOCENTS that are just trying to get a loaf of bread. This is not something that the U.S. created. It is very much a part of their culture. Read a little about their history and you might get a clue.
And do not even begin to lecture me about the dead, wounded and troubled military members. I AM ONE OF THEM. I have been there twice and was decorated both time. I am VERY proud of my service to my country and for the positive things I have done in Iraq. You however are ignorant enough to believe only what you see on CNN. You fall in to the trap that all the news from Iraq is bad. I was there for their FIRST elections. I have seen several schools open and aid rendered to countless numbers of Iraqis. I have been there to see the Iraqi men run out ov there houses and shake our hands, offer us food and drink and thank us for our presence.
I am not nearly as blind as you may think. I have seen the issue from more sides than you EVER will
November 17th, 2006 at 7:36 pmre: #251 Fraudulent Robert
If you were there twice Robert, you wouldn’t be relying on “hearing stories” to receive your intel. You’ve never been anywhere. And we all supported Bush initially because he lied to us. That doesn’t make me or Kerry guilty of war crimes because we fell for his lies. You’re just another fool like anyone else that still supports Bush Co Mass Murder and Deception.
November 18th, 2006 at 2:19 amDeath Toll in Iraq / Direct result of US led invasion
(via online.wsj.com) – “Iraqi Death Toll Exceeds 600,000, Study Estimates: A new study asserts that roughly 600,000 Iraqis have died from violence since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, a figure many times higher than any previous estimate.”
Notice the death toll of 600,000 in Iraq occurred “since” the US led invasion. That means it occured after and as a direct result of the US led invasion. In simple terms, if you still dont get it, that means that if the US hadn’t invaded Iraq, 600,000 people would still be alive. Iraq would also have it’s infrastructure intact. And Bush & Republicans wouldn’t resemble the other historical figures that have committed genocide while occupying foreign countries. Reference Hitler, Stalin, Mao Zedong, & Milosevic for examples of similarities to Bush and Republicans.

#253 is like saying that if the Wright Bros. had not invented the airplane then the Al Qada would not have used them on Sept 11.
November 18th, 2006 at 9:26 amre:#255 Wright Brothers 9/11 Straw Man Argument does not refute US responsibility for Iraqi Casualties.
This isn’t a case of airplanes mysteriously being the cause of 9/11. There is a direct correlation between the casualty rates in Iraq and the US involvement since 1991. The 600,000 Iraqi deaths attributed directly to the current US occupation of Iraq is a conservative estimate. According to sources such as U.S. Bomb Watch that have been tracking the Iraqi death toll since 1991, the US has has been directly responsible for the deaths of over 1.5 million Iraqis through a combination of “Shock and Awe” bombing campaigns, Sanctions, and the destruction of the Iraqi infrastructure. Take a look.
History of Methodology of U.S. Bombing Watch
There are three main facets to the U.S. Bombing Watch archive: U.S./U.K. bombings of Iraq from 1999 to 3/19/2003; U.S./U.K. Invasion of Iraq from 3/19/2003 to 4/16/2003; and finally, the continuing U.S./U.K. Invasion and Occupation from 4/16/2003 to the present. In the future the U.S. Bombing Watch team is planning to compile a listing of all U.S. bombings of Iraq from March, 1991 to December 1998, as well as create an online chronicle of the Jan-March, 1991 U.S. invasion, slaughter and brief occupation of Iraq (mainstream historians call this the ‘Persian Gulf War’).
Note this archive has been primarily focused on U.S. bombings and military invasions of Iraq; the extremely important experience of the U.N. sanctions (mainly maintained by the U.S.) is instructive for the level of indirect violence the sanctions caused, killing off over 1.5 million Iraqis, about 50% of these deaths were Iraqi children under the age of 5. For more on the U.N. sanctions against Iraq, please visit the invaluable Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq’s “About Sanctions” page.
Click on this link for more proof of Bush Co & Republican sponsored Genocide in the middle east: http://www.ccmep.org/usbombingwatch/2003.htm#day%201
November 18th, 2006 at 10:08 amSo, the U.S. placed the sanctions or did the UN. And do all parties of the UN have the responsibility to up hold the sanctions or not.
I guess that NONE of these deaths can be attributed to the insergents, Bath loyalists, or the 41 other nations that went in with us, can they. It is all the fault of the U.S.
Blame America First does not hold water
November 18th, 2006 at 10:16 amGeorge Bush I and II and their lackey’s called the shots on the invasion of Iraq just like Hitler called the shots when Poland got invaded. Although the German people were complicit to some degree, the bulk of the blame lies squarely with Hitler and his cronies. The same holds true with regard to Iraq. The American people supported Bush and Co on good faith but were lied to and manipulated. The majority of Americans woke up last week on election day and called for accountability. I don’t blame America. I felt extremely patriotic Tuesday before last and I’ll feel patriotic again after the indictments roll in and the Republicans calling the shots are held accountable.

I guess it is a bad thing that we took this man out of power. His people had it so good then. How many Millions died under his rule?
November 18th, 2006 at 10:26 amOk, Bush acted on intel ranging from the Germans, Russians, Brits and the CIA. People want to say that he lied. If he did it was because he was lied to.
Saddam violated UN mandates how many times? 17 at least. And the fat cats at teh UN kept allowing it. Finally 42 nations took a stand and acted when the UN failed to act. But every one wants to fault the U.S. and Bush.
On thing people need to keep in mind is that in order for us to have stayed in Iraq so long, the Congress had to approve it. We have been there almost 4 years nad the congress has approved the funding at least 6 times.
Do not misunderstand me, I do feel bad for the innocent killed and wounded. It does not matter if it was by U.S., Brits, or the Insurgents (mostly non-Iraqis and non-Arabs)
I agree we need a new course in Iraq. But I do not think that withdrawl is the right one.

In the midterm elections, 40% of eligable voters votes. Of those 50% voted for Democrats. So 1/2 of 40% is 20% of eligable voters voted for Democrats, tht is hardly a majority of Americans. By using your logic, 80% of eligable voters did not vote for Democrats.

Comment by Chairborne PX Ranger Robert — November 18, 2006 @ 9:23 am
Dearest Robert:
If you indeed earned those awards through military service, why aren’t you acting accordingly? Childish displays, temper tantrums and making demands you are in no position to make does not support your claims nor does your behavior reflect favorably upon anyone representing the US Military. If you served in the Military, why not simply elaborate on your experiences rather than whine, threaten, and claim to have an obviously fake DD214? I imagine if you do have a service record in your possession, you no doubt removed it from your father’s file cabinet or you found one with a google search to claim as your own. And if there is some remote chance in hell that you indeed served, which I doubt, you were no doubt in the rear with the gear. But judging from your atrocious grammar and spelling, I doubt you would survive as a desk jockey, much less Basic Training. So I’ll stick with my first hunch that you somehow have access to your Daddy’s DD214, dress up in his old uniform while you play shooting games on the Sony Playstation, and fantasize about shooting brown people for Bush. You certainly don’t pass the stink test in any sense. You need help kid. The world isn’t a giant video game. War is serious business and it shouldn’t be waged against people based on a pack of lies. I suggest you take an ethics class or seek some professional help for your problem. Until then its best that you avoid political discussions which reveal your supreme misunderstanding and lack of compassion for those involved. Thanks for the email offer but no thank you. I don’t want any viruses sent to my email address. If you have anything to substantiate your claims, you can post it here for all to see. Stay in school.

You are right about one thing. I am a support Marine. My primary MOS is 3537 (Motor Transportation Chief) but I am currently working as a web administrator, and Information Management Officer for a Marine Logistics Group consisting of over 7000 Marines.
I went to boot camp May 24, 1993 in San Diego and I am currently still on active duty. I spent my 2003 tour at Camp Fox supporting operations and my 2005 tour at Camp Taqaddum. It is a large airbase that was used by the Iraqi Air Force. It is the one that was featured in many publications with photos of aircraft buried in the sand dunes.
I am far from a teenager. I am 36 years old. I am far from the PX ranger you claim me to be. Every award I have received, I earned.
I do not lack compassion for the people in Iraq in the least. I wish for them to have a long, prosperous life with out the involvement of our government or any other foreign influence.
As for the play station comment, I do not ever own one. I am too busy raising my 3 children.
