“HE THAT WOULD MAKE HIS OWN LIBERTY SECURE, MUST GUARD EVEN HIS ENEMY FROM OPPRESSION; FOR IF HE VIOLATES THIS DUTY, HE ESTABLISHES A PRECEDENT THAT WILL REACH HIMSELF”. Thomas Paine
One of the most moving and relevant documentaries of this year is missing from that list. That film would be Sir! No Sir!, which told the little-known story of the GI resistance movement which took place at GI coffeehouses near military bases at home and abroad during the Vietnam War. This documentary is now helping the soldiers of today’s military realize that they can and should search their consciences to discover that the occupation of Iraq, like the war in Vietnam, was based on lies and that those soldiers have not only a right but a duty and an obligation not to participate in this illegal war and occupation in Iraq. As Lt. Watada basically said in his speech at the banquet table at the Veterans for Peace convention last August in Seattle, the war machine can and should be stopped from within.
I wish there was some place to purchase all of these movies.

Ahh, at the right-wing outlet mall, where the neocons buy all their news, policies, and campaign materials.

November 16th, 2006 at 2:08 pmI went to see The War Tapes in the theater. There was a National Gaurdsman there to answer questions. He was basically there to cheerlead for the war.
Read my old blog post about it here.
