has just been elected the new House Minority Leader.
UPDATE: Hotline is reporting that Boehner’s margin of victory was 168 to 27.
UPDATE II: Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO), the outgoing Majority Whip, has been elected House Minority Whip. The Hill notes, “Blunt defeated [Rep. John] Shadegg 137-57 for minority whip despite last week’s midterm election blowout. Some believed Blunt would be cast aside as tainted by long membership of the leadership team, but his colleagues opted to stick with lawmaker who knows the ins and out of House rules.”
Who did you think they were going to elect? A moderate? Ha!
November 17th, 2006 at 9:23 amUnlike the Dems, who are attempting to bridge the partison gap, GOPers never learn.
Time for a SERIOUS bitch-slapping.
Dear Shrub, your Impeachment hearings are coming…
November 17th, 2006 at 9:25 amWell it gives him a bully pulpit from which he can blame the troops for Iraq.
November 17th, 2006 at 9:43 amBoner.
November 17th, 2006 at 9:48 amLott.
Bipartisanship?
Will the media now cover the repugs vote ad nauseum as they are covering the Dems?
November 17th, 2006 at 9:50 amThe media is chomping at the bit to cover manufactured infighting in the House. Apparently the words of Pelosi, Murtha and Hoyer yesterday weren’t enough.
Isn’t this guy in some serious trouble concerning the whole Foley spectacle?
November 17th, 2006 at 9:51 amIsn’t Boehner the guy who passed around money from lobbyists on the House floor?
November 17th, 2006 at 9:58 amWhile the press loves dredging up 25 year old stories on Murtha, will someone have the balls to mention Boehner’s ethical standards?
Isn’t Boehner the guy who passed around money from lobbyists on the House floor?
Comment by Marie
That’s the guy, Marie. Tobacco money, I believe.
We can hope that Boehner’s election to this post will help the struggling hairspray and tanning bed industries….
November 17th, 2006 at 10:05 amI like the word…’Minority’….leader…..the first step in stopping the bush gang.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:07 amOne huge step..nowhere. Heckuva job GOP, heckuva job.
Way to learn from your history and advance.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:09 amI just see (R-OH) and figure they’ve put another felon in charge.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:12 amDisgusting partisanship.

November 17th, 2006 at 10:17 amWhat a Boner move
Frist?
Martinez?
Now Boehner?
Truly bankrupt of talent on that side of the aisle. maybe we should thank them. Then again they have reinforcing and supporting failure as their role model.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:18 amNo worse than that idiot Schumer – he said yesterday that Ted Kennedy was a beacon of justice and fairness – what a joke.
more like a beeker of bourbon.
But of course that story seems strangely un-posted here.

Obviously you found the story somewhere — why don’t you go back there and read it again?
November 17th, 2006 at 10:27 amSound like 168 yet to go.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:28 am#14, ad hominem attacks notwithstanding, Ted Kennedy has always been a champion for the little guy in America.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:28 amCompare the Kennedy family, their wealth and what they have done with the Bush family, their wealth and what they have done.
I think this is good news, instead of electing a middle of the road conservative, they chose wing nut religious freak. I hope the GOP keeps it, they can marginalize themselves into oblivion.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:33 amGreat, republicans are showing who they really are and the “liberal Media” let it slide only to focus on Democratic elections in the house. Racist Trent Lott and John Boehner, the man who was handing out kick back check from the cigarette companies were elected by the republicans.
November 17th, 2006 at 10:34 amTo quote myself from the previous thread:
November 17th, 2006 at 10:49 am
but his colleagues opted to stick with lawmaker who knows the ins and out of House rules.â€
Let’s just say he knows the “outs” of the House rules and not fool ourselves okay?
November 17th, 2006 at 11:08 ambut his colleagues opted to stick with lawmaker who knows the ins and out of House rules
Aren’t the House rules about to change? Did the Republicans really think the Democrats were going to run the House the exact same way? This was short-sighted on their part.
November 17th, 2006 at 11:16 amIsn’t he the guy who said two weeks ago that “Rumsfeld was the best Secretary of Defense in the last 25 years”,and he blamed the military generals instead for Iraq failures. Good luck for GOP.
November 17th, 2006 at 11:29 amZooey
Why would i read it again ? … i had no problems understanding and agreeing with it the first time.
Ill go where i want and say what i want – just because your a Democratic Homer doesnt mean everyone here is. You have no real answers so you attack (just like the Republicans)
So your saying Kennedy is your Hero or lover or daddy or what?
Its the same one-sided partisanship here that you find at any NeoCon website … Idiots like Zooey are NO different than Hannity.
How about having a site that actually gives readers the REAL news as it happens? But NO – it’s all filtered to slant it towards the DEM or Rep agenda.
Schumer is a scumbag and so is Kennedy.
November 17th, 2006 at 11:47 amIdiots like Zooey are NO different than Hannity
Correction: Zooey is NO idiot. Hannity is one of the bigger ones.
November 17th, 2006 at 12:04 pmGovt. Mule,
As a self described Ass you speak only for yourself here.
Republicans are still acting like Asses, so you’re probably in the group.
If you want to start a ‘who’s worst’ contest, we’ll beat you like a borrowed mule.
Wingnuts beat the Dems hands down when it comes to Assiness and Truthiness. They lie a lot, too. Proud of that? I thought so.
I hear Jason could use some counseling. Maybe you can find him on Red State and provide some sage advice for a mixed up little boy.
By the way, if Schumer & Kennedy are scumbags, how would you describe DeLay, Cunningham, Libby, Ney, Haggard, Foley, Hasturd and the rest of the ‘gang w/no brains’?
I look forward to your thoughtful response

Um…you can post it if you want. I guess TP is just too busy with all the idiotic things that the Repubs are doing that they can’t search for such explosive quotes like the one you mention. I mean wow that is such a hot topic. A Dem generally praising another Dem. Wow. That is a Fox News alert.
November 17th, 2006 at 12:07 pm“stay the course”…
…Govt mule meat…
…all dogs turn around to look at their sh*t…
…why shouldn’t you?

If all you’re going to do is bring up cliched trash-talk, at least spell things correctly: it’s BEAKER.
I’m curious, did you pick your ’screen name’ because you’re a masochist? You’re leaving yourself wide open to ridicule.
November 17th, 2006 at 2:30 pm#23, yes, ‘Boner’ said Rummy was doing “a fantastic job.”
November 17th, 2006 at 2:42 pmLearned sooooo much from their errors, yes, this guy was up to his snout in Abramoff money. Funny thing is, on the SCLM I keep hearing how Pelosi hasn’t turned the country around yet, she has had six days, these guys had six years. To anyone listening she learned alot from watching Hastert and Boner, when the lady gets down to business-when it is her turn in JANUARY-good things will come. The American people deserve it as much as the rest of the world!
November 17th, 2006 at 2:58 pmY’know… I’ve read this site for a long long time, and it is starting to turn into exactly what the conservatives pinned it as. There was never ANY question that these elections were going to go exactly as they did. This site has become as much groupthink garbage as the right wing nutcase sites.
What was this shit with claiming Abizaid smacked down John McCain and not reporting about how he gave the same treatment to the liberals? I support the cause of this site, but its blind search for anything resembling dirt on the republicans has gotten downright annoying.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:26 pmunbelieveable ….. Blunt made it to the 20 most corrupt members of congress http://www.citizensforethics.org/press/newsrelease.php?view=156 that’s according to citizens for responsible ethics and
i believe boehner is in the senate and he is equally as corrupt
when is this criminal activity going to end…… never ? :(
