The White House Bulletin, a service of Bulletin News, reports that White House senior political adviser Karl Rove — aka “Bush’s Brain” — may soon be on his way out:
The rumors that chief White House political architect Karl Rove will leave sometime next year are being bolstered with new insider reports that his partisan style is a hurdle to President Bush’s new push for bipartisanship. “Karl represents the old style and he’s got to go if the Democrats are going to believe Bush’s talk of getting along,” said a key Bush advisor.
Other elements are also at play: The election yesterday of Sen. Trent Lott to the number two GOP leadership position in the Senate is also a threat to the White House and Rove, who worked against him when he battled to save his majority leader’s job after his insensitive remarks about Sen. Strom Thurmond.
And insiders report that Bush counsel Harriet Miers isn’t a fan, believing that Rove didn’t do enough to help her failed Supreme Court nomination among conservatives. In fact, one top West Wing advisor said that the unexpected ouster of Rove aide Susan Ralston over ethics questions was orchestrated by Miers as a signal to Rove to leave. The advisor said that Rove is aware of the situation and that a departure might come in “weeks, not months.” A Rove ally, however, noted that he has a record of out-witting his critics.
Early this year, Rove gave up his role of overseeing policy development to focus more on politics with the approach of the fall midterm elections.
Rove said prior to the midterm elections that he had “the math” to prove the Republicans would win back the House and Senate. Rove’s predictions were proved wrong, earning him a public sniping at the hands of President Bush who said: “I obviously was working harder in the campaign than he was.”
That’s such a tease . . .
What am I supposed to do with all this pent-up rage now?
We won on Nov. 7, Rumsfailed is out, Rove on his way . . .
Aha! The Do-Nothing Dems!!! I can’t wait.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:06 pmRove had his moment and was indeed a great politcal mind. He was very divisive and probably hurt the country overall as he was only about winning. Rove leaving is good for the country, but probably bad for the Repugs. Will him leaving mean the Dems will hold hands with Bush? How would that go over with this crowd? That soap opera will be fun to watch indeed!!!
November 17th, 2006 at 3:12 pmThis is not the end of Karl. It’s just time to go work on another campaign! Where do we think he’s going?
November 17th, 2006 at 3:12 pmAmerica’s Least Wanted
Another creep in a long line exiting the White House.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:13 pmMost go by subpoena, but KKKarl may leave before he’s summoned.
How’s the math working for you, Karl?
I think you forgot one integer in your election equation…
Americans aren’t as stupid as you predicted!
I know, you’ll do a book and make a Million $’s, but you won’t
be able to go outside without people laughing at you.
That’s gotta hurt, brainboy.
Maybe you & Rush can shack up with Gannon for a weekend.
Hannity could serve you cold ones while Rush gobbles Oxycontin.
Who knew retirment could be that much fun?
A Rove ally, however, noted that he has a record of out-witting his critics.
Rove doesn’t out-wit anyone. He is just less scruples -if any- about slinging mud towards his opponents and has no compunctions whatsoever about making the most unsavory accusations against them (does anyone remember the smear campaign against McCain’s for supposedly having an illegitimate black daughter?)
At any rate, this should be a very interesting development, if it really came to happen. I wonder what Rove’s “math” is on this one.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:14 pmWell, time to round up the extra campaign funds… time for a good ol’ fashioned bribe.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:14 pmWhere should we foward his mail……to prison!
November 17th, 2006 at 3:18 pmThe only way he should leave is handcuffed, or body bagged.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:19 pm“Bush’s new push for bipartisanship.” Puh-lease.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:20 pmSo Rumsfeld and Rove are to blame for all of the missteps.
That explains everything.
Now Bush can be the compassionate conservative he was born and bred to be.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:20 pmThis man will be a menace to America and the world no matter where he ends up.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:22 pmWoohoo. Dems take control of House and Senate. Rumsfeld left. Rove might leave.
It just keeps getting better and better!
November 17th, 2006 at 3:23 pmIf Harriet Miers is the mastermind behind Rove’s ouster, it kind of undermines the whole “she’s a dimwitted Bush puppet” meme. I mean, that guy has mystique, deserved or not.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:24 pmWhen you’re right, you’re right. When you’re wrong…
You go work for FOX.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:25 pmWasn’t this reported about this time last year in Time? Really I can’t take these teasers anymore. It is just cruel.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:26 pmI’ll give 50-to-1 odds that any book the Rover writes (unless he names names in the ongoing WH scandals) will be in the remainder bins and on Scaife’s Christmas list two months after they come off the presses.
Rethugs don’t think they need anything from him any more, and Dems despise him. Who else would buy his crap?
November 17th, 2006 at 3:26 pmNot gonna happen. Bush can’t take a piss without Rove directing the stream.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:28 pmMystique????
November 17th, 2006 at 3:29 pmMaybe balls, bu mystique????
Not to me he doesn’t.
Whaddya wanna bet he gets a nice job at Fox, they are pretty much his creation anyway.
Karl Rove sings a different tune when he is looking out for number one and now that he is cooperating in my prosecution of Scooter Libby and ongoing investigation of Dick Cheney.

November 17th, 2006 at 3:31 pmDoes the god damn baby killer think that’ll keep his Christian terrorist ass out of prison? Or keep him from being handed over to the Hague for his eventuial execution?
November 17th, 2006 at 3:31 pmI think not. The only way that would happen is if Cheney had the stones and brains to march down to Patrick Fitzgerald’s office and show Fitzgerald that he, and not Rove, deserved to be given immunity — and give Fitzy the iron-clad dirt on Rove to prove it.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:33 pmBush without his “Brain”; what a scary thought.

Well, this kinda has to do with Rove.
Read this article!!
November 17th, 2006 at 3:36 pmBi-partisanshp from Bush is a load of stinking crap!
That son-of-a-bitch is tryng to have congress vote/revote on the dickhead extremists were opposed last year. Bi-partisanship from Bush, HA.
It is attack or be attacked, that is Bush’s way and we must rise up and smack his traitorius as back down to depth of hell.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:37 pmWithout his “Brain”, Bush’s speeches and press conferences will consist of him stuttering and stammering complete nonsense.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:39 pmWhat? That’s what he does now?
Oh. Well then, Rove’s usefulness now that the elections were held and the thumpin done is pretty much nil.
Rove leaving is good for the country, but probably bad for the Repugs.
Comment by Roger_Roger — November 17, 2006 @ 3:12 pm
Wow! Roger acknowledges that Republican interests are diametrically opposed to the interests of the country… what next Roger acknowledges that his interests are diametrically opposed to the interests of reasonable people?
November 17th, 2006 at 3:40 pmAll this nice talk of bipartisanship will go right down the tubes in January the second Dems take control fer realz. We just have to put up with it for a couple of months.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:40 pmoh yeah, Bush is showing his “bipartisanship” - by ripping on Dems while overseas in Asia… he has not and will not change… I hope this is true about Rove, but I doubt it…
November 17th, 2006 at 3:45 pmAfter the continual lies and innuendo of sleazy Dems and Progs, Karl knows it’s time to take a break and re-group. (Good news Progs - with all the “accomplishments” Dems are sure to rack up in the next two years - this ought to be ALOT of fun!)
November 17th, 2006 at 3:47 pmLooks like the rats are leaving the sinking ship that is the failed Bush administration and its failed policies. Good riddance.
November 17th, 2006 at 3:49 pm[…] Ah, I doubt it. […]
November 17th, 2006 at 3:49 pmwe should all be careful what we wish for….if Rove’s out of the West Wing that means he’s free to start planning campaigns for ‘08…

November 17th, 2006 at 3:52 pmI am not prepared to celebrate just yet. I am suspicious that a Rove-exit would simply be window-dressing for the President’s Born Again Bi-Partisanship. Bush/Cheney won’t change and they will always have a lifeline to Rove, even as Kissinger/Baker/Gates move in with a clean-up crew. This is image, not substance. The whole damn crowd decided to lie down with dogs in the Reagan Era. Is it any wonder they still have fleas?
November 17th, 2006 at 3:56 pmWow are you deluded. Care to join us back her eon earth?
November 17th, 2006 at 3:57 pmI’m so sorry to hear that Karl Rove may be packing his Paris or Milan designer luggage and moving on. I hope the handsome, leather, eight-piece luggage set looks nice for the departing pictures.
Maybe Karl will be taking a cruise with Rosie’s vacation company. BTW, it’s a very gay-friendly, cruise-oriented vacation company. Karl needs a well-deserved vacation for the Republicans splendid showing on November 7th. Keep up the good work, Karl.
No, Karl– ONE VOTE PLUS ONE VOTE DOES NOT EQUAL SIX VOTES. Either get with the program or get a new calculator. On second thought, it might be a good idea to get a new brain.
It sounds as if Harriet Miers is a vindictive Christian. OMG! OMG! OMG! Vindictiveness is not a good family value. This party is supposed to be about family values, too. Shame on you, Harriet.
Harriet would be much, much, much, much, much less vindictive if she had a good Ozzie in her life. You know–a husband.
Let’s see. Karl is single, and Harriet is single. This must be a match made in heaven. OMG! OMG! OMG! Ted Haggard can pronounce them man and wife.

November 17th, 2006 at 3:57 pmSo…is Rove going to the mystery acreage in Paraguay to help prepare for Bush’s frantic retreat from a war crimes tribunal in the Hague?
And what about Rove’s Medal of Freedom that Bush hands out like candy to his heckuvajob friends?
November 17th, 2006 at 3:57 pmLooks like roast, stuffed Turdblossom for Christmas.

November 17th, 2006 at 3:59 pmCheney’s next, just you watch. Can’t wait for that one to happen!!!!!!
November 17th, 2006 at 3:59 pmMighty, are you refering to the innuendo and sleaze that Rove pushed against McCain during the 2000 republican primaries? Or the swift boating of Kerry by Rove? Or Plame?
Karl has been in GW’s camp for so long there will be no regrouping. He is a political leper and won’t be touched by anyone with aspirations higher than local dog catcher.
You are right, it will be a lot of fun watching actual oversight (remember oversight?, didn’t think so). It will be hard work to just attempt to scrap through the sleaze that was oozed out by your friends DeLay, Cunningham, Hastert, and the gang but it’s about time to clean the house and the senate.
Besides, you’re so much better when you’re a whiny minority seeing how when the necons get the majority they crash and burn.
Outside looking in is sooooo much better for you (and the country).
November 17th, 2006 at 4:00 pmRove ain’t going nowhere. Bush couldn’t wipe his ass without him.

We are the greatest nation right?
I find it funny that Harriet only gave up Ralston to be vindictive and not out of any sense of duty. Can you believe Bush actually wanted her on the freakin’ Supreme Court?
Oh, can’t forget about Karl. So long Pig Face, we hardly knew ya’.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:06 pmYa gotta understand who the guy really is…. he is a schoolyard bully. PERIOD! All of his tactics were learned in grammar school - ALL OF THEM!
And about his special math???? Oh come on now! He didn’t finish his schooling becuase he probably thought he knew it all… especially statistics! If you don’t do that right, you are in a world of wrong. Some folks think that he did his “I have the math.” as a tactic to makes folks uneasy - it did me. I thought he knew something we should have known… from the press…. the PRESS…. not from the polls….. He had special polls? NOT! I assumed he had a pile of data that the rest of us plebeians didn’t have… WRONG! So, with that we now really understand how his ‘genius’ worked…. he was an ad man and nothing more…. he was an ad man without the tools, the real tools (thank goodness) of stats, math, and….. empathy…. the most important tool in politics.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:07 pmFor Rove and his buddies playing Politopoly: GO STRAIGHT TO JAIL - DO NOT COLLECT ANY MONEY
November 17th, 2006 at 4:08 pmA Rove ally, however, noted that he has a record of out-witting his critics.
It’s always about “winning” or “losing,” huh? Never about what’s best, or what is right, for the supposed leadership of this nation.
Turd blossom.
Turd, for short.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:10 pmJust remember, some of these people came out of Watergate from way back when (including Rove who was a low level scum back then if what I’ve heard is true) so be prepared for the next crop of scum to crawl back out from under their rocks in a few decades.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:10 pmYeah, Karl the jackal had the math like Bush had the Google.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:12 pmI dont’ believe it! A couple of days ago we had a story that Rove would stay put. He knows where the bones are buried. I’m inclined to believe that one. The only reason he would move on if there’s someone who wants a hired gun, assuming someone wants a gunslinger who can’t shoot straight, or shoots blanks.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:13 pmIt is possible with the coming democratic supena power Bush wants to save face and political “capital” for the republicans by making sure Rove is no longer in his administration when he is exposed.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:14 pm“his partisan style is a hurdle to President Bush’s new push for bipartisanship. ”
That is the funniest thing I’ve read in a long time. I think this is wishful thinking and Rove is going to be there for the long run.

Speaker Pelosi Tempts Disaster
Nancy Pelosi has managed to severely scar her leadership even before taking up the gavel as the new speaker of the House. First, she played politics with the leadership of the House Intelligence Committee to settle an old score and a new debt. And then she put herself in a lose-lose position by trying to force a badly tarnished ally, Representative John Murtha, on the incoming Democratic Congress as majority leader. The party caucus put a decisive end to that gambit yesterday, giving the No. 2 job to Steny Hoyer, a longtime Pelosi rival.
But Ms. Pelosi’s damage to herself was already done. The well-known shortcomings of Mr. Murtha were broadcast for all to see — from his quid-pro-quo addiction to moneyed lobbyists to the grainy government tape of his involvement in the Abscam scandal a generation ago. The resurrected tape — feasted upon by Pelosi enemies — shows how Mr. Murtha narrowly survived as an unindicted co-conspirator, admittedly tempted but finally rebuffing a bribe offer: “I’m not interested — at this point.â€
Mr. Murtha would have been a farcical presence in a leadership promising the cleanest Congress in history. Ms. Pelosi should have been first to realize this, having made such a fiery campaign sword of her vows to end Capitol corruption. Instead, she acted like some old-time precinct boss and lost the first test before her peers.

November 17th, 2006 at 4:21 pmThere is no way that I’m going to comment on a speculation before it becomes a fact. Oops. Too late.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:23 pmExley: Unlike the Dems, the Repubs DID elect an enormously corrupt speaker just a few years back, by the name of Tom Delay. Despite the House leadership CHANGING THE ETHICS RULES TO ACCOMODATE HIS IMMORAL ACTS, Delay has now been indicted because of his level of corruption. As you can see, again, the Democrats prove they are wiser, more honest, and ethical.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:25 pmRove won’t be going to South America.
Rove will sign a multimillion dollar book deal. One must remember that millions still idolize the guy. Yes, it’s hard to believe, but there’s a lot of things that are hard to believe.
The book will be pure fiction. It won’t mention his gay father, or Rove’s homosexuality. Reading about his good friend Jeff Gannon would be interesting as Jeff is a well-known gay escort.
One thing is certain: the book won’t mention Karl’s
hot dates with the opposite sex, because there’s no dates with the opposite sex.

November 17th, 2006 at 4:27 pmIf there’s any reality here, I see to possible scenarios:
One is that Bush is pissed. He’d been reassured and kissed up too, and didn’t see the massive losses coming. If Rove told Bush the same things he told the press (e.g., if Rove was saying the same things in private as in public), Bush has every right to be pissed - Rove blew it. If this is the case, though, I suspect he’ll make a lot of noise about firing Rove within the Whitehouse, but ultimately keep him on.
After all, you can’t live without your brain, even if it’s damaged.
The other possibility is that something is about to drop on Rove. Abramoff, things a Democratic Congress with subpeona power, who knows. We all know he’s got a few dirty secrets - if ones about to pop out, Rove will find a sudden urgency in spending more time with his family about a day and a half before it goes public.
November 17th, 2006 at 4:27 pmprobably so
November 17th, 2006 at 4:30 pmHey, Exley, just stopped by on my way out and saw your post. It reminds me of something Dave Barry used to say in his humor column shortly after Bill Clinton assumed the office of the Presidency and the media was picking on Clinton in the first couple of months. Anytime Dave mentioned Clinton in his column, he used the phrase “the failed Clinton administration.” Wayne and I always got a kick out of it.
Hate to post and run, but I have to. J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
November 17th, 2006 at 4:31 pm72. Delay wasn’t Speaker, he was majority whip. Although he did replace someone (forget his name) that was forced out. Delay wasn’t wanted as the majority whip at the time either but that’s been forgotten now that the repubs have to find something to piss and moan about.
Remember, the republican party is best when they are the minority. Their philosophies stand out more. When they get in power they show the democrats how to really kick up the debt, the redundant gov’t agencies and how not to keep checks and balances in place.
The Strong. The Small. The Republican Party.

And please rememING, absolutely nothing, without someone to feed him policy, and lines, who shapes his thinking … and who might that be? Why, Cheney, of course now that Rumsfeld is gone. Even Condy doesn’t get his ear much these days. So we’ll probably be hearing all kinds of nonsense coming out Bush’s mouth, as he has to rely on himself for most of what he says and does. He’s truly the puppet in charge, is my opinion, who sounds good when he has a speech written for him, and who tries to charm the people he’s with by being somewhat overbearing, by making a joke or two to cut you down, and then apparently talking frankly. If the Democrats play it right, they can now run rings around him; if not, he’ll continue the devastating policies that are ruining the country.

This is not the end of Karl. It’s just time to go work on another campaign! Where do we think he’s going?
Comment by budpaul — November 17, 2006 @ 3:12 pm
This comment is very astute!
At first I was in the camp that he’d stay for the duration because he’s intertwined in this power-grab agenda of the Administration.
However, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he turned up behind the frontrunner for the next skull-n-bones crony butt-boy republican presidential candidate.
The powers behind the power need those 2 years to indoctrinate and whip their “chosen one” into shape for the fight.
November 17th, 2006 at 5:26 pmDon’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out, Karl. (oh, and look out for a size ten in the backside too)
November 17th, 2006 at 5:26 pmBDS, how did Juan C’s comment lack compassion toward little ones? He obviously cares for them. It’s you - the enormous dumb shit, he’s cares nothing about.

So, how does this work? I want to stop this abortion/war so a lot of broken families, orphans, maimed children can have an opportunity at least to be aborted.
And you still support your president in this abortion war after 40 million innocents have died? Im not compassionate? How can you look at your kids with a straight face? You are a disgrace, like anyone who enjoys killing innocent children in the womb.

They’re PRO-DEATH once the “life” pop’s out of the mom’s womb and becomes a baby, a person, a teen, an adult. Republican nut-wingers

No, you’re the one who wants the government to make this illegal, so YOU tell US how it works. Is there a “baby-making” camp where women who don’t want to carry a baby to term are put like a concentration camp? Do Doctors go to jail and what’s the charge? Do mothers go to jail? Who takes care of the children they already have? Once you’ve forced a woman to have a baby against her will, do you help her take care of her new baby or is she out on the street? You tell us Mr. Big government man.
November 17th, 2006 at 7:41 pmAnd, BDS, why don’t you look into what your republican representatives have been doing in the Northern Marianas. Forced sex labor and forced abortions! Evidently, for people like Tom Delay, abortions are ok if you’re forcing a woman to have one.

November 17th, 2006 at 8:34 pmQuestion for Aphrodite and others who seem to be buggered by abortion (in the slim hope that wingnuts really understand science):
Background: The following is, in theory, perfectly scientificaly feasable. Suppose you mapped the genome of a healthy male human and a healthy female human on paper. That would be about 3.3 billion combinations of the ATCG bonds each. Suppose you split and recombined the male to the female’s genome (in a random fasion, as would occure in natural combination of sperm and ovum) and created a new map on paper of an individual who would be one-time unique in all time, space and mater. And, consider it impossible to replicate, due to the random nature of it’s DNA bond selections process.
question: Now, if one copy of that new and unique genome map (the blueprint that contains all the information required to create an individual, that could be (in theory) used to manipulate an actual zygote into an exact replication as indicated in the genome map) was printed out, in it’s complete volume of approximately 3.3 billion combinations, and then thrown on a fire, would that be murder?

The advisor said that Rove is aware of the situation, and that a departure might come in “weeks, not months.†A Rove ally, however, noted that he has a record of out-witting his critics. […]

>Juan, Juan you did not have to share that.
yes Juan did have to share that, hes carrying the train wreck you call a chain of logic to its ultimate absurd conclusion, much like # 173 did.
(Hooray # 173, I doubt you’ll get answer to that. We all know DNA is just, like, a trick by the devil to make us believe monkeys had butts3x with dinosaurs to make us.)
Your hipocrites, jesus would weep that you claim to follow his teachings.
That you blindly support those who kill so many living, breathing, feeling children, while weeping crocidile tears for unknowing, unthinking, unfeeling clumps of cells, is the furthest thing from being christian.
To call embryos “children” degrades what it means to be a child, of even what it means to be humans. Here are some things I think of when I think of what it means to be human:
Breathing.
Thinking.
Feeling pain.
Feeling fear.
Having emotional attachments.
Having limbs.
Having a sense of self-awareness.
These are things that make us human. Much more than just our raw physical form.
To claim a clump of cells smaller than a comma is “a child” truly degrades what i means to be human.
To equate destroying a non-sentient embryo/fetus with say, dropping a bomb that burns half a child’s body before causing her slow, painful death
As the fetus gets closer to ripening, it gets closer to resembling a child, but in my ideal world, access to abortion is so easy that late trimester abortions are almost nonexistent. I say, if someone wants to get an abortion, make sure they are able to do it as soon as possible, before the thing starts gaining any semblance of humanity.
Honestly Brain Damaged Sydrome, take those two nice, most likely healthy, most likely white babies you adopted and crawl back under the rock from which you came.
Sometimes life ISNT such a beautiful choice, and until you types are willing to accept ALL the consequences of unleashing a huge horde of unwanted children onto this world, just leave the rhetoric for your bible study circle jerks and leave the rest of us alone.
And stop being so selective about which “children” its importantant not to kill. If faced with the choice, I choose NOT to kill the child thats going to scream, twitch, and writhe around in agony on the floor before it expires.
If you think your dear lord Jesus would want to be more concerned about cells in a petri dish, or an embryo that is never self aware, well, more jesus to ya,

November 18th, 2006 at 2:49 amRepublican Party wants to see abortions continue.
Without abortion as an issue, prospects for the Republican Party would be gloomy; non-existent.
Christian Democrats support all the things that will result in reducing the number of abortions by reducing the demand for abortions: family planning, teen pregnancy prevention and adoption law reform.
Many Republicans candidates apply the Pro-Life tag to themselves, and hope voters don’t look too close. Conservative Pro-Lifers also automatically assume that Democrats are the pro-abortion party. But as recent history tells us, it’s all part of The Republican Big Lie.
Repubs have profited greatly from abortions, and their party has no interest in seeing them end. Consider that the Republican Party won the 1968 presidential election by cobbling together an unlikely alliance between the Republican Party’s traditional business interests and white southerners opposed to civil rights.
The Republican Party encourages Pro-Life voters to blame the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision on Democrats. The Republican Party never points out that five of the seven justices in the majority in Roe v. Wade were Republicans; of the two justices who dissented, one was a Republican, one a Democrat.
When George Bush Jr. was campaigning for president in 2000, one of his promises was that, if elected, he would not seek to overturn Roe v. Wade. Does that sound Pro-Life?
This Republican Supreme Court that was willing to steal the election for Bush has not taken one step toward overturning Roe v. Wade. Why? because future Republican electoral interests would likely be adversely affected. Without the promise to overturn Roe v. Wade as bait, why would Christians vote for a Republican?
Why do Pro-Life voters continue to fall for the Republican Big Lie? Because Democrats have been put on the defensive. A person who supports a Democrat with a sign, a bumper sticker, or a letter to the editor will be vilified by Republican attack dogs. Anyone who points out a poor decision by a Republican lawmaker can count on a Republican attempting to justify it by using the abortion card. Suggest that a Republican candidate is unqualified by reason of inexperience or lack of leadership and the response will be immediate: “But he’s 100% Pro-Life.”
Even those in the Pro-Life camp are unable to agree on what that label means. Does it mean no exceptions for the life and health of the mother? Does it include an exception for rape or incest? How about use of birth control that may work by preventing the implantation of a fertilized egg—a zygote, not a fetus? How about non-surgical abortions? How about abortions performed to save some embryos when a woman has a multiple pregnancy because of fertility treatments?
Rarely do Republican policy makers support things that would make abortions unnecessary, like birth control. If women refused to choose, if they insisted on keeping both their lives and bodies intact, what changes would their communities have to make? What would make abortion unnecessary? Flexible school situations, more flex-time, part-time, and home-commute jobs, attractive adoption opportunities, safe family planning choices, support in handling sex responsibly: this is a partial list. A list like that is a rarity in Republican circles.
One could add a welfare system that doesn’t force a woman to choose between having a baby and keeping a job. Republican politicians are fond of talking about the “tough love” represented by their cuts to the welfare system. They forget that “tough love” often results in an abortion.
I am a Christian and will continue the effort to educate those I worship and pray they seek greater discernment regarding some who suffer mis-led christian, and expose the false and hateful teachings of a few that have hijacked chrisitianity for the sake of political gain. They are not followers of the love Christ teaches.
November 18th, 2006 at 3:36 amDon’t bother celebrating Rove’s departure. The bright little rats know the jig is up and are going to scurry into the woodwork in time to leave Bush holding the bag. This is the same thing that Rumsfeld did under Nixon. Once Nixon’s downfall was inevitable, Rumsfeld finagled himself an ambassadorship and left the country. Six Months later, once things had blown over, he came back like a bad case of crotch itch and served as Ford’s Transition Chairman and eventually as his Chief of Staff.
November 18th, 2006 at 4:22 amLeftcoast, excellent post!
On Karl Rove. IMHO the president said it all in his first press conference after the elections. He said something like “…maybe I have been working harder on the campaign trail, than he (Karl Rove) has…”
It was not so much the words that took me by surprise, than the tone of voice and the look in his eyes. Taken together with the four page “Time” article, which read to me like an obituary on Karl Rove, I suspected that he wouldn’t last much longer in his job. Maybe one can add the rumours that Abramoff has something to say to the prosecutors.
Given the President’s tendency to negate any relationship with people who have gotten themselves into trouble I do think Mr Rove’s days are numbered.
One question off topic:
Does anybody know where Condoleeza Rice has disappeared to? I have’t seen or heard a word from or about her since the elections and she was so prominently campaigning.
