Didn’t Clear Channel sponser this?
November 17th, 2006 at 12:15 pmDoesn’t that raise some caution flags?
I don’t know anything about Mr. Belville, but he has to earn his stripes with a lot of people before he can be called a ‘New Progressive’.
Shouldn’t one’s show have to earn it’s slot?
I’m all for more progs on the airwaves, but this is weird.
Anyone?
Russ is definitely a progressive. I used to read his blog when he was maintaining it. I think you’re a little too paranoid for your own good…
November 17th, 2006 at 12:19 pmThanks,
November 17th, 2006 at 12:32 pmYou’re probably right.
I’ve never heard the man speak.
I’m not paranoid, but everyone is out to get me!
I’m sure his show could be successful, as long as it could be heavily subsidized by the government.
November 17th, 2006 at 12:33 pmRuss is a great guy - and a blogger. Check out some of his stuff over at Pam’s House Blend.
Clear Channel did sponsor the contest - good for them I say. They’re seeing that there’s money to be made in Progressive Talk!
November 17th, 2006 at 12:36 pmHe sure seems happy about that cow pie on his head (hiding some deficiency, no doubt).
November 17th, 2006 at 1:12 pmI have known Russ since 1988. He has always been outspoken and a born performer. Russ has long fought for reform of drug laws and has been a liberal/progressive as long as I have known him. He was born and raised in Idaho and luckily that didn’t cause him any harm! Congrats to him!
November 17th, 2006 at 1:12 pmHe looks more than a bit like Moe from the Three Stooges, but I can vouch that he is also a true progressive and is not an infiltrator or troll or anything.
November 17th, 2006 at 1:16 pmRadical Russ! That has a nice ring to it. I believe KPOJ also carries Thomm Hartmann, another straight thinker.
November 17th, 2006 at 1:48 pmZimzone,
November 17th, 2006 at 3:13 pmClear Channel has one goal, making money. There have always been two halves of the now-dying Republican wave. The true believers, and those who got rich from counting on the stupidity of the true believers. Clear Channel was part of the latter. As soon as taking advantage of this nation’s stupid started to become less profitable, they had to move on.
Good luck “Radical” Russ - Mybe you’ll have more radio longevity than previous lib talkers. A tip - Lose the brown beret - red is very appropriate progressive “talk show” chic….
November 17th, 2006 at 4:11 pmHe sure seems happy about that cow pie on his head (hiding some deficiency, no doubt).
Nailed it! There is far less hair on the top of my head than on the sides. You’ve uncovered my great secret - male pattern baldness, vanity, and a desire for a warm and dry head in rainy DC weather.
As for Clear Channel: Progressive talk radio is the fastest growing segment of radio programming. They are a business, first and foremost, and progressive talk makes profit. Portland’s KPOJ went from #23 to #1 when it switched to an Air America / Jones Radio Network format. Yes, it is “little Beirut”, but there are other success stories out there.
There have also been a lot of mistakes, but remember, Rome and the right-wing radio infrastructure weren’t built in a day. We’re what, two or three years into this and we’ve only just now gotten into power politically. The best is yet to come.
My show will be in development and will debut sometime next Spring on the weekends. It’s going to be progressive talk for the common man, one regular working class guy talking about the issues, both political and social.
OK, maybe not so “regular”. Regular people don’t wear cow pies on their head.
November 18th, 2006 at 12:53 amI’ve been familar with ole “R”R for more than a decade now, and he’s a clear thinker, a great writer, a lucid voice for us progressive types, and an entertaining sumbitch to boot. He’s seen a little of everything and done most all of it, and he’s honest about it, which already puts him ahead of the blowhards currently fouling the airwaves.
I’m gettin all tingly thinking about it!
November 18th, 2006 at 9:09 amHaven’t I read here hundreds of times that talk radio is so nineteenth century? So what’s the point? I thought no one listened to talk radio.
November 26th, 2006 at 9:04 pmCongrats. What and where does the show start?
And RadMan, you can contact me directly to be a contributor…
