re: #94 The Military Industrial Complex

War Monger? I don't believe in sending people to fight illegal wars based on a pack of oil and war profiteering motivated Republican lies. I also don't believe in sending people to do a job I'm not willing to do myself which is obviously what you advocate...which is why the quote from a Few Good Men. I'm sure you watch alot of TV so it seemed to fit you. If you support a war in Iraq, go join the military and get your Sony Playstation butt over there and fight it. And whats with the bold text? Do you believe your inane ramblings need to be highlighted?

Since you didn't appreciate my quote from a Few Good Men, here's one that might penetrate your video game brain.

President of the United States (and former General of the Army) Dwight D. Eisenhower later used the term in his Farewell Address to the Nation on January 17, 1961:

"A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction...

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence — economic, political, even spiritual — is felt in every city, every statehouse, every office of the federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together."

RE: Post # 93 by ProgressiveKen "You’re just another armchair quarterback ready to committ troops to kill or die for an unjust war."

Is THAT the best YOU can do, Mr. Kah-nukkel-dragger Warmonger?

Man, you REALLY are CONFUSED!

Every forward-thinking Progressive should be taking to the ramparts to passively, and most non-confrontationally, manifest an aggressive war for peace, commending overt violence to the retrograde, and unevolved Morlochs of the neo-con movement who over compensate for their "shortcomings" by always wanting to play with very big guns and bombs and such.

That you have to pull a quote from a fictional character and not from one of your icons of violence like Patton or MacArthur leads me to believe that you are limited as to your intellect and grasp of history as well as manifesting a rampant and unchecked confusion.

Perhaps, in your attempt to chase the record for HALO jumping, you "pulled low" with only a yard separating you from the tarmac and did a hellacious face-plant, scrambling your dome. The after-effects of this being evidenced in your posts

In which case, you should be shown gentle consideration for your limitations and afflictions rather than due derision and mockery.

Well if had ever served a single day in the military you'd know where I got the term "5 Jump Chump" from. Which to me means you've never put your ass on the line for anything. You're just another armchair quarterback ready to committ troops to kill or die for an unjust war.

If the people of China are thrilled about 9/11 does that mean we go invade China next? I don't need to show you love. I think you're a full of shit coward otherwise you'd be in Iraq right now getting your ass shot off in support of a phony war instead of the brothers and sisters that I served with.

"You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to." - Col Jessup, a Few Good Men

“The U.S. military called no witnesses, withheld evidence from detainees and usually reached a decision within a day as it determined that hundreds of men detained at Guantanamo Bay were ‘enemy combatants,’ according to a new report.”

I want to see Exley's response to this. Along with Bush, he thinks it's just fine and dandy if other countries adopt this policy in their treatment of captured U.S. personnel.

What did Iraq have to do with 9/11? What did the 650,000 dead Iraqi’s have to do with 9/11? Should we now go invade China because of 9/11? You gonna blame the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus for 9/11 too?

Yes, America asked for this: we just didn’t show the Iraqis and Iranians enough love. Instead we act like the ugly, yankee, infidel pig dogs that we are.

Over 3,000 people died on 11 September. So what…because we REFUSED to bow down immediately and accept allah and his seven passing winds, and, instead, tried to retaliate, we now are caught in a quagmire, right?

Winning things is an outdated concept anyway, we need to be more of a mind of “sharing” a victory with our opposition, because who are WE to want to hoard all that victory to ourselves? Progressives should be more open about cheering when a victory-sharing moment occurs like a suicide bombing or an IED explosion. So an American soldier dies…they’re only puppets of Bushitler who deserve what’s coming to them for being imperialist yankee infidel invaders, right?

In fact, WHY should America have armed forces anyway? Nobody loves a bully, right?

Progressives should rally around the idea of forming a federal Department of Peace just so that the world will like America better, right?

Who could disagree with that?

re: #3 The reason the Democrats won the midterms

Hey all. Sorry to change topic but this website will never show you the left-wingnut hypocrisy that exists. You good buddy Sen. John Edwards (wanna-be vice president, remember?) was all anti Walmart but he was just found buying a Playstation 3 from where? . . . You guessed it – WalMart!

Comment by Happy Guy — November 17, 2006 @ 9:13 am

This clown Happy Guy has been spamming several different threads with the above mentioned trival nonsense.

650,000 dead Iraqis, thousands of dead, maimed, mentally disturbed US soldiers, and Trillions of squandered US tax dollars later all this fool can say is that Edwards bought a Sony Playstation 3 at Walmart...Is this somehow supposed to trump the mass murder and mass corruption the Republicans are complicit in? Happy, do you actually believe that buying a sony playstation 3 at Walmart is equal to REPUBLICAN SPONSORED MASS MURDER, RAPE TORTURE, THEFT, FRAUD, and MONEY LAUNDERING?

Thats allright, not everyone recognizes genius their first time around.

But I'm always willing to discuss politics/economics/whatever, just like I'm always willing to take the easy joke.

Tundra,
Sure its there would be problems like that, But we have that now. We are taking their land for our bases, embassy/fortress, etc. The Iraq situation is inherently imperfect. It was started for the wrong reasons and continues on for the wrong reasons. My idea is not perfect but it could be worked on by others to provide some viable plan.

Squeeg,
I didn't bring it up to show how cold and callous you are. I mostly disagree with you but sometimes you have ideas that I agree with. Talking back and forth from opposing directions sometimes can create good ideas. We need that to happen more.

Overall sure but the complaints will just be:

1) But what about their homes? They have places they live and we are forcing them into tent cities to live under our rule.

2) What about those without a car that can't get to the green zone, it just goes to show that Bush Co doesn't care about the poor in Iraq either.

3) Here is a link to a story where a person was raped in the green zone, where were the guards? Bush and his cronies are failing to protect those that ask for help

4) We have claimed land in Iraq, what right do we have to go there and take their land, of course they will hate us? ReThugs like you blah blah

They can stay and we will provide them with protection and food. We will pay for it all. We will protect them indefinately until the Iraqi government gets it together. That is my solution. No raids, no patrolling just big huge refugee camps.

Well, I hate to say it, but sounds good to me, you could even train the police and armies in the camps, send them out on missions to nearby towns/cities, and when they come back force them to forefit all their military gear before entering, but something tells me there is 0 political viablity for such a plan, and that you prob. brought it up to show how cold and callous I am, or some other such adjectives.

So we should send more troops to Iraq, set up curfews, and sweep house by house, arresting anyone suspicious, to do anything less, would be ignoring our duty to protect people?

Comment by squegeeboo

I'll tell you what. We should set up say 50 or more Green Zones around Baghdad and other cities. Allow anyone to come in. They can stay and we will provide them with protection and food. We will pay for it all. We will protect them indefinately until the Iraqi government gets it together. That is my solution. No raids, no patrolling just big huge refugee camps. Then we can do what we could do in Darfur. Protect people that ask for it.

Now, can we move on to the most important issue of the day: OJ’s not so confession confession?

Found Not Guilty by a jury of his peers

when you can positively protect specific groups of people from getting butchered then you must try and do it.
Positively is a strong word,

What if the U.N Doesn't say so? What if everyone in Africa is demanding the U.S mind it's own business and respect their rights to govern themselves? What if noone else wants us there?
