Homophobes need apply.

By Nico Pitney on Nov 20th, 2006 at 11:11 am

Homophobes need apply.

“Conservative Christian groups have begun an intensive lobbying campaign against a new questionnaire for prospective high-level gubernatorial appointees” in Florida. The questionnaire “asks the would-be appointees if they have ever been the subject of a complaint or investigation for discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender, race, religion or national origin. The groups want sexual orientation removed from the list.”

  1. Zooey says:

Ah, I see how they’re going at this thing, and it really doesn’t make sense. If they left the questionnaire as it is, it would be excellent for spotting “the gays.”

  2. wags says:

of course, why wouldn’t we want to discriminate against homosexuals? i mean this is florida after all.

the conservative ‘christian’ groups are already good enough at it, why institutionalize it and make it official?

So, if you have ever been the subject of a complaint or investigation for discrimination based on sexual orientation, you now get a pass?
They might as well add this exemption:
Please remove the “if you have ever been accused of soliciting immoral behavior from a minor in the last year” question, as well as the “have you ever been accused of illegal drug accusation from a male prostitute but never really had any type of skin on skin contact”

  4. dlet says:

Gays….the new blacks for Conservatives. They will always find some group to hate. It moves them…from the gut. If they really want to remove something they should remove “Christian” from their group names. It would be more realistic since the don’t follow the teachings of the person they follow.

  5. Theobromos says:

Are the Radical Khristians fearful of none of their flock eligible for office?
(Remember what DeLay tried to pull, keeping his job despite being indited?)
Maybe the R.K. have someone in particular they see running in Florida (or having run, who took over from Jebya, any way?)

  6. DRxJ says:

    DOH!

  7. SFBrianCL says:

Umm, I hope Gov-elect Crist doesn’t get into gay-bashing. that man has plenty of his own skeletons

  8. Paul says:

What they want the Governor’s appointees to be able to discriminate against the Governor? Does Charlie Crist approve?

  9. Anon1 says:

They’ve got theiir Bible shoved so far up their asses they can’t think straight. Freakin’ bigots!

  10. Prup (aka Jim Benton) says:

First, in your daily newsletter, you repeatedly referred to Crist as “Christ.’ He may actually be that oddity, a decent Republican, but he ain’t THAT good.

More seriously, given the fact that he was repeatedly outed in the campaign, perhaps he is actually taking a gay-positive stand here, for which he deserves praise. (SFBrianCL, please READ the post. You too, Paul. The person objecting is a classic homophobe who is arguing AGAINST the Governor’s position.)

  11. Daryll says:

This issue needs to remain on the form. Everyone must be treated equally regardless of sexual orientation, but Republicans must understand that we have the bible to set these unrighteous individuals straight.

  12. dlet says:

Are you proposing to beat gays with bibles? If you are talking about using the written words, good luck. There are so many contradictions that anyone can come up with a different interpretation on anyhing if they want to. The bible can be used as one big source of sound bites.

  13. labdad says:

What is up with the Christian preoccupation with sex? It’s unbelievable. It seems that’s all they think of.

  14. Daryll says:

I propose to give them the sharp word of god. It’s equal to a two-edged sword. All laws in the bible, especially the New Testament, are comprehendible laws. Please refrain from using your ignorance.

It’s a serious problem that deems a resolution. Homosexuality is morally wrong.

I personally believe that it is the “I can’t get any, so shall no one” syndrome.

And they hate themselves for it. They not only think about the nasty sex they’re having, they think about all the nasty sex everyone else might be having.

Isn’t that right, Daryll? How do you find time for Bible School?

Yeah, like fish good, shrimp/lobster really, really bad (Lev 11:10). Comprehendible, yes. Sensible or logical? Not really.

If you’re married, you shouldn’t have a problem. If not, you shouldn’t be so called “Getting Any”. That’s called fornication.

  20. DRxJ says:

    Daryll,
you seem preoccupied with the “sins of homosexuality”. In fact, you seem too preoccupied with that, in an uncomfortable, Haggert and Foley, sort of way.
Aren’t there other sins to be concerned with:
such as the CEO who milks millions of shares, raiding the 401K’s of honest workers. Isn’t that stealing? Isn’t that one of the ten commandments?
or how about the slaughter of 600,000 innocent civilians? Isn’t that a direct violation of “THOU SHALL NOT KILL”?
Your concerns seem misplaced, and your Christian values seem misguided.
Try attending a Church that teaches you to think, not be brain washed!

  21. DRxJ says:

If you’re married, you shouldn’t have a problem.
No offense, daryll, but I never had a problem before, or now, during marriage.

you shouldn’t be so called “Getting Any”

dude, I’m married! Oh never mind, you probably don’t see the humour in that one!

I find time for Jesus Eeeeeeeerrrrrrrrvery day!! I never have an idol mind because I have a congested schedule, and I can’t disappoint Jesus. How about you? I’m sick and tired of you liberals bringing this message, “Jesus preached love, that’s it”. You’re liars that shall have your parts in the lake that consists of fire and brimstone. There’s more to the bible than love, there are standards.

Hell is waiting for Ken Lay. Also, those 600,000 civilians were slaughtered incidentally. Hey, it’s a part of war. Sometimes you have to sacrifice for freedom/liberation. Didn’t are forefathers utilize this method?

  24. Zooey says:

I never have an idol mind…

Daryll, you will never understand the irony of that statement.

I can’t disappoint Jesus. How about you?

You must have a tattoo of Jesus on your hand. I don’t.

I’m sick and tired of you liberals bringing this message, “Jesus preached love, that’s it”.

I never said that, but it’s true.

We shall see if I burn, won’t we? I’m prepared to live in this world as best I can and accept the consequences of my actions — are you, Daryll?

The greatest thing the bible has to offer is love.

You’re right, Daryll, there are standards, which is why it will always be just you and your hand.

    ROTFL!!

    Wars existed in the bible.

So does incest, murder, poligamy and other juicy stuff. Which of those are you okay with also?

    Comment by Daryll

Would I be preparing for damnation because I think the bible offers love?

There is no damnation, Daryll. Only the fear and misery of your own making right here on this physical plane.

You can change that, just be it.

  29. Zooey says:

    Daryll,

It’s been fun, but I gotta go.

I’ll save you a seat next to me in hell — on the side closest to the fire.

Wait one second here. Zooey is going to Hades because you “polish the bishop” on a regular basis? That don’t make no sense, daryll dude.

One stat for ya, Saint Daryll. 99% of men “scruff their carrot”, the other 1% LIE!

#15 Being an ignorant inbred redneck is morally wrong. So, there is my opinion. Yours carries no more weight than mine. So, what the hell are YOU going to do about it?

  35. JPark says:

If you’re married, you shouldn’t have a problem. If not, you shouldn’t be so called “Getting Any”. That’s called fornication.

Oh, you are certainly not married. If everybody got married we would die out as a race. Women are not exactly forthcoming (yeah, I said it) after they get the ring. Isn’t that the argument you neanderthals have against gay marriage? No procreation?

  36. JPark says:

You’re liars that shall have your parts in the lake that consists of fire and brimstone

You really belong on the short bus. Jesus never said a thing about fire and brimstone, eye for an eye, or retribution. Are you a Christian or a Jew? Cause, you know, it is the Jews that follow the Old Testement, not Christians.

  37. Zooey says:

Hey JPark, long time no see.

    Nice thread, eh?

  38. JPark says:

I was sick of politics for awhile Zooey. Too many ads. Hypocritical Christians always make for an interesting thread.

  39. Zooey says:

I really don’t blame you for being sick of politics. You missed us too much, didn’t you? We have that effect on people. :)

Yesterday Daryll called me a blasphemer. Yep, I consider it an honor.

  40. JPark says:

Not a blasphemer!!!! Darryl is too stupid to understand that if there was a god, it would damn him to the deepest hells for being such an ignorant pig.

  41. JPark says:

And of course I missed you all :) I can’t stay away!

  42. Zooey says:

Next time Daryll shows up, you should try to get him to call you a blasphemer. As far as I know only Briseadh na Faire and I are on the list, on TP anyway, so it’s pretty exclusive. :)

  43. JPark says:

LOL, thanks Zooey, I am good at blaspheming. I will give it a shot. God is a self-concious little pansy.

  44. JPark says:

That wasn’t the best I can do either Daryll. Would you like to hear me denigrate your god?

  45. Jay Randal says:

They did this because their new Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist, is a closeted hypocrite homosexual, just like Ted Haggard, who hires male escorts for sex whenever he cannot fool a young Republican to do him!

  46. Leslie Pool says:

Christian fundamentalist groups consider such questions counter productive, as ‎the majority of their homophobic flocks are closeted homosexuals.

  47. NoMoreRepublicanTrash says:

    Daryll: SHUT UP BITCH.
