“State psychiatric hospitals will begin turning away new patients on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, in response to emergency budget cuts issued earlier this month by Gov. Mitt Romney,” the AP reports. “The cuts will force the elimination of 170 Department of Mental Health staff positions, including staffers who provide care to hundreds of emotionally disturbed children and teens.”
Mitt Glove…Worst Person In the World!!!
November 21st, 2006 at 10:08 amSo if he’s not railing against gays he turning away ill people from getting the help they need. Classy guy; he’ll fit right in as a GOP nominee for prez.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:12 amAmerica’s Least Wanted
#1 – Absolutely. This is the worst possible time for this to happen — as if there’s a better time, there’s not.
This guy wants to be president. Who is he trying to impress with this one?
November 21st, 2006 at 10:13 amI can’t wait for Deval Patrick to take over.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:14 amBuh-Bye, Mitt.
In what state is this occurring. The post doesn’t say. I don’t think TP should rely on people recognizing the name Mitt Romney. TP should be more clear.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:16 amI thought healthcare was supposed to be his *big* issue
November 21st, 2006 at 10:17 amSo he wants health care for everyone BUT mental patients?
#5,
November 21st, 2006 at 10:19 amread the link.
It’s MA.
now that is what you want in your gubner, compassion!
another mormon in denial. Mormon’s religion is rather compromised by reality, and there is some thought that it makes it’s users unstable due to conflicts in behavior considered perversion by their neighbors, but considered normal by the church
why would we ever want to elect someone with religious values? All religious values compromise the basic tenets of humanity
November 21st, 2006 at 10:20 amSO WHAT! THEY’RE ONLY PEOPLE…………..NOW IF IT IMPACTED FAT CAT CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS, THAT WOULD BE UNACCEPTABLE! SO TYPICAL OF CHRISTIAN REPUBLICAN VALUES.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:22 amI’d like to hear about the questionaire for prospective appointees Romney’s passing around………….
November 21st, 2006 at 10:24 amHey don’t blame him too much, they need more crazies on the street, after all who would vote (R) except those crazy, rich, stupid, or brainwashed by Jebus?
What kind of sick society do we live in when you have “Sex Offender Databases” so you can check if one is in your neighborhood? Why are these freaks walking around free?
November 21st, 2006 at 10:25 amNo matter where this is it is dreadful…..The worst time’s for depression and mental health issues are in the winter months and holiday’s….Just when they are needed most a neo-con eliminates a needed service…Blessings, we need them.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:25 amIt’s all just a ploy by Mitt Romney.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:26 amWatch him start eating jelly beans and sucking on ketchup packets next.
He’s obviously positioning himself as the next “Reagan Republicon”.
Mitt Romney is a mean SOB, and I hope somehow he gets sent to prison for his vile actions, plus he is an extreme homophobe as well!
November 21st, 2006 at 10:26 amWow!
Nice Thanksgiving present for all mentally ill residents of MA.
The State & Mitt should be sued for this. Seriously.
This is one area the Feds have actually funded better than most.
Remember the saying, ‘Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine’?
Unfortunately, mentally ill people are not in a position to do this.
Think of it.
Homeless just in time for Thanksgiving from the State that held the very first Thanksgiving! Ironic? No, just pathetic.
Folks, this is the priviliged asshole who wants to be your next president!
Looks like he’ll leave the incoming Governor a mess, just like all the GOPerverts will do the new Dems.
I said it before, these guys could f*ck up free beer.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:26 amHopefully Daryll, Roger_Roger and jigga have already been admitted or don’t live in Mass.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:26 amIf this is compassion, I wouldn’t want to see what Romney considers hatred…
‘ve been saying this for years — anyone who knows that actions speak louder than words doesn’t have to look too hard to realize that the phrase “compassionate conservatism” is by and large an oxymoron!
November 21st, 2006 at 10:27 amAnother compassionate conservative.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:28 amRomney is going to meet opposition from some because of his Mormonism beliefs, and now he will meet opposition from many others because of this cold-blooded move.
Good – I am glad to see him in trouble, but I hate that it is at the expense of people in need.
Isn’t the holiday time of year when people with mental illnesses suffer even more than at any other time?
With so much $$ being squandered in fighting this stupid war of choice, the benefit that could have been provided to American citizens is even more glaring. Every domestic program is suffering, from infrastructure to education to health care — we don’t need to go into debt to improve those programs, but just spending the money that has been wasted in Iraq would have gone a long way.
Republican priorities are selfish, greedy and cold.
Did you folks know his wife has MS?
You’d think he’d be for stem cell research.
Of course he’s not.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:34 amAnother Reagan wanna be. Look for more homeless people coming your way in Mass.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:36 am#19, trueblue
November 21st, 2006 at 10:43 amI did not know his wife has MS.
Yet he opposes stem cell research – he must be a husband of the same ilk as Newt Gingrich — fine upstanding husbands, family values and all.
Here is a chance for Sen. Ted Kennedy to redeem himself. Ted needs to fly out of DC back to Mass and punch Mitt’s lights out in front of the press. Mitt the soon to be ex-Governor is taking out revenge on the mentally ill as he leaves office and leaving them to suffer before the Holiday season begins. Mitt gets the Scrooge award for this century!
November 21st, 2006 at 10:44 amAs a resident of Massachusetts, I am so glad to say : Good Riddance to Mitt Romney and Kerry Healey. And I welcome Deval Patrick as our next governor.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:52 amJay Randal,
I would think Teddy’s already here – Thanksgiving in Hyannisport, probably.
It’s a good idea. I agree.
Marie,
November 21st, 2006 at 10:53 amYep, poor woman.
I can’t believe he’ actually thinking of running because the stress of the campaign trail would make her MS worse.
Nice guy.
How Republican! They’re the liars, crooks and cheats and the poor, mentally unstable children suffer…it figures. It’s not only their main objective in life – it’s who these people really are! Misanthropes, predator protectors, bigots, & thieves.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:55 amI can’t believe he’ actually thinking of running because the stress of the campaign trail would make her MS worse.
Nice guy.

He’ll probably say his wife wouldn’t have it any other way. And that she opposes stem cell research. Wanker.
He knows he’s so pretty he can find a newer model wife. :P
November 21st, 2006 at 10:55 amAs Governor he made everyone obtain universal health insurance so why are the mentally ill not covered?
Obviously we have another compassionate conservative that is only interested in making money for big business.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:56 amThe same thing happened in the 80’s in Arizona, and there was a class action suit, the state lost, but enforcement is the challenge.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:58 amI will miss his Ken-Doll sincere smile and his Shoe-Polish Black hair. *sarcasm off, now*
November 21st, 2006 at 10:58 amFools on the Hill,
It hasn’t been enacted yet.
(at least not that I know of…)
Where the heck is my universal healthcare?!
November 21st, 2006 at 11:02 am;)
More money for defense and big business, less money and means for people!
November 21st, 2006 at 11:02 amYou’re right, Zooey.
November 21st, 2006 at 11:03 amShe probably would say that.
And he is a wanker!
So this guy Romney is on his way out?
November 21st, 2006 at 11:07 amShe probably would say that.
And he is a wanker!
Comment by trueblue
The LDS raise their women “right.”
November 21st, 2006 at 11:07 amWaterboard Mitt untill he admits he is a closeted hypocrite wanker!
November 21st, 2006 at 11:10 amAs a retiree who can (for now) afford to pay our monthly medical premiums and co-pays, I am livid that a part of our money goes to LDS-owned companies and a part of that will end up in the campaign coffers for Romney’s run for POTUS.
November 21st, 2006 at 11:10 amWhy should we be surprised? Conservatives only care for people with money.
November 21st, 2006 at 11:13 amSounds like he took a page from Regan’s book. Same thing happened in California in the late 60’s when Ronnie was Gov.
November 21st, 2006 at 11:15 amAccording to Cavutu…if the pinguins shown that they cannot find fish to eat in the movie, then it has to be an Al Gore and liberal conspiracy.
November 21st, 2006 at 11:21 amWhat a dick.
November 21st, 2006 at 12:18 pmWho’s the bigger dick:
A) The Govenor for cutting 1.1% of the Department of Mental Health’s budget, which *even after* the 1.1% cut had a F/Y 2007 budget that significantly exceeded F/Y 2006
or
B) the Department of Mental Health frontpaging that 1.1% cut by closing its doors to new patients rather than paring back some less spectacular costs.
November 21st, 2006 at 12:27 pmHe’s also cut the scheduled $10 per WEEK raise to social workers, who al already some of the lowest paid workers in the state. Mr. “tough guy” when it doesn’t matter (he too scared to run for re-election), “deer in the headlights” when in counts is just an empty suit.
November 21st, 2006 at 12:34 pmMaybe he is showing the Grand Old Perverts he can be like Bush
Romney ‘08 for pres
What scum.
November 21st, 2006 at 1:08 pmThey’re obviously going for the “faith-based” approach here.
November 21st, 2006 at 6:05 pmMitt is an A-hole. This jerk signed the 2007 budget 4 months ago, with this money in the budget. Then when the legislature goes on break he vetoes money for the department of mental health. But this f’n jerkoff also cuts funding for homeless shelters, he cuts 333 beds in the WINTER for homeless people! Now since the legislature is on break this a-hole is the only one that can restore any of the cuts.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:02 pm#12 is right. Not only is it a time of depression (actually a year ’round phenomenon) but Thanksgiving and the December holidays are times when families realize that Uncle Joe or Aunt Jane or cousin Anna, who they haven’t seen in months/years, is in rough shape and needs some help.
“There but for the grace of God, go I.”
- Former staffer in a Psych Out Patient Dept, where the phones would ring off the hook after these holidays and Psych Emergency was very busy place. I seem to recall even some Mormons needed help, because “religion based” healing doesn’t do much for SADD or schizophrenia.
