The #1 movie in the country, the animated film “Happy Feet,” is “an entertaining story about a young bird’s journey toward self-acceptance.” But to Fox News’ Neil Cavuto it’s insidious “far left” political propaganda.
Cavuto saw the movie with his sons and found it “offensive.” Cavuto objected to the fact that penguins in the movie have trouble finding food because of overfishing and oil drilling. Cavuto called the film “an animated ‘Inconvenient Truth.’ I half expected to see an animated version of Al Gore pop-up.” Watch it:
Cavuto is objecting to introducing children to a real problem. A recent study in Science found “There will be virtually nothing left to fish from the seas by the middle of the century if current trends continue.”

Transcript:
CUVUTO: Well, those cute little penguins in “Happy Feet,” winning at the box office, earning more than $42 million. In the movie the penguins are starving, the fish are all gone and it’s clear human and big buisness are to blame. Is Hollywood using kid’s films to promote a far left message. Entertainment critic Holly McClure says “Yes, and it’s wrong.” Holly, so you though it was over the top?
MCCLURE: Well, I did, Neil. I tell you, I went watching this movie saying Ok, great, a light-harded fun film — love these animated pictures. And it’s interesting how realistic it looks. You get in there and you’re enjoying all the fun and frivolity and, yes, it’s a takeoff of the penguin documentary. And then along comes the subtle messages. One by one they come in. I felt like i was watching “Dirty Dancing” penguin-style. You know, the preaching against tap dancing and being liberal and stay conformed. And then it started to get into the other messages. Yes, we had that plastic ring around one of the penguin’s neck.
CUVUTO: Yes. Yes.
MCCLURE: From there it got worse.
CUVUTO: Holly, I saw this with my two little boys. What I found offensive — I don’t care what your stands are on the environment — is that they shove this in a kid’s movie. So you hear the penguins are starving and they’re starving because of mean old men, mean old companies, arctic fishing, a big taboo. And they’re foisting this on my kids who frankly were more bored that it was a nearly two-hour movie. And they’re kids!
[Snip]
My biggest thing was — you can make a political statement all you want — adult movie and all. I just think it’s a little tacky, and a big-time objectionable when you start foisting it on kids who don’t know any better.
[Snip]
Even more telling to me was the fact that — I though it was like an animated “Inconvenient Truth.” I half expected to see an animated version of Al Gore to pop-up. I must be the only one in the theatre having this reaction because, you know, my boys are just bouncing off the wall because it’s so damn long. But the other issue is that, you know, that is animated “Inconvenient Truth.”
ToTheCenter.com We gotta get a writer to cover this too!

Cool. Now I’ll go see it. Thanks, Neil Cavuto…
November 21st, 2006 at 10:38 amThis has become an issue of ‘the left’ because the right made it that way. They refuse to accept the fact that humans cause these problems and if there are such problems, as they say, they are content to let God sort it out. This is one issue that could be truly bipartisan, and the right refuses to make it so. Instead of educating children to the problems, as in this film, they would rather they remain illiterate to the issues.

November 21st, 2006 at 10:40 amWhere better?
The message would be completely lost on you. At least kids have a chance to learn the truth.
I think Neil & his kids are ADDHD. Short attention span, too much sugar on a daily basis, no focus.
Neil, you spout propaganda and outright lies in a daily basis.
How does that qualify you to critique anyone else’s work?
As for you, Holly McClure…you must be as low rent as Fux News to agree with anything Cuvuto says. This guy is whacked, and you’re agreeing with him?
Neil, Tony Blair hired Al Gore as an expert on Global Warming.
Get over yourself, ’cause we have a new Sheriff in town.
It’s a cute movie.

November 21st, 2006 at 10:41 amCUVUTO: Right after the movie, I signed my kids up for 3 years of Jesus camp, that should fix this. Then when they turn 16 I am going to let Dobson show them the way.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:42 amMighty, ahh much like Religious brainwashing right??
LOL.. Fool!
November 21st, 2006 at 10:44 amWell then maybe Fox should expand their new comedic leaning. In addition to the new comedy show they plan to put out they should make a right wing children’s animation film. “Ricky the Righty Weasel”. A tender story of a weasel and his search for his own kind.
I’m sure Hannity, O’Reilly and Limbaugh would gladly add there vocals for such a worthy venture.

November 21st, 2006 at 10:55 amWOW!!! Is this the next phase of Faux News? Almost riding on the (Bloody) coattails of OJ, then burying your head in the sand over Global Warming and making sure your kiddoes are also shielded from reality?
Is this what happens when you fail to deliver in a mid term election? Uncle Karl and Mad Dickie are VERY disappointed!!!!
November 21st, 2006 at 10:56 amhuh? it’s a children’s movie.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:57 amThe main theme of the movie is acceptance.
He goes to look for the reason for less fish because the elders believe it’s because of him! Just because he dances instead of sings like the other penguins.
The elders banish him.
And he ends up saving the penguins – by dancing.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:57 amWow. How awful!

I do not deny that there are natural problems, but those we cannot do anything about. Manmade problems, we can do something about. It shouldn’t be about left vs. right on this. Lets work together to solve the problems we cause. We can cut down on emissions dramatically and develop alternate energy sources. We can stop things like overfishing.
The reason I don’t mention natural causes is because they are natural and all we can do is react to them. The problems we cause are something we can and should change. Economically we depend on a sound environment … and that envioronment will be interupted by natural disasters, which is enough to deal with on its own without our own contributions to the destruction of it.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:59 amChildren are very perceptive. If Canuuto’s kids were acting bored, could be ’cause they know by now what Daddy wants to hear………
November 21st, 2006 at 11:00 amNnoodles, the evangelicals want the whole world pre-sanitized for their consumption so they don’t have to worry their pretty little minds about any nasty reality creeping in.

November 21st, 2006 at 11:03 amCavuto is wrong. This movie is simply part of the free market. The free market is free to make any type of movie they want including those with an extreme left bias. Do yourself a favor, why don’t you do a quick bit of googling and tell us how much CO2 and other greenhouse gasses are emitted on average per year by volcanoes. Then compare THAT number with the amount of CO2 and other greenhouse gasses emitted by humans and their technology every year.
It doesn’t even compare. Humans vastly out-produce nature when it comes to greenhouse gasses.

It is not just CO2. Also, the carbon & fluorochlorocarbon emissions from human energy use are vastly more complex molecules than volcanic emissions, which means that they are almost impossible to be broken down by natural means.
It’s like exposure to crocidilite asbestos as opposed to other asbestos minerals. The lung cannot rapidly break the invading object down, thus scar tissue develops and so on and so forth until the victim has mesothelioma.
This is not a binary problem with one bad guy, and certainly not one specific compound that is produced natrually.
Geez.

Comment by mighty aphrodite
Ok, Im gonna try this again. Cuba is a great project as a country where human rights sadly are being restricted. US is a great project as a country that has became the greatest terrorist state since UK.
Cuba = 0 interventions in foreign countries. US = more than 180.
Cuba = 0 nukes, yet still a menace (???) US = 5,000+ nukes and bullying everybody, but it is a peaceful country (already dropped 2).
Cuba = 40 y/o embargo and highest rates of literacy and healthcare in America (The Continent, cuz thats the name). US = most powerful country in the world but not all the population receives health care.
Cuba = beat US in baseball.
I dont have to live in Rwanda to express my rage about the living conditions in that country, a-hole.
Sorry, folks, really off topic.

What do you expect a 6, 8, or 10, year old to do about ANYTHING except be a kid?? Progs and Progettes world wide are determined to make EVERYTHING relevant to children, like sex…drugs and rock and roll. Let them play and have imaginations and just be KIDS……
We educate our kids about ‘inappropriate touching’ by adults. It’s not something we really want to talk to them about, but we have to do it for their own protection. Because there are bad people out there, our kids get robbed of some of their childhood innocence. Educating them about the interrelations of the species on this planet isn’t quite as much of a shock to the system as trying to explain pedophilia to them, and it’s also something they need to know about. Our existence is threatened by people who don’t think there are any repercussions for us when we wipe out a species. When we start seeing bird populations drop off, we’re going to have some interesting insect problems, and vice versa. When seasons are considerably longer or shorter than the range we’ve come to expect, there are repercussions all over the place (think disease, crop failures, famine, etc.)
Regressives (Regs and Regettes?) think that all they know is all they need to know, and that nothing they do has consequences if they don’t want it to. I don’t want to wait, and I don’t want kids to wait until it’s too late, to find out that by golly I guess it did cause problems for our species when we over-fished, or that the loss of ice shield in the Arctic and Antarctic does a lot more than just drown a few polar bears or starve a few penguins. If adults are too set in their ways or willfully ignorant to do something about it, I’d like to know there’s another generation that might prod them to action or take action themselves.

**********Dear Mr. Moses, I apologize PROFUSELY if you are under the mistaken impression that I ignore science. Often my work involves the utilization of forensic science. For the record:
I believe in science and the the meshed methods of science. I am constantly in awe of the complexities of biology, astronomy, physical geography, chemistry, etc.
Unlike secular humanists, however, I do not worship science per se – I am in awe of the One SO brilliant as to design it all. I have a friend whose atheist son is a brilliant professor in the chemistry department . At dinner a couple of years ago, we were having a rousing discussion of religion and science. I made the comment, “Man thinks he is brilliant for discovering DNA strands – I think the One who came up with the genetic coding is MORE brilliant.”
I believe in evolution. I believe evolution IS an ongoing part of God’s plan. I believe the Bible, Torah, etc are spiritual books, not science books. I believe the people who wrote these inspired books were writing for a people with LIMITED scientific knowledge.
You very unscientifically leap to erroneous conclusions – watch that you don’t leap over a cliff……

It is all basically her way of making up for the fact that growing up nobody liked her much, particularly her parents who knew her best.
If she is a defence lawyer, unlikely though it may seem given that she is an idiot who doesn’t even know as much about her own country’s legal system and laws as most foreign lay people do, she is of a brand that can only ever use the Chewbacca defense. November 21st, 2006 at 1:04 pmHappy Guy
BBC is the national broadcaster of the UK. It is a well established and highly regarded source of news. It does have a slight bias, towards being UK news and not, in fact, however much this may startle you, American news.
When it covers American news it is frequently as unbiased as one can get, the fact that it covers America in a poor light is due to the fact that America is run by a bunch of savages that can barely feed and cloth themselves, not thanks to some sort of bias.
Once America can get some of its real liberals, the guys who do not think of liberalism and fiscal responsibility as being opposing viewpoints, and who believe in consentual reality but rather in facts, then things will improve. As it is you have the knuckle dragging pre-primates who have not figured out that ice melts when it is hot.
Fox News is the national broadcaster of Rupert Murdoch. It is a recently established news source which has thus far fired reporters for telling the truth. It has no long established tradition of straight news casting and in fact has a tradition made up mostly of opinion mongers who are iffy on figuring out the facts.
That it shows America in a positive light, is due to the fact that it works for its sponsors and realises that so long as Americans do not do anything to hurt their advertisers’ bottom line short term profits, like maybe taking all of those guys whose livings are made by, you know, investigating the enviroment and why things are getting hotter and colder all over the place, they will get their paycheques at the end of the month.
That is all.

So pray tell, why did you bring up the tired “volcano” argument while discussing global warming if not to refute the science linking human activities with recent global warming?
Sounds like you’re trying to disagree with the basic idea of global warming but at the same time agree with it.
Yes, there are natural cycles in nature (very vague statement as it is!)
Does that mean humans are NOT part of nature?
This is one of the most damaging and STUPID ideas put forth by western religions and ESPECIALLY by Christianity – that humans are separate from and SUPERIOR to nature. That we can do as we please with the Earth and its creatures, and that whatever happens was God’s plan all along.
We ARE animals. We are “smarter” than any other animal known on the Earth, but we ARE animals. To deny this is pure Ego masturbation.
Thus we are also part of the NATURAL cycle of the planet. The difference between now and the previous hundred million years of human existence is that we now have harnessed our intelligence to enable our population to EXPLODE and at the same time we have new vast powers to change and alter our environment and our future.
We humans exist on the Earth in such great numbers now that we are a separate force of nature. If we fail to recognize this and act accordingly we WILL fulfill the last chapter in that mythological book you refer to as the Bible. Self fulfilled prophesy of eternal extinction. Jesus would be devastated if he saw how we are treating our obligations as the tenders of the Earth.
November 21st, 2006 at 1:23 pmI am going against my own advice here but:
mighty aphrodite
We have caught you out lying (For example at one point you were calling yourself a Jewess, and then later on you were going on about being a Christian.) We have seen you mocking those less fortunate then yourself, and we have more then once, found you to have no arguments save calling us names.
Indeed read through your arguments on this site: You accuse liberals of some vague conspiracy yet you do not even bother trying, to explain what possible benefit such a conspiracy would have, save it being something you personally oppose.
Indeed it is not that you are a conservative which I find personally offensive, it is that you oppose for the sake of it, without really opposing anything. You do not present a real argument, merely a constant barrage of nyah nyah nyah.
The fact is that you are a liar, your facts cannot be trusted and you have this nasty tendency to post like a self-righteous prig. Your habit of aiming to make your posts as smug, and as self-satisfied as possible, far outweighs your tendency to actually post anything of substance.
If you had an opposing viewpoint, and you were really prepared to argue about it, or heck even if you have a viewpoint at all save that you do not like liberal ideals because once you met a bunch of nasty liberals, then I would treat you with more respect.
As it stands, you are nothing but a troll who aims merely to deflect the rest of us into arguing with you when the facts are clearly there for anybody to see. Global Warming is past the point of debate, it is real. Two years of record hurricanes, record heatwaves striking on every continent in the world, animal migrations throughout various national parks to try and escape changing weather conditions, as well as the fact that we cannot point to a Pompey or similar incident to explain all of this, and still you persist in trying to make out that the scientists are all evil geniuses out to prove some political point which, as it turns out, would still mean less smog and less terrorism if we did what they wanted and they were wrong.

November 21st, 2006 at 1:41 pm#130
So now you’re moving from the tired “volcano” argument – without addressing my question to you – to the tired “progressives want to punish achievers” argument.
This is a completely BS argument, and one that can’t stand on its own merit. Progressives – whatever the HELL that means – don’t want to punish achievers. Indeed, we WANT achievers to get some real work done regarding the crisis we are hurtling towards.
We want to REWARD achievers and developers who can make money, produce, build, AND at the same time not destroy our only home in the cosmos.
We want to reward achievers who are responsible and rationale – while at the same time punishing those who would sell out our long term future for short term profits.
So please quit spouting off the “they’re just jealous” BS – nobody here is buying it. Perhaps you’d have better luck at RedState.
November 21st, 2006 at 1:46 pmMighty Aprodite: “Europe and the rest of the world have been bogged down by stratified social restraints – the US has more social mobility than just about anywhere – and the snobs HATE us for it.”
Pssst. Don’t tell anyone here, but poverty rates, homelessness and hunger is not nearly the problem in Europe as it is here. Nobody worries about bankruptcy due to illness and nobody worries that a qualified kid won’t be able to go to college. And, the difference between rich and poor is much greater here than anywhere in the world. I’m not sure where you get your ideas, but you seem hopelessly out of touch. We could learn a few things from Western Europe.
November 21st, 2006 at 1:47 pm#130
Also I should point out the other tired argument you pushed in this response – that we’d have to “give up” all of our modern technology and inventions of convenience in order to stop the destruction of our home.
The only thing we have to “give up” are easily produced fuels that rely on old technology and emit greenhouse gases. I say its about time!

November 21st, 2006 at 1:57 pmMighty Aphrodite has not heard of solar power, or that battery technology is getting progressively better everyday. There is nano technology that allows an electric car to be charged in 10 minutes. Now, think about the future when there are already some ways to stop using fossil fuels. Now take that cock out of your mouth.
Better yet, I believe global warming is exaggerated. But then again, all these technologies can be cheaper and are already more efficient………..

November 21st, 2006 at 2:13 pmOh yeah Aphro, the power, the pure unadulterated political power to do what exactly?
If liberals were so concerned about power do you honestly think we haven’t figured out what the real buzz issues of today are? Do you honestly think we haven’t figured out that if you find one group to bash, that is big enough for everyone to know one but not quite big enough to lose you an election, you can win an awful lot of power very quickly?
If we were so interested in the power, as you put it, do you honestly think that we are such poor students of history that we have missed how easy it is to win support by aligning with the Church and mixing religion with goverment? Do you think we are so stupid that we never recognised how easy it is to stand against something which has zero impact on our lives, and win support for it? Do you think if we cared about power at all costs we would allign ourselves with the guys who would pay the least in campaign contributions?
Did you honestly think, back when the war was popular, that liberals who were screaming out against it, were taking the path of winning support at all F@#$ing costs?
No Aphro you have nothing but vague conspiracy theories and lies, you do not have an opposing viewpoint, you don’t even have a viewpoint, you just have your own particular version of blindness.

November 21st, 2006 at 2:54 pmRegarding Kyoto and the “real” agenda of environmentalists…
I agree that Kyoto should be applied across the board. But lets consider some points here shall we?
1) It DOES make sense to enforce restrictions on the BIGGEST polluters first and it would result in the biggest reduction of emissions… which is the stated goal of ‘Kyoto’.
2) Environmentalists, liberals and “progressive” activists did not craft the legislation in Kyoto. It was made by politicians and committees. It speaks nothing of the environmentalist movment.
November 21st, 2006 at 2:56 pmThe difference between Cavuto and the pinguins is that when Cavuto wants fish..he can go to a food store and pay for it by cash or check, but the pinguins cannot do the same when they need a fish to survive, they depend on a healthy environment to provide it. You can contend it is nothing….Whether what I say counts with you is of no concern to me – you are certainly free to believe as you wish (emphasis on the word “wish”).
I have always enjoyed the story of my favourite former atheist, Rene Descartes. His contention was a mathematical fool chooses not to believe in God. But we see foolish people all the time.

As for calling you a “secular humanist” – I did no such thing. I stated certain beliefs of secular humanists and the fact you chose to see my statement as a description of you is a tad narcissistic. (Frankly, I would think that many here take the title secular humanist as quite accurate.)
Yes, children SHOULD go to zoos. When I went to the Portland zoo (which was alright) there was information about GLOBAL WARMING next to the polar bear exibit, saying how their habitat is in grave danger of dissappearing. So maybe McClure would use this logic to justify staying away from zoos that have an anti-conservative agenda, but our children deserve to know the truth, not movies that are censored or banned just because a right wing talk show hosts dislikes the film. Now I may actually see it.

Like every other rethuglican on the planet, she/it cannot be taken seriously. She’s to be pitied. She and her/its kind thought they hit pay dirt with G.W. Bush, and it was finally the losers of the world’s time to have their day in the sun. Thankfully, that long, horrible day is just about over.

No, I think you are talking about Mark Foley and the Rethug speaker of the House. Have a happy pagan thanksgiving.

MUMBLE FOR PRESIDENT.
November 21st, 2006 at 8:07 pmIt makes more sense than the cartoons running this country now!
But its OK to shove marketing bullcrap all over the place when it relates to kids? Cereal boxes, candy, THE HOLIDAYS, etc? This guy needs to do some homework.
November 21st, 2006 at 8:10 pmDear Mr./Ms. NMRT – - With the vocabulary you seem intent on teaching your spawn, they should be aptly suited for a career in the entertainment industry – writing the lyrics to mysoginistic rap “songs” will be right up their ALLEY……if only they can write…..
November 21st, 2006 at 8:19 pmI just think it’s a little tacky, and a big-time objectionable when you start foisting it on kids who don’t know any better.
And the children will never know any better, Mr. Cavuto, if they are not taught the facts of life.
In my opinion, it is far more harmful to willingly mislead young minds into believing that Santa Claus is actual. Same about the the Easter Bunny. Or the Tooth Fairy. Or… you get the idea.
Why would you want to shelter the children from reality, filling their minds with myths and fantasies?
A child who is not educated to contemplate the world around them, and see it for what it is, will grow up to be an adult with no capacity to discern reality from fantay, and will be unable to take a proactive stance reagarding serious issues, like oversfishing or pollution.
But then, maybe that is what you want: An uneducated audience to whom to peddle your rubbish.
November 21st, 2006 at 8:21 pm********Dear Mr. Moses, Everything in nature is a series of beginnings and endings. Mountains, trees, sand, wildlife, planets, etc. all have a beginning and end. Someone had to get the ball rolling – I contend it was God – and I am in awe of His incomprehensible brilliance. Not so, My bald fat sweaty one. Untill you can “prove otherwise” Energy can not be created or destroyed-only converted to another form. Even in the most absolute vacum there is energy/matter-matter being “frozen energy” Those of weak minds can not deal with not knowing all ansewrs to all questions and to therefore assign it to”God”- this is the “God” of the gaps. Gaps of human knowledge. We will never know it all because you must be “out side” of the system to have complete knowledge. If you need a “GOD” so be it. Just don’t vote him into office. (( some one spell check this))

Clearly, you didn’t understand that I was joking. Like you, I’m not married, and I don’t have kids. I do, however, have a real job, unlike you. I don’t care for rap songs almost as much as I don’t care for you and your kind, and I really HATE rap music. I just wanted to put that into perspective for you so you’ll realize your station in life. So, I’ll say it again, SHUT UP BITCH.

November 21st, 2006 at 8:32 pmWhat a crock.
“A recent study in Science found “There will be virtually nothing left to fish from the seas by the middle of the century if current trends continue.â€
These mustbe the same scientists that told us in the seventies and eighties that the world would be completely out of oil by the year 2000. Read the book state of fear – don’t you agree that some of this could just be hype to allow some eco-libs to make money by taking money from people under the guise of saving the planet.
November 21st, 2006 at 9:39 pmdon’t you agree that some of this could just be hype to allow some eco-libs to make money by taking money from people under the guise of saving the planet.
Comment by Piper — November 21, 2006 @ 9:39 pm
Let me get this stright- the eco-libs are up in the NW using solar-wind- and hydro power ( not to mention collecting used oil from fast food resturants for deseil fuel to power their volksvagen hippie vans to make a ton of money and become rethugs? Only Karl Rove could come up with that-now, could I buy three fingers of what you got?
November 21st, 2006 at 9:50 pmopen your eyes its not the hippies making the big money its the Dems sucking up to people who do care about the environment but are mislead into thinking it is a crisis by the 24 hr. media and by people that need their votes.
November 21st, 2006 at 10:14 pmLeave it to the rightwing nutjobs to come up with this crap. I guess Fox News will demand that Bambi be taken off the shelves too, since its just an anti hunting propaganda piece. Freaken rightwing freapers.
November 22nd, 2006 at 12:31 amAfter coming back home from seeing the movie, out of curiosity I decided to go to Yahoo and check out the ratings critics and audiences were giving the movie. I also had the idea of reading a few comments.
Several of them had opinions similar to Cavuto’s, while few went even further -claiming that Happy Feet’s being different was a metaphor for “gayness” and that the movie was a “radical left-wing propaganda piece” meant to further the “gay agenda”. They also claimed it was anti-religious, and it was poisoning the children’s minds because the idea that humans have an impact on environment is nonsense (or something to that effect).
Truly deranged, bizarre stuff.
November 22nd, 2006 at 12:44 amHaven’t seen the movie, but from what I can tell, it sounds like Daddy Cavuto and the others sat with their kids and felt it incovenient to risk having the truth shared with their kids, they might find themselves having to look them in the eye and tell them that man’s greed is a good thing.
November 22nd, 2006 at 1:15 amGood for Cavuto. I didnt know he and his life partner Steve had kids. I really respect him for starting a family. It’s tough to do that when you’ve locked yourself in the closet all your life. Come out Cavuto. Just come out. Your kids will understand.
November 22nd, 2006 at 1:20 amstrange he is so content that his kids can’t sit still for 2 hours. i, myself, find it a sign of maturity when my kids can sit still, even when there are no explosions or other rapid-fire images rolling before their eyes.
November 22nd, 2006 at 1:37 amFrom the outrageously funny Tony Snow Show … “Cavuto, you must be smoking rope!!!”
November 22nd, 2006 at 2:28 amyeah Piper thats pretty retarded.. I get alot of emails from left wing political organizations and they arent talking much about the environment when they ask for money…
I think the grotesque anti-democratic excesses of Kkkark Rove, Dick Cheney, Asscroft, Hallabortion and the rest of the GayOldPedophole party are alot bigger fund raisers for the Dems than global warming is or will ever be.
Honestly, these days pretty much all a politician has to do is hold out his hand and say “I’m not a republican” and it will quickly be filled with cash.
I’m not a democrat. God know I think Dems aren’t nearly as viscious as they need to be when dealing with right wing hypocrite fascist scum without morals, but I’d vote for a donkey’s dropping just to get rid of these current lunatics and thier imaginary war on an imaginary vast global islamic conspiracy. I love it how these guy think its impossible that people who run countries never engage in criminal conspiracies but somehow a bunch of dysfuntional, underfunded, disorganized, stateless islamic militants are able to cohere and create a network with global reach.
9-11 was undertaken by about 50 people folks. thats not global. thats not “vast”. in the paraphrased words of Jon Steward, your slippery bathtub is more of a danger to your existence.
we are living in 1984 folks. its crazy. its nuts. the Power of Nightmares…
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=power+of+nightmares&hl=en
anyone who has spent 3 hours reading any website should take the time to watch this….
the idea that somehow the people who are expressing interest in saving the environment have MORE of a motivation to lie than people whose profits are directly tied to how much they damage the environment.. thats just silly…. honestly the ONLY vaugely scienctific people you have denying it are ones getting paid by companies that F#$CK the environment up for a living.
relying on left wing people for money isn’t exactly the smartest business plan around.
who has more of a monetary motivation to lie.. Al Gore or Exxon?
November 22nd, 2006 at 4:41 amGore could sell more books if he wrote one about being in the whitehouse during Monicagate…
(spoiler)
If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s 99% about expression and social acceptance. Basically, the story is about these penguins, and how they impress each other by singing, and find their mates with song, etc. There’s one penguin whose Elvis-ish father dropped him as an egg, and he’s a little ‘different’ because he channels his expression through dancing, not song. So he’s pretty much shunned, runs away, and meets a group of hispanic-accented little penguins who dig his footwork and he gains a little self worth outside of the social setting he grew up in.
He returns, and makes an impression on one lady penguin matching his art form to hers, but everyone else still doesn’t see what she sees in him. He leaves again, after discovering that his family is low on food because the fish are scarce.
So two-thirds of the way through the film…
He discovers fishing trawlers, and swims after one and somehow miraculously gets beached in a city, ends up in a zoo, and dances for the people, who tag him, release him, and follow him back. Everyone else suddenly sees the value of his dance and they copy him, and the humans are so impressed that a debate erupts over the health of this amazing and threatened colony…
…and in only the last five minutes of the film do they have a very quick montage of some people banning fishing around the arctic circle so the colony thrives.
You really need to be obsessed with the defense of industry in order to find anything wrong with this film. The film is about kids, family, community, and social acceptance – the fishing industry is used as a minor plot device, and plays no bigger role in Happy Feet than it did in Forrest Gump.
Is it possible to be offended at others taking offense?
November 22nd, 2006 at 7:00 amWhat nobody on the “left” seems to want to acknowledge is that the “environmentalist” movement was created, funded and setup by the financial oligarchy in order to extend their Empire over the entire planet.
Research it for yourself. Look at the number of environmental front groups established by the British monarchy. Look at the “wild zones” they created in African countries from which to run their dirty operations against nations of the continent.
The problem is that too many people have been brainwashed into this people bad/nature good paradigm, and thus allow themselves to be stampeded into simplistic solutions for problems that are complex and in many cases in fact created by the “right wing” side of the very same Imperial forces who are funding the “left” wing “solutions”.
We must defeat globalization in its many forms, and return to a system of sovereign nation states, whereby legitimate government is in place to temper the worst effects of corporate/financial looting and corruption at all levels.
Without strong government regulation and institutional defense against these financial oligarchic predators, humanity never could be the caretaker of our planet that we are intended to be.
November 22nd, 2006 at 7:23 amPoor misunderstood MA!
We have caught you out lying (For example at one point you were calling yourself a Jewess, and then later on you were going on about being a Christian.)
You libruls just will never grasp the fact that MA is really Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) in drag!
November 22nd, 2006 at 10:41 amCavuto says “it was an animated ‘Inconvenient Truth’” like that is a BAD thing!
If I were the “Happy Feet” producers, I’d feature that quote in my next series of print ads for the movie.
November 22nd, 2006 at 2:46 pmMy hands were still tingling from a rare round of applause for FOX after OJ Simpson book and interview were pulled. Just as I was thinking there may be hope for FOX news after all, I saw Neil Cavuto’s review of “Happy Feetâ€.
There is nothing wrong with mentioning dangers to that environment when discussing Antarctica. Our children need to be educated about environmental issues at an early age, or they might grow up to be a poor leader like Senator James Inhofe, or a foolish advisor like Chris Horner, or a misleading talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh. Just because “Happy Feet†did not meet Cavuto’s expectations of what a children’s movie should be is no reason to criticize it for introducing the next generation to important issues they will have to face. Hollywood must take on this responsibility since our current administration and some media outlets refuse to educate and truthfully report about environmental problems.
Cavuto’s foolish opinion on Happy Feet; ignorance, or personal financial stock interests in companies that pollute? Cavuto’s bird preferences: ostrich over penguin because they burying their heads in the sand instead of facing the harsh truth, like his reporting?
I want to see Neil Cavuto apologize on the air for his parental advice on the viewing of Happy Feet. Failing that, I want FOX news to fire him; not just because of this one incident but for his terrible reporting over the past year. However, this is America and I want to take the high road, therefore I do not recommend finding some provision in the patriot act to silence him permanently.
If he does not apologized or is not removed from the airwaves, I will use all my power as a consumer to boycott any sponsors of Neil Cavuto shows and products. I am copying other media outlets so they can encourage their readers to do the same.
November 22nd, 2006 at 4:11 pmMy hands were still tingling from a rare round of applause for FOX after OJ Simpson book and interview were pulled.
Other Fox divisions created the issue in the first place, so forgive me if I don’t bother applauding. Fox News pundits had little choice – if they ignored the genuine public disgust at their colleagues’ actions their hypocrisy and demagoguery would have been apparent to even the dimmest-witted of viewers and hurt their credibility for years to come. Once the issue blew up, it’s not surprising that Murdoch decided the potential long-term damages outweighed the short-term profits. What boggles my mind is that the deal ever got this far. How could presumably intelligent people fail to anticipate the reaction?
November 23rd, 2006 at 12:54 amThese culture warriors are confused. They’re probably thinking of the gay penguins who raised a baby in Central Park Zoo, recently featured in a children’s book “And Tango Makes Three.” Christian types who had been touting the “family values” of penguins in an earlier movie were no doubt embarrassed by that story, and reports from other zoos confirming that homosexuality not only exists but in fact may be rampant in the penguin world. Liberals, on the other hand, should think twice before inventing poster penguins for gay marriage and gay adoption. The latest news is that one of the gay penguins in NY left its partner for a female! Reaction from the Christian ex-gay movement will no doubt be forthcoming…
People, does anyone else think it’s absurd that we’re basing arguments that affect people’s lives on the behavior of a bunch of birds!?!? Keep penguins out of the bedroom! Stop trying to legitimize your subjective morality by making poorly-informed generalizations about nature!
November 23rd, 2006 at 1:55 amCorrect Me if I’m wrong, but isn’t “critic” Holly McClure just a tool of the religious right? She’s an evangelical christian entertainment critic. Talk about the pot calling the kettle a sinner…
November 23rd, 2006 at 3:21 amAren’t these the same people who though Passion of the Christ was an accurate and uplifting movie for children to see?
Cavuto is a fool – along with the rest of Fox News.
November 23rd, 2006 at 10:02 pmI think it’s offensive that Fox News wastes airtime on such a story when we’re fighting in foreign countries right now.
November 25th, 2006 at 7:25 pmThis guy needs to get a f*ckin’ clue.
November 27th, 2006 at 12:58 pmAnd while we’re at it, someone call Social Services and get those boys OUT of that abusive home.
“Inconvenient Truth” is it?
Hell, it’s almost December in the Midwest USA and it’s damn near 70F here.
[...] Not only was Neil Cavuto of Fox News upset over the supposed message of the successful animated kids movie, but he even found some random right-wing movie critic that agreed with him. Her biggest beef with the film? That a penguin has a plastic ring around its neck. C’mon, that never happens in real life you enviro-nazis! Other objectionable topics were global warming and overfishing. When will Hollywood learn that if a scientific truth becomes politicized then stating that truth is a form of brainwashing? There ought to be a law. [...]
November 27th, 2006 at 7:02 pmCool, now I want to see it. However I don’t think I understand Cavuto’s objections; I want my kids to know the truth.
November 27th, 2006 at 7:37 pmthis is a grate movi e
November 29th, 2006 at 12:07 pmAbout 6 months ago, Bush’s own administration, I can’t remember if it was the Dept. of Homeland Security or the Pentagon, or the NSA or which branch, issued a report saying that “Climate Change is the Greatest Threat to National Security,” even more than global jihad. Another Bush administration report recently recomended that if climate change continues at the current pace for the next 50 years, the damage to the US economy will be exponentially worse that the damage would be from ratifying Kyoto.
Its the f**king truth morons, and yes, its inconvenient. So is man made armageddon.
November 29th, 2006 at 8:31 pm[...] From Neil Cavuto… Even more telling to me was the fact that — I though it was like an animated “Inconvenient Truth.†I half expected to see an animated version of Al Gore to pop-up. [...]
November 30th, 2006 at 9:06 amBefore I even heard about the reviews of this movie I knew one thing about it. I DIDN’T WANT TO SEE IT. Either way these people in hollywood can make any movie they want right, left or just a movie you know MAKE BELIEVE!!!!
If a movie is more informative to your kids then you are then you aren’t being a parent. Your kids will learn more from you then any movie. Movie’s influnce and sometimes inspire us but they don’t parent our kids.
Humans are a problem only we it envolves money. But Man has also changed the planet to be for him to survive. We have Billions of people on earth and have adapted to live in extreme weather and climates just as animals do. We build shelters to live and eat the food to keep billions of people to survive. So it’s possible we have so many fish and so many animals because that is system GOD intended. Why do you think fish have hundreds of eggs it’s to have many so the food supply for others ever runs dry. Honestly we are all hear to kill each other and eat each other. We have so many deer because liberals think they should all not be hunted for food. Trust me tigers and bears and lions see us as food too and we lived in the wild we would be prey and hunted. That is why we have a brain and the tools to survive because we invented the GUN. Humans have teeth to eat meat and vegs. Liberals are people who like to live in a world that will ever exsist for many reasons. Liberals are crazy people who complain about the environment then take a private jet and burn all that oil which kills the cartoon aminals that don’t talk.
November 30th, 2006 at 12:55 pmearth is 4.5 billion years old , and had realy exciting times with milliones of volcanos , ice ages , massive earthquakes , was hit by hundreds of comets and huge asteroids some of them larger hundreds of times han rocky mountains and caused something similar to nuclear winter , but strangely non of thouse Natural Events caused global warming , u know why ? cause they are NATURAL , but when human gets involved , thats when the shit hits the fan , the planet has natural cycle to clean after every natural disaster , volcanic dust is very good for planting thats why u find most volcanos surrounded by forests , earthquakes no matter how large they are cant and didnt cause extinsion on large scales , and asteriods didnt cause global extinsion , as we can see life advanced normaly and didnt start all over even after a huge impact by asteriod with the size of texas occurred 200-250 million years ago , but thouse huge events were cleaned by the natural cycle of earth , earth forests turn CO2 to O2 , and tactonic movments , life activities , weather activities would cover the wounds caused by thouse events , but now to every one acting like he or she is the hier of Carl Sagan “ex :- MA ” how nature will cycle depleted uranium “half life of DU is 4.5 billion year ” ? how nature will cycle the CO2 again to O2 if every day we are burning more fuel and cutting more trees that suppose to inhale this CO2 and exhale O2 ? tell me what nature can do for the toxic wastes dropped everyday in oceans thinking they will just disappear by them selfes ? what will happen if earth based the no return point of global warming and the process accelerated by its own and the heat caused more water to vaporise and the atmosphere become thicker and it trapes more heat from the sun and this loop goes on untill earth become like venus , venus atmosphere is very good example of green house effect , now its 400 degree temp , constant rain of acid that doesnt reach the surface and vaporise in the way cuz of the heat and atmospher pressur tens of times more than earth normal pressur , thats our far future as result of global warming if we dont do something , AND THIS SCHMUCK COMPLAINING THAT A 3D GRAPHICS MOVIE FOR KIDS IS AGAINST OIL INDUSTRY ? AND THE DISASTER THERE IS PEOPLE WHO SUPPOSE GOT AT LEAST COUPLE OF BRAIN CELLS DEFENDING HIM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 3rd, 2006 at 9:21 pmWhat a bunch of whiners. I saw the film last night and didn’t see any harm in the ecology angle for my eight year old. What seemed tacky and boring was the promiscuous and pimpish penquin “All right ladies who wants to be first?” wobbling into an ice cave for relations with his ho’s. Global warming rants aside, this is exactly the behavior I’d prefer stay outside the nursery. That stuff is better projected to the hollabacks and their wootering dandys. Oh forget it, they’ve already ferroned into the next theater to enjoy the latest Car Wash remake- “Sudsed Up and Reloaded”. The 50 center crowd have already seated.
December 4th, 2006 at 10:36 amPublic utility companies spew far more CO2 into the atmosphere than oil companies.
And regardless – it’s not the people who find oil that are the problem: it’s the people who USE oil by turning that key in the ignition and create all that auto exhaust.
(oh – and also the people who use anything that’s SHIPPED cuz how else can things get to your house/store without an energy expenditure of some sort?)
December 8th, 2006 at 12:00 pmThis was, by far, one of the most boring and stupid movies I have seen in a long time. A sad waste of my money.
I’m so sick of this anti-religious crap being shoved down our throats, humans are evil fish-wasters. The only thing missing was that Mumble wasn’t gay. What a disappointment. They hit all the other points, why not shove that one down our throats, too?
Robin Williams’ voices were the ONLY good part of the show, along with a few humorous elements from the Latino penguins.
Even some of the humor was risque in nature (probably to try to keep adults at least AWAKE)
December 8th, 2006 at 10:45 pmOh dear god, what a load of bullcrap. These conservative Bush-loving bible-thumping flag-bags find the smallest things in everything, and make a big deal out of it. Whats up with people nowadays? I am literally pissed off because of this, and ashamed to be an American sometimes.
December 11th, 2006 at 9:23 pmIf the political right finds Happy Feet so objectionable, maybe they should just make their own movies. Then find some people to watch them.
December 12th, 2006 at 7:44 amHaving watched this via the web, is this guy really representative of who is on the TV in the US? Does he speak for any significant body of opinion? Because if he does, the US is really in trouble. Has he been inhaling his hairspray? What next – Tom and Jerry is commie propaganda? The Wizard of Oz is undermining marriage? Eskimos are the new terrorists?
Please tell me this is a spoof. Please.

December 14th, 2006 at 1:47 pmOk, I just went and actually saw this movie, and not surprisingly, Cavuto and whoever that chick is have their heads completely up their asses. I mean, one has to wonder how they can get away with being so blatently wrong on so many key points:
-They talk of the overfishing problem, (you know, the one that predicts the ocean fisheries to be completely depleted by 2050), as not only made up, but also imply that it’s wrong to think it’s the fault of “Big Bad Man and Business.” Right from the moment the penguin realizes who’s taking the fish, the first thing he goes with is not “big bad man,” but “ignorant man.” He realizes that they just don’t know what they’re doing to the penguins, not to mention every other member of the ecosystem, all of whom are starving and becoming increasingly desperate. He then takes it upon himself to appeal to their better nature, because he’s sure they have one. And sure enough, not to ruin it for anybody, but the humans are the ones, once they become aware of the impact they’re having, who actually have the power to do something about it. Yes, obviously the act of an bad bad species.
-”They don’t give any solutions!” was another point this pair seems to agree on. I’m sorry, I counted at least 3, though the first of which are considered the S and F words by the neoCons: Science and Facts. Once the studies have been done, which in reality they have, the Facts are consistent with theory that humans are the cause for much of the world’s decline. Then there’s a big debate among the leaders of the world, which include rotating fishing zones to allow fish to replenish themselves, or even the banning of commercial fishing in that area all together. I’m pretty sure I may have missed a couple others, but those THREE SOLUTIONS are pretty clear.
-The Zoo thing. The point of the Zoo scene is to show that for wild animals, the Zoo is not only the most unideal place for them to spend their lives, but it also should not be the ONLY PLACE LEFT in the world where these animals can survive. The zoo itself isn’t bad; it’s the reason he’s still alive, and becomes the reason people start to notice him, and sets off the whole scientific research thing. But his situation, where he’s trapped in this artificial alien world where he slowly loses any hope, or memory of ever being free and helping his friends, is a pretty crappy one.
-”They shouldn’t peddle this stuff to kids!” Since when are the neoCons opposed to teaching morals to the kids? Yes, MORALS! This is a fairy tail with a real MORAL to the story. If Cavuto and the chick are going to compare the film to “An Inconvenient Truth” and be right about it, (which they are, though I doubt they realize the implications), then they HAVE TO realize that, as Al Gore specifically said in the first part of his movie, the human impact on the environment is no longer a political issue, it is a MORAL ISSUE. It’s very interesting to hear neoCons arguing against teaching of morals, by calling it propaganda.
Of course, it’s easy to make sense of this once one remembers that neoCon “morality” is, just like everything else, not really in step with Actual Morality.
Last comment on this, I swear. Go see the movie, btw, it’s actually really good!
December 15th, 2006 at 2:23 pmHappy Feet has taken $140,000,000 in 3 weeks of release. That’s a lot of kids bouncing off the walls Neil. The movie is not 2 hours long. It is 85 minutes long including the 1000 name end credits.
December 16th, 2006 at 6:33 amHappy Feet is not a Hollywood film. It was written and made in Australia by Australians. Yes Warner Brothers financed 50% of the movie. The Australian producer/ distributor Village Roadshow contributed the other 50. Yes it is similar to an Inconvenient Truth in that it is hugely successful.
Fox news is populated with liars.

Sometimes the truth needs to be told whether you like it or not and looks as though Neil doesn’t like it. It’s a shame that a reputable news reporter has taken such a target approach to this movie and to Al Gore. What’s happened to you, Neil? Or have you always been this biased? I am so sick of opinion-based BS on so-called News stations. Maybe there should be more Happy Feet truths reported — on the news instead of movies!!
December 20th, 2006 at 8:23 pmI don’t know about you – but my head hurts. I’m so tired of the discourse in this country. We sound like a bunch of bumbling idiots. A movie about some penguins for 7 year olds turns into the next battleground of the culture wars? For god’s sake people – grow up!
Let’s talk about facts. Have you ever seen a six pack ring stuck in a fish’s gills? I have. Complete with the tumor that develops around it. Black and nasty. Does nature deserve that? I’ve heard those on the right (I’m not happy with the left either) complain that the movie makes the humans out to be big, bad, nasty polluters. DON’T YOU THINK A PENGUIN IN ANARTICA WOULD THINK THAT IF THEY SAW A BACKHOE??? That’s how it’s portrayed in the movie. And frankly, whoever throws trash in our pristine waters IS evil. And on the left – people have the right to complain about pelvic thrusting penguins. I personally didn’t care that much, but there were a few times in this movie that I felt it was a tad big inappropriate for my 5 year old.
My point is this: Can’t we discuss this without it being about a left or right wing agenda? Guess what folks – It’s about facts. We’re dumping unnatural junk in the oceans – probably even in Anartica! Let’s allow the kids to lean what’s happening so they will understand what the previous generations did (and didn’t do) to make the world livable for them.

December 23rd, 2006 at 2:44 pmCavuto objects to a movie for children that mentions real problems, and I can also assume that he objects strongly to religious indoctrination of children in Sunday schools.
January 11th, 2007 at 4:39 pmI think Happy Feet was a great movie, its stupid to look so politically deeply into a kids movie
and even if they have a point, whats wrong with showing man as stealing all the fish? its exactly what we’re doing afterall!
and as for that american tv woman saynig “is it right to force anti-religion on kids who dont know any better” is she forgetting that Religon is forced on kids who dont know any better in everyday life beacause of people like her and their “holyer than thou” attittude!!
and religion is forced on kids far less subtly i might add, with a warning of an eternity hell if they dont belive!!!!
now tell me which is worse?
Im glad i live in the UK where things like this arent an issue and happy feet is nothig more than a kids film
