21 Reasons To Give Thanks»

This Thanksgiving, progressives have a lot to be thankful for. Here’s our list:

We’re thankful for our country’s troops.

We’re thankful America dumped the 109th Congress.

We’re thankful Rick Santorum will have more free time to find the WMD.

We’re thankful we don’t have to go to war with the Secretary of Defense we had.

We’re thankful for “red state values,” like protecting reproductive rights, supporting stem cell research, and rejecting discrimination.

We’re thankful Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), who calls climate change the “greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people,” will no longer chair the Senate environmental committee.

We’re thankful Matt Drudge does not rule our world.

We’re thankful Al Gore helped the country face an inconvenient truth.

We’re thankful Bill O’Reilly does not resort to name calling - well, besides labeling ThinkProgress as “far left loons,” “kool-aid zombies,” “hired guns,” “vile,” “haters,” a “far left smear website,” and “a very well-oiled, effective character assassination machine.”

We’re thankful minimum wage ballot initiatives passed in six states.

We’re thankful the Dixie Chicks aren’t ready to make nice.

We’re thankful Ted Haggard bought the meth but never used it.

We’re thankful for the 100,000 readers who responded to our Tell the Truth About 9/11 campaign.

We’re thankful for “the Google” and “the email” (and the “series of tubes” that make them possible) — but not iPods, which are endangering our nation.

We’re thankful Maf54 isn’t online right now.

We’re thankful people send us Jack Abramoff’s email.

We’re thankful Keith Olbermann’s ratings are up and Bill O’Reilly’s ratings are down.

We’re thankful President Bush’s secret plan for Iraq is safe with Conrad Burns.

We’re thankful we won’t spend Thanksgiving turkey hunting with Dick Cheney.

We’re thankful the “Decider” only gets to make the decisions 789 more days.

And last but not least: We’re thankful to the Think Progress readers for their tips, energy and support.

Happy Thanksgiving! — The Think Progress Team.

Digg It!

U.S. Retreat from Iraq? The Secret Story

According to credible Iraqi sources in London and Amman, a secret story of America’s diplomatic exit strategy from Iraq is rapidly unfolding. The key events include:

First, James Baker told one of Saddam Hussein’s lawyers that Tariq Aziz, former deputy prime minister, would be released from detention by the end of this year, in hope that he will negotiate with the US on behalf of the Baath Party leadership. The discussion recently took place in Amman, according to the Iraqi paper al-Quds al-Arabi.

READ THIS ARTICLE GUYS ITS VERY INTERESTING

  5. vwcat Says:

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
I am also thankful for sites like Think Progress. Without you and other similar sites I would have never found a place to come together with similar thinkers and places that do not kiss the gop ass like in the MSM and supports democratic viewpoints.
    Thank you Think Progress

    Happy thanksgiving everyone.

I’m quite thankful for TP; Very good list.

    Keep up the good work.

  10. robert Says:

I am thankful for the freedom to disagree.

I am thankful for the chldren I have brought into this world and have been able to support without government interferance, or social programs. But by hard work and self reliance.

I am thankful that I am higher on the food chain than the Turkey.

I am thankful for only 789 days of leftist leadership in the congress.

And I am thankful that you disagree with me. It makes life fun.

  11. Erroll Says:

To risk a discordant note, the last thing that I am grateful for is that American troops are fighting and killing Iraqis, a people who have never posed even the remotest threat to this country. I am concerned that American troops continue to get blown up and ripped apart for no legitimate reason and I recognize that the only viable way to make sure that this does not continue to happen is to get those troops out of that slaughterhouse as quickly and as speedily as possible. When that happens is when I will finally give thanks.

  12. Jules Says:

and Eroll - to add to your list. I am thankful that there will be a leftist leadership in congress to get us out of this quagmire that the neocon misleadership has gotten us into.

  13. Jay Randal Says:

If Bush and Cheney were gone, then America would have a real Thanksgiving Holiday, but they still control the US and could attack Iran at any time to ignite global nuclear WWIII, and cause the end of the world!

  14. Jules Says:

I am also thankful to TP. I inadvertantly discovered this site about 8 months ago and it has been a part of my daily read ever since. There are not many here deep in the cold heart of Texas who are not neocons. It is great to have a place to go to share views with other progressives.

  15. robert Says:

#14, Pelosi is not conservative. That would be like calling Hitler tolerant.

(No, I am not saying Pelosi is like Hitler, but you can not claim her to be Conservative)

  16. wisedup Says:

I’m thankful for TP…for letting us gather here and fight for TRUTH. I don’t know any of you in person,I don’t know what race, gender or anything else about you…’and frankly my dear,..I don’t give a damn’. TRUTH supercedes all. We made a difference in the midterms and much more. Well never know if we made the trolls stop and think about their thoughts I thank ALL of you for remembering their are good republicans out there too. (but we know how they voted…lol) My goal is to root out the bad of both partys as the fight goes on. I want to leave the world a little better than I found it,and TP and posters are making that goal come true. Now shut up wisedup, and get back to work.

  17. oskeewowwa Says:

thank YOU, TP, and all the readers and posters here who have contributed so much to my political/civic education!

    Happy Turkey Day to ALL!

  18. katy Says:

thank you, ThinkProgress, and all of the BEST commenters here - you know who you are - who have helped to save the USA from complete meltdown into a fascist dictatorship… ( uh, i hope i didn’t just break a cardinal rule of my own - “counting chickens before…”)…
but that’s what i’m most thankful for… come january, the real work and healing begins…
    .

Here in Mexico we have the 3rd most wealthy man in the planet: Carlos Slim. He has communication, food service and other corporations. So, in your opinion this guy must get up really early and begin working like a mule until well advanced the night. A real hard worker, cuz thats the way you make wealth, right? And the 60 million poor people here are just some lazy, booze drinking a-holes, right?

I am thankful for only 789 days of leftist leadership in the congress.

Again…what with the left thing? Do you really know what is the left? Besides the side opposing the right? Go to Italy and France and you will probably catch see that Dems are really guys from the center/right. And that makes you closer to the Nazis: national fundamentalists.

By the way, I really dont understand too much Thanksgiving day. In Buddhism you thank, everybody, without words, with every exhale you make. So Im thanking every single obe of you since Ive been born. :)

  20. trueblue Says:

    Forgot one:

We’re thankful that John Bolton won’t be in the UN as of Jan ‘07.

    Happy Thanksgiving, TPer’s.
    ……mmmmmmm…………pass the potatoes…….

  21. robert Says:

#21, Sorry, didn’t get the talking points memo today. Too busy putting the bird in the oven.

Yes, admitted, many of the Dems elected were more conservative and elected legally and legitimately. Many of the Repubs were more liberal too. And you know what, good on them. Maybe we can head for the middle of the road if the LEADERSHIP (Pelosi and Hoyer) will listen instead of trying to push their own agenda.

I am honest enough to admit that my prefered party lost and the Dems one. That is a fact that can not be disputed. No challenge, no legal wrangleing. But now, ‘08 is not the Reps to win, it is for the Dems to lose.

  22. unbelievable Says:

I am thankful to Think Progress for giving all of us a voice we probably wouldn’t have had otherwise. And for bringing us all together to know and fight for the truth.

I am thankful to Judd for allowing us to live in the reality that exists as witty, thoughtful and frequently crude folks :), rather than in the make-believe universe that the neocons try to force upon us all with judgment, regulations, and their silly beliefs and feelings.

I am thankful to those who post here for their knowledge, insight, and hilarious senses of humor - as well as their comraderie and support.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  23. Juan C Says:

    Hey, true! :)
Im going to write you later.

  24. Zooey Says:

Happy Thanksgiving to all the fantastic commenters at ThinkProgress, from a little island of blue in the deep red State of Idaho.

I am thankful for all of you, I have learned so much.

I am thankful that this country, after the terrifying downward spiral of the last several years, now has a chance to right itself, and get back to its former greatness.

I am thankful for my sons, the greatest gifts of my lifetime.

I’m thankful for several ThinkProgress commenters who have become great friends outside of TP — you know who you are, I appreciate every one of you.

I am thankful for one of newest commenters, Robert, because we found we agree on one thing, and that’s a great start. I also thank Robert for being an unwitting guinea pig while I practiced my kindness and love. Namaste…

And finally, I am thankful for my family, without whom I wouldn’t be the person I am, even though for the life of them, they’ll never figure out why. Brace yourself Ms Zooey, it’s a great day for more kindness and love.

Thanks, Think Progress Team, you’re the greatest!

Hard work brings its rewards, yes or no? I come from a family of 5 children raised by a divorced mother in a time that did not have nearly as many social programs as there are today. Did I use my circumstance and an excuse for failure? No. I used it as a motivator for success.

In Buddhism you thank, everybody, without words, with every exhale you make. Sorry, I thought you were Athiest. My confusion.

  26. unbelievable Says:

    Comment by robert — November 23, 2006 @ 11:05 am

Actually, Robert, you’re pretty pathetic for starting a fight in here today. And YOU did start it with your digs at liberals in your pretend ‘I’m thankful for’ post.

Saying that you were thankful for your children would have been sincere. But adding the nonsense about government programs was just a pathetic attempt to provoke people to pay you attention.

I’m actually thankful to you Robert (not for you), because hypocrites like you are why I am currently the person I am today - a progressive.

  27. robert Says:

#28, was that an insult? lol

  28. Zooey Says:

#28, was that an insult? lol

I hope you didn’t take it that way, Robert, it was not my intention.

  29. robert Says:

    #30,

send you advice to post #10, 22, and 26 as well for their digs at republicans.

Zooey and all. Have a good T-day

  30. unbelievable Says:

Those are the kinds of statements that keep the country artificially segregated.
    Comment by Spudge_Boy — November 23, 2006 @ 11:15 am

The right isn’t willing to compromise. They want it there way or else… they whine, threaten, insult, cheat, steal, lie, etc.

Adults learn that life is a compromise on most issues and learn how to find and live with consensus. Neocons are spoiled brats who never grew up and never learned how to share anything.

  31. robert Says:

#31, Look at the top of the page where it says “We’re thankful the “Decider” only gets to make the decisions 789 more days.

  32. Jules Says:

Spudge and unbe…..do not forget how the repugs so willing allowed dems to hold hearings….in the friggin BASEMENT!!!

  33. robert Says:

#36, I thought I had read a post from Juan where he stated he was an athiest. therefore I was confused. I have not read Coulters book and really have no desire to. Guess what, not O’Reily’s book either.

#35, So, Progressives can say “We’re thankful the “Decider” only gets to make the decisions 789 more days.” But others can not take the opposing view? Hypocracy

  34. unbelievable Says:

send you advice to post #10, 22, and 26 as well for their digs at republicans.
    Comment by robert — November 23, 2006 @ 11:22 am

This is a progressive site - not a conservative one. The thread itself was also directed at conservatives. But, you don’t seem to understand that this is our ‘house’, where the majority is liberal. You’re supposed to respect that and keep your pettiness to yourself for one day. But no… it must be all about you Robert. Sad.

  35. yowzer Says:

    LEFT BLOGOSTAN…YEEEEAAAAAARRRRGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
    .

  36. George Says:

Get rid of that stinking picture!

  37. unbelievable Says:

    Jules - excellent point!

We’ve missed you around here. How’s school? I can’t believe the first semester is almost over already. Time flies when you’re insanely busy, huh? :)

  38. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Trublu - sorry to burst your bubble, but Bush renominated Bolton, same job, different title, so he can recess appoint him/it to the U.N.

I’m still waiting for my earlier posts to show up, the ones where I thanked everyone….

  39. unbelievable Says:

But others can not take the opposing view? Hypocracy
    Comment by robert — November 23, 2006 @ 11:28 am

The words are spelled ATHEIST and HYPOCRISY.

That’s not my point Robert, and you know it. My point is that for one day, you could have not come here - or let us (the majority) have our day of union without your desperate attempt to be smug and gain attention. Grow up.

  40. Juan C Says:

I thought I had read a post from Juan where he stated he was an athiest.
    Comment by robert

And thats why all people here are atheists…and argentinians…and mechanical engineers…and etc.

By the way, as far as I know, it was Bush who said he was the Decider. So TP is only calling him the way he described himself.

  41. Jules Says:

Robert - so you are part of the 31% who still support this administration? How sad for you. There has never been a time in this country where we have been so poorly viewed by the world and by our own. Bush has thrown this country into an unwinnable war, has diluted our constitutional rights, has made his friends wealthier at the expense of the fisc, and has helped to make poor people poorer. The progs have not even been in office yet. There is no horrendous record to view and critize. Perhaps your outrage at the discontent we show for Bush and his cronies would be better saved until he does something right!

  42. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Well, it looks like the posts with the link won’t make it today, so I’ll try this: Google “PETITION FOR REDEPLOYMENT OF TROOPS FROM IRAQ” using the quotes, then follow the link.

Something to be thankful for, a Senator willing to take up the cause.

  43. Jules Says:

Unbe - school is great. I am so glad to be back. I cannot believe I left teaching for even a day. It is amazing though how much the legislatures and administrators are piling on teachers. When are we ever going to make parents and students at least partially responsible for their own education?

My daughter is a senior this year so we have been really busy with all the “stuff” that goes along with that. In addition, one of her best friends died the weekend prior to school starting and I am still trying to help her recover from that. She finally consented to speak with a professional about it and that is helping immensly. Now when she smiles I know it is real. She and her friends have had their delusions about immortality taken away early. I would suppose this is how the families, the brothers and sisters and children, of our fallen military feel about now.

  44. robert Says:

#46, Agreed on the Just because somebody else does it mean that you have to? and I was only referring to 2 people. Not all Dems, because it seems most want the same things the rest of us do. Apologies extended

I do not protect “Bush the man” just the Office of the President of the United States.

#47, The reason we even have this day is because people left the oppressive society they were in for the very rights we are now exercising here. People have died to ensure we have this right. You know that better than many others. So, please, pardon me if my views offend you.

  45. Briseadh na Faire Says:

    Robert, from an earlier thread:

What do you call 500+ Chemical munitions?

    Washington Post

    Comment by robert — November 21, 2006 @ 10:34 am

I call it proof positive you don’t know how to read. From the Washington Post article:

Boylan said the suspected lab was new, dating from some time after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Yes. That’s right. This lab didn’t exist before Bush invaded Iraq.

    Comment by Briseadh na Faire — November 22, 2006 @ 5:47 pm

I am thankful the U.N. sanctions kept Saddam in check, demonstrating that a concerted effort from the world body politic can be effective in maintaining peace and stability.

I am hopeful for the time when we can add a layer of global sovereignty over national governments for the sole purpose of protecting human rights and establishing permanent peaceful relations between all members of humanity.

  46. robert Says:

    #49, un-employment 4.4%

  47. veritas Says:

Thankful that this sociopath only has two more years to attempt to destroy this country! Thank God for that!

  48. oldtree Says:

I would be more thankful if we did 3 things, (sure it will happen like porcine aerobatics)

    1. stop celebrating the day we stole the territory from the rightful owners
    2. stop glorifying death and the torture of the animals
    3. using this death orgy as the launching point for a season of buying things for yet another ritual.

perhaps we would do this if we were a little more “grown up” we must look awfully silly in the eyes of civilized societies. really, it is embarrassing

  49. robert Says:

#53, did yo ubother to read all the links I sent that day? Remember that the weapons , not the lab, were pre-1991, fit the definition of WMD and still had active chemical agent that posed a threat.

    defenselink

  50. Jules Says:

    #49, un-employment 4.4%

    Comment by robert — November 23, 2006 @ 11:49 am

That is only because the military are included in the working. When a country is at “war” this would be inflatrd. In addition, the unemployment figures do not include the workers whose benefits have been discontinued. Do you read the news? Have you seen all of the companies who are still downsizing? Replacing good middle class jobs with jobs that pay minimum wage is not a success story. Unless you are a neocon that is.

  51. Zooey Says:

Why does the family always have to fight on the holidays? **sniff**

If somebody calls the cops, I don’t know any of you…

  52. get it together, bozos Says:

HEY! Why do you clowns keep feeding the trolls? Seriously.

  53. Jules Says:

oldtree - a friend of my daughters asked her what she was doing today and she responded, “celebrating the day when a group of people lied to another group of people, then murdered them and stole their land.”

That about sums it up. I personally celebrate that I have been given this beautiful, insightful daughter!!

  54. Jericho Says:

Sorry, I’m not happy. Over half the people of the world are needlessly suffering, and dieing from hunger and thirst while on the otherside of the earth people are ‘celebrating’ this ungrateful day with a nice stuffed turkey! When will we stop staring at our own bellybuttons and start realizing thet natural resources are not to be wasted. How about we skip the damned turkey this year. Send it to Vietnam, Peru, Chile, Cuba, Congo, Myanmar, Nepal, China, … anywhere, just don’t eat it yourself, aren’t we fat bastards already?

  55. Jules Says:

If somebody calls the cops, I don’t know any of you…

    Comment by Zooey — November 23, 2006 @ 11:58 am

But would you bail us out?

  56. robert Says:

#58, Agreed 100%. Just like my attacking Pelosi is attacking Pelosi, not the Dems as a whole. There are many that are good, and many that are not, just like the Repubs.

To quote a line from Full Metal Jacket “It’s a huge sh*t sandwich and we all have to take a bite.”

  57. Jules Says:

Robert - my point exactly - Pelosi has not had the opportunity to do anything yet, but you attack her. Chimpy has been in office for six years and has done a hell of a lot of damage.

  58. unbelievable Says:

school is great. I am so glad to be back. I cannot believe I left teaching for even a day.

Glad to hear that… though I figured that was the case :)

Well you did what you thought was right. I think sometimes you haveto be reminded why you love what you love.

It is amazing though how much the legislatures and administrators are piling on teachers. When are we ever going to make parents and students at least partially responsible for their own education?

I hear you. I’m not surprised the system is failing. They want to blame teachers for everything, never considering that we can only do so much. It’s the conservatives who won’t let education move into the 21st century and allow middle and high school kids the ability to make mistakes in the comfort of the classroom BEFORE they get out into the real world and screw up their lives because they’d never been allowed an ounce of responsibility before.

    Sounds like Bush…

My daughter is a senior this year so we have been really busy with all the “stuff” that goes along with that. In addition, one of her best friends died the weekend prior to school starting and I am still trying to help her recover from that. She finally consented to speak with a professional about it and that is helping immensly. Now when she smiles I know it is real. She and her friends have had their delusions about immortality taken away early. I would suppose this is how the families, the brothers and sisters and children, of our fallen military feel about now.
    Comment by Jules — November 23, 2006 @ 11:45 am

So sorry to hear about your daughter’s friend. It’s terrible to hear about someone dying so young… whether here or in Iraq. But glad to hear she is mending and able to enjoy her senior year.

I know a couple of kids who are planning to join the Marines. Makes me sick. The 110th Congress has a huge wound to heal. I hope they can before more kids die in this illegal and pointless war.

  59. Juan C Says:

To be even more pesimistic or aware of our surroundings:

Every three seconds a human being dies due to hunger.

On that fatidic 9/11 (and virtually every day): 31,185 children died due to hunger and desease. I didnt see any banner saying: We will never forget those kids.

  60. unbelievable Says:

The reason we even have this day is because people left the oppressive society they were in for the very rights we are now exercising here. People have died to ensure we have this right. You know that better than many others. So, please, pardon me if my views offend you.
    Comment by robert — November 23, 2006 @ 11:45 am

Stop trying to play the victim. I see right through that act of yours.

Of all the threads and all the things you could do today (like spend time with your family instead of strangers in here), you chose to insult us on our own turf. Again, Robert, it’s not all about you. Grow up.

  61. Briseadh na Faire Says:

    Oldtree - namaste.

I appreciate the Native American attitude towards the land. They did not consider themselves owners of the land, but rather more like stewards. We would do well to adopt the same attitude, for the land will exist long after we are gone, and if we are not wise stewards, the land will not sustain future generations.

  62. unbelievable Says:

perhaps we would do this if we were a little more “grown up” we must look awfully silly in the eyes of civilized societies. really, it is embarrassing
    Comment by oldtree — November 23, 2006 @ 11:53 am

Excellent post! And I wholly agree.

  63. unbelievable Says:

Why does the family always have to fight on the holidays? **sniff**

Robert is just the nextdoor neighbor who invited himself over, and then got drunk and beligerent.

I have convinced quite a few to look into the Air Force and Navy. I told them to look up the number of soldiers and marines who have died in Iraq compared with the Air Force and Navy. This usually changes their minds.

It makes me sad to think they believe the military is their only option. Many of them would do well in college, they just do not currently believe it. Too many years of people telling them they can’t makes it difficult to believe when I come along and tell them they can.

  65. unbelievable Says:

    Comment by Juan C — November 23, 2006 @ 12:10 pm

    Deserves repeating.

Also - on the subject - the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of animals. Being at the top of the food chain does not give us the right to value ourselves (in the names of artificial deities) over all other life on this planet.

We need to stop adding more people to the planet - because when the resources cannot support them, they will starve to death. Read Thom Hartman’s “The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight”

  66. DonD Says:

I am thankful that TP chose to put the picture of two turkeys in the post. Unfortunately only one is stuffed with an edible dressing.

  67. unbelievable Says:

I told them to look up the number of soldiers and marines who have died in Iraq compared with the Air Force and Navy. This usually changes their minds.

Great point. I’ll have to share that with the kids here.

It makes me sad to think they believe the military is their only option. Many of them would do well in college, they just do not currently believe it. Too many years of people telling them they can’t makes it difficult to believe when I come along and tell them they can.
    Comment by Jules — November 23, 2006 @ 12:18 pm

It’s why I get angry with people who want to force women to have babies that they do not want. I live with the ramifications of that - human beings who cannot value themselves because no one taught them how. Merely the unfortunate circumstances of their birth.

Most of these kids are intelligent. In fact, I think it’s their ‘wise beyond their years’ perspective that makes them unable to relate to the average school kid. But of course they see it as a defect in themselves and the cycle perpetuates itself. Very sad.

This year they brought in time clocks. Yep.

    Comment by unbelievable — November 23, 2006 @ 12:36 pm

In Texas we cannot have unions either. We are supposed to receive our time clocks next year. This is freakin ridiculous. Is it any wonder fewer and fewer people are becoming educators?

I will be leaving Texas in a few years, hopefully two. I want to go someplace where teachers are actually viewed as an asset to the public!!

    I suggest Sweden or Japan.

About half of my posts are disappearing, so I bid you all a Happy Thanksgiving and will drop by another day.

  71. Briseadh na Faire Says:

by the way, in my first post, which never showed up, I did say,

I am thankful for all the friends I met and made here at ThinkProgress. You know who you are, and I feel blessed for having met you.

So this is typical red state agendas in action, eh?

This is freakin ridiculous. Is it any wonder fewer and fewer people are becoming educators?

Two of my colleagues are already leaving at the end of this year. This is the school’s first year and there are only about a dozen programs.

Typical inept DOE process - you have a shortage of teachers so you make it tougher to be one. Yeah, that works…

Let me know where you find a place like that, because I’m in the market myself.

Right now, I’m thinking Seattle or Portland, maybe?

Is your daughter still planning to go to college in Boston?

  73. Impeach the PedoCons Says:

Did you see that picture of a turkey carrying a turkey? Funny!

  74. Juan C Says:

Also - on the subject - the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of animals. Being at the top of the food chain does not give us the right to value ourselves (in the names of artificial deities) over all other life on this planet.

Im gonna be a little trolly here.
Being at the top of the food chain do you think we must not kill animals for food? Other animals are doing it. Why wouldnt we? Of course, I agree on the issue about exploitation and anhilation of species, but should we kill animals with our own hands in order to be more fair? What do you suggest? Other than become vegeterian.

We need to stop adding more people to the planet - because when the resources cannot support them, they will starve to death.
I agree. Perhaps thats what we deserve.

    Less people.

There are evolutionary reasons humans eat meat that I understand and accept as a part of life. It’s just the level we’ve taken it to that I find unacceptable (cruelty to food animals, killing an animal and then not eating or throwing away the meat, etc.)

I agree. Perhaps thats what we deserve.

I don’t believe in revenge. But justice, I do. And justice would be some mass natural sterilization of most people to stop the over-breeding process. Unfortunately, nature not being intelligent or conscious probably will do things in a way that fits more within the boundaries of revenge.

  77. robert Says:

so, Self reliance is a bad thing?

FYI, part of what I do and teach my children to do is to give to those that are not as lucky as you. That is a MORAL obligation of my belief system.

  78. unbelievable Says:

Alright, time to deal with relatives…

    Have a good one!

  79. Jules Says:

Unbe - we would like to move to Portland. It is beautiful, even with the rain, and there are like minded individuals there. Although I am seeing fewer of them, I bristle every time I see a W sticker!

T has decided she wants to remain instate for the immediate future. She has developed a fear of “losing people” and especially me. I am hoping she decides to transfer after a year. She is entirely to progressive for this state.

  80. Juan C Says:

UnB, you see…being from Argentina, (where you can slice the meat with a fork, its really good meat because there are no mountains, there are pampas so cows dont grow nerves) is really hard to avoid the joy of eating meat.

Now, the other extreme: India. They have a lot of cows, they cruise the streets, they stop traffic, they can go everywhere, etc. and India is one of the poorest countries in the world with severe malnutrition problems.

Yeah, cluster bombs and white phosphorous.

That is a MORAL obligation of my belief system.
Yeah, Bush and all christian hypocrites think is a MORAL obligation to drop bombs over civilians.

  82. RUCerious Says:

May I give thanks that the Simpering Chimp hasn’t blown the world to little bits?

This will make you mad, but I agree with this 100%

  84. rocknation Says:

Howard Dean: For his fifty-state strategy–and his fighting the DLC to implement it.

Paul Hackett: Though he lost his election to Jeam Schmidt in Ohio, he got 48% of the vote in a district that never ever gave more than 32% to a Democrat. Even in defeat, he showed that the fifty-state strategy could work and gave us our mandate to win.

Jon Stewart: Helped level the national media playing field by turning The Daily Show into a political force–and all he does is point out the obvious.

Steve Colbert: Took our angst over the Bush White House and shoved it right in Bush’s face.

Bill Clinton: Took our angst over the right wing media and shoved it right in Fox News’ face.

Bruce Springsteen: For saying, “I don’t even see that as politics at this point…it’s…common sense.”

  85. robert Says:

    It was a joke!

  88. Karim Says:

One thing I am thankful for ? ThinkProgress. Hope everyone had a good and safe Thankgsiving.

  89. Kiki Says:

I spent the day on a quail plantation where the rich people pay to hunt and my cousin was telling me about the current group…old, very rich, big on hunting, lots of drinking and they paid $40,000 for a week of hunting and a staff of 10 and I was like, “(GASP!) Is Dick Cheney here?” and my cousin’s husband said, “If he were, you hippies wouldn’t be here, that’s for sure.”

All and all had a lovely day.

  90. trueblue Says:

I’m thankful that I still see my buddy, Spudge_Boy!

You are a veteran- of TP and the United States.

    Thank you, Spudge!
You are a wonderful, honerable, person.

    :)

  91. smafdy Says:

    Robert, you pathetic tool:

Low unemployment? Who gives a rat’s ass? We’re paying for it by borrowing a trillion (do you have any concept of the magnitude of that number?) dollars that we borrowed from a communist country. Mom and dad are broke, but the kids still get their allowances, because we’ve got credit cards. How American.

I’ll bet you have a smirk on your oily neocon face. God, I’d be even more thankful if I could wipe it off for you.

You are truly an asswipe, Republican, ball-licking, skidmark. (this last description was borrowed from one of the more talented and creative writers at this site).

  92. JIMBO Says:

Still recovering from the savory turkey, stuffing, green beans, potato salad and pumpkin pie that’s still good, but here’s what I’m really thankful for…

Sites like this, Daily Kos, Huffington Report, etc for speaking the truth, giving us a forum and doing what wasneeded to change the state of politics and we did.

Olbermann, Stewart, Colbert and Air America for providing top notch broadcasting and not following the MSM b.s..

The Nation for telling the truth about the election unlike Time which prefers to downplay the Democrat’s rise and Speaker Pelosi’s ascending to power by bringing up the “centrist” crap or Pelosi’s alleged “failure” of selecting a majority leader. The Nation and Mother Jones still tell the truth and knows how important it is that Pelosi, is a young at heart grandma who, along with Howard Dean, kicked ass.

The Dixie Chicks for releasing the best country album of the year. Too bad the country music awards decided that Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts are more worthy. The Grammys will change that.

Johnny Cash for releasing the second best country album of the year.

Howard Dean for laughing in the face of James Carville, who’s only radio gig is on an XM

  93. TerrytheTurtle Says:

We’re thankful that TP covered the Haberas Corpus MCA bill? Er. sorry.

We’re thankful that TP covered the Lebanon war? Er sorry.

  94. Sharon Cox Says:

  95. robert Says:

Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

So, I guess the party of civility didn’t invite you to come along.

  96. JPark Says:

Robert, the party of civility? It ain’t happening anymore. You get no free passes for your disgusting beliefs.

  97. Happy Guy Says:

Who are you people kidding. You undermine the troops every chance you get. You put it first on your list when your just a bunch of terrorist sympathizers.

I am grateful we kept Bush in office on 2004 no matter how much you people wanted Kerry to destroy this great country.

    God Bless America
