NBC’s Norah O’Donnell reports that “the Pentagon is already developing an alternative to give the President an out if he doesn’t like the recommendations” of the Baker-Hamilton Commission. Watch the video at HuffPost.
Picking someone “attractive” to make the propaganda medicine go down is an old old trick. What a pile. What makes me enraged is that lives are being lost due to this crap.
the only non-insane “out” now is OUT… iraq is deteriorating faster than the news can keep up with it… i will be surprised if maliki lasts the week…
And, yes, I DO take it personally
The only thing notable about Norah O’Donnell is that she is a beauty. After you take a look, you must ignore everything else, because she is essentially a Bush&Co. employee. She is biased, she gives terrible inteviews, and she has an obnoxious laugh. Tweety Matthews likes her because he can’t turn down a pretty face – he drools more than usual when he talks to her.
What she said today may or may not be true, but we will all know soon.
Frankly I wish a person’s looks were not a factor – I prefer my pundits and journalists to simply be accurate and fair.

I agree that Michael Ware offers full reporting, lots of details, and he is believable – his passion shows in his face. BTW did you also see John Roberts of CNN – a guy I usually find annoying – he said that the reporting from Iraq is “sanitized” for the most part because it is too gruesome and raw. After 3 years, he went back for a month and was expecting it to be bad, but said it was much worse.
I guess this kind of crap makes sense in the Boy King’s World.

That would make your version of reality more bizarre and fantasy based than Bush’s. Congrats.
Are you not familiar with this “Pentagon” mentioned ? Did you think they advertise in newspapers or something for submissions of war plans rather than develop them themselves ?
Tell us what sort of alternate dimension you’re working with here.
#9 yes I did see the interview it was pretty chilling…..another solid reporter is Lara Logan of CBSnews…..she’s put it on the line for our benefit for a couple years now. She has the same passionate way about her as Michael Ware…there’s an impact in the reports they do and the ‘live’ reports are often anti-spin no holds barred how it really is.

Hmmm I don’t know, possibly some alternate dimension where a brain damaged hereditary drunk wasnt running the most powerful country in the world. Before the war I saw quite a few letters to the editor saying “there is no possible good outcome for an invasion of Iraq”. All I can say is give those guys a job, because they called it better than anyone else. I’m glad to say I was one of those people. I mean, if you think realisitically, in DETAIL, thinking about SPECIFICS, regarding possible outcomes of an invasion…. you cant come up with any good scenarios. A harmonious, peaceful pro-western democracy wasnt and isnt realistic, under ANY scenario. People who understand history and know the region know that. The best we could possible have hoped for would have been a Sunni strongman with the will and ability to brutally crush the religious nuts.. sound familiar???? If all we have was a Hussien by any other name, what was the point?
You give these guys Freedom Fries, and they are going to make Hamas Hummus. If the populace of ME was allowed a vote regarding to whom they sell thier oil, we’d be seeing 20$ a gallon prices here because Russia and China would be getting it all.
So yes, I think its not surprising at all that people are shocked that the people making command and control decisions at the Pentagon are still being allowed to drive thier own vehicle. Besides very likely being guilty of war crimes by obeying the command to initiate this war of agression, anyone at the Pentagon in a position of authority who wasnt objecting to this invasion purely for common sense reasons shouldn’t be allowed to play with thier planes and tanks anymore.
So yes, I think its not surprising at all that people are shocked that the people making command and control decisions at the Pentagon are still being allowed to drive thier own vehicle.
Yeah as I pointed out they are shocked because they aren’t grounded in reality. Namely that
the Pentagon develops plans regardless.
Lie and say that if the story broken was instead that the Pentagon had developed no plans for dealing with the civil war that this would be met with anything other than critcism.
Go on. Why just lie to yourself when you can lie to others.
Besides very likely being guilty of war crimes …
And you’re out. If you want to hang people for war crimes it’s a long process. We only just got around to dealing with one side of Bosnia this year. Start calling for the Clinton administration’s war crimes trial over that and you’ll be taken seriously when it comes Bush’s time. You couldn’t be any less credible on the topic of the US being subject to international law if you still only want it applied to those you oppose.
Uhm I DONT actually see them making any plans for a civil war. I don’t see ANYONE at the pentagon even admitting there is a civil war or honestly giving any sort of benchmark about when exactly a civil war would be occuring. Honestly, anything but “withdraw” isnt a plan in the sense of being anything that could vaugely work. They might as well discuss thier plans to go back in time. I wouldnt be suprised if there wasnt a plan because there is nothing realistic that will work. So thanks for putting words in my mouth, but no, if the Pentagon actually had the balls to say “there are no realistic options other than leaving” I’d have alot more respect for them than watch trying to come up with some imaginary meth dream plans that are only going to cost us more blood and treasure and delay the inevitable.
And re: Clinton. Not sure why your assuming i’m defending clinton. I dont like polticians period, im only political because the guy running the show now is literally trying to shred the consitution and start armageddon because of some smelly guys in caves that have killed less americans in the past 6 years than slipping in the bathtub has. I pretty much think all politicians are scum, actually. Bush is just some of the bottom of the barrel.
Lets run with your assumption that clinton is a war criminal too, fine. How may deaths is he responsible for? Dont think its the millions that will be dead before the results of our assanine iraq invervention play out. I’d put the guy in the doc that killed way more people first, but thats just me.
Plus, I dont know enough about the Bosnian war to argue with you. But I am about to graduate law school and I CAN tell you that “b-b-b-u-t he did it TOO teacher” won’t exhonerate you from anything.
If cheney (or bush, if you think hes really the one in charge) was experiencing methamphetmine psychosis and told the military to launch nukes at russia and china unprovoked, would you want to them to salute and say “yes sir, im following orders sir”?
I guess ya would, huh? or is only slow forms of superpower suicide like iraq ok in your book?
Uhm I DONT actually see them making any plans for a civil war.
And that’s a good thing right ? From now on I’m just going tell you that you’ve got the point rather than waiting for it to happen by chance.
I don’t see ANYONE at the pentagon even admitting there is a civil war or honestly giving any sort of benchmark about when exactly a civil war would be occuring. Honestly, anything but “withdraw†isnt a plan in the sense of being anything that could vaugely work.
No doubt an opinion informed by just as much research as all your previous statements. BTW we use the term “strategic redeployment” instead of “withdrawal” here on Thinkprogress. It tests better.
And re: Clinton. Not sure why your assuming i’m defending clinton. I dont like polticians period…
I didn’t refer to you defending Clinton. I referred to the absurdity of references to Bush’s administration as war criminals when the second they leave office no such standard will ever again be deemed applicable to US executives just as it wasn’t the day before he took office.

Right. Because in terms of international law this would mean just so much. Nice of you to also misspell a legal term there before going on to tell us this…
Plus, I dont know enough about the Bosnian war to argue with you. But I am about to graduate law school and I CAN tell you that “b-b-b-u-t he did it TOO teacher†won’t exhonerate you from anything.
No you’re not a graduate law student. Complete absence of logic and attention span and the failure to confirm you have an understanding of the principle of universal application of international law confirms this.
If cheney (or bush, if you think hes really the one in charge) was experiencing methamphetmine psychosis and told the military to launch nukes at russia and china unprovoked, would you want to them to salute and say “yes sir, im following orders sir
This doesn’t appear to relate to anything discussed or be based on any understanding of the executive powers and chain of command applicable to such a circumstance.
I guess ya would, huh? or is only slow forms of superpower suicide like iraq ok in your book?

Well I’ve gotta say I am warming up to the idea of suicide for some.
The Chimp&Cheney are out of lipstick for this pig.The sooner they face the mirror and confess and stop trying to pass the buck and blame everyone BUTT their dumb greedy asses, things will never improve.

November 26th, 2006 at 6:21 pmShe is a government shill “darling.” Period.
She is not credible.
November 26th, 2006 at 6:23 pmCredible is Michael Ware of CNN, some very good reporting under tough conditions…..he’s solid and his work is worth watching.
November 26th, 2006 at 6:30 pmIt’s so tiringly elementary my dear watson.

s,
One of the blogs, maybe Atrios, ran a contest for a nickname for our Mizz Norah, and the winner was Noron O’Donnell. :)
November 26th, 2006 at 6:34 pmBush has no intention of making any substantial changes in Iraq. The Baker commission is just for show.

Amy Goodman may be the only real television journalist in this country.
November 26th, 2006 at 9:12 pmAny chance the “give the President an out ” would involve C4 wrapped like a candygram for Mongo?
