Trent Lott and Karl Rove are typical Republicans. Regretably, their confrontation will preempt important news that might otherwise be reported. This was the case with Jeff Gannon (post #38). It was strange that Monica Lewinski (an intern) could smoke a cigar in the Whitehouse and (with the help of a Republican majority) bring about the impeachment of a president, but Jeff (the male prostitute) could spend several overnights in the Whitehouse and not be noticed. Even when exposed, Jeff did not get the intense media attention that Monica got. Maybe the MSM was overly embarassed to find that Jeff was posing as one of them. No matter. I give credit to the MSM. They were smart to leave us guessing if Jeff was smoking cigars too.

Irrespective of Trent Lott’s 33 years of experience in Congress, a few of which were spent learning the rules at the knee of none other that Strom Thurmond who Lott effusively praised and subsequently lost his job to Bill Frist, does anyone besides me appreciate the delicious irony of Lott’s political resurrection in the form of his new role as the Senate’s Minority Whip?

I’ll bet he’s got one of those whips broken-in and ready in his office, just in case those uppity minorities get out of hand again, just like Sen. George “Macawitz” Allen has his noose all set for action, too, at least until his lame-duck term expires.

You just can’t make this stuff up.

Dis discussion is why American political dis course has de generated. Or is it disgenerated? Lott has had a resurrection, maybe a phyrric one, like Nixon, or Lot escaping the fate of his wife. Rove will be a roving ambassador somewhere, or continue to make millions consulting somewhere, and maybe even win an upset somewhere to redeem himself.

What we are seeing is the dissolution of the Republican Party at this phase or cycle of their dominance, i.e. end of it. Their best friend in ascending to this dominance has been the Democrats. Now they surely appear to be returning the favor.

I hope the Dems focus more on the real problems of this country that the GOPers ignored. I hope they don’t dump a pile of horseshoes full of luck to the horse—- brigade and let them survive longer. Sure there is a lot to investigate, but hyper-investigation saved Clinton and made him a martyr. I’d hate to be the committee chairman who overreached and st-Rove-d to place hisself among an overvaunted sleazeball and between he and theirself the full force of the law.
