I think we all need to stop refering to it "Global Warming," and start using the broader name of "Climate Change." Global Warming is just part of human induced Climate Change. If we use "Climate Change," it won't be as easy for Fox News and similar skeptics to say Global Warming isn't happening because it's 20 below zero in the Midwest, or an ice storm just hit the east coast. Research studies and documents refer to the broader problem as Climate Change, I think it's time for the media and public to do the same.

I am a meteorologist for the national weather service and have been so for a long time. You people have got to get your heads out of Al Gore’s butt and start thinking for yourselves. (I’m speaking only to those who are buying into the Al Gore propaganda) Global Warming is NOT real. Not real in the sense that driving an SUV is going to cause another hurricane Katrina to hit Denver. Global warming is real in the sense that this is something that has been happening for a long time. The temperature of the earth has been increasing more or less continuously since the time of the cave man.

Approximately 18,000 years ago the earth began a gradual process of warming up after more than 100,000 years of Ice Ages. Much of North America, Europe, and Asia lay buried beneath great sheets of glacial ice.

By about 15,000 years ago the earth had warmed sufficiently to halt the advance of glaciers, and sea levels worldwide began to rise.

By 8,000 years ago the land bridge across the Bearing Strait was drowned, cutting off the migration of men and animals to North America.

Since the end of the Ice Age, Earth’s temperature has risen approximately 16 degrees F and sea levels have risen a total of 300 feet! Forests have returned where once there was only ice.

From a geological perspective, global warming is the normal state of our accustomed natural world. Technically, we are in an “interglacial phase,” or between ice ages. The question is not really if an ice age will return, but when.

Don’t panic when you hear global alarmists warning the earth may have warmed almost 1 degree in the last 200 years. Although this still hasn’t yet been proven, it is in fact exactly what should be happening if everything is normal.

If Global Warming stops, then you can start worrying! It means our warm interglacial phase is over and we may be heading into another Ice Age!

Global Warming occurs in cycles caused mainly by changes in the sun’s energy output and the sun’s relative position to the earth. So stop believing the hype and realize that Al Gore is doing this simply because he is bitter about losing the election, which by the way HE DID LOSE. This is purely a political spin, and he is trying to place the entire myth of his version of global warming in this administration. There is NO WAY on earth that the United States is single handedly responsible for global warming. I have been to other countries around the world and trust me, they emit A LOT more toxins into the atmosphere than we do. So don’t listen to that idiot. He invented the internet remember? Now he is inventing Global Warming. Go drive your car as much as you’d like. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the principal gas that trees and other plants need to survive, just like oxygen (O2) is the principle gas that humans and other animals require. Trees absorb CO2 and release O2– animals inhale O2 and exhale CO2. See how nice this all works!

Carbon dioxide is invisible. The puffs of clouds you see from coal-fired power plants are just that– clouds. Powerplants use steam to drive the turbines which generate electricity. Steam must be cooled and condensed to water to reuse it to make more steam.

The fat, curvy towers that look like they are belching white smoke are really only emitting pure water vapor. They are in effect making clouds.

The actual exhaust emissions come from the smokestack, which is the tall skinny tower. Because modern technology makes it possible to remove much of the fly ash and sulfur before releasing smokestack gases to the air, smokestack emissons today are often almost invisible.

The IPCC is downgrading global warming by 25% overall, and sea level changes by 50% for their 2007 report.

This is not the first time the IPCC has had to downgrade their predictions.

This is, of course, highly embarassing to them and the entire global warming scientific community. Of course they need to minimize their embarassment (and protect their funding), so we are probably looking at data that suggest a 50% overall reduction, and a 75% reduction in sea level change, but they will only admit to smaller numbers.

Add that to the previous reductions that the IPCC has had to make over the years, and we are probably at about overall warming effects of only 25% of their original dire predictions. In other words, climat alarmists overstated their case by 400%. But certainly, as time goes by, that number will rise even more.

The IPCC, by simply writing a new report on recycled paper, have done over 400% better at reducing global warming than the Kyoto treaty's measly 6%. Keep spending those billions (or trillions) Kyoto signers...! Nothing like burning money for no good reason.

Of course the only people with a good track record in predictions in all of this are the people like me, that have said for many years that the consensus of global warming scientists will BE FORCED to continually lower their predictions.

And there will be more lowering after this one, in future IPCC reports.

I have never been wrong on this.

Also, the readership here don't read Drudge Report, otherwise they would know that the article above was not Druge. Like 99% of the links he ever publishes, they are to other news services and writers, and are not written by him.

Have fun, chicken littles...

What Global Warming? That's all liberal scare tactics, right?
By the way, at this very moment there is a typhoon rolling over Manila/Philippines with windspeeds of up to 173 mph.

There are more than 3 Million Americans incarcerated for smoking pot and people who proclaim that Global Warming is not happening are running around freely. Something is just too wrong in this picture.

I'll take your critique of Drudge seriously when you make the identical point against those who appealed to 2004 and 2005 as evidence that global warming was driving more and stronger hurricanes. The lack of solid scientific support for the GW/hurricanes connection has been argued in many peer-reviewed articles. See some cited in "A Call to Truth, Prudence, and Protection for the Poor: An Evangelical Response to Global Warming," at www.interfaithstewardship.org.

This is proof that Gore was wrong. Do you really think it was a coincidence that he created that stupid movie after the biggest hurricane season in decades? How many tickets would he have sold if he had released the movie after this years hurricane season? Leave it to Gore to capitalize on people's emotions after a tragedy like Katrina. And to think that this guy almost became president! Leave it to the guy who claimed he invented the internet and downplayed the danger that Osama Bin Laden imposed in a court hearing with Oliver North.

Very entertaining thread. Biggest laughs of all come from the self-styled naysayers who glibly declare a majority of scientists complicit in deception, then condescendingly explain to the rest of us that there have always been climate fluctuations.

Holy shitstorm, Batman, climate researchers never thought of that (or they have, but admitting it would shut off access to all those billions of dollars that the federal govt lavishes on science)!

Oh, thank you, thank you armchair climate quarterbacks! But, where were you when the scientists need you?

<strong><em>"Men, proclaiming themselves wise, became fools."</em><em></em></strong>

If you actually read the article, Drudge says absolutely nothing about Gore or global warming. It was not an "attack on Gore's global warming", but a well-written article about how the latest seasonal hurricane predictions failed miserably, which is absolutely correct.

This Web site is "Think Progress". You folks should work a little harder with the "think" part.

For those who doubt the role of man's recent activities in causing/contributing to global warming, note that we have a record of atmospheric CO2 that now goes back almost a million years in the ice cores of Greenland and Antarctica. They show: (1) CO2 in the atmosphere falls during the known times of glaciation, and (2) CO2 levels are now higher by some tens of percent than at any time in these last million years. These are unarguable facts. Since it is certain that the recent large increase in CO2 has occurred mainly since the start of the industrial revolution, during which time large scale burning of coal and major industrial activity began, it suggests, but does not prove of course, that this UNDENIABLY man-caused increase in CO2 has led to global warming in recent times. This is true not respective of other factors in the natural world that might be at work. It is also a fact that our nearest neighbor Venus has a thick atmosphere that traps heat, the surface of which is sufficiently hot to melt lead. Now it is flippant and foolish to just dismiss all the talk of global warming as being promoted by liberal scientists on the take from Kerry's wife. Why? Well, if the sea level rose today by 20 feet, humankind would lose much of the best agricultural land, plus many of the largest cities, on the planet. Finally, we CAN DO something about this; we can pursue alternative energy sources aggressively, and we can start reducing our production of CO2 right now. As was mentioned, methane is another naturally-occurring greenhouse gas, rapidly increasing due to the thawing of the northern regions of Asia and North America. As the permafrost melts, decay can commence in some hundreds of thousands of cubic kilometers of organic material. Such an event would disrupt or end civilization as we know it. Better is not to be so flippant about an event of unknown probability, but not zero, which we have some means to ameliorate.

I will state it as simply as possible for those who deny that we are entering crisis as far as global warming is concerned. I have about four acres of pristine, unaltered property in Florida that I originally purchased about forty years ago. Ten years ago, that acreage was declared wetlands as the surface became permanently moist. Today, there is about a half inch of standing salt-water on the property. I'm not deeply concerned as I use the area to screen my family from the noise and bustle of neighbors and my home is 14 feet above sea level. They actually use fireworks down here. Wildlife also abounds - the occasional deer or panther sends our cat up the wall. She also enjoys the occasional gecko is unwise enough to enter her territory. Alligators are another matter. She has not left the house since one came close to making a meal of her.

Vicks,

The globe is warming, there is empirical data to support this statement. The question is what is the causation?

There is evidence that supports the fact that there are cycles in the global temperature, which expains the Ice Ages and the warm periods that were experienced when the dinosaurs were roaming and at the end of the Egyptian Empire.

There is also evidence that supports the theory that global warming is caused by human interaction through the emission of greenhouse gases.

As I pointed out in posting 58, the truth lies somewhere in the middle (or as BC put it in posting 65, at 4.5).

The sad reality is simple, we cannot and will not control nature. Just as there was an Ice Age 20,000 years ago, we will have one again. Simiarly, there were periods of global warmeth. Now, since homo sapians have been inhabiting the earth we have survived both types of periods. For those who believe in darminism and evolution and whatnot, that would leave us to believe that we might be facing a period of warming so the strong will survive. Likewise, a time will come (hopefully before we kill ourselves off with war) when we face another Ice Age. Guess what, the strong will survive. It is the natural cycle of things. We, as humans, will not be around for another billion years. We will not even be around for another million years or probably 100,000 years. We will evolve to fit the environment.

We are not so significant that we will accidentally kill off the entire planet. Do not be so conceited. Mankind will evolve and grow through adaption. We will survive this cycle just as we have in the past.

#68,
<em>Guess what? The scientific facts are not up for a popularity vote. Theories are proven to be true or false, regardless of their popularity or unpopularity. </em>

Exactally, show me one piece of evidence that says that ONLY man contrubuted to global warming. You can not.

Did I say that man does not contribute to it greatly? No. I know man is the primary contributor. I have simply stated that man is not the ONLY contributor. Nature does contribute as well.

That is why the earth goes through stages of cooling and warming. No one can discount that fact.

Bill C's alter ego,

You got to be something incredible to meet in person. To take two postings (Since Don posted twice) and pull it together to warp a view into something so incredible wrong is just simply incredible. I would love to sit down for a drink with you because I am sure that you are full of incredibly fancy stories. If you are not willing to seek out the truth and want it all placed in your lap, so be it. I am sure that there are many out there that will think of some great stories to tell you so, can share at the amusement of others.

Just for the record, there are scientists out there that claim Bigfoot is real, yet will never be able to produce it.

Don, you rock!

I think it is so funny that a website could be labeled "Conservative" and "Rightwing" when it is simply posting links to newspaper such as Reuters, Breibart, The Washington Post... Everyone wants to shoot the messenger not the message. Additionally, the messages are rarely that of Matt Drudge himself. I guess everyone is still caught up in the fact that he broke the Lewinsky scandal, and created the "vast right-wing conspiracy".

I read a survey this past summer that was pulled from a very reputable source (not Drudge) that stated, on a spectrum, the stance of different news organizations. The findings stated that Drudge is the most centrist in its reportings and still had a left leaning bias. So if the "conservative mouthpiece" has a left-leaning bias, where in the world is the unbiased reporting? I suppose we can find all of the "True Answers" in the New York Times or Time magazine. Simply put, you must go out and actually seek the truth yourself, we have access to millions of times the amount of information that was available to us 50 years. Yet, we somehow seem to think that the truth lies within one source, within one political agenda, and within one view point.

I do not think that Al Gore is lacking credibility based off of his political affiliation, I feel that it was lacking once he claimed to invent the internet. It is like George Bush saying he invented peace or Bin Laden saying he invented tolerance for other beliefs.

Do the research for Global Warming, put down the spoons that others are feeding you. If you want to have a serious discussion, do not listen to the political hacks... They have proven over and over again that they are fill of something and it is said to be a contributing factor of Global Warming.

Anti Drudge Morons,

I’ll try to use little words so you can understand this.
1)	Drudge web site had a headline “BLEW IT: HURRICANE PREDICTIONS OFF TRACK; QUIETEST SEASON IN DECADE...”. This headline links to a NEIL JOHNSON story in The Tampa Tribune. THAT article states the obvious; there were not many hurricanes this year.

2)	Drudge also has a “flashback” (I hope it’s not too big of word for you). The flashback links to a story by Tom Carter in the THE WASHINGTON TIMES May 29, 2006. To quote this story “meteorologists are unanimous that the 2006 tropical storm season, which runs from June 1 through November, is likely to be a doozy”,

Drudge is getting you all in an uproar because of ONE HEADLINE! Does the move Dumb and Dumber come to mind? Why are you ripping Drudge? His headline is correct. The commonly made predictions for the 2006 huricanes season were WRONG.

Does he say global warming is not caused by man? No but you are sure it is even with the natural cycles and normal variations in weather we see over history.

Does he say Al Gore said there would be more hurricanes in 2006? No, but you'd have to be complete idiots to think Al didn't think there would be more.

Does he say that over the next 10 years we won’t have more severe weather because of higher global temperatures? No.

You’re debating the global warming issue with someone that didn’t come to the debate. However, that’s not important to people that have already decided that they know the right answer to everything.

All he has done is point out that the predictions made this spring about the upcoming huricane season were wrong. You on the left would have a whole lot more credibility if you took the time to read and understand what you are trying to make fun of. Compare the headlines of Drudge to Buzz Flash. Which one grossly exagerates the articles the most? Which one appeals literally to a middle school mentality with the tone and depth of the headlines? Get off your high horses morons. Drudge isn’t 1/10th as right wing as you think. You’d know this if you actually had friends and work associates outside of your narrow little political spectrum that you’ve made your comfortable little worlds out of.

No. (You're all sure it is even if natural cycles and variations can also explain it.)

Does he say Al Gore said there would be more hurricanes in 2006? No. *Even if he obviously implies it.)

Does he say that over the next 10 years we won’t have more severe weather because of higher global temperatures? No. (But you are all sure that we will somewhere and sometime.)

You’re debating the global warming issue with someone that didn’t come to the debate. However, that’s not important to people that have already decided that they know the right answer to everything.
