#32 - Bill C`s alter ego,
Our hunting culture would make an invasion of the US a disaster for an invader. Currently, we are killing each other, an invasion force would simply offer a more alluring target. This is not an endorsement of the NRA! I know about a hundred crossbow owners who would enjoy nothing more then picking off a few enemy from a tree blind with that silent killer.

Turkey will not invade the kurdish regions, but they might "secure their border" on Iraqi soil. They are still begging to be taken into the EU and an all out aggression against the Kurds would ruin even the slight chance they have.

Good point. Though stranger things have happened. Though with a little tweaking, my scenario is possible. Would likely be a Saudi/US backing of a Baathist resurgence ... if not, then just Sunni in general. Iran will back Sadr. Then it is either a somewhat shaky split of Iraq, or all out Civil War with two major sides in the conflict. And is there any reason to think Turkey would not invade the Kurdish region of Iraq?

Gah, this whole thing is a mess.

his administration would not allow anything like that to happen. If Saddam comes back to power it will be through a surge of Baathist insurgents backed by Iranian arms who take over Iraq and ‘liberate’ Saddam from his prison. However, Saddam would never be the strong man ever again. Either he would be used as a figure head or whoever has since gone up the Baath ladder of power will take the reigns and lead the country openly.

The baathist (Sunni) insurgents are certainly not going to be supported by Iranians (Shia). Sadr will be the new "strongman." Just hard to know who's going to really install him. Iran? Or the U.S.?

Not only will the US troops be asked to leave, they will be chased out of there. We better start planning an orderly evacuation now, or there will be a replay of Hanoi with people scrambling up to the helecopters on the roof.

All that we see in the Middle East is what Pres Bush has inadvertently done in response to the horrific attacks of 9/11.

Is the burgeoning Shiite fundamentalist state in Iraq an appropriate response to the horrific attacks of 9/11 wherein nearly 3000 people died ghastly deaths (e.g. throats slit) and tens of billions of dollars in damage were incurred?

Is an approaching internecine war in the Middle East an appropriate response to the horrific attacks of 9/11 wherein nearly 3000 people died ghastly deaths (e.g. throats slit) and tens of billions of dollars in damage were incurred?

9/11 = 3000 ghastly murders + tens of billions of dollars in damage

Iraq = Tens of thousands of lives lost and ruined + $400 billion

WTF?
