This entire story is red herring, in any event. Pelosi exerts far more influence as a legislator than as a small employer in the Napa Valley. If she supports pro-labor legislation in her capacity as Speaker, then she may rightly be considered a friend of labor. If she promotes laws that sell workers down the river, then it doesn’t matter how well she treats the people at her winery or if they belong to a union.

I have some hope that Pelosi will support laws favorable to workers; I have no hope whatsoever that the Repubs will do so.

I read all that. I just can’t hold back my amusement watching you lefties falling all over each other in your collective admiration over someone who is paying their workers $1.50 an hour more than union workers but at the same time she is probably saving thousands of dollars per person on union related expenses. The unions are one of the lefts biggest constituants. On the one hand you agonize over WalMarts rejection of unions, even suggesting boycotts. But when it comes to your beloved speaker to be, it’s quite alright. Hypocrites!

Everybody’s right, you DO have some kind of reading comprehension problem. Of course, the issue is not only that she cannot help her workers unionize, but that the workers themselves have to elect for themselves via a state run ballot whether they want to unionize or not.

It is their choice whether to unionize and they have choosen not to unionize.

That simple fact by itself attests to how well paid and well treated these workers are (or consider themselves), when they decline the open opportunity to unionize. That sounds like happy workers to me!

The purpose of a union is to have an organization that will stand up for the worker and ensure a fair living wage and workers’ rights, especially in the face of an employer who will not guarantee any of the aforementioned needs.

When you have an employer who already provides such needs and rights, a union is NOT NECESSARY.

Note to GoOPers and employers….want to get rid of unions? Do what Nancy Pelosi does. Unions won’t exist where there is no need for them to.

The answer is no, correct? That she pays them more or treats “her workers better” is irrelevant. And point #2 is completely irrelevant.

Those points are irrelevant in her defense because she pressures other employers in other industries to use union workers.

And what about all the non-union workers in Pelosi’s hotel and restaurants? Have those facts been “debunked” as well?

The large amount of time spent in the ABC “news” story on that it’s illegal for Pelosi to solicit union workers is misleading. If you read the act, you’ll learn that this just extends the non-farm rules to farm labor and the purpose of the rule is to prevent the employer from putting together thier own union or to sway opinion on which union representative to use. If she wanted to unionize, there are plenty of ways for her to approach it. Somehow the ABC report missed this and tries to make it seem like her hands are tied. Bullshit. (Oh, what a surprise.)

She is just using Wal-Mart tactics to keep the unions out. Whatever she says about paying a buck and quarter more per hour, I’m sure she really doesn’t want the unions. Law or no law about interference, the union people aren’t trying to get in there. For some reason that only Pelosi (and the other growers in the area) and the unions know, the unions are happy the way things are. The question is why is it stopping the unions here and almost never anywhere else?!?
