“Using money, weapons or its oil power, Saudi Arabia will intervene to prevent Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias from massacring Iraqi Sunni Muslims once the United States begins pulling out of Iraq, a security adviser to the Saudi government said on Wednesday.”
Yeah, thats what we need … a war between Saudi Arabia and Iran with Iraq as the battleground. Of course we will supply Saudi Arabia with all the weapons they need, forget the fact that they are the originators of the Islamic Fundamentalism which is fueling Terrorism in the region which we are supposedly fighting against.
November 29th, 2006 at 1:02 pmI’m thinking this is what “Dick” Cheney was talking to the Prince about.
November 29th, 2006 at 1:10 pmI guess now we know what deadeye Dick’s trip to grovel before the oil King was all about…..
November 29th, 2006 at 1:12 pmKingy: “You and your ventriloquists dummy can get away with bulls##ting your citizens, but don’t pull that crap here…… are you leaving Iraq, never mind that, let’s just say you are leaving, how soon can you get the hell out of the way?”
Deadeye: “All I need is a couple of weeks to get my new bunker stocked up, it’s in Florida you know, I’ll just tell everyone I’m on
another hunting trip, they’ll all stay away from me..heh heh. And, oh, did I tell ya, Your Most Eminent Oiliness? The new bunker’s got a tunnel that opens on the gulf, where I’ll get picked up by my drug lord buddies and packed off to Paraguay when the indictments come down.”
Zooey, you beat me to it — was this the reason Cheney was “summoned” by the Saudis?
November 29th, 2006 at 1:29 pmAre they bluffing? Are they threatening? Could a regional war be on the horizon?
It’s about time those bastards stepped up to the plate and did something about their own back yard.
November 29th, 2006 at 1:31 pm#5 Wow….Has hell frozen over? BlueDog49 and I agree!
November 29th, 2006 at 1:35 pmI am not really sure how effective the Saudi military really is, didn’t we enter Saudi Arabia, after Saddam invaded Kuwait, precisely because the Saudi Military was considered to ill equiped to handle a possible Iraqi invasion?
Besides, Iran’s military is far larger and better equiped then the Saudi mililtary. Any war between the two would most likely tear apart whatever is left of the middle east at this point. If there is conflict between the two countries better get your bike out, because gas prices are going to shoot through the roof.

#5=Ignorant
Might as well say “It’s about time those bastards step into
November 29th, 2006 at 1:38 pmthe bush*t and take it further to WW III”
Human stupidity is really infinite.
Zooey wins today’s prize. Which is a free trip to Fresno.

I like raisins.
November 29th, 2006 at 1:52 pmThis will not be regional only if starts….you have the Shiate Iran and divided Iraq on one hand..and the Sunnis on the other…that will bring all oil and gas producing countries in the area…also will bring Turkey,Paksitan,Egypt,Afghanstan..and many others. All of them are armed to their teeth and have no problem finding fighters in this religious war…We will be caught in this. Like Mubarak of Egypt said before war against Iraq.”Toppling Saddam is achievable..but what follows is the hardest part”
November 29th, 2006 at 1:58 pmExley, how could we NOT agree on this. For years, it has bothered me that the Arab community complains about the treatment of Palestinians, but offers them no substantial help — no land, maybe a little money for the families of suicide bombers. I might be wrong about this. If anyone knows of any substantial aid the middle eastern community has offered Palestinians, I’d like to know about it.
November 29th, 2006 at 2:02 pmGuess who will be supplying SA with weaponry to fight with Iran?
November 29th, 2006 at 2:03 pmWon’t be Russia…
I don’t know if there will be a war. Iran and SA may just decide to divide Iraq, and her oil between themselves. Here is why;
Islams most revered sites are in Saudi Arabia (Mekka and Madina). Iranians aren’t about to piss off the entire muslim world by attacking Islam’s Holy Land.
The Saudies make a great deal of money from Iranians during the annual muslim pilgrimage of Hadj. Iranian Airline flies twice a day to Riyadh during the pilgrimage.
The Saudies are Wahabbi, a sect opposed to Sunni and Shiite.
SA and Iran both believe Israel was illegally constituted on Palestinian soil. When US cut funding to Palestinians for electing Hamas it was the SA and Iran who stepped up and guaranteed Palestinians will get their money. They have both been supporters the PLO and Hamas.
November 29th, 2006 at 2:06 pm#12. Very good point. Saber rattling has been part of this regions political platform for centuries. It’s wise for Saudi Arabia to take a stand now that Iran has shown they are going to play a role in Iraq.
Bush has got to get some type of diplomatic discussions going with Syria and Iran before he’s left out of the decision making process.
November 29th, 2006 at 2:07 pm#13…Again, we agree, BlueDog49. The Arab nations have done next to nothing for the Palestinians..or indeed for the Middle East region as a whole. They have very conveniently sought to blame everything on Israel and the U.S. (who do admittedly bear some responsibility for the turmoil in that region), while doing nothing to help make the situation better.
November 29th, 2006 at 2:13 pmStepping Into Iraq
Saudi Arabia Will Protect Sunnis if the U.S. Leaves
By Nawaf Obaid
Wednesday, November 29, 2006; Page A23
In February 2003, a month before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, the Saudi foreign minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal, warned President Bush that he would be “solving one problem and creating five more” if he removed Saddam Hussein by force. Had Bush heeded his advice, Iraq would not now be on the brink of full-blown civil war and disintegration.
November 29th, 2006 at 2:14 pmThis is the result of failed foreign policy, under a microscope.
November 29th, 2006 at 2:19 pmArrogance, grudges, Christofascism all contributed to today’s mess.
How can a President really believe we can arrive at a solution without talking to Iraq’s neighbors?
We talk tough to Iran, coddle the Saudis, ignore the Palestininans and pretend Syria doesn’t exist.
Good plan, Chimperor.
The Fecal Factor at it’s best. But when it hits the fan, where will our troops be? In the middle? Massacured?
And I thought the way we left ‘Nam was disgraceful!
The Arab world used the Palestinians as the poster boys for suffering. The US and Europe has given billions more to them than the rest of the Arab nations.
It’s always been convient since it was Isreal being cast as the evil doers. Now that there is serious concern of Iran moving into Iraq that has other Arab nations very nervous.
There is no unified Muslim religion and we may be seeing the beginings of a much larger conflict within this region. Wasn’t Bush I (and Sec Def Cheney) that said removing Saddam could destabilize the region?
November 29th, 2006 at 2:23 pm#

Same old same old. It was always about the oil, and will continue to be all about the oil. When we pull out of Iraq, we’ll wind up in Saudi Arabia, protecting those oil fields, refineries and ports, and fighting Iran/Iraq for control of their oil as well. Regional war? Think China and Russia taking sides here. Europe? Latin America?
November 29th, 2006 at 2:28 pmThis would have the added bonuses of crashing Exxon’s stock and cutting prices at the pump!
Talk about a win-win situation!
November 29th, 2006 at 2:33 pmNow we know why Darth Cheney was summonned to Saudi Arabia last week… The Veep was negotiating an “out” for Wonder Boy.
November 29th, 2006 at 2:37 pmAnother great idea of the USA GOP. They can’t win the war, so they instigate other country to make a bigger mess.
Some day in the future, some genius will ask (again) “Why hate they so much the USA?” or “It’s a regional behavior, to fight between them”.
November 29th, 2006 at 2:49 pmarmageddon definetly…..say Feb 2, 2007 groundhog day. US dollar is in a meltdown…currency markets have no faith in US financial conditions and worst of all its polcies. Iraq a muddy place and now SA admits it wants to get into the fray. Holy S**t, Batman!! Yeah, $200 a barrel, Robin.
November 29th, 2006 at 2:53 pmIs this their big plan. Force both countries into a religous war where they will be forced to dump cheap oil on the market? Gasoline will be back down to 1.00 a gallon.
Cruel, but effective. Keep your enemies busy and your friends busier.
November 29th, 2006 at 3:38 pmBen,
I doubt a regional conflict between Iran, and Saudi Arabia would make gas cheaper, since both countries depend on oil profits, you would see a increased attacks on shipping an infastructure. I contend the most likely result would be gas prices going through the roof.
I also like that you seem to feel such an action is just fine. I realize you support Bush, but damn dude do you really want millions killed, and billions in damage, just to satisfy your need to drive?
you might want to go seek help, you are hedging sociopathic.
November 29th, 2006 at 3:44 pmAn actual all out war is very unlikely but if one does break out Gas will not be $1.00 for us over here.
We’ve seen enough bloodshed and they are closer than we are.
Ben, you must be reading from the PNAC book of war.
November 29th, 2006 at 4:13 pmCoincidental with Cheney’s visit! Convince the Americans that they need to stay in Iraq to avoid WWIII starting in the region!! So transparent!
November 29th, 2006 at 4:18 pmSo when we cut and run, the Sunni vs Shite war expands across the region. Can’t let those Persians have the Arab oil. It’s becoming just like the days before the bible, when all those little nations/tribes were killing each other, only that time it was for the food and water resources.
November 29th, 2006 at 4:56 pm#3 Raven – good script… it’s probably true.
November 29th, 2006 at 4:58 pmHere’s another scenerio – the Iraqi Sunnis join with the Saudi Sunnis which cause instability in Saudia Arabia which in turn de-thrones the Prince. Just a thought, but then again, who would have thought that frat boy Bush would be re-elected as president.
